General Hospital’s Adam Huss and Nicholas Chavez Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’

Last week, much of the buzz was all about the highly-anticipated emotional reunion between Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss), and his son Spencer (Nicholas Chavez) on General Hospital. Would Nikolas actually go through with it and try to make amends with his oldest son, and would he finally meet his younger son, Ace?

Well, the scenes lived up to the hype and with a HUGE assist from Joey Clay (Ace) who is one half of the fantastic twin siblings who play the part, the other being Jay Clay. Needless to say, it was riveting drama where we are sure many in the viewing audience reached for the hankies.

When Nikolas comes to Laura’s and Spencer opens the door, after the shock of it all, Spencer hears his father out. Nikolas says, “I did abandon Ace, but he wasn’t the only son I walked out on.”

Spencer replies with disappointment, “I’m used to you disappearing by now.”  Nikolas admits he failed at letting Spencer know how much he loved him, but that some of his favorite times were when they were together when Spencer was younger. Then, in a heart-tugging moment, Spencer breaks down in tears and tells his father, “You were my whole world. I loved you so much.”

Later, Nikolas overhears Ace crying. Spencer goes to get the little one and hands him to Nikolas saying, “Ace, this is your dad.”  What happens next are the moments that had many GH viewers talking about; just how little Ace leaned into his father’s chest with such comfort and reacted to the drama playing out before him. It gave Adam Huss even more to draw on for his touching performance.

Next, Nikolas gets Spencer to hand over Ace in his plan to leave town with the young one as the best way to protect him from Esme (Avery Pohl). In yet another heartbreaking moment in the scenes, Spencer tells his baby brother how much he loves him and then threatens his father; that if he ever hurts or abandons Ace he will make him pay.

When Ace’s baseball cap is left behind, Spencer runs to retrieve it to catch-up with his father, only Esme is at the door. What ensues is Spencer letting Esme know that Ace is gone and Nikolas has him as he stands up to Esme for all her lies, and manipulations. He even calls her out knowing she is now pretending not to have her memory back when she does!

Adam Huss and Nicholas Chavez played the history of the relationship of this volatile father/son relationship, and made it work effortlessly. That is not an easy thing to do given they were not the original actors in their respective roles.

Nicholas Chavez showed once again why he is an actor with the brightest of futures with his effective and nuanced work. While Adam Huss also shined as the conflicted father, trying to make amends, showing us Nikolas’ heart, but always seemingly having an agenda. And as for our little MVP’s Joey and Jay Clay, they certainly have taken to Chavez and Huss and amped up the drama perfectly.

For all these reasons mentioned above, Michael Fairman TV names Adam Huss and Nicholas Chavez work as the Power Performances of the Week.

Now below, check out the key scenes again. Then let us know what you thought of Adam and Nicholas, and the Clay brothers, in last week’s episodes of GH via the comment section.

You already know how we feel about these scenes., your amazing!

Unpopular Opinion, I would have given this to Cynthia Watros. She was stellar on Friday. These two were great too though. GH just has the strongest group of actors on their cast!

I agree. The cup runneth over last week with three power performers.

Yes, you are right. She did show her real miserable self, didn’t she? Hope this is the beginning of the end of this terrible character.

Nina is not a “miserable” person but she has had a lot of misery, most recently because of bch Carly. I have no desire for “Nina” to leave the show. What I’d like to see is her FINALLY have a relationship with her daughter, which would mean the writers have to undo the mess the current writers made of Willow, who is not less a bch at this point than Carly.

Agreed about Cynthia—I do not like Huss—-and, Spence’s light has been spent for me. He and oh-so-boring nuTrina are both trying to act like sophisticated adults—a wash!!
Esme is being accused of something she, most likely, didn’t do. She has been kidnapped—does that sound feasible? Who did this? Nikolas? Spencer himself? How about her mother? Sonny? Maybe Cyrus arranged for Esme to look for Ace with an “escort”.

Another week, another great performance by the cast. I would love to see “GH” bring back Adam Huss as an on-contract actor. He was amazing in the scenes with Ace and Spencer, but he and Ava’s (Maura West) scenes had great chemistry. It seems Nik has a lot of storylines that would capture us, from Elizabeth, Spencer, Esme, Ava, Laura, etc.

A few more comments:

Please make Anna a strong character again. It seems the storyline with Charlotte and Valentin has disappeared. For months, she was at the Metro Court talking to Sonny about everything. Now, she is sitting by herself at a bar sharing stories with Drew (?). Finola is a gem and deserves more.

I hope the show is ready to move in a different direction now that Nina has been outed for her part with Drew going to prison. It seems too much time is spent obsessing about Sonny, trying to build a relationship with Willow or exchanging hate with Carly. Again, an amazing actor, but it beginning to be one note.

The book Anna was reading is a real book, “Never Get Angry Again” I did order a copy as it looks like a good read.

Should play up Sonny character more now that he’s found Nina out. Nina is always the victim of her own villain ways. Let’s see her get some of her own medicine back for what she did. To move on without any consequences or ending the storyline would be disappointing. As she’s still in bed with Cyrus and about to be with Valentin. Drew move with firing and replacing her with Carly was EPIC!! I had to watch the show 2x cause it was so amazing. Sonny needs to find out Ava’s role too since he’s been protecting her. Let the real Esme come out so she can finally pay for her crimes. She’s gotten away too long and now fooling Laura who’s helped her. Laura now turning on her family for Esme. Willow should have more compassion & understanding for Michael. He was protecting her, so she is turning on him for the first problem in the marriage. I feel bad for Michael. He’s tried to protect his family and everyone except his mom understands. Kudos to Carly.

Are you serious! The scenes with that vile toxic character were awful!! Hopefully under Patrick Mulcahey Carly will finally get her comeuppance. Better yet maybe he will write her out and bring her back with Sarah Joy Brown!

Unfortunately the rumors of Tamara Braun returning don’t have legs.

What are you watching!!!! LOL. Nina is and always has been a victim, and I’m sick of her constantly paying the price. Her mother hurt her, Harmony hurt her, Sasha hurt her, Carly hurt her and since she’s been out of that coma the most important thing to her has been to find her kids who were taken from her while she lay helpless IN that coma. Nina’s been through enough; she deserves to finally be happy.

Carly is possibly the most vile character on the show. Has been for decades. It’s time she pays.

What? Where do get this stuff? Nina is no saint, and as I said before, she’s an angel compared to Carly Succubus..

The little boys who play Ace should be included in this.

Yes, they were amazing weren’t they and it was all natural reactions, no acting here!

I don’t think the little actors who play baby Ace are acting; I just think they’re mellow, sweet, kids who are affectionate and trusting. And seemingly always tired, lol.

Hate this Nicolas

Really such a harsh term. And you should know it’s spelled Nikolas – pointed out numerous times in the article.

Ace is a Quartermaine not a Cassadine Michael is his real father.

That’s 666% complete dragonshit.

Ace is definitely a Cassadine, fathered by Nikolas or Spencer, and Esme is his mother. In what world do you think Michael was ever with Esme?

LOL; I think you’ve posted this somewhere else. What are you on? Must be good. 😉

When is Carly ever gone get ALL her paybacks. Like she has been a saint… She IS definitely NO Saint. ALL of the years of manipulations, hatred and nastiness she has issued. Let’s not forget ALL the years of deceptions. She needs to do some major reaping. I’m tired of how everyone is wrong and does everything wrong. Except for her “special” self. Keeping life changing, life altering secrets from others. While being a freaking hippo…crite…

I totally agree, Lisa. Watching her strut into CRIMSON like some conquering hero made me ill. It just means yet ANOTHER Carly-centric tale with her latest swain Droop. And her first CRIMSON feature article should be “Clumping Shoes – Empowering or Embarrassing?”

I agree. Carly entered the show as a hateful and conniving young woman. She has continued as such throughout the years. She I always redeemed and forgiven. However let someone cross her or stand up to her because she has wronged them and Holy H*** hits the roof. I would love to see Carly suffer for her wrong doings. She may then actually change and be an honestly good person.

Thank you Lisa! One hundred percent agree. On a side note, I loved AJ and it always bothered me how she got away with everything she did to him, and now it’s rinse/repeat with Nina. I can’t stand how Carly isn’t even called out by the other “people” in Port Charles, while Nina is the one who’s always hurt and ostracized. It’s hard to watch.

Good talk Nic and Spencer. Hope ya’ll find your way back.. Both older now. And hopefully a more mature and lovin family oriented storyline will be displayed betwixt you 2..

@michaelfairman
Are Chris & Dan out? Twitter has numerous posts listing Korte as interim HW.

You had me crying! You were amazing and this little guy is so precious.

I guess I put my foot in it. LOL—I so want to make Esme the good girl—Wishful thinking!!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
