‘General Hospital’ Head Writers Tease 2026 Storylines to Watch For
General Hospital’s Daytime Emmy Award-winning head writers, Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte have major plans for the residents of Port Charles as 2026 begins. With so many intersecting characters and storylines, the scribes shared their overall vision for the year and presented some highlights to be on the lookout for as we turn the page on 2025.
In a new interview with TV Insider, Van Etten and Korte expressed, that they have big moves ahead and shifts, that they call, a ‘Perfect Storm’ – with multiple stories and relationships poised to collide.”
Here’s some of what they revealed below in key storylines and moments to watch for. First, the mystery of “Who Shot Drew?” is coming to an end! Chris and Elizabeth revealed, “Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) shooter is revealed as Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) trial climaxes. The verdict and its fallout will reverberate for years to come.”

Photo: ABC
DREW’S SHOOTING
On that note, Chris and Elizabeth mention the burgeoning relationship of Jacinda (Paige Herschell) and Michael (Rory Gibson) noting, “What began as a mutually advantageous financial arrangement is evolving into something sexy and sincere. But when Jacinda must testify at Willow’s trial, the thing that brought her and Michael together — a trumped-up alibi — may be their undoing.”
They also made mention that Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) have something to do with how the revelation of the true shooter comes to light, expressing, “Trina and Kai realize they are in possession of a piece of evidence that could blow Willow’s trial wide open. Their detective work results in identifying Drew’s shooter – but what they do with this information will stun viewers.”
In addition, the Quartermaines finally learn that Drew left Ned (Wally Kurth) to die outside Bobbie’s: “Tracy (Jane Elliot) is ready to take Drew down, but she’ll have to take a number. Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) is first in line, and she’s loaded for bear.”
LULU/NATHAN/MAXIE
In the story of Nathan (Ryan Paevey), or who ever he is, it looks like he and Lulu (Alexa Havins Bruening) will get even closer! The head scribes explained, when Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) ditches her mother, “Nathan assists Lulu in her search, but they find themselves in a surprising clinch long before they find Charlotte.”

Photo: ABC
Meanwhile, they share an update on the comatose Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) that she will come out of her deep sleep in 2026 and find things very different than when she left them explaining, “Her slumber wasn’t nearly as long as Lulu’s, but she’ll find her world much changed when she finally wakes up.”
And what about Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Jason (Steve Burton)? Will they have a future together in 2026? Not so fast, or not so slow as it has been so far. “Britt and Jason can’t deny their attraction,” explain the head scribes. “But their romance faces an immediate obstacle in the form of Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota) partner-in-crime. Britt makes moves to wall off Jason, but her resolve is tested when a blizzard strands them together.”
WHO’S GOT ANNA?
While Anna has been kidnapped, it apparently is not even the middle of her nightmare: “Anna’s situation goes from bad to worse when she’s called on by a voice from her past. She makes a bid for escape, but her captors are prepared with a contingency should she prove too difficult to control.” This will bring in concerns for the entire Scorpio family and with Emma (Braedyn Bruner) desperate to find her grandmother. Then, “Emma races to the rescue with Mac (John J. York) and Felicia (Kristina Wagner) when Anna is sighted. What happens next will prove traumatic for the Scorpios.”
ROCC-KED TO THE CORE
In one of the more ominous story points, Chris and Elizabeth share, Charlotte, “considers going full Cassadine” after a betrayal, prompting Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) to rally by her side. Meanwhile, “Rocco (Finn Carr) faces a stormy 2026, triggering a string of events that will result in the departure of one citizen of Port Charles, and dire consequences for others.”
So, which story point listed above and what was previewed by GH co-head writer, Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte has you most intrigued or excited about? Share your thoughts and your hopes in story for the characters you love, or love to hate on General Hospital via the comment section below.
No more dead characters!! GH has to deal with enough death with the real life actors dying.
There’s only one “real life actor” passing that requires addressing – Tristan Rogers (Robert). The show took the time to find a good window in story to address Monica’s passing. For Robert, they need to coordinate getting Emma Samms, Kimberly McCullough (and most likely) Sofia Mattson back for visits.
Lesley will likely be addressed down the line, once Laura’s current story with Sidwell wraps.
Hoping for a big payoff in The Who Shot Drew scenario.
Love that they’re giving the teen set meaningful storylines. Charlotte has the makings of a trouble making schemer for decades to come. Danny will have problems staying above the law and Rocco seems to have the knack of being the recipient of bad luck. As for which resident departs, Chase or Kai may be expendable. Marco will depart sometime in 2026 – but not likely related to Rocco.
No preview for Elizabeth Webber. This is shameful.
100% Agreed! Love GH but my girl Elizabeth needs a story and at least one of her children around her.
I agree , I don’t know why her boys are not around , the writers needs to bring one of her boys back. Let them be on the drama with the rest of the teenagers
I agree! They need to let Elizabeth Webber find some love in her life! (Kids are great, but when was the last time that we’ve last seen Aiden?) And Elizabeth deserves some happiness! As a retired RN, after 32 years of working and raising two now adult offspring, I can attest to the physical rigors of the stress of the work and challenges of working different shifts, especially nights. It takes it’s toll on you and your relationships, especially marriages and your children!
Also, I have to say to the writers that the way they portray working in a hospital is more then charts and the nurses station!
And nurses on duty don’t keep their jobs after leaving during their shift and driving around etc.! Willow should not have a job in the scenario!
Another year and Elizabeth has no storyline coming up is shameful, GH continues to ignore such a popular character. I don’t get it.
Agreed. Strong actress. Legacy character. Make it work, please, writers.
Agreed! This is ridiculous. The writers can come up with storylines for the same characters along with bringing characters back from the dead and bringing on new ones but they can not seem to write a story for Elizabeth (a legacy character). This is beyond dumb and a slap in the face to the actress and her fanbase. We have waited long enough. Give her a story (how about an adventure with Jason). Britt and Jason are boring….no chemistry. They should have never brought her back. Let Jason and Elizabeth have their turn.
Such a good show! Happy to watching something entertaining now, rather than Y&R.
None of them tried of all dumb storylines bring back the dead people adding on more stupid storylines and dragging the ones that’s now running too long
I’m not surprised about Michael, and his “escort” with “pretty woman” vibes, his love life is it’s own dumpster fire.
I think Jacinda shot Drew
Me too!
I think it has to be Scout. (or Sam back from the “dead”)
Sam is still in her air conditioned condo, right here in Hell. But I’m willing to negotiate her parole, if an offer is made.
As far as Scout doing it, that would explain a few things. Such as the lousy aim of the shooter. Or the fact that Michael was somewhere near Drew’s house on the night of the shooting, most likely saw someone or something, that he clearly does not want to talk about. And that would certainly qualify. Nobody wants to admit to seeing a kid shoot somebody, let alone a family member.
That said, I hope they don’t go there, since it would pretty much come off as a ripoff of 9 year old Rachel Black shooting her uncle EJ on Days of Our Lives. And that poor kid is locked up in the looney bin now, after several months of mentally blocking out the event.
The only Drew storyline I want to see is “How to Feed a Starving Dragon”
Don’t want any of it except Macie rejoining the story. I want Sam back, like so many others. Bring her back before ALL others or bleed more viewers.
Looks boring, truly. Until changes are made at the tippity top, nothing on this soap will ever truly shift. It’s also disappointing to see characters missing from this preview at the expense of others.
Frank isn’t going anywhere and the ratings are stable.
I didn’t say a single word about ratings so no clue why you felt the need to bring it up. Nor did I mentnion Valentini, either.
If not Valentini, what did you infer by “tippity top”?
He’s just a drama queen that has to correct everyone even when they are right.
You must be such a blast to hang out.
I think that when Gio played his violin o holy night was one of the. Most special meaning ful shows on a soap opera ever keep it up I loved it he is a special great addition to this show
I agree he is amazing
KATHY, please learn proper punctuation and proof read!
All I ask is stop with the retcon. And stop linking characters unnecessarily. It’s like the show’s allergic to legacy incontinuity.
The writers should never ever mess with Nathan/Maxie’s marriage by throwing Lulu in his orbit it’s so wrong it’s not even a joke the writers are that dumb. They don’t believe in marriage vows at all or the meaning by it cause if they did they shouldn’t have dumb blond lulu acting like a little school crushing on her Bff’s husband & try to think it’s okay it’s not. It’s so damn wrong!
But I know why the writers are doing it, but it still doesn’t make it right. Can the GH writers please put lulu back either Dante or back into her coma.
I would like to finally find out who shot Drew. This storyline with Drew getting away with everything, and Willow not being the strong woman that she use to be when she was with Michael, is tired out, played out, and just plain boring now. The only part that I do like about it is the way she is standing by Scout and making Drew stop hurting that little girl for his own selfish needs. Plus, and I’ve said this before, I wish they would bring the real Drew back and let it be found out that Martin’s brother has been keeping him hidden all of this time since he was beaten while in prison. We all know that the real Drew would have never had an affair with his nephew’s wife, nor do half of the things that this Drew has done. Let he and Jason meet up while Jason is trying to save Josslyn from the ISB. And let the person who shot this Drew be Sid Stilwell or his son snd they knew the real Drew was being held hostage to keep this Drew on their side. I would even say let this Drew be the guy that headed up the cult that Willow belonged to and was trying hard to get her back under his control, which she allowed him to do. , finally, I would love to see Lulu and Nathan get together, that way, Spinneli and Maxi can stay together. Well, that’s all of my wishes, except somebody please put a stop to Drew, and please let Portia’s baby be Dr Graham’s and not Trina’s dad. He needs to be free so that he can save Jordan from Sidwell.
Well im new to this but here goes. The person that shot drew has short hair. And how the hair looked there white. I think its Martin gray or sidew handy man . He is tired of what drew has been doing. As far as willow and micheal. She will be found not guilty. She will leave drew after all his lies come out. Micheal will.let her see the kids. Alex’s will get custody of scout. Danny will get to spend time with her. Lulu wakes up and of course is confused and Nathan. I also hope Nathan is not in any way with sidew. That would suck oh yes valentine will save Anna jack will come clean about to Carly. And could someone please bring back Jasper jack.
Sidwell’s “handy man” (Pascal) was still in Croatia at the Five Poppies Resort when Drew was shot, so he’s definitely not the one.
The producer , the writers need to bring back ( Sam , so she could save her daughter from Drew , bring back Scott , we need more drama , bring back Sasha , so Michael and Sasha could get back together , Chase if he keeps defending Willow , Brook- Lynn is going to leave him and end up with Donate , and Chase could back with Willow ) now Jason , needs a good woman in his life and Britt is not the one , he needs a woman that is going to accept him for who he is and is willing to help him raise Danny , cause Danny needs a mother figure in his life . Since they are bringing back the dead , bring back sam , let it be Sam that shot Drew or let it be Sasha . What does anyone think about this theory .
I hate all of the connections that you have made with these different characters. I don’t want drew back on GH. I can’t stand him and don’t want him back in any form. I think chase deliberately hate Michael because Michael took willow from him and I think Brooklyn is beginning to suspect this. I have always wanted Michael and Sasha together. I think Britt and Jason would make an excellent couple. Maxie and Nathan belongs together. If Sam comes back, she and Dante should be together. Lulu find someone that could tolerate her.
So, you want to bring back Sam just to send her to prison for shooting Drew?
Sam is unlikely to ever be brought back.
Jacinda shot Drew. I used to think it was Danny, but Jacinda is a throw away character.
What happened to Carley’s daughter? We want more of her. To many fires going with no focus. I dont want GH to become stagnet.
Did Kristina shoot Drew, Michael witnessed it and now he is protecting her? Am thinking of her testimony about Dawn of Day and being trained to use firearms.
Love Michael and Jacinta !!!! They have great chemistry !! Hopefully, we can see more of their lovestory and the Willow/Drew forever nightmare will be done !!!

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

Photo: PGibbons
IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

Photo: ABC
WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Courtesy/ABC
Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”
Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
You can check out the full conversation with Chad Duell below.
Now let us know: what show would you like to see Chad cast on down the line? BTG, DAYS, B&B, Y&R, or a new role on GH? What did you think of his thoughts on the casting switch while he was away in the role of Michael? What was your favorite Michael storyline during Chad’s 15-year run on the ABC soap opera? General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Ric’s History of Jealousy Where Elizabeth is Concerned Has Come Back Around

On General Hospital, Ric Lansing (Rick Heart) is about to fall back into dangerous old patterns by the foreshadowing during the Wednesday, August 19 episode. After first coming to see his brother, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and telling him of his plan to propose to Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) his longtime love tonight, Sonny has concerned.
Next, Sonny reminds his brother of what has happened in the past, when things have gone south with Elizabeth and wonders if it’s too soon for him to propose to her. What Ric did not tell Sonny is that he has seen the developing closeness between Sonny’s son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Elizabeth, which is propelling his urgent need to propose.
Meanwhile, Dante ran into Elizabeth at the park during a break from their mutual team softball games. She needs help with a bookcase after the game at her house. Dante wants to put it together for her. Later, Dante arrived at Elizabeth’s house, limping after injuring his knee during the game. Head nurse Liz wanted to check out the injury as much as Dante protested, which required him to take off his pants.

RIC BEGINS TO UNRAVEL
Outside Elizabeth’s widow, Ric arrives with a bouquet of roses and the engagement ring. When he leers through the widow he is shocked to see Elizabeth rubbing Dante’s leg while Dante is in his boxer/shorts. He storm troops into the house, demanding to know what is going on here? Both Elizabeth and Dante look surprised by his reaction. In the pick-up of today’s Thursday, August 20 episode (see GH video teaser below), viewers will learn the upshot for all three characters.
A VENGEFUL PAST
As longtime GH fans know, Ric has done some horrible, vengeful things in regards to Elizabeth starting back in 2003 after she lost her baby after Ric’s ex, Faith Rosco pushed her down a flight of stairs. Ric accused Sonny for the accident and to get revenge, Ric kidnapped Carly (who was married to Sonny at the time), and stashed her in a panic room below the house where he was living with Liz.
On top of that, Ric fed his wife Elizabeth birth control pills to keep her from getting pregnant so that they could raise Carly’s baby together after it was born. Eventually, Elizabeth found Carly in the panic room but ended up having a pulmonary embolism. When she woke up in the hospital, Elizabeth was all confused by what happened, and Ric convinced her that her vision of Carly was just a bad dream. Eventually, Elizabeth learned the horrifying truth and divorced Ric.
Years later, Ric noticed the connection between Elizabeth and “Jake Doe” who eventually turned out to be Drew (Billy Miller) A jealous Ric hired Hayden Barnes to show up and claim to be “Jake’s” wife. Elizabeth stepped aside, and when Ric planned to propose to Elizabeth at the 2015 Nurses Ball, Carly exposed his manipulations, and Elizabeth dumped him yet again. And those are just two examples of the lengths Ric will go to for Elizabeth!
So, we ask you, given the history of Elizabeth and Ric, how do you see this playing out with Dante in the picture? How will Ric derail their growing bond? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
