‘General Hospital’ Alum Matt Cohen Joins the Cast of ‘The Young and the Restless’
In the “you’re not kidding” category, as teased, The Young and the Restless did indeed have more casting surprises up their sleeves! After revealing that Daytime Emmy winners, Roger Howarth (ex-OLTL, ATWT, GH) and Tamara Braun (ex-GH, AMC and DAYS) were joining the series, then former DAYS star, Lucas Adams, comes word that GH alum, Matt Cohen has also boarded the number one daytime drama series.
Cohen is coming on to a fill a void and creating a new character, detective Burrow. Matt will first be seen on-air on the upcoming October 16th episode of the top-rated soap opera. Matt began taping episodes last week on Y&R’s soundstages at Television City.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Matt arrives as the new detective in Genoa City who is already on a major case which centers around many of the core characters of the show who appear to be suspects.

In the casting of Cohen, it helps beef up the law enforcement in Genoa City after detective Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) was killed by Cane’s assistant, Carter (Vincent Stalba). In real-life, the exit paved the way for Conner Floyd to move on over to Days of our Lives to take on the role of Chad DiMera, vacated by Billy Flynn when he moved over to Y&R to play the recast Cane.
Soap fans remember Matt best from his role as Dr. Griffin Munro on ABC’s General Hospital, a part he played from 2016-2019. Cohen is also a fan favorite from the CW series Supernatural where he portrayed John Winchester and the archangel Michael.

More recently, Cohen had been an Daytime Emmy-winning entertainment correspondent and co-host on Entertainment Tonight from 2019-2023. In January of 2025, Cohen directed and had a starring role in the feature film, Exes, alongside Briana Buckmaster, Mark Sheppard, Felicia Day, and Ricky Whittle.
So, what do you think about Matt joining the ranks of the cast of The Young and the Restless? Excited to see him as GC’s newest detective? Comment below.
Yandr on a roll Will watch the writing .I wonder how many actors and actresses will be sacrificed due to all of these new hirings
My thoughts exactly. Adam and Chelsea aren’t utilized much and neither is Devon.
Devon can go Adam needs to stay write Claire off bring back Summer! Chelsea can go Get rid of Audra
Periods could really help you express your opinion better, Richard.
I agree. I read that Mark Grossman signed a contract through 2026? Short-term? I agree with Claire. She is getting on my last nerve! I hope Kyle dumps her, making room for Holden to deal with her drama/nonsense and Victor! Bring back Summer, who was right about her cousin.
Reunite Matt with Haley Erin
Matt’s character on GH was starting a relationship with Hailey Erin’s character, now they will be together on YnR.
Is this becoming GH 2
I’m not happy, (selfishly)with all these GH fave showing up on this show, maybe yr should rebrand and called themselves GH: young and restless.
It would bring viewers if they did… re-name it like you suggest.
Gh has taken Many from days and yandr the soap pool has gotten smaller ! Lucas adams was on days and Roger Howarth is noted for one life to live way over his stint on gh no show needs to be renamed
Goodness. Everyone’s moving there. Interesting.
The demos must be improving for CBS/Sony Television to dish out the casting funds.
So, I am thinking the case either involves Audra or Cane. They are the two most disliked people in Genoa City, besides Victor.
I think someone will try to snuff out Audra. Everyone’s threatening her.
It was such a mistake to kill of Chance, a legacy character and one of the only remnants of the Chancellor family remaining. If they were going to introduce a new detective, they should have recast the role. Matt Cohen would have been a suitable replacement for Conner Floyd, he looks the part and he’s a better actor IMO. Hopefully all these new characters will breathe some life into Y&R.
They’re trying to balance the male to female ratio. I mean Nicholas Newman can’t keep hooking up with a flurry of the same women over and over.

ABC Announces ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Texas Spin-Off Gets Straight-to-Series Order
In a surprise move, coming a week after ABC unveiled its 2026-2027 fall television schedule, Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff co-created by the original series’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
The new untitled medical drama will be written and executive produced by Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis under the Shondaland and 20th Television umbrella. In addition, long-running ‘Grey’s’ star Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an EP of the spinoff.
The upcoming new series will debut midseason in 2027. This will be the first of Grey’s franchise not set in urban city or West Coast locale. According to Deadline, the new “edgy drama is about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

In a statement, Marinis shared, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
A NEW GROUP OF DOCTORS IN RURAL TEXAS
The Texas spinoff will feature a a new group of doctors, but there will be some connection to the OG Grey’s Anatomy and possibly to Debbie Allen’s character of Catherine Fox. The amount of episodes in the series order has not yet been determined. Previous Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs were the defunct Station 19 and Private Practice.
Previously, Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its upcoming 23rd season while the amount of episodes is unclear. The last two seasons the series produced 18 episodes.
It should also be noted, Grey’s Anatomy and the Texas spinoff would likely share a time period, which requires limited-run orders for both with Grey’s premiering in the fall, followed by the spinoff on the midseason programming block.
So, what do you think about a Texas spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy coming in 2027? Who would you like to see from daytime or primetime as some of the featured roles as new doctors? Put on your casting directors hat and let us know via the comment section below.
