GENERAL HOSPITAL: A Murder Mystery Begins! Is Michael Easton Playing Dual Roles? – Watch The Promo!

Courtesy/ABC
Leave it to the clever creative team of Cartini to come up with this one! The big question is, is this the chance for soap favorite Michael Easton (John McBain) to play dual roles? Or, could John become Caleb the vampire, because of the situation with usage of the One Life to Live characters by Prospect Park? Or, was this in the works anyway?
These are just some of the burning questions that have ignited over the latest ABC promo for General Hospital! In it, newbie Rafe played by Jimmy Deshler is pointing the finger at John McBain for a mysterious and shocking murder in the town of Port Charles! The promo tag line, “The cop behind the case … is also the prime suspect” makes us wonder just where this story of the “Return of the Vampires” saga from the defunct soap Port Charles could be headed.
Lucy and Kevin are in the mix and they have history with Caleb, Livvie and most likely Rafe! And then we have that undeniable chemistry that came out of nowhere between John and Sam (Kelly Monaco) who both actors have revealed, in interviews in 2012 with On-Air On-Soaps, how comfortable it is for them to work with each other, which for viewers translates to “hot” couple!
Whatever the case, watch the promo in question after the jump and then weigh-in on what you think is going on with Michael Easton’s character or characters on GH? And remember, February Sweeps is upon us! Big story with big returns!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

As much as I LOVE seeing Michael Easton in his own storyline because looking at him makes my day, I really don’t want vampires on the show. Please no vampires!!! It’s so SILLY!! If it’s a murder mystery then I’m game.
I agree just when I thought the show was good this happens!!!
I love the drama.. and nobody is sure it will be a murder by a vampire…
I really do not believe that will happen..
There are other ways this story can be told, without vampires but something else that happened back when in Port Charles and neither McBain or Sam will be turning into vampires lol ..
and whichever way it will be it will be awesome!!!
do not jump to speculations – this will not be what many will assume it will be 🙂
RC loves This stuff/tricking us ..
From what I’ve read, Kevin has an explanation for Lucy’s insistance about the existance of vampires. Based on that, if the spoilers are accurate, this will be a straight forward murder mystery with Caleb coming to Port Charles as a mortal and ME playing dual roles (possibly Kelly Monaco playing dual roles too). I hope this is Cartini’s way of keeping ME on the canvas and returning the character of John to Llanview for recasting. I watched Port Charles & loved it but would be okay with Cartini’s revising the Port Charles history if it means keeping ME on GH.
I agree, Ella. I don’t think it would be that hard to revise the history. When watching the old clips, it looks like everyone was on LSD or something, especially with the whole Steven Clay Experience when everyone was just mesmerized by Caleb on the stage.
I just hate that they have to kill off Alison Barrington. It is nice to see Erin Hershey Presley back on the screen. She still looks the same. She had chemistry with everyone. I realize GH is full now, but it would still have been nice.
you’re right SU, RC does love to trick us. I only hope they leave PC where it belongs in daytime heaven. Show is too good to turn into a cartoon.
I hate that poor Allison has to die. 🙁
I am all for John McBain becoming Caleb Morley as that was when Michael Easton was at his best. However, I am wondering what kind of person Caleb would be this time around. You can’t make him too much of a heal – he would have to have some redeeming qualities or he will not last long and I think Michael Easton and Kelly Monaco have that old magic again and it would be a shame to squander it.
In any event, it remains to be seen how the Prospect Park deal will hinder what GH has going on with the characters of Todd, Starr, and John and the actors who play them.
who’s Allison?
Alison Barrington was on Port Charles. She was the grand daughter of a wealthy family. Her mother was really messed up. Alison had a one-night stand with Caleb Morley (a vampire), married an angel, and was destined to give birth to the vampire’s baby. 🙂 The night of the one-night stand, Livvie (played by Kelly Monaco) stole Caleb’s ring (it had magical powers) and made a wish for him to have the most romantic night of his life. Livvie had meant for it to be with her, but he was with Alison in the barn at the time of the wish.
Seriously, Alison had strong ties to the Port Charles spin-off of GH.
I have been watching some old clips of the show and realized that Caleb was not really that bad a person. He had a nice friendship with Alison. Rafe was more of a problem. I guess I can see, if they go this way, Michael Easton becoming Caleb again. He was not as horrible as I remember – I guess I remember the fangs. In actuality, he played many parts and even was a singer in a band which ties right into GH history as there have been many singers/actors.
Clever isn’t a word I would use for this storyline………….
We do not have an idea as to what this story will actually be …
It well may be very clever, as RC would sorta say- wait for it and watch .. 🙂
Well suoooo I value your opinion- I was going to take a break from GH while all this vampire stuff was going on- but as long there are no fangs, glowing red eyes, and hissing, perhaps I can overlook the supernatural element to get to an good old fashion who done it. I’m enjoying GH since I started watching in Nov. hate to give up so soon– therefore I hope you are right.
Looks exciting!!! Hope it’s not a vampire story… and just a great mystery! Can’t wait!
Just because vampires worked for Dark Shadows doesn’t mean it needs to be repeated. Bringing vampires to GH isn’t clever, just silly and stupid.
I have not seen any vampires in PC and doubt we will see any ..
I’m all for vampires its so much more fun and entertaining than the other silly plots like Connie’s DID.
You have a point…. Why Connie? and not Kate? Kate was loving…. Fun…. a woman of substance…. woman of Power… her magazine…. working with Carly… and she was actually radiant w/Sonny…. Poor Sonny! No Brenda… OK! someone has to partner with them at times…. So now… the writers would have us believe/accept that NOW it’s Connie and Sonny who are now falling for each other? They have Connie going out of her way to be “Mean” just because….???? Her DID is doing all this?
The possibility for human interest stories…was all their…. for Kate….
1… falling in love w/Sonny.
2… being a mother to Trey.
3… an ex… in Joe Scully, Jr.
4. a cousin in Olivia.
what little chance we had of seeing the above… was squandered… for DID.
LETS GIVE PROPS TO NEWBIES…. WHO ARE ESSENTIAL TO SOAPS SUCCEEDING…. WE CAN’T ALWAYS RELY ON THE DAYS OF OLE… THE ORIGINAL ACTORS… WHO’VE COME AND GONE…. yes, GH these days due to the 50th anniversary is bringing back major stars…
but… Trey and Joe Scully Jr… were making an impact… and so was Kate…. Human interest stories…. IMO. i’d like to throw in Ellie in the mix of new potential long term contract playors who could have made an impact….
Patrick makes some very good points. Soaps evolve. A serial cannot remain as it was, but it can remain excellent in its stroytelling. GH at least is trying very hard and its efforts have revived the genre much as it did in 1980-1981. That said, I do not care for supernatural stories and the vampire thing is now in the rearview mirror. I miss romance, family conflict, more hospital stories and intrigue. But GH is working on all cylinders and I am hopeful.
Yeah waited a long time for Alison to get killed! Any thoughts on bringing Tom Ph. from GL as a new Dante and have some incredible dante carly sonny storiline???
I’m down for whatever! It is the best soap on daytime right now. Who was killed though?
Ilovwe Michael Easton but my hope is he will eventually be on OLTL.
I agree Terri – exactly where he belongs. All this other stuff is just tooo far fetched!!
i’m curious to see where this goes. but i as well hope its not a vampire storyline,
Who is the kid that says him? He’s not a GH regular, is he?
Rafe. Newbie. I heard he’s Caleb’s son. He does look like he could be John Easton’s son.
This storyline is DUMB. GH has become a joke.
Huh?! :- How can this S/L be Dumb when it hasn’t even started yet?! Smh. How about you let it play out first before judging.
Because it’s centering around this vampire story, which is the dumbest thing I’ve seen since making TSJ not Todd Manning. It’s dumb. Ron’s writing and storytelling is sloppy.
What exactly is will the story be??
We do not know..
There is a murder that McBain is accused of, not by his vampire fangs LOL
I doubt the story will have anything to with vampires outside of Lucy having flash backs to another time and place, not the present ….
LOL I do not see Sam and McBain turning into vampires in GH except in Lucy’s mind.
well, it’s started and it’s DUMB! Agree Scott.
It is dumb. And it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to the storylines they had going on prior. And, if McBain does return to OLTL, this has to be written into the story, which will make ZERO sense to those who will be watching the reboot (not me unless they can radically change the bad direction the series was going into).
FV & RC need to wipe this dumb story off the air. Maybeee it sounded good on paper but it’s ridiculous onscreen. Yeah, I’m not watching any reboot either; my hands are full with GH & Days (both of which are currently annoying me).
Stoopid, Stoopid, STOOPID. Craptini and his second hand embarrassing camp strikes again. Best thing about the OLTL re-boot? #OLTLRCFree2013
We have no clue if or if not there will even be a vampire..(extremely not)
We do not know what this new story will be ..
I think it will be a great murder mystery staring ME/McBain along with others who will rock this story.
I am looking forward to it ..
Judging something before even knowing what it will be ortseeing it………….well……
I would think that they might not want to repeat the dumb vampire stuff after all that’s what sunk Port Charles
Mary, PC was sunk already and that is why they tried to do telenovela style with the arcs. The vampire arc entitled, TAINTED LOVE (which was very good, by the way), did not do them in.
PC was terrible before Tainted Love. With the book format staring with Tainted Love, PC actually became interesting and fun to watch. Great cast, great campy fun.
I couldn’t agree with you more Mary! First GH brought in the OLTL actors (which I love Roger Howarth) and now they’re bringing all this Port Charles nonsense in — can’t this show JUST be GH?! Vampire story is already striking out and embarrasing to watch. If it weren’t for Luke/Tracy, AJ/Sonny, Patrick finding out about Britt, I could have easily not watched yesterday’s episode.
I don’t know how many times it has been said that there WON’T be any actual Vampires on GH. So Chill.
Anyway, I’m very intrigued by this Promo. I Love a Good Murder Mystery. And I’m all for Michael Easton’s character becoming (a human) Caleb if it keeps him on GH. PP can have John back if they must. ME was at his Best when he portrayed that multi-layered character on PC. It was also a very Popular character as well. So I’m game.
This show also Needs a Great Romance. Kelly and Michael have proven that they still have IT. So bring on McBam or Caleb/Sam……either one will do. 😉
Couldn’t agree more! People should let this play out a bit before jumping to conclusions. Cartini has done a great job with GH & the show has made an amazing turnaround. Kelly & Michael have awesome chemistry together. I can’t wait to see where this atoryline goes. Haters can hate all they want, I will support the last remaining of my favorite soaps.
Def like this storyline… I am def ok with vampires.. brings be back to the storyline with Malena being possessed by the devil…Good to have a far fetched story to watch… I get very tired of the three way love triangle….
also Kudos for the baby story that is happening on GH. Very unigue and good writing there..
Best soap on the air!
I think that GH rocks and love what Frank and Ron have done with the show in 1 year. Back in 1984 I got my 1st vcr actually a beta max and never watched the shows live. Then in September, I started watching love with the commercials because I did not want to wait at all to see the show. That is really telling.
Some may not like the vampire storyline, but I am willing to watch it unfold..I loved Port Charles..It was different. I had to suspend belief. But it was fun..I do not think that vampires are going to be on GH. But Frank and Ron have a big hurdle to cross to invent a way to keep Michael Easton on GH since apparently Prospect Park wants John McBain back..I think that Michael brings a lot to the table and if we have to pull the Caleb card out in order to have him stay then , I say “Go for it.” Do I think that eventually it will be explained away and that Caleb will be human..”Yes” I do not think vampires are to be on the canvas on GH.. But, if they are touching on the vampires and having a young Rafe come to GH, then I hope that Ron and Frank decide to bring Brian Gaskill to the show..He had great chemistry with Kelly and could be a great leading man for some of the many single females..
I wonder what magic stories will have to be written to have Roger Howarth and Kristen Alderson stay on GH. I want the 3 of them to stay on GH..Frankly I think that the 3 of them must want to stay in LA and on tv not a internet show…It is more exposure and they are such a great fil on the show.
YES!!!
I agree. I want all three of them to stay on GH and I don’t care how they twist the story so that can happen. I loved Port Charles when it was on and I’m sure I will love whatever Frank and Ron have in store for us.
I’m more confused than ever, but I hope the PC story was all a psychic dream to predict what is coming.
Who is actually going to be murdered?
Allison Barrington from Port Charles. She was played by Erin Hershey Presley.
I hope Caleb whoever comes back as a mortal and sweeps Sam off of her feet. John McBain belongs to OLTL and that’s where I want to see him with Natalie. The only bad thing here is that Michael Easton will probably stay on the East Coast. Until JOLIE is reunited……………………………
I figured they’d have to retire TM, JM and SM character names somehow, at least for a while until PP says it’s ok to use the character names again… I thought it would be more plausable for Detective McBain to go undercover and use some other name for a while…. would be the first time Det. McBain has done that. Todd could use one of his alters’ names for a while… Star… hmm. not sure unless she marries Michael real fast, then at least her character name could be Star Corinthos! ha!
oh, that should read “would NOT be the first time Det. McBain has done that….”
It could be good game to keep ME/MbBain on GH if he were for awhile Caleb / not using the name/character of McBain which belongs to PP //
Also..
Tod now being in the loony bin could somehow become a different character using one of his other names not owned by PP , but yet still be Todd using a different name playing a head game to get as being someone else to no go to prison..
Perhaps they have Todd fake DID again and use a phony alter !!
something as that could be in the works..
It is just the characters name that can not be used.
oops I’m typing on a 3 inch key board with big fingers lol
Todays’sEpisode….What was it about?
Kevin, said he don’t have a daughter name Livvie?
Somebody, please clear it up for me!!!!
I am looking forward to John and Sam hooking up!!!!
I’ve barely paid attention and that’s not a good sign – not when GH has been so good!! OY!
Someone is having a bad dream
IMO, this whole vampire story line sux…LOL
OMG, DITTO!!!!!
I love the show, I particular love Rafe….he looks like John Mcbain
If the casting director would do something for me?…now I LOVE THE BABY NAME DANNY
he is adorable….and he is a good fit and he’s a good child…..but they can recast the baby
With blue eyes and dark hair……I Think they can do it
The baby would look more like the mother then the father JASON…JUST A THOUGHT!!!!
Also I LOVE JOHN AND SAM!!!!
I WATCHED ALL THEIR VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE
CALIVIA
HATING this convoluted crap so far!!!! Come on GH get back to what we love.
I totally agree with you. You’d think they could figure out what not to do after the two shows they are modeling after have been cancelled
Right?? lol… exactly!
I think GH old time fans need to allow Cartini to develop this vampire storyline. I am not convinced that we will see vampires among PC residents as Cartini have already tampered a bit with PC backstory. It is a bit unbelievable that Lucy or Alison would care about Livvie since at the end of Port Charles Caleb and Livvie married. I think it is an opportunity to put ME/KM as a new couple. An attempt to explain this inexplicable connection that they seem to have to one another. However, the arrival of Rafe (presumably the child of Alison and Caleb) I really do wander if a Caleb Morley will appear but not in a vampire form. We have had two decades of “mob rule” and it is time for something different.
I for one am already irritated with what they are doing to GH. I watched OLTL and
GH and loved that GH stayed away from DID and the Port Charles
Vampire stuff. Both OLTL & PC are gone because of ratings because
of poor story lines. The last remaining ABC soap is now doing both of these
story lines, even if just hinting at it. This show will tank too. I know I fast forward
through almost all of the show now to the point I am almost done watching
it.
Dear Sir/Madam:
I think that John McBain should not play a villian in General Hospital. I want for Starr and Todd to remain family on General Hospital. Why can’t you find someone else to play the villian. McBain can still be the cop until One Life To Live gets back on its feet. I hope that McBain can be the good guy until its time for him to go back to OLTL….Thank you.
Is there any word on Brian Gaskill? Is RC planning on bringing his RAFE back to GH?
with General in its 50th year and Cartini writing for it, I thin you will find nothing is as it seems. They are giving a nod to everything, including the ice princess that would freeze the world, remember the alien that came to visit? GH has always taken chances. Stay with the story, I think you will find out it is more than you think it is. Remember Cartini were the writers for OLTL, they were experts at bait and switch and nothing was as it seemed. I think the ending will be worth the wait.
