GENERAL HOSPITAL: Carly Accepts Sonny's Marriage Proposal! Should These Two Characters Get Married For a Fifth Time?

This week on Genera Hospital, Sonny (Maurice Benard) asked Carly (Laura Wright) to marry him … yet again!
After listening to Sonny’s sincere and sweet proposal, Carly took a moment before she gave the mobster her answer when she said: “We’ve been married four times and we couldn’t make it work.” To which Sonny replied: “The last one doesn’t count, because I tricked you.” Carly goes on to say: “The point is … maybe things are better the way they are.” But Sonny persists and says: “Why do we keep pretending that this isn’t for the long haul … for better or worse?”
Carly comments, “It can get so much worse!” Sonny comes back with, “But that’s when we shine. If you love somebody through the good times, that’s easy. You’ve loved me through the dark times, and I’ve loved you the same way. I know you’re going to love me no matter what … but I guess I’m old-fashioned.” Carly finally gives in and say, “I would love to be Mrs. Corinthos again.”
So this begs the questions: Should Sonny and Carly walk down the aisle yet again? Do you think the story would be more interesting having them married overcoming issues and problems? This storyline keeps repeating itself, right, Patrick? It is time these two misfits grow up……how dare they try to raise this beautiful, innocent baby! They can’t even keep themselves in check. Another messed up, little life. Yes, Avery belongs with her mother. but, will she be better off with another misfit? However, Ava is her mother and she does love her baby. I am between a rock and a hard place with this entire situation. If this were real life, I would really worry about this kid’s emotional stability.
I have missed all their previous marriages. What will be different about this one? Have they learned anything? It seems to me that when Sonny and Carly love, they REALLY love, but when they hate, they REALLY hurt each other every-which-way. ” it was one thing to make a mistake; it was another thing to keep making it” Jodi Picoult.
And, Patrick…I am still trying to figure out Su’s fascination with Sonny and his ilk (the mob). He is a worm, not a man in the true sense of the word. It is understandable and a given that “all men make mistakes, but a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong, and repairs the evil.” Sophocles. Sorry, Sophy….some idiots do not know that there is a guiding light in their path…it’s just a matter of finding it. Sonny only worries about women and who to stick it to next. Sorry about the pun, Patrick. I do not mean that the way it sound. I mean, stab someone in the back. This man has no honor….something by which real men live and to which they adhere.
My main focus was on Avery…I mostly drown Carly and Sonny out. The baby is out-of-this-world cute. She is sooo sociable. I do like how at ease and comfortable she is with Laura and Maurice. One can tell both of the actors are around children and interact well with them. That is a definite plus, in my book.
The last thing this tanking show needs is more gangsters. The mob is killing ratings! So, let’s really let Sonny mellow out and find a new direction in life!

But hark! The SUOOSter is wrong. There are two mob families–the whole Jerome family (a new family which we are supposed to embrace) are mobsters. Yes, Jullian tells Alexis he is out, but he’s not even out enough to be pulled back in. Sonny is still the Kingpin of Port Charles, and continues to break the law with his “coffee import business (wink, wink, cough cough).
And the whole redundancy of Scotty trying to “get” Sonny is as tedious and redundantly boring as Carly and Sonny getting married for the millionth time.
When Scotty was telling Jordan that he is going to “get Corinthos” just harked back to Taggert in the 90’s saying the same thing to his chief of police. It’s tired writing and we know no one will ever get Sonny–he’s the Road Runner of Port Charles.
And the whole Denise mess has got to end. The East New Jersey accent is as fake as that ugly stupid wig. Even her brother doesn’t know it’s really Ava?
And here we are on day three of little Jake’s return and there has been nary a word mentioned to anyone about it.

Carly isnt shown even being a mother to her bad seed daughter Josslyn yet she is sooooo ready to be mommy to Ava’s daughter is absolutely ridiculous…Denmess/Ava should win worse costume award and worse acting at next years emmys…i was a Maura West fan but this is an absolute embaressment and its time to write out this overplayed character!!! Back in the 80s there was a few silly plots like the freezing of Port Charles and Casey The Alien but they look like Shakespear compared to the constant silly campiness of todays GH! At least back then the stories were character driven and well written with more realistic plots mixed in with those campy plots you could easily overlook…its time GH stops hoarding actors and clean up its messy storylines!!!

I really think Sonny and Carly makes the most sense of anything on this show. Sonny and Carly belong together. Maurice and Laura have so much chemistry, they really shine together on screen.
I agree with you completely! Sonny and Carly together through whatever life throws at them is what I want to see. I hope this story is Ava’s swan song. Love Maura but I feel Ava’s time is almost up…
Sonny and Carly are combustible together. I am glad someone sees the sunny-side to this worn-out reunion. I am not well-versed in GH lingo, but, from my reading the back stories, the same was said about Sonny and Brenda. There is no way on earth, in my opinion, that these two destructive beings are good for each other, or for the people closest to them. They are like an incurable malady….a cancer who infect everyone in their path.
As su says, perhaps in his old age, Sonny will see life as a journey of giving and living by a moral, judicious and law-abiding code; and not as a privilege to take everything and leave everyone behind, regardless who gets hurt.
Look at what their polluted life created…..children without a true sense of self. Michael is , at least, recognizing the infestation attached to Sonny’s name and is treading easily, but Morgan? Wow, he really is screwed up….like father like son. Where is Christina? And, how many more seeds has Sonny sown of which we are not aware. Lord help Joss and Avery.
In all honesty I want to see them make it this time. They’ve given up in the past & it would be nice to see them actually fight to make it work this time. To see them work together in love & overcome outside obstacles would be new for them. To simply have them marry & break up again is tired & boring. They have a rich history with each other & quite frankly the dialogue this week has been swoon worthy.
So yeah let’s try something new with them-
– A wedding with guests & their kids filled with romance& not violence
– A couple who loves each other enough to work together & overcome obstacles without cheating on each other & bailing
– A couple that actually makes it even though it gets difficult
And hey I wouldn’t mind if Avery was Morgan’s & they made a new baby girl to love
In short something new & different for this couple would be for them to actually make it
Day three of boring, rehashed, awful couples. Ron can’t do romance. Where’s Jake? The cast is so huge it’s like we have A stories and B stories and then dreadful C and D stories.
Ron can’t do romance? How do you explain Morgan and Ava? Morgan and Denise? Morgan and Kiki? Ric and Donna Mills? Franco and Nina? Sparkle Pony and Michael? Lizzy and Jake 2? Valerie and Dante?

None of the couple’s you mention fall into the ‘romance’ category…..Romance is true and fresh. Passionate, yes, but, with breathless hesitation. Some of these people are animals with no sense of good and bad.

I’ve enjoyed CarSon in the past but to say I’m not feeling them this time around would be an understatement. I feel like GH is toting them as their moral center and default supercouple. I don’t feel anything for this pairing at all.
Finally, some one who doesn’t feel anything for these two. I’ve never been a Sonny fan, and even though I used to love Laura Wright’s Carly, I can no longer stand her now that she’s hooked up with Sonny.
So, if they must be together, marry them off and send them on a 1-year honeymoon so I can give my FF button a rest!

GH needs to clean house and stop hoarding actors…there is about a dozen who should be dropped…too many characters and draggy storylines stagnate GH and thats why ratings are down!!!
agree!!! Too many characters are dragging out the mediocre story lines. I loved when you had your main stories with a few sub stories. I actually feel bad for some of the actors and their stories; they have to be thinking “what the heck is this about?”

I so loved their scenes and the proposal was even more than I had hoped it would be. I loved how Sonny’s voice cracks as he relays his heartfelt love by saying …”I wanna love you for the rest of my life , I want you to be my wife.” After that I was just a puddle on the floor lol .At present their love is strong and they have such a great bond which the hands of time seems to of made stronger through the years , I have no doubt together these two can over come anything. I am awaiting to see what this wedding does bring and if the sl bonds these two into a even stronger married couple

Please, no! Laura and Maurice’s chemistry is strictly friendship, only. Laura’s Carly had the best connection with Ingo’s Jax, who Carly ultimately belonged with. And while Roger’s Todd would’ve also made a good match, they cannot happen. I’d rather see Carly single for a lengthy period of time, then end up with Julian Jerome (William deFry) or Kyle Sloane (Grayson McCouch) than with Sonny Corinthos.

I wish I had had a taste of Jax’s and Carly’s interaction, Ghlover. I saw them together last year when he came to ‘visit’ Port Charles. I did enjoy seeing them together. He poses quite a figure…well, taller than she. They certainly did not look mismatched as Carly and Sonny. She dwarfs him. I believe you when you say Jax and Carly are the real soul-mates.
Not sure if I think Carly and Jax were an obvious choice, but he really brought out the best in her…something Sonny definitely doesn’t do. Plus, Carly wouldn’t own the Metro Court if it wasn’t for Jax. Wish they could have stayed together but she still has to sabotage their relationship with Sonny. Currently I really can’t see anyone for Carly other than Sonny, and Sonny for the wrong reasons. And definitely not Rick.
I’m thrilled Sonny and Carly are getting married again. They were one of the most exciting couples on GH, especially when they were married. Their being together as a family, having to be protected from Sonny’s enemies, always having something going on in their lives while trying to live a normal family life made them one of the best soap couples to watch.
They’ve proved themselves over and over again as the couple who are there for each other, no matter what. They belong on GH , especially now. GH needs them. GH looks like GH with them there. If only they’d get a real story about THEM instead of having them just talking about others.
Sonny needs to get his mobster back. Max has to come back and I just can’t wait to see Sonny tell Max that he and “Mrs. C” are getting married again. A little S&C music would be great too and then just maybe GH can get a little of it’s GH back.

Truthfully, I think the recent ratings slide all has to do with the murderer getting off lightly. Viewers waited for years for him to pay. Finally bad behavior would punished. When he walked away relatively scott free, it told the viewers, Sonny would never pay and the viewers realized this show would never have the good guys win. Look at Ava. Viewers finally had enough. Unfortunately, the character of Sonny may have been written into a corner that he can never recover. It’s not the actors fault, but the writers who crossed the line and now cannot come back. So sad as I used to like Sonny, too.

Sonny is walking poster child for gun control. Let’s see–he shot Dante before he knew he was his son. He shot Carly in the head while she was giving birth to Morgan (which could explain Morgan’s stupidity) and he shot AJ dead when he erroneously believed AJ had killed Connie despite all the signs that he had not. He’s a dumb thug with a gun.

They’re terrible for each other. Carly is the consummate enabler who constantly tells Sonny he is a good father despite all evidence signifying otherwise. In turn, Sonny stifles Carly forcing her to make it all about him and she becomes his accessory.
The only man who brought out the best in Carly and who loved and appreciated her for who she is was Jax.

Anyone who is part of a gang is considered a member of organized crime. What do you think mobster means? Basically, the same thing…..part of a ‘mob’, in this case, organized crime.
I really do not understand what makes you an expert differentiating a mobster from a gangster. He is one and the same by a different name. I think we discussed this very subject months ago. It does feel like déjà-vu. And, I believe I told you, you would be singing a different tune if you actually knew on of these crocodilians in real life. LOL
Frankly, it disgusts me to see Sonny happy. He has yet to feel true remorse for what he did. He should be on his knees begging forgiveness from both Michael and Monica. Instead, he walks around as if did nothing wrong. And that is why I can no longer watch him on screen. It disgusts me to see him living his life without it having any impact on him or the people around him. His murder should have been the catalyst to get him out of the mob and to leave that life. But no, he only left so he could get his dumb daughter back. I hate, hate, hate Sonny with a passion now. And I used to like him. So sad.

YES! I’ve been waiting years for this! So happy Sonny put a ring on it and that Carly is going to be his wife again! Sonny asking Carly to marry him with baby Avery with them was my fav scenes this week. Mo and Laura shine together on screen and I’m so happy after years of waiting S&C are finally a couple again.
IMO, of all the many “loves of his life” , including Brenda and Connie ( most of us are just blessed to have one), Carly has been the most loyal to Sonny and has proven herself to him over and over again- she gets him. Sonny has always respected Carly because of her loyalty, and he gets her. They are kindred spirits- both damaged goods who love each other for the good,bad and the ugly. Carly who has her own violent tendencies,realizes the men she truly loves have a dark side,propensity for violence, or or connected to all that vis a vis family e.g. Jax and Jerry. Back in the day even the good doctor Tony Jones went off the deep end for a while.
My main concern is for the children and especially little Avery. Sonny solemnly swears to protect his new daughter and keep her safe from harm, and today we heard gunfire,then Max brought in nu associate guy with fresh, bloody bullet wound received from the drive by just outside the house… the house where Avery lives. At least “Joss” , who must be out in the corn fields becoming one with the corn,is still safe for the time being.
If Sonny and Carly remarry, I think Sonny can afford to and should build a cloistered compound with state of the art technology to protect Avery in Port Chuckles (if he must live there). I’m sure there is another Spoon Island property with a Wyndemere type dwelling, just waiting for the taking.

YES YES YES YES!!! Sonny and Carly fans have suffered for years with our couple being apart and with other pairings that didn’t work out and was not worthy of them! The CarSon fanbase is a Ride or Die Squad and we will forever love and support them no matter what! I LOVE that TPTB at GH are finally putting Sonny and Carly back together where they belong! They are Soulmates and Maurice and Laura have AMAZING Chemistry together. So YES S&C should get married and the 5th time will be the Charm <3 They have both grown as they gotten older and have learned from their mistakes. Carly is the only woman who can truly handle Sonny's lifestyle and today's show (7/17/15) proved that with the way she went to work with helping the guard Max brought in that was shot. She is a Boss Ride or Die Chick and that's exactly what Sonny needs! TPTB really need to give CarSon more airtime and more romance (love scenes) they are a HOT couple that is barely getting scenes and the ones they do get are not long but that doesn't matter because Maurice and Laura KILL it every time with the little time that they do get! Instead of using them and giving them more romance (love scenes) we get couples that are of no use like Morgan and AvaDenise and Ric and Madeline. I can Rrrrrrealy do without their make out sessions and instead give CarSon a real love scene since we haven't had one since before Sonny was sent to Pentonville because we didn't get one on Valentines Day when they had their reunion. Sonny and Carly are a Super Couple that needs to be used more!! Maurice and Laura bring the heat, passion, drama they bring it all because they are Amazing Actors that feed off each other and have the chemistry to back it up! We CarSon fans have waited years for this reunion and it's finally here and hopefully TPTB at GH will keep them together and capitalize on that awesomeness that is Maurice and Laura!!
AMEN. SOnny and Carly hAve what t takes. The problem is that this writer either didn’t want them and or didn’t know how to write for them. It also didn’t help that he fired most of the GH writers when he came to GH . Now that they’ve decided to put them back where they belong they need to give them the same kind of story that made them a super couple. A story of their own. About THEM. Not just use them for other stories. S And C fans are just waiting to be able to see their adventures again.
The show really did fans a disservice by NOT even considering keeping them up.front and center. A lot of time has been wasted. Hopefully they can get something better going with S And C
Remember when Sonny threatened to murder Carly a couple years ago??? Thats a turn on for her apparently and a Sonny style soulmate!! Someone he can bully and threaten and scream at and treat like garbage. And Carly laps it up like a kitten with a fresh saucer of milk!

I think they should only get married if the writers plan to do something different and make it work,, show what a true marriage could be, le them have a big wedding too! That makes for great soap!
Finally, someone who speaks what I am thinking. If this marriage is to take place, Toya, then by all means….but, the writers should give them a smooth ride. No killings, no lies, no betrayals. Agreed.
They are my favorite part of GH. I hope they actually get to go through with the wedding, and actually make it this time. I love how they are more accepting of each other this go around.,I also like their family scenes as well.

Well since I wasn’t watching when the other four marriages happened this will my first time– blush blush— Okay, seriously, after four attempts, they should just live together, but they have to have a wedding so someone can crash it to stop it— of course this will also put Carly in Ava’s vengeful path because there is no way she is going to let Carly be mommy to her baby girl.
So for me it is hard to invest in the romance of this, when I know this is just a plot point to set up another plot point–it really doesn’t have anything to do with the characters at all.
Do we want to start a pool to bet whether whether the wedding will ever take place or if it does how long it will last? If we are, put me down for August wedding– September Carly in danger– Sonny sleeps with Ava in Oct– and marriage is over by November.

YES!!!! Sonny and Carly fans (myself included) has waited YEARS for this couple to reunite. We’ve been teased and played with for years. Since Laura’s debut actually so it’s been a long time coming. I stopped watching GH for a few years and glad I did. I didn’t have to sit through the Johnny/Todd/Franco Connie/Kate/Connie/Kate/who the frank cares/Olivia mess!! Started watching again when Sonny shot AJ and all 3 Carly actresses shared the flashback episode. Wedding number 5 needs to be a big one since they’ve never had one and they need to stay married. Too many divorces anymore and ya I get it it’s drama but come on the writers can’t think of any other kind of drama other than an affair or divorce!!! Couples face things together all the time and come out of it stronger. Why can’t any soap honor that? There does seem to be WAY too many storylines going on that we sometimes go weeks without any good Carson scenes or other favorites we may have. This week is the first of Alexis and Julian I’ve seen in months! Some stories seem rushed so they can get to others that are dragging out for a year! I’ve read it from many many other GH fans someone should listen. TOO MANY CHARACTERS/STORYLINES!! Actors with amazing talent aren’t getting the time to give us their full potential. So so glad Carly and Sonny are back together but GH isn’t what it used to be……

I’m Ho-Hum about Sonny and Carly getting married again. Carly said it for me in describing Sonny…arrogant, etc., and any woman choosing this kind of guy again and again should have social services come and gave a talk with her about her kids safety. We’ve already seen how protected Michael and Morgan were. Or fly in Jax since he’s Joselyn’s father. And now there’s baby Avery. Michael could have kept her, and just give visiting rights to Sonny. Anyhow, I figure it’s just a plot vehicle to get us into the next RC story. Probably it will include Brad’s family, and Ava as Ava.
Alexis seems to have the bad-boy attraction as well. Be interesting to see how Julian rationalizes being pulled back into the crime world…and he will. Couldn’t help thinking about the gag factor Cee Cee and Shay must have been going through with the latest Alexis/Julian tête-à-tête at the Metro Court. :))
And Su…it doesn’t matter who pulls the trigger or gives the order…a killer is a killer. If anything Sonny wants to keep his hands clean, and is a coward in my eyes if he does’t pull the trigger. And as far as his loyalty mantra…he let Shawn take the rap for him. Boy he’s come a long way from being an “exotic” dance club owner exploiting women to being a “coffee merchant.” Just my kind of “special” guy.

Cee Cee, Shay, Nancy, Rebecca, even Harry and anyone else…We’ve all had our comments on love and sex is shown and written on GH and other soaps with reactions from “love it” to “ugh” to indifference. Here’s a wonderful take on this subject that was the theme on CBS Sunday Morning, July 26. Highly recommend going into the CBS site and checking it out. Ah, you know me—actually, CeeCee and ME—too well, Rose! Yes, I was absolutely appalled by the ludicrous sex games in which Alexis and Julian engaged the other day, and I stated so on the previous thread. It really is quite unbecoming watching Ms. Davis always so ready, eager and willing to get her freak on!!!! And it is about so much more than just her age….she is simply becoming a real joke because of her raunchy, randy nature, not to mention that personally, I would like to see some of the unwarranted. repetitive physical activity accorded this tiresome tarted-up woman spread around to some of the other mature ladies….Dr. O. deserves a romance and so does Donna Mills…just not with her poor excuse for a son-in-law!!! Perhaps she should link up with Paul Hornsby? I know that he is Tracy’s ex, but they really do not look like they belong together….he needs a more feminine type. Perhaps he could even take up with Anna when she returns? (And it won’t be a moment too soon when she does….how I miss her!) As for Harry’s suggestion that ballroom dancing might be the answer for Alexis and Julian? Baaaad choice….toooo much close physical proximity….we already know where that will lead. They need to do something that requires distance and the use of both hands to keep themselves away from one another, like maybe rug weaving or whittling, for example!!!! (Then again, there’s always that knitting that CeeCee humorously suggested awhile back…for which she was repeatedly excoriated! LOL…..)
It’s not that I’m against sex at any age. But there’s more to life and relationships at any age. If not knitting, real conversation, a walk in the park, even a R&R concert could help them let off some steam. Plus, I really don’t like about how they’ve taken some stronger female characters like Alexis and Diane, who at one time were very good lawyers before their badboy weaknesses set in. Or Monica a great surgeon and Chief Of Staff at GH before they put in Dr O, who I love as a character by the way. Or Connie as publisher of a high fashion magazine. On the other hand the writers dragged her down with Sonny and she stole Molly’s book. But still she did more than eat at Kelly’s or order room service at the Metro Court Even Robin when she was on the show (don’t bring back Kimberly, recast) was a great example, at least as a doctor/researcher. Can’t say much about wife and mother…on the other hand, as much as I love Anna and Robert, not good role models as parents. And they aren’t doing much with the up and coming next generation of GH…including the guys. Except maybe Michael and Sabrina…I know touchy with you, Harry and Jimh. 🙂

With Alexis, there is simply this sick pattern of engaging in umpteen reckless flings with practically every shady character known to darken Port Charles’ doorstep. Also, Diane and Max had a fun—yet mature and rather realistic—relationship. Alexis has anything but….between the way she acts and dresses she comes off as a desperate hussy always looking for a man, and while it is laughable, there is truly nothing funny about it anymore. As for the other women you mentioned, they’ve all been ruined in one way or another by the current regime….none of them acts honorably, which is a real shame. Each one needs to regain her reputation, although once lost, it’s almost impossible to get back. At the moment, there seems to be a full court press for Tracy to recover her dignity, yet I have a feeling Paul Hornsby will be putting the kibosh on that, not to mention the fact that sticking Ms. Quartermaine with Sappy as her extremely unbelievable new bestie has done precious little to restore her image as a fierce and fabulous femme to be reckoned with. I agree with much of what you said..perhaps stronger. While I think Sonny and Carly are a great match, if I could block out all the evil they’ve inflicted on various people, or just started watching the show and wasn’t aware of any of it, I’d love them together. Some of their scenes are some of the coziest, most domestic on the show. However, I abhor that they’re happy! I’ve allowed myself to get suckered back into Sonny’s world repeatedly…always detesting what he did to AJ. But killing him, and not only getting away with it but having Carly AND his baby back is infuriating. I still hold out hope that Michael will forever resent Sonny…their relationship forever tarnished.
As for Alexis, she’s had a ‘bad boy” attraction for some time, starting with Sonny, moving along to Rick, Sean, Jerry and Julian. But how many women on GH don’t have the same. Diane, Carly, Sam, Elizabeth, Dr. O, Anna, Tracy…even Emily fell for Sonny! As for Alexis and Julian’s attraction, I think the uncomfortable part is how they portray this couple’s attraction, not that they’re so incredibly attracted to eac other. They’re the only couple that we’ve seen “play games”…or come on really jphot for each other. While I think it’s perfectly realistic and not demeaning or negating Alexis as the highly intelligent, witty, snarky woman she is…I’d rather see them romantically enthralled, or shown in a more sensual way like Patrick a spud Dam waking up together…Nathan and Maxie showering together. How Alexis “acts” when sexual is perfectly appropriate for her or anyone of any age (and this comment is not directed at you, Rose) because couples in love..or even couples just hooking up…are sexual beings. Period. The question is, how comfortable is it for the audience…and is it a “romance” that we buy. It’s not working for me for two reasons..we don’t see Alexis and Julian just enjoying each other as people…and for some reason Nancy doesn’t seem comfortable in the full out scenes. Just a ” vibe” I get. But I do know from interviews she’s done that she’s happy that she, Anna, Tracy…are being given romabpntic/sexual material instead of just focusing on younger couples. Which, obviously is great, being much more realistic and representative of all.
I do like Sabrina and Michael; they both have hearts of gold…
Now would be a good time to bring back Connie,it would bring conflict to Sonny and Carly’s relationship,and would eliminate the murder charges against Ava.Kelly Sullivan is now on Y&R,but Jessica Collins might be a good recast,plus she’s about the same age as Megan Ward,the original Kate/Connie.

It was already a huge stretch that this preposterous “romance” was predicated upon a single tawdry teenaged backseat episode of two anonymous strangers that ultimately just happened to result in an unwed pregnancy. To make it even more ridiculous, we’re supposed to buy into the notion that these so-called adults suddenly found love with one another practically the moment after discovering that they were the parties involved in this ancient escapade? Oh, spare me. Whilst I can completely understand the childless Julian accepting the daughter (and later, son) he never knew he had, it was simply too convenient the way he and Alexis were almost immediately shoved together. Add to that their redundant, unabated passion and the whole thing has become one big joke! I swear every time we get another nauseating sex scene with these two, I think they can’t be any more vulgar or base, but then they outdo themselves. I can totally believe that NLG revels in this embarrassing farce, because she looks positively giddy and pleased as punch whenever she gets the chance to be down and dirty with Julian, but I’ve always gotten the feeling that WdV is just being a consummate (no pun intended….) professional and doing the job at hand, no matter how ludicrous and demeaning it proves to be.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced the full list of nominees for the upcoming 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, and it was CBS daytime’s The Young and the Restless and broadcast television newest soap opera, Beyond the Gates that racked up the most nominations with 18 and 16, respectively.
The full reveal on Tuesday follows the announcement of several major categories including Lead Actor and Actress on Monday via Extra and Entertainment Tonight and The View today revealing Daytime Drama Series and more.
The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmys ceremony is set to take place on Friday, October 30 at the historic Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’
The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16
General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
