GH’s Adrian Anchondo Delivers the ‘Power Performance of the Week’

This week on General Hospital, Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo) was put through the wringer. First, his homophobic mother, Natalia (Eva LaRue) hit rock bottom. After crashing Daisy’s christening and her confrontation with Sonny (Maurice Benard), she realizes she has been duped, as Sonny is not coming with her to Belize as he had promised her.

Once back at the Metro Court Hotel, she proceeds to pop pills and drunk text her son. Marco is with Lucas (Van Hansis) at Carly’s having dinner. Sadly, we learn from Marco that Natalia has drunk texted her son numerous times over the years. Marco can’t make out her gibberish on the text thread. He is consoled by Lucas, but Marco has been furious with his mother up to this point.

Eventually, Marco tells his mother in a text he is coming over, but at that point, she has passed out. On his way to the Metro Court, Marco saves Kristina (Kate Mansi) from the raging fire (set by his father, Jenz Sidwell) at Charlie’s. After he and Kristina escape the fire, and Marco becomes a hero, he needs to get checked out at General Hospital.

Once he arrives, he is hit with devastating news as Lucas, Anna (Finola Hughes) and Chase (Josh Swickard), all try to talk to him about Natalia. However, Marco pushes past them and sees Natalia’s lifeless body in her hospital room. The image of Marco at the door with tears welling up in his eyes in gut-wrenching, emotional anguish was so well-played. Our hearts broke for Marco.

Later, he sits by his mother’s bedside and tells her he loves her, no matter all the pain she caused him throughout the years. In that moment, Marco came to the full realization that his choice to save Kristina, instead of high-tailing directly to the Metro Court, may have cost Natalia her life or his chance to say good-bye to her. Marco will never know, and now must carry this burden with him the rest of his life.

After he comes out of Natalia’s hospital room, he sits down with Lucas and later Anna and Chase come to question him. Sadly, Marco says, “I was able to save Kristina, but I wasn’t able to save my mother.” After losing his mom, and saving Kristina, the emotional toll of the events cause Marco to blame Sonny Corinthos for the death of his mother.

Next, Lucas calls Sidwell (Carlo Rota) to let him know about Natalia and Marco. Jenz heads to the hospital to be with his son, and the two hug each other, as Sidwell learns Marco was also in the fire he set which devastates him.

Throughout all of these scenes, Adrian Anchondo met the moment. He broke out hearts, not only with his eyes (the window to the soul) but his reactions felt so honest and pure. We felt his devastation as the brutal events of the evening played out. That is why Michael Fairman TV names Adrian’s work, the Power Performance of the Week.

Now let us know, were you touched by Adrian’s performance this week on General Hospital? Did you reach for the hankies? Do you think now the show has set up Marco and Lucas  in a push-pull relationship with Sonny and Sidwell having a mob war with each other, which will in turn, cause tremendous conflict? Well done Adrian.

Can the writers explain how he goes by the last name Rios?

Sidwell is his father’s last name. Assume that Ramirez was Natalia’s last husband (Blaze’s dad as her non stage name is Allison Ramirez). At first, they referred to Natalia as “Rogers-Ramirez” but the Rogers was dropped after a month or two. So, where did “Rios” come from?

I was assuming Rios was a “madeup” name, because as a lawyer, Marco wouldn’t want to be associated with his father’s criminal doings. And he didn’t want to be associated with his mother at all, obviously.

Maybe “Rios” was the name of one of his grandmothers, like Jason took Lila’s maiden name and used it for himself?

I am pretty sure Marcus said something like that to Alexis.

Great actor! Love Marco with Lucas. These scenes were great!

Well deserved— he’s quite a find. He made viewers really feel for him when he saw his mother’s lifeless body and his scenes with his father are powerful. I also think he has great chemistry with Lucas and that they’re very sweet together. He just clicks with every character with whom he interacts.

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
