‘General Hospital’ to Pay Tribute to Anthony Geary Via ‘Loving Montage,’ Tristan Rogers’ Scorpio to Get ‘Proper Send Off’
In what has been a bit of tricky situation, ABC and General Hospital are planning to pay tribute to eight-time Daytime Emmy-winner, Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer) who passed away back on December 14, 2025 at the age of 78 with a ‘loving montage” according to Nathan Varni, ABC Current Programming Executive who overseas the long-running soap opera.
Over recent years, such as with the real-life deaths of Jackie Zeman (ex-Bobbie Spencer) and Leslie Charleson (ex-Monica Quartermaine), at the time of their passings, their characters were still alive on the GH canvas. In the case of Geary, Luke was killed off-screen in a cable car accident in Austria back in 2022. There was a memorial held in Port Charles for Luke back on January 21, 2022 after Tracy (Jane Elliot) returned to town, which also featured a videotaped message from Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) from beyond the grave, and the return of Jennifer Smith (Holly Gagnier).
On January 1, 2026 ABC promoted and aired a rebroadcast of Geary’s final full episode of Luke, that originally aired on July 27, 2015, but that proved problematic as some fans in certain markets did not see it, and it was not up on Hulu later in the day as usual with all-new episodes of GH. In addition, the soap aired a memorial title card at the end of a recent episode, acknowledging Geary’s death. (Pictured below are those that gathered for Luke’s on-screen memorial in 2022).

IN LOVING MEMORY TO TONY
In a series of tweets, Varni took to X and explained to fans of the plans to honor Geary moving forward. “Our team is working on a loving montage to be included later in the month, keep an eye out.” Then when a viewers questioned the executive stating, “I am happy you did an end of the episode dedication for Tony, but did you do one for Tristan? I don’t remember seeing one.”
Varni replied, “Since the character hasn’t passed away on screen, writers are working on a story to weave into the show later in 2026 for a proper send off.” As fans know it was a one-two punch in 2025 losing both Rogers to cancer back in August at the age of 79, followed by Geary in December. On GH, Luke and Robert were best buds, their antics, their adventures were a part of the 80s hey day of GH and their relationship continued on for decades on-screen.

PROPER SEND OFF FOR ROBERT SCORPIO
In a now touching and ironic twist, before Geary’s death, he shared a statement with TV Insider on the loss of Rogers, expressing, “I have great memories of him and always will. I’ve always thought Tristan was a good actor, a very giving actor, and fun to work with. Working with him was an experience that I could always rely on to be funny, exciting, challenging, and infuriating — a perfect day’s work.”
Viewers last saw Rogers on GH in a surprise appearance in an episode that aired in July 2025, when Jason (Steve Burton) flew Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) around the world to safety with her baby Daisy in tow to keep her safe from whoever (Willow) was gaslighting her. They wound up on the doorstep of Robert and Holly’s home. The scenes marked Tristan’s last on-screen appearance on General Hospital. Later, Rogers would show up on The Young and the Restless in his last appearance on network television in his other memorable soap role of Colin Atkinson on the August 26, 2025 episode of the CBS soap.
So, what do you think about how General Hospital is planning on honoring Tony Geary with a montage as its next step in tribute to him; especially given the characters of Port Charles already said goodbye to Luke when he died in 2022? Are you glad that the ABC/GH exec confirmed there is a send off coming later this year for Robert Scorpio to honor Tristan Rogers?
One thing that came to our minds for Tony and Tristan, was something that The Young and the Restless did very effectively when they honored their icon, the late Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) in a special episode, where the cast just sat around as themselves sharing memories in a special episode. Would that also interest you? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
GH needs to work in the death of Tristan Rogers/Robert Scorpio into storyline. Considering all the secret agent stuff that was part of the character’s world, I would think the character’s passing could launch a suspenseful mystery that affects Scorpio’s family, closest friends, and Port Charles.
As for Tony Geary/Luke Spencer, a simple episode that has Tracy, Laura, and others gathering in a favorite Port Charles spot on the occasion of his birthday or death anniversary would allow a touching tribute.
You would know that they are planning that If you read the post.
I absolutely think the cast should share their memories, of both Tony AND Tristan.
Yes to characters remembering both Robert and Luke. I like the idea.
The tribute to Anthony Geary was never shown in Champaign, IL on Jan. 1st as was promoted.
I think it’s a great idea to feature a tribute to Tony Geary. I would love to see montage featuring all the icon stories from Luke and Laura’s wedding, and more from the 80s, 90s and more. I also hope the Daytime Emmy’s will feature a special tribute to Tony Geary.
We’re still waiting for the promised show honoring Denise Alexander (Lesley).
That likely won’t happen until after Laura’s front-burner storyline wraps up.
The twist would be that Luke didn’t actually die in the Victor Cassadine commissioned ski lift accident was either held captive in some Cassadine dungeon and off camera, Robert, rescues Luke or Luke escape the ski lift alive was hiding (Tracey would not be happy that Luke didn’t let her know he was alive in that case) off camera, it will be said that Robert and Luke teamed up on a suicide mission which will take down or greatly cripple Sidwell and his partner and their plan and go out in a boys, glory heroes together.
Yes! I too would love something like this. I think one of the Cassadine men said after Luke was supposedly killed “now that Luke has been neutralized” or something to that effect…which in Soap speak usually means “not necessarily dead.” I’d love to revive him and he and Robert go out in a “blaze of glory”…not sure I like a “suicide mission” but some last valiant caper together that leads to them both going out…in true form. I’ve never liked that they just unceremoniously killed Luke off, off screen. But then, how else would they explain he and Tracy remaining apart, I guess.
Hulu did in fact make Luke’s final episode available! You had to change the season in order to view it.
Really? How?To what season?? …I’ll have to look, since it’s just one week today., before it goes away.
I think they should have cast members remembering Anthony and Tristan!
Yes I recall how Y&R honored Jeanne Cooper. Hope GH does that too with Tony and Tristin
What about the actress who played Lesly Laura’s mom
Anthony Geary saved GH so he deserves to be honored as do Tristian Rogers and the others who passed.. I say do everyone but make special time for Anthony. I like the idea of the cast just being themselves and talking about this past year of tremendous loss on GzH
They dropped the ball, they know it, now they’re back peddling!
Just how did they drop the ball?
Two incredibly charismatic actors who generated magic in their adventures together. They should produce a montage of Luke and Scorpio clips that would serve as a homage to both of them.
They should do it in a script on the show. Example….Laura emotionally thinking about Luke while on the dock…seagal sounds in background, the buoy bell sounds…her beautiful smile….then the montage. Trust me….it would be magic. Cloudy day, then at the end, the sun comes out….(something like that). Not that the actors sitting around paying homage wouldnt be nice “too”. It would. I just feel like the show needs to do more. His body confirmed, etc… Something. Again, Laura on dock…montage memories.

Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.
The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL
Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)
According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”
Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.
Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.
In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.
Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
