By now, General Hospital fans have seen or know from social media, that the character of Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo) met his maker on today’s March 25 episode of the ABC daytime drama series. Marco was stabbed by WSB Director Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), was rushed to GH, Dr. Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson) performed surgery to save him, but he still passed away.

On this emotional day for actor, Adrian Anchondo, not only did he say farewell to the character he created on-screen, but it was the end of the line for the LGBTQ love story of Marco and Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis), something that is not lost on Anchondo.

After his final scenes aired on the East Coast, Anchondo took to his Instagram account with a post that contained images from Marco’s sad end, Adrian’s goodbyes at the set, and a moment where he took a liquor shot in honor of Marco … RIP.

HIS MOTHER WOULD BE PROUD

Anchondo, made his Port Charles debut a year ago in March, and over time, viewers saw different shade of Marco: the good, the bad, the vengeful, but it appeared his love for Lucas would win out, until he stole the vials of Britt’s medications and then everything went bust.

Sharing his sentiments on his time on GH, Anchondo expressed, “I started this journey with a story about my mother, how she was with me in spirit at my screen test for Marco, hiding in the compact she used to do her make up in while she watched soap operas on the couch. Now, I know she is looking down and proud of me for all the work I’ve done in the past year on one of the best shows ever created. She is proud of me for showing up every day and leading with kindness and respect, for fighting through my insecurities and anxiety, and for letting my heart shine through a character that had questionable intentions.”

REPRESENTING THE LGBTQUI AND LATINO COMMUNITY ON DAYTIME TV

“I’m also proud of myself for doing the work, for representing the LGBTQI and Latino community, and for constantly recognizing the magic that every single person on the show creates,” the openly gay actor said.

Taking the temperature of GH fans, who were hoping against hope that today Marco would survive, Adrian added, “I know fans are sad (believe me I’m still grieving) but I’m just one small piece in a much bigger picture. This isn’t about me, it’s about what’s best for the story. I can’t believe the amount of love I’ve received especially in the last few days. I hope I made you proud. To my queer fans, don’t be discouraged, we will keep spreading our love and fighting for that happy ending.”

FINAL ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

In his final “Thank You’s,” Anchondo acknowledged several key cast members who he attributes helping him get through the hard times and those who showed him the love.

“Thank you General Hospital, ABC and Disney for making a dream come true” he began.”Thank you Mark Teschner (casting director, GH) for seeing something in me and Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) and the Directors for bringing that something out of me. You changed my life and I will be forever grateful. Thank you to Colton Little (Andrew, DAYS) for being by my side, running lines. hyping me up, and holding me through the sad parts.Thank you to my Grandma and cousins for cheering me on. Thank you to the amazing cast especially Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) for your wisdom and kindness. Carlo Rota (Sidwell) for your support, guidance and friendship, and of course to my amazing friend, Van Hansis for holding my hand in more ways than one – you made it easy to fall in love with you. Thats a wrap on Marco! I hope everyone loved him as much as I did. We went out with a bang. On to the next big thing”

I am not surprised that Marco bit the dust but I am very sad. I really liked Marco and loved his relationship with Lucas. Getting involved with his evil father in order to get revenge on Sonny was his downfall.

Thank you to Adrian for your great work in bringing Marco to life. I wish you tremendous success in the future and look forward to seeing you again.

To TPTB: PLEASE do not try to reunite Lucas with that chronic schemer and liar Brad. Lucas has grown as a person and gone way beyond the likes of Brad.

I agree. Lucas and Brad are history. I would like to see Lucas have a strong storyline of grief and rebuilding his emotional world. Perhaps there could be some new characters coming to Port Charles that are not mob-related or part of a vague international conspiracy and spy game. One of those characters might be a man for Lucas to love. Soaps lately seem to rely so heavily on history at expense of growth.GH tells tightly woven compelling stories with suspense and emotion and I do appreciate that strength of the program.

yes, I’m sad he’s leaving especially since the character redeemed himself but its also sad that a show where their biggest star (Maurice Benard) is latino cant seem to have more latino actors, and to then killed them off in such a violent fashion just left a bad taste for my fave show. Come on GH do better.

I am extremely sad over the death of Marco but very happy GH introduced us to Adrain and I will look for him in his next project.

Definitely gonna be missed! Loved Marco and Lucas together.

I’m sure he has a bright future ahead!

They should have killed off Cullum and not Marco.

Killing off Cullum would have irreparably damaged Rocco, and they wisely did not do that to a teen and especially one tied to Luke and Laura.

I am aware of that, but I just despise the character.

I agree I’m so mad Lucas and Marco would have went the distance I couldn’t help to hold out hope they would save him.

I agree!!!

YES

Now I’m mad!

What I don’t get is Marco was stabbed on Friday but was taken to the hospital and was being operated on. That gave me hope that Marco would pull through. Why didn’t they just have Marco die when he got stabbed instead of giving us hope that he would live? That’s what has me upset over this.

Unspeakably sad. Lucas finally finds the love of his life only to have that love brutally murdered. Anchondo beautifully fleshed put the role of Marco, and he shall be missed. Please don’t let Lucas go back to Brad. That would be quite the mark down.

Even though I sensed this was coming, I was wishing and hoping I was wrong. Adrian did such a great job in this role. I cried watching the scenes today with both Lucas and Sidwell…and I cried reading Adrian’s goodbye message. I just pray they don’t pair Lucas again with Brad. This week is hatching so many good NEW storylines!

Such thoughtful words from a very sweet guy. You can tell this role was important to Adrian and he put a lot into it.

Marco’s run started with great potential and ended in an amazing umbrella storyline.

Best of luck to Adrian going forward. Thanks for bringing “to life” a refreshing take on a gay character.

Indeed ! Adrian’s Marco was as refreshing as the two main characters in “Heated Rivalry”.

and I promise you OG Steve… I won’t go “all Conor”, lol. But I am still very sad over Adrian’s departure from the shoe.

Did not like him at first but the actor won me over, he did a great job and worked well with Rota and Hansis.

Very sad that Marco, was killed. Wash hoped he would pull throgh.. Enjoy him very much.

I wish he could of told who did this but I know there’s probably more to go around in these soaps.

I think they killed off the wrong person

Such is life. After all, the orange monster keeps on living.

What a lovely, classy message. I hope he goes onto more great acting adventures!

I love GENERAL HOSPITAL

RATINGS: ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Remain No #1 and # 2, ‘General Hospital’ Only Soap to Lose Viewers

Published

The latest Nielsen ratings data is out for the week of April 27-May 1, and three out of the four network daytime dramas posted gains in total viewers, while one showed a loss in audience numbers, which may come as a surprise.

Let’s take a look at the ratings period with data from Soap Opera Network and then provide some context. The Young and the Restless remained as per usual in the top spot coming in at 3,14,000 on average total viewers slightly up +20,000 more eyeballs for the week.

In story, Y&R served up Matt’s plot to blow up the Newmans inside the abandoned gas station on the outskirts of Vegas, Sienna believing she killed Matt, only for him to be revealed alive with a severe contusion on his head by week’s end, Nick going on a bad drug trip thanks to the fentanyl laced with something else via Matt, and Cane and the Winters family learning that he is a donor match to save Malcolm’s life, while Sally got engaged to Billy.

FASHION HOUSE PROBLEMS

Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful clocked in with 2,795,000 viewers for the week up +38,000 from the previous ratings period. In story, The Bold and the Beautiful gave viewers; the fallout from Katie’s successful fashion show for her new fashion house, Logan. Dylan continuing to be freaked out. This time when doing her work at Forrester Creations, out from the clothing rack comes somebody that scares her enough to have her let out a blood-curdling scream. In addition, Liam suggested to Hope that she consider coming to work for Logan where she will be appreciated, after Steffy tells her that ‘Hope for the Future’ is back-burnered for now.

General Hospital, which many have considered being the most entertaining on a consistent basis with their storylines, most likely lost some viewers for the week because on Monday April 27, the show was preempted for a special report on the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondence dinner. If viewers did not catch it on Hulu, it aired on the network after Nightline on Tuesday at 1am. In total, GH was the only soap to lose viewers for the ratings week. GH tallied -1,809,000 which is down from the previous week by -168,000.

PAYBACK AND A SHOCKING REVEAL

In story that week, Carly’s double life with Brennan and Valentin caught up with her, Michael initiated a strategic plot against Willow, and Josslyn found herself in immediate danger after a run-in with Cassius.

Beyond the Gates, while having two days of the week fully preempted for UEFA Champions League soccer games, actually increased its viewership. BTG tallied 1,655,00 total viewers which also boasted the highest audience gains across any soap adding +42,000. In story, the soap opera spotlighted: Ashley stealing antibiotics to keep Grayson alive, Smitty zeroing in on a possible suspect in the plasma ring, Vernon taking over Martin’s debt to Joey Armstrong, while Kate recognized a name tied to Lynette’s finances.

It should also be noted for the ratings week; The Bold and the Beautiful once again topped Y&R for the top spot in the key Womens 18-49 demo and in the Womens 25-54 demo, Beyond the Gates once again bested General Hospital for the 3rd spot.

*Nielsen ratings are based on the Live+Same Day Big Data+Panel model.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Would You Be Down With a Dante and Elizabeth Romance?

Published

on

By

On the Friday, May 15 episode of General Hospital, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) shared a heartfelt talk on trauma. Dante is so concerned for Rocco (Finn Carr), and how it affects someone for the rest of their life, which is something Elizabeth knows all too well, but got through it.

It all begins when Elizabeth shows up at Dante’s office ready for her date with Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst). How beautiful she looked did not go unnoticed by Dante. When the talked turned to how Dante told Rocco that he knew his son shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), he admits he is scared for his child, because he lost his innocence with the emotional baggage he now must carry forever of shooting someone.

Dante notices how Rocco is becoming more and more withdrawn and he wants to know how to help him. Elizabeth bring up how she can absolutely relate to trauma at a young age, just like Rocco. However for Elizabeth, her trauma came in the form of a brutal rape by Tom Baker. Speaking from experience, Elizabeth details that it was her friends and family like Lucky and Bobbie who helped pull her through. She encourages Dante to continue to show up and be there as support for his son.

SPECIAL DELIVERY

Next, an officer delivers to Dante the evidence from the pier shooting, which Dante plans on destroying. Before she leaves for her date with Ric, Liz reassured Dante he is doing the right thing to protect Rocco and she has done the same. She has left no record of Rocco’s hospital visit the night of the shooting. Liz leaves for her date.

THE WRONG SUSPECT

Then, Cullum storm troops in to Dante’s office demanding the evidence that the PCPD must have collected at the site of his shooting. Dante says that the evidence must be misfiled in the warehouse, but they will find it. However, Cullum realizes Dante is stalling and lying. Before heading to Dante’s office, Cullum paid a visit to Carly (Laura Wright) and saw a photo of Danny with Jason, triggering him to now believe that Danny may have been the person who shot him in the back on the pier!

DINING WITH RIC

At dinner at Café Cherie, Ric handed Elizabeth the folder with the priceless piece of artwork he’d purchased for her through Ava. Elizabeth loved it and went over to Ric and planted a kiss on him.

Will GH move Elizabeth into a romance with Dante? Do you think Liz and Dante make a cute couple? After today’s episode, it’s clear they very much like and admire one another. If so, what happens to Liz and Ric’s burgeoning repeat romance? Share your thoughts and picks via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante Tells Rocco He Knows He Shot Cullum and Will Protect Son

Published

on

By

In well-played scenes on the Thursday, May 14 episode of General Hospital, Dante (Dominic Zampogna) finally had a talk with his son, Rocco (Finn Carr) informing him that he knows the teen shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).

Rocco has dreaded his father finding out, because he is the acting police commissioner of the Port Charles PD and feared his dad will have to arrest him for the crime.

Dante asks Rocco in his own words to recount what happened the night on the pier. He assured his son, he is not going to arrest him and noted there are very extenuating circumstances surrounding the crime.

Courtesy/ABC

FATHER AND SON

Rocco explained how he followed Britt  (Kelly Thiebaud) to the pier. Then, how Cullum attacked Britt. Jason (Steve Burton) showed up and fought with Cullum and how the gun came loose. He remembers the other weapon Cullum pulled out to kill Jason and that’s when he shot him.

Next, Dante explained that he was proud of his son for saving Jason and Britt’s lives. He also tells Rocco that he is very concerned in Britt’s involvement in all of this stemming all the way back to the Five Poppies, and feels she is still tied into everything that is happening.

Dante tells Rocco that nobody else can know about this involvement in the shooting. He also touchingly said, that he is his father, he will protect him. However, Rocco is worried that if the truth came out that he shot Cullum, his dad would be in serious trouble for covering up a crime. Dante tells Rocco, he should not worry about that right now, but he needs to stay in Port Charles so he and his mom can keep him safe.

A SHOCKING CALL

Suddenly, as father and son hug it out, Dante gets a call from Justine (Nazneen Contractor), alerting him to the fact that she just met with Cullum and he is looking for the evidence and the file from his shooting. Dante rolls his eyes, knowing things are about to go from bad to worse, and how is he going to keep his son safe from the evil WSB Director?

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

Dominic Zamprogna always delivers a nice counterbalance to the often histrionics of other characters in Port Charles in his portrayal of Dante Falconeri. So that, when Dante breaks or gets emotional, it counts. Finn Carr has continually shined in the storyline as Rocco continues to teeter on the edge of knowing what he has done and being wracked with guilt. Next up has to be Danny learning his brother is the reason Jason was carted away. Stay tuned!

So, what did you think of the scenes between Dante and Rocco? How on earth will Dante keep Rocco safe? Share your thoughts via the comment section.
