GENERAL HOSPITAL: Carnage At Crichton-Clark! Samtrick! Thaao Penghlis Performance!

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

Yesterday’s episode of General Hospital offered, a thrill-a-minute behind every locked and buzzing door, at the compound that is the Crichton-Clark Clinic!  It was action-packed and brought the promise of new romance, danger, a walking Jason, new secrets, and lots of bullets!  It was as if an episode of Batman had come to the soaps!

Nathan (Ryan Paevey), our hero, and Maxie (Kirsten Storms) had their major first kiss cementing them as a couple to root for! He even taught his new girlfriend how to shoot a gun, after the duo seemingly rid the world of Peter Harrell, and Peter Harrell Jr. (Zachary Garred).

Moving over to Lulu (Emme Rylan) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) – way to go Lante! Didn’t you love the fight scenes with Lulu and the bitchy nurse and Stavros (Robert Kelker-Kelly) and Dante, where for once, Lulu and Dante came out victorious?  Stavros looks to be finally “dead” on the ground after expounding, in his Shakespearing tones, his demented desire to have Lulu have his child via that embryo!

Meanwhile, Jason is on the loose!  How do we know?  That black t-shirt!  Looking much smaller in girth than Steve Burton, this stand-in, unfrozen, brought-back-to-life Jason, who for now remains faceless (Billy Miller to fill in that face), seems to have the smarts and the “killer instincts” to attack, dismantle, and wander the facility!  And who does he stumble upon? Robin (Kimberly McCullough)! Remember when we last saw her, we didn’t know where Victor (Thaao Penghlis) and his goons took her!  Robin sees that it is Jason, who can’t talk yet (Billy Miller to fill in voice), and he shoots her handcuffs attached to the railing and frees her!

But back in Port Charles, the moment finally arrives after flirting and flirting!  Patrick (Jason Thompson) plants a kiss on Sam (Kelly Monaco)! They start to make-out and Sam puts on the brakes.  She does tell Patrick she has wanted to kiss him for awhile now, too.  However, she isn’t sure where their lives are heading right now as it’s all so complicated, with Patrick’s divorce from Robin, and the anniversary of Jason’s death and his birthday coming up!  The two seemingly put a pin it and hold for now on their romance, and have decided that they will go back to being sleuths trying to uncover the truth of who was responsible for running Patrick, Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) and Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) off the road that ultimately led to the death of baby Gabriel.  Will they be able to fight their feelings?

Back at Crichton-Clark, the shocker came when none other than Liesl (Kathleen Gati) was holding at gunpoint Anna (Finola Hughes) with Victor standing there!  As we have just learned, Victor is not the bio-dad of Nathan as all had thought!  Liesl does not shoot her nemesis Anna, but instead shoots Victor!  Anna is stunned.  Liesl said she had to do it!  When Anna goes to find the others, Liesl says her goodbyes to Victor, who is bleeding out on the floor, but he has a pulse!  Next thing you know, Liesl admits if only two people have a secret, one must die, and she wants to snuff out Victor’s life with a pillow!  She utters that Nathan can never know who his real father is!  Which begs the question, than who the hell is Nathan’s real father?  As Liesl goes to kill Victor, he pulls a device out of his suit jacket which sets off alarms throughout Crichton-Clark!  Victor says if he is going to go, then everyone is going down with him!

In the final moment of the episode, Anna, while searching through the hallways of Crichton-Clark, uses a security card to open a door and on the other side of it is Robin trying to also get out of said room!  Will mother and daughter finally comes face-to-face?

Kudos go must go in this episode to Thaao Penghlis who was riveting as Victor, the ringleader and villain in this story arc.  The scenes where Victor is lying on the floor on his seemingly “last” breaths reminded us all what a fantastic actor he is!

If Victor is truly dead I will miss him! He was a truly fascinating villain? As for Starvros will not miss him at all. He is a little over the top. Can’t wait for Nilly to take over as Jason?

Max
Max

Going to Miss Victor. I want him back on GH or a return from the dead for Tony Dimera. Was so enjoying him on the show.

CeeCee
CeeCee

I like Victor too. I wish TPTB would have brought him back as a good guy, having turned a new leaf, and have made him live. It would have been great if a storyline were created exploring a romantic relationship between himself and Liesl….sigh!

Mary Lynn
Mary Lynn

You are assuming that Victor is actually dead.

Shay
Shay

Amen, Max! I love, love, love Victor! I truly hope he isn’t down for the count, as he’s far too colorful and valuable a villain to be dead! And CeeCee, I totally agree about his pairing with Liesl…they were such an intriguing couple, and I wanted to know their backstory….I am feeling VERY cheated!!!! (Then again, you have to hand it to Mutter….what a warm and fuzzy woman willing to kill to protect her baby boy….LOL!)

Timmm
Timmm

Yes, Victor should have been head of the WSB but a good guy.

CeeCee
CeeCee

Good deduction, Timmm. I concur with you and rebecca. It stands to reason that Jason was disfigured. But, how did Robin escape injury? Or did she?

Mary Lynn
Mary Lynn

Absolutely not!!! Victor Cassadine as a good guy would be a complete bore.

Jimmy

I loved Victor, he is a great villain. And I love Stavros too, but this time he did seem to be way over the top insane and it took away from the story a bit. But both Thaao Penghlis and Robert Kelker-Kelly are great actors and I loved the scenes they shared!

Philip Brooks
Philip Brooks

COnsidering all the things that happened to him, how else would you expect Stavros to be???

CeeCee
CeeCee

So right, Jimmy. I got a kick out of Victor’s and Stavros’s scenes also. Especially one particular scene in Victor’s office, where Stavros shows his impatience about ‘making’ Lulu the mother of his child. Victor’s response was such as to rebuke and chide a recalcitrant child. And, if I were to describe Stavros, at this time, I would say he was acting like the spoiled brat jimh raised…lol…you know I luv-ya, jimh.

Jenny Brooks

I will miss him too! He and Liesl had great potential, and I thought it would have been brilliant to make Nathan his son. I’d much rather have Victor running amok than Helena!

Michael

It looks like Jason won’t be recognized by anyone but Robin since every picture of him is still Steve Burton’s.

jimh(leave it to beaver)
jimh(leave it to beaver)

Jason will show up in PC and all including Sam wont believe who he is because of his new face…Robin could confirm who he is unless shes captured for the 100th time!!!…lol

rebecca1
rebecca1

THAT is a good point! How did she recognize him? Are we to assume she knew Victor tampered with his face…or are we to believe people will recognize him…(just as if another actor stepped into the character but looks the same in make-believe land….like when we have a temporary actor playing a role…)

Or, maybe we’ve all been wrong. There are several possibilities:

A) Victor doesn’t die. Which I would love. I think he’s a great villain…I’d love to see him interact with Nicolas and Spencer…still lots of possibilities crazy stories to unfold between him and Dr. O, perhaps even Faison, lots of chaos for him to create. I had thought he would program Jason and use him as a henchman of some sort…all the while Jason going unrecognized by anyone in Port Charles.

B) IF Victor is really dead, then maybe that plan is dead in the water (pun intended!) and maybe we’ll have the old Jason Q back in the family fold and everyone will recognize him.

All the while we’ll have Silas and Patrick wondering…”What happened to my relationship with Sam? ” 😉

CeeCee
CeeCee

It was the T-shirt, you guys! Lol…everyone will recognize him by the infamous Jasonite- black T-shirt. Lol 2-ice.
BTW…..next time Helena comes back to life? There won’t be much more skin left to stretch on her face.
Jimh…I think they should all be blown to bits and for GH to start fresh…kidding..lol again.

Timmm
Timmm

I think Robin sees Steve Burton’s Jason now. We dont. Victor pushed that panic button and I think Jason is disfigured when that bomb goes off and he wakes up at GH with bandages on his face and there you have Billy Miller as Jason. Wala!

I think you’re right!

I am actually loving this story! Won’t say anything since the west coast hasn’t seen it yet but I loved today’s episode…even more than yesterdays. Fun and seems (sorta) like ol’ times….

CeeCee
CeeCee

Yes, rebecca…that’s an excellent point…Ah, destiny, indeed. What goes around, comes around. This time, Jason Morgan will come out of this ‘accident’ as Jason Quartermaine… Could this be the reason for the explosion at the clinic? Lucy mentioned a different personality…..so, Jason will be reborn, per say, or more to the point, he will revert to his original being. Yes?

Nancy

Never have seen such a completely entertaining show.

Loving Every minute of GH!!! 🙂 WOW!!

jimh(leave it to beaver)
jimh(leave it to beaver)

I actually felt entertained the whole hour…finally, Tracy appeared and showed geniune concerned for Lulu but how about Bobbi and Lucas…arent they concerned too…Lucas shouldve asked Julian for help to find Lulu but would he?…no Robert or Frisco but at least Duke should be in some scenes, and i still think Nathan is Victors or will he be flukes son?…and isnt real Luke in there or did Heather find him somehow and manage to escape with him?…Meanwhile, as much as i liked the episode, i think the campy scifi storylines are getting to me: when Hands Morgan was shown attempting to break from the restraints all i kept thinking of’…is this a scene with Micheal Meyers from one of those Halloween movies?’ and creapy Stravos would make a good spooky clown like the one from ‘IT’…i did expect him to tell Lulu: ‘We ALL float down here!’…lol…if GH continues with the scifi stuff why not rename the show ‘Dr. Who’s Hospital?’…lol

Lucy D.
Lucy D.

The last 2 episodes have been riveting. I gasped out loud yesterday when Liesl shot Victor. Love the feisty Lulu/Dante duo and OMG on Maxie & Nathan.

I am curious 1) how Jason will get a new face. 2) will Jason be a different personality (though Sonny kept talking about how much he misses him) 3) what will they do with Robin.

Surprised they put the brakes on Sam & Patrick so quickly. I for one am not longing for a Sam/Jason reunion.

Who can Nathan’s father be?

Mary SF
Mary SF

My guess— the Clinic will blow up and Jason will get disfigured in the explosion, and he will need plastic surgery and viola– new face. As for personality, perhaps he will be different– seems Stravos was more wacky after being thawed– or maybe the drug Robin invented will have side effects. As for Sam and Patrick I thought Sam was being responsible by slowing things down at bit– and for Robin, perhaps she will go missing after the Clinic blows up, so once again we are left to wonder is she dead, or does another GH villain have her hostage.

rebecca1
rebecca1

I think you’re right…he probably does get disfigured and thus the new face!

CeeCee
CeeCee

You are all so intuitive. You’re such pros. I mean it.

CeeCee
CeeCee

Those are pertinent questions you pose, Lucy. I asked myself if Jason will have a new face to hide his identity from Helena, or go with what Mary is saying…which makes sense too.
Now, what’s with the embryo-to-be still floating around in Helena’s hand? Holy Moly….who will be so lucky as to be the recipient of Stavros touched-by-the-devil seed?

jimdavis289@yahoo.com
jimdavis289@yahoo.com

I think Helene will capture Robin and have her carry Stravos and Lulus child…gives Robin/Kim another excuse to leave for months!!!

Lucy D.
Lucy D.

Thanks CeeCee. Sorry, I’m the west coast–still watching. Ok now I think that Helena wanted to implant the egg in Robin. But now–who knows? I think people above are right–Jason will have to have plastic surgery–and maybe will lose his memory.
Robin will vanish–maybe to show back up 10 months from now pregnant with Stavros and Lulu’s baby.
Patrick will hear about the explosion at the clinic and assume she’s dead. (Would they do that again?)

Harry
Harry

Rebecca, we should all be so disfigured.

Timmm
Timmm

It felt like sweeps!

Bill
Bill

I too will miss Victor. Urbane and eccentric, he was easily my favorite Cassadine since Mikkos. As to the recognition factor, I’m guessing that some plastic surgery is going to happen between now and Billy Miller’s unveiling, for whatever reason. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be showing us Steve Burton photos at every opportunity.

Lil
Lil

I found it odd that they keep showing Steve Burton’s picture when we all know who the new jason is. Why not use Billy Miller’s pic? I do hope Stage is is finally dead and buried. And I hope the Stefan turns out to be the real father. But I do hope the “who’s the father”doesn’t go on forever.

aria
aria

looks like they’re going the plastic surgery route, why? i don’t know know why, probably to play out his return, he’ll be in town, but no one will know who he is, again, why? i don’t know. maybe its a way of sticking it to steve burton, letting him know, hey, your history on this show, enjoy seeing yourself in pics and live happily in wisconsin.

Timmm
Timmm

Good point, see ya Steve!

christy

I read that they (robin & jason) might be involved in an accident, thus something happens to Jason’s face… So many characters get replaced with other actors, I don’t know why soaps do the stories that have to explain why someone looks different. I remember in the old days, a voice over would just announce “the role of so-n-so will now be played by ‘new actor'”

I really don’t need a ‘something happened to make you look different’ story line… unless it’s a mask! ha ha ha

rebecca1
rebecca1

They might be doing that so that no one knows who he is…therefore he’ll be back but Sam, Monica, LIz, Carly, Sonny, even Robin…won’t know it’s him. I assume along with that the Cassadine’s will program him in some way so that he won’t know who he is either. It’s an interesting way to go…for a while…although poor Jason went through amnesia after the car accident back in the day…losing his identity and thereby becoming Jason Morgan…

Ah, destiny…..

I would like to congratulate Sam for using her good sense and putting a halt to sleeping with Patrick. For once, I appreciate her restraint. This sheds a whole new light on Sam’s morals for me…not that I’m a prude…but, I liked what I saw…you go, Sam!

maybe Leisl’s father? she said whomever it was, the truth of who his father was worse than Victor. I can’t think she would mean Faison, so who would be worse than those two? Only think I could think of was incest.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Although I thought it was kind of corny in many places, I still enjoyed it. I truly love this soap. Highlights:

I LOVED how Lulu stood in front of Dante to protect him. Their bond is very well played and I think Emme Rylan and Dominic Zamprogna have a lot of chemistry.

Nathan’s kiss…LOL…not Maxie and Nathan’s kiss…Nathan’s! I think he has such leading man charisma ala Clark Gable or any of the stars of old…the way he held Maxi…just reminiscent of the vintage b&w films I’ve seen. But yes, I like them together! So cute!

Maybe I didn’t read spoilers but though I knew Robin was coming back again…I was still surprised to see her at this point. Thought she looked great (much better than her last return) and I thought it was great how all the characters found their escape…until…

The Big Bang. Looking forward to what’s going to happen next. Really do hope Victor isn’t dead, sorry Dunkledude is dead (thought they’d do more with him down the road)…also not liking that Stavros seems dead as well. All these legacy families are dying out…there’s only so many times they can be resurrected.

I’m thinking Fluke might be Nathan’s father…or even Jerry Jax.

On a frustrating note, I still think Anna seems incompetent…and where oh where is Duke!!! (c’mon…they don’t even bring up his name anymore…either have him on, or write him out!)

Shay
Shay

@rebecca1….I think this is the first time that ER was actually believable as Lulu “Spencer”…she finally demonstrated the same spunk, grit and gumption as JMB in her scenes with Stavros…although I have to say I am glad that lust-laden lunatic’s resurrection was a short-lived one. I hope it is his last!!! Not so much with Victor, however….TP needs to return to Port Charles as Liesl’s recurring nightmare. I am disappointed we did not learn more about their romantic history….it could have made for a most intriguing backstory. I also have to admit that I am feeling a bit disappointed that Victor turned out not to be Nathan’s daddy….I certainly hope he is not another Faison spawn….or even a Jax or Fluke Jr…..could he perhaps belong to a different Cassadine, such as the heretofore unseen Valentin? That man is purported to be utterly terrifying, so that would explain Dr. O.’s fear….let’s face it, not much fazes that normally cool as a cucumber chick!!!! Surprisingly, I was also sad to see the inglorious end of Peter Jr…..I enjoyed him much more in his post-Dunkledude mode…. it was far too brief. Maybe he will also make a shock return???? And was he really even a Harrell???? I posed a question about his “father” in a post below…the physical inconsistencies in relation to the original really perplexed me to the extent that I have to question if this latest scheme was all a masquerade. Lastly, not only is it extremely strange not to have Duke around at all, but I still cannot get past the fact that neither Robert nor Frisco made a quick cameo to save the day…the conditions just screamed for their presence, even though I understand that true life realities are what probably made their appearances next to impossible.

Ces
Ces

totally agree about Duke. Where is he?? so much promise and nothing has ever come of Duke & Anna. Pathetic really GH writers!

Tima
Tima

While I loved this episode I seriously question why alarms go off all over the building and almost everyone thinks it’s a good idea to stay put. Maybe it’s just me but after everything that happened there I’d be the first out the door.

I also wonder how many other patents were in that hospital we know at one point it was a real hospital since Nina was there, but did Victor move out all the “real” patents for his crazy ones?

Cherie
Cherie

I agree with you Tima. I got so frustrated watching yesterday. The whole time the alarms were going off I was screaming at the tv ”just get the hell out of there you idiots!” Also when Peter died again and instead of running while ”Levi” was distracted, Nathan and Maxie lingered. i thought it was so stupid that Nathan put his gun away after shooting Peter despite the fact that Levi was standing three feet away and now ha more reason to want them both dead. That’s like asking who s it after hearing a strange noise and you know you’re home alone in a horror movie.

rebecca1
rebecca1

I hear ya…though that didn’t even bother me as much as Maxi letting the door slam, to two I think, rooms, while she was trying to get help…At least Nathan turned around and held the door so it would close quietly.

Tima
Tima

Cherie those things bugged me too. Not to mention after Maxi killed Levi instead of checking to make sure he’s dead they have a make out session, another high point for me, but at the worse time.

Tima
Tima

Rebecca you’d think Maxi would know the rules to sneaking around lol.

Mary SF
Mary SF

The story was entertaining, but once again all the villains appear to be dead– at what point do they come back alive? It is this constant killing and coming back that becomes silly after awhile. But I suppose it is no different than the old Batman television show when all the villains either didn’t really die or escaped from where ever they were locked up. In that regard Batman was lousy at his job, for his villains always came back to get him. LOL.

So as long as you take GH for what it is, it is fun way to pass an hour.

CeeCee
CeeCee

Yeah, Mary…we will all be dead, and they’ll still be coming to life again, and again, and again. Lol
And, it is no different from BATMAN. I actually liked yesterday’s episode, in a ridiculous kind of way..lol

su0000

lol
we were lead to see them/the Cassadine’s as being dread..
but not one was declared dead and Victor was still alive..
The Cassadine’s are invincible!!
They are a bit bloody but alive!!
It was a good entertainment and the Cassadine’s live on!! (trust me on that one 🙂

Timmm
Timmm

So glad Nathan is not a Cassadine. Why? He doesnt have the acting chops to be nearly as delicious as Victor, Starvos, Helena, or Stephon. Plus, when Nathan dies I want him to stay dead unlike the other Cassadines who never die!

Mary Lynn
Mary Lynn

Nathan is not Victor Cassadine’s son. But it does mean that this father is NOT another Cassadine. There is another out there who according to Helena is far more dangerous than any other member of this family. That man is Valentin; son of Mikkos Cassadine and an unknown woman.

Valentin was disowned by Mikkos for some reason. Helena went looking for him because she thought that he could be controlled by her. Helena made a confession to her grandson, Nikolas, that Valentin was a major threat and he wouldn’t stop until he destroyed both the Cassadines and the Spencers. If Helena was afraid of Valentin it stands to reason that Dr O would be as well.

The writers may now have created the right story line to bring Valentin on to the canvas. Just imagine what kind of havoc this man would create in Port Charles. How do you suppose Valentin, the most dangerous of all Cassadines, would react if he were to find out that Nathan is actually his son? A son that Dr O had hidden because she’s afraid of Valentin.

Timmm
Timmm

Love it and I have the perfect actor to play Valentin. None other than Michael Muhney, formerly of Y&R.

CeeCee

@Mary Lynn…very intriguing theory!

CeeCee
CeeCee

Nathan is a hunk….and he can act. Give him a chance, Timmm. We all have to start somewhere. He will become quite the accomplished actor. And, by the time his contract is up, he will probably be snatched by Scorsese, starring in a role next to Leonardo Di Caprio.

Timmm
Timmm

Cee Cee, you shouldnt drink and post! Just kidding. Leonardo? I dont think so. He does have one hell of a body though. Kristen Storms would probably act on that show for free!

CeeCee
CeeCee

And, Timmm, I agree. Michael Muhney would be perfect in the role of a dastardly ,and then some, Cassidine.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Oh no…Timmm. I love Nathan. Had he been a Cassadine (I was thinking Dr. O somehow had the test results tampered with and that he really was Victor’s son…but then if that were so I think she would have confessed that to him as he lay dying) but if he were he’d be a “good” Cassadine ala Nicolas, Alexis and Sam. He wouldn’t need the over-the-top villainous chops.

Timmm
Timmm

I see your point. His acting has improved but I just dont care for him and thats probably a better reason I dont want him on the front burner.

RichCD
RichCD

While I certainly have enjoyed GH this week, I really miss the style and depth that the show used to have that made these crazy plots so much better. A little more buildup for Stavros’s return or the Aztec connection, a couple of days of remote shooting, and maybe this really could have reminded me of the ’80’s. Alas, no doubt they are doing the best they can with the severely reduced budgets.

su0000
su0000

What can I tell you, RichCD..

GH is longer in the 80’s .. this is the 21st century GH..
Times change.. So should the soaps.
Nonetheless.. GH rocks!! 🙂

the horrible hairdos of the 80’s and the polyester suits are gone too; thanky god!! lol 🙂

Addison
Addison

You’re thinking of the 70’s, Su00.. The 80’s was more about acid washed jeans, mullets and shoulder pads.
Rich makes some valid points.

RichCD
RichCD

I just wish they didn’t have to take so many story and production shortcuts. It lessens the show and does a disservice to a story like this. Case in point, virtually all of clinic action taking place in the same hallway and 2 rooms.

CeeCee
CeeCee

I don’t know how much build-up Stavros could have had. How do you herald a clown? Perhaps it is not my place to make such a comment, as I am not familiar with his history, but this is now, in the present and all I saw was a court jester.

Shay
Shay

I hear you, RichCD! Since it is obvious that production-wise the current regime cannot match that of their ’80’s counterpart, I have wondered why there have not at least been some original flashback footage incorporated to enhance the present storylines. For those of us who saw it the first time around, it would be a great treat to view it again, and the uninitiated could also benefit from the backstories….some carefully selected clips could give them an idea as to what set today’s plots in motion. (Would have been fun to see some “Ice Princess” stuff with Luke, Laura, Scorpio, Tiffany and the Cassadines, especially TP as Victor, plus Frisco and Felicia searching for the Aztec treasure!)

Harry
Harry

Yes, Shay, and such flashbacks could demonstrate the notion that if you’re going to feature over-the-top campy villains then it follows you must have over-the-top campy heroes to balance it out. Yesterday’s story was good but I found myself aching for both Robert and Luke of the Big Hair.
I like Dante, but he doesn’t seem strong as a hero type. I picture him saying to a villain,”Oh, please put your hands up, and won’t you please drop that gun? I’d really appreciate it.” Yes, Nathan provides good good eye candy but he doesn’t strike me as being very bright. When Victor asked him how he was feeling, he responded,”Is that a trick question?”

Shay
Shay

Then again, Harry, they may not want to provide viewers with evidence of how great GH once was….there is good reason why we wax nostalgic about the glory days in Port Charles….and as such, the current state of the show, no matter how fine on occasion, can only pale in comparison! But be that as it may, I would love to see a glimpse of yesteryear’s best….particularly Frisco and Robert, since there’s no indication they will be back in the flesh anytime soon!!!!

Shay
Shay

P.S. That would be yesteryears’…..

aria
aria

are we suppose to believe they killed all those villains? OKAY!, not buying it. but i guess its over for now…
since GH is now a sci fi soap I’m sure we will see all those losers again. plus we still have to go through another batch of villains, i.e Helena, and Heather…
looks like with jason they are going the plastic surgery route, hope i’m wrong, but its looking that way, why?
who knows, i have several theory, first, to prolong his return to his love ones, and yet he’ll be there unbeknown to them, it will be a game of who figures it out first.. Second theory is the show had filmed all these episodes and Billy miller had not been secure to play jason yet, so they had to keep showing steve burtons jason pic for now. hope thats the case, i’m not looking foward to the plastic surgery one at all.
okay and whose worse in Dr. O mind then Victor or Faison? so scare is she, that she “killed” victor to ensure no one knows whose Nathans biological dad.. i don’t even want to start guessing.
Sam kissing with Patrick, ummmm, ok, so is sam now the towns most desirable women? she’s going to have Silas, Patrick and NuJason all drooling for her? really? is liz now the shows ugly duckling? something is sooo wrong with how this is playing out..

Mary SF
Mary SF

if the Clinic explodes, Jason could get disfigured in the fire, and hence the need for plastic surgery. So when Sam will not get to see him see him, until the bandages are off and he’ll have a whole different face. That’s my best guess.

jimh(leave it to beaver)
jimh(leave it to beaver)

But would only his face get burned and need reconstructive surgery…what about the rest of his body?

Mary SF
Mary SF

@jimh– Bodies don’t matter, remember on Another World when Marley was disfigured in the hospital fire– she was Vicky’s identical twin, and after the fire the first actress who played the twins played Marley while the current Vicky stayed Vicky. The plastic surgery accounted for the difference in their faces, but no one ever explained how one twin grew taller than the other when they were identical before the fire–LOL

Don’t watch, but it sounds exciting. Wish Thaao was back on Days.

Mary Lynn
Mary Lynn

Days had more than several chances with Thaao and they blew it big time. They turned Tony DiMeria into a complete and total bore. Thaao belongs on GH where the writers know how to create story lines that make full use of his talent.

Timmm

He might be back since the heads at GH killed yet another character from the past!

Mary Lynn
Mary Lynn

You are assuming that Victor is actually dead?

jimh(leave it to beaver)
jimh(leave it to beaver)

I think Days wants younger Dimeras over the years…first Tony, then E.J. and now Chad!!!

CeeCee
CeeCee

You’re right, as usual, jimh. Someone needs to take the DiMera reins. But, who will lead the Cassidine clan….the bad ones cannot be all dead. So, I like this Valentin idea. Where would GH be without, at least, one crazy Cassidine?

Rodd
Rodd

I have enjoyed every single scene at the Clinic! Everyone involved has done a great job! And I do not believe that anyone who’s been stabbed or shot is dead. After all, this is a soap and there’s the promise of many villains returning to PC this fall. Plus, who would want to see TP or RKK gone for good? They’re just too good. I hope to see them all back in PC some time soon. ~ And what a nice surprise to see the police actually win one round!

su0000
su0000

AWESOME!
It was sooo exciting! I was on the edge! I liked that.

Jason..
Stavros said loud and clear that the Crichton-Clark Clinic had the capabilities to do things beyond our realizations.. It is a very advanced research clinic and bad bad bad stuff is experimented with there..
I believe..
Jason’s brain is in a different body, a brain transplant..
Transplant’s of all organs are being done, just not the brain, yet..
But in the Crichton-Clark Clinic they can be done..
therefore– the new body and face..
((you head it from me folks, folks 🙂 ))

The Cassadine’s are not dead..
RC and FV would never ever kill a Cassadine and not one was declared dead and victor was alive..
I have no fear! The Cassadine’s will live on!!
I want Peter Harrell Jr. (Zachary Garred) alive!! My Dunkelman, and perhaps he is alive..

Liesl gave us a big surprise when she shot victor wow! didn’t see that one coming!

It went from shootings to romance/Patrick and Sam, and we saw Tracy etc..
GH gave me a good time!!
Now, that is entertainment!!!

CeeCee
CeeCee

Wow, I like that assumption too, Su. A completely different approach…a lot more gruesome than plastic surgery, but, hey…isn’t that what makes the Cassidines tic?

Shay
Shay

The only problem with your theory is that Robin was working on reviving the dead based upon the science of cryogenics….Jason was the guinea pig of the project to perfect the process before Stavros and Helena were able to be resurrected, so it would seem highly unlikely that his return to the land of the living would be of a nature different than theirs. Since the Cassadines came back in their original bodies, it would seem to me we have to assume the same for Jason….he is simply going to be injured beyond recognition and as such, will have to undergo reconstructive facial surgery.

Hello to all of you soap fans out their. Just so you know, my REAL name is Connor. For all intents and purposes, and to no offense to any one at all, I will not be giving out my last name. Lol.

This is my very first comment and or post here on the AWESOME Michael Fairman’s soap opera website. I have been an avid reader of pretty much every single one of Michael Fairman’s soap opera news stories, soap opera storyline recaps, soap opera comings and goings, up and coming soap opera previews, and as well as having the utmost privelege in watching AT LEAST some of Michael Fairman’s soap opera interviews… all within the past two to three or so years.

I am a 22 year old screenwriter and or scriptwriter, and I am actually in the midst of writing three soap operas and one movie and or film, as we speak. I have been writing soap operas since I was about 16 years old. The titles are as follows…

1. “HIDDEN LIVES” (A spin-off of “Days Of Our Lives,” which includes no actual character from “Days Of Our Lives,” but actually hinders around the lives of characters and residents with whom are set in places like Kansas, Ne Hampshire… and beyond. I originally and or first and or in the very beginning had the title as “GAYS OF OUR LIVES”, but my brain finally came up with a different title, which of course gives “us” “HIDDEN LIVES”.)

2. “THE HUNT” (mob based soap opera, set in areas like California, Wisconsin, and New York State — with the occasional and or subtle hints of Wisconsin Cheese, Hollywood Mob Connections to The Performing Arts field, and New York State’s of mind.)

3. “SEXUAL STREETCORNER” (a yes… BOTH heterosexual AND homosexual based soap opera, set within the fictional cities and or towns of Straigtsville, Bisville, and Gaysville…and much, much more).

As for my take on “GENERAL HOSPITAL,” my all-time favorite soap opera in the entire world…?

The only tidbit I have for now, is that I have a sneaky suspicion that Nathan’s father could very well happen to be Peter Harrell, Sr. Which would, in turn, make for so much soapy drama.

Since you brought up the subject of Peter Sr., I have to ask are you as perplexed as I am about the man who supposedly portrayed him at C-C? As a fan from the “Aztec” days, I vividly recall the character as resembling a Nordic God….all blond hair and striking blue eyes (as the currently repeated use of his photo from his criminal file attests.) Then we get this brown-eyed, salt-and-pepper haired stranger that is purported to be this same man? Why? Was this just another scam on Maxie since she didn’t know the real Peter??? I can totally understand a recast after so much time has passed, but why keep showing a picture of the original when there is no resemblance whatsoever between these two men??? It simply makes no sense….(unlike with Jason, since we are expecting him to have a surgically-altered face when he arrives in Port Charles.)

su0000
su0000

shay..
Jason’s face will not be altered..
Jason new face and body will be because his brain was transplant ..
Jason’s brain was but into a different body ..
It is the future and someday it will be a noted transplant, and they have done face transplants successfully in real life..
Crichton-Clark Clinic is a highly secret research clinic, after all.. things we cant imagine are supposedly done there at the Crichton-Clark Clinic ..
ALL organs are now transplantable, so will the brain be 🙂
And Jason will be the first to have received one!! LOL 🙂

Thank you to CeeCee and all of the rest of you.

Can’t wait to get into the mix with you all about our lovely soap opera’s. Even though they all piss us fans off sometimes, I see it as that is only because we are all in a love and hate relatipnship with our best of friends; General Hospital, The Young and The Restless, The Bold and The Beautiful, and Days of Our Lives. As well as the ones we all truly miss; Port Charles, As The World Turns, Guiding Light, Passions, One Life to Live, and All My Children.

Great yesterday! Brought them back to kill them was cool! Nathan & Maxi great! But bringing back the dead is only the way to introduce New Jason! And probably bring back good ole Helena!

Ces

The only Helena I liked was Liz Taylor. I never understood the recast nor did I enjoy her interpretation of her.

Omar
Omar

Constance Towers was a brilliant Helena..She had more mileage with the character and made the part her own…Liz Taylor was a legend and I adore her in the cinema, but her brief cameo @ GH was not enough to own the character, in my opinion.

Would love to see her Helena back..And when played by Ms Towers you would get a delicious performance..I remember her over at “Capitol” back in the early 80’s when I was a young buck..Loved that show and she was great there.

CeeCee

I didn’t mind her on Capitol , I just don’t like her on GH– LOL, boy are we aging ourselves 😉 I respect your opinion though.

Harry

I agree with Omar. Helena is sublime as Helena and she wears those Chanel suits so well. Constance Towers is a beautiful woman, and I adore her.
CeeCee, I cannot believe you did not know that Liz Taylor was on General Hospital. She basically crashed Luke and Laura’s wedding and put a curse on the couple. Apparently Liz and Tony got along famously and she flirted harmlessly with him. They really hit it off. I wish I could post Youtubes in here, but if you put Elizabeth Taylor on GH in your search engine her scenes as Helena will pop up.

CeeCee

Well, Harry, anything’s possible!!! I just find it amusing (and rather puzzling….) the way LaNina and her abrasive sidekick have appropriated that room like its their own lair of insanity….I get she’s “friends” with Franco, but still, nobody ever questions it when she barricades herself in that paint pit to plan her next caper ala “The List” as if the premises were her own personal “Batcave?????” You would think the ever-curious GH warden, Dr. O., would pick up the scent of her niece’s bizarre behavior….perhaps once she gets back from her C-C adventure????

can’t believe I had to go thru months of dumb dunklehead for that unspectacular climax at the clinic. The two Peters and their angst…. dumb and just plain dumber.

Shay
Shay

They really did drag out the “Dunkledude” portion far too long. If there had been a crack in Levi’s veneer to let the audience know that our suspicions that he was not “kosher” were on track, that might have made the process more exciting, but it was just more of the same stuff with his obnoxious front over and over again. When he finally became transformed into Peter, and thus, more interesting, he was summarily dispensed to his death….or was he????? One can NEVER be sure on this show….

Uh, not sure what you’re implying, rebecca1…are you upset I appropriated your fond moniker for ZG???? I think we both sort of coined it simultaneously….although I preferred the preface of “Der” for added emphasis…anyway, I know you lurved Levi, but, sorry….he did wear out his welcome…yet, I truly would have enjoyed a moment of comic relief if the audience had been treated to him breaking character and chowing down a cheeseburger on the sly!!!!! Having said that, I’d love for “Peter-whoever- the-heck-he-is” to make a return appearance, but as for the “Dunkletrain,” it has left Port Charles station for the last time!!!

Becky
Becky

I haven’t been watching GH long, but episodes like this have me hooked. My only sorrow comes from the apparent killing off of Victor. Thaao Penghlis is one of the best actors in daytime television. He brings pure class to every character he protrays, even they are a bad guy. But even being new to the show I’ve learned that Cassadines never die, so I’m hoping for a return of Victor very soon!

Alan
Alan

I refuse to believe that Stavros is dead.

Robert Kelker-Kelly is nine kinds of awesome as the over the top — in a good way — mad Cassadine (and he’s also the only man to make Lulu interesting).

Jimmy
Jimmy

Yes, but Stavros seems to have nine lives, just like a cat! After a while it begins to get a bit ridiculous as to how often someone can come back from the dead, even on a soap opera.

rebecca1
rebecca1

As ridiculous as it can be…I so agree with you…I still don’t mind if I love the character!

Jamesj75
Jamesj75

It was definitely action-packed. Realistic, not so much.

To avoid any ” long chronic dissertations of bashing,” I’ll just touch on one thing: Maxi had just killed a man, isn’t fazed at all, and in the next moment, gets her first romantic kiss from Nathan and discusses her feelings for him. Granted, the guy was a villain and creep who had, among other things, kidnapped her and repeatedly threatened her life. But she wasn’t shaken at all to have taken a life?!?!

Mary SF
Mary SF

Yeah I agree it was an odd moment and place to be sharing their first kiss as a couple. If they ever get married and have grandchildren it will make one weird story to tell. Grandpa just shot a man, and I just stabbed another one, and we looked into each other eyes and kissed for the first time, over two dead bodies– it was really romantic— CREEPY

Jamesj75
Jamesj75

Mary SF: You had me laughing! Thank you! I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw it this way… 🙂

jaybird369

Mary SF…forgive me but your comment had me ROTFL…LOL!!!!! And…I can just imagine the stories being T-O-L-D at the Annual Family Reunion…LOL!!!!! ALL KINDS OF A-W-K-W-A-R-D!!!!! Oh, one more time…LOL!!!!!!!

Take care, Mary. XOXOXOXOXO

Jimmy
Jimmy

I completely agree, that was totally the wrong moment for that to happen, I’m surprised the writers had it happen when it did. 2 dead bodies lying right beside you (one of them your almost-husband and the other a man who terrorized your parents) is not exactly the most romantic spot for a kiss like that, especially a first kiss for the couple – as Nathan pointed out right after.

Jamesj75
Jamesj75

Right on, Jimmy! It’s bizarre, but evidently anything goes at that “Clinic.”

rebecca1
rebecca1

Mary SF… LOL!

Agree with everyone; but it was in keeping with Sonny and Ava having crypt sex at AJ’s funeral. Ron’s taken stress release to a whole new level!

Jamesj75
Jamesj75

“crypt sex”—good one!

Let me just say, in a larger sense, that I understand the intent of the advisory to refrain from negative “dissertations” and “chronic bashing.” Yet is it not helpful when viewers point out not only the good, but also, what is NOT working on the shows we watch? Some of us sincerely hope that perhaps the powers that be might just be reading the message boards at this and other such websites.

Can a viewer’s intelligence and patience be insulted without repercussion, without comment? Any reputable news outlet presents both sides. At this time, we are barraged by so-called news outlets in TV and radio that present the news from a skewed, political viewpoint.

If I leave a negative comment about a show, storyline, or actor, I fully expect to read equally important views from others who may disagree with me. As long as we’re not personally attacking each other here, I think a bit more latitude is a good thing.

Harry
Harry

James, that was my initial reaction too. I agree that we should be able to point out what isn’t working. Then I thought about it. There’s been a lot of negative feedback in this forum coming from disgruntled fans and I think we’ve had good reason to complain. Some of us (yes, me especially) have been rather redundant with our complaints.
I am not Michael Fairman, and I don’t play him on television but I can only surmise that maybe because GH has finally produced a decent hour of entertainment that now is not the time to complain. Maybe positive reinforcement for when entertaining stories are presented to viewers can be just as constructive as negative feedback. After all, if we complain even when the stories have improved then that makes us look like we’re just chronic, negative complainers thereby negating all of our previous constructive criticism. In other words, maybe we should pat these guys on the back when they tell a good story.

Jamesj75
Jamesj75

Very good points, Harry! In my daily life, I try to be as positive and happy as possible (in part because that’s who I am and in part because people respond better to that type of person), but there is a critic in me, too.

I think, in general, GH’s producer and head writer have done a remarkable job, particularly with the 50th anniversary celebratory year. For far too long, however, GH was a dark show, and the bulk of that darkness has been the tunnelvision focus on Sonny and the ad nauseum mob storylines. I know that Maurice Benard is a good actor, but I have never liked his character (although I’m sure some fans love him). How can I root for an abusive, foul-mouthed, quick-tempered murderer who is never held accountable for his crimes? Now it seems Sonny is frontburner again, and unfortunately that development clouds my overall view of the show.

Harry
Harry

I agree, James!
You know how some people say,”I’m gonna kill you?” but they’re usually just kidding? Sonny really means it. And he shoots first and asks questions later.
He’s a Kingpin but he’s dumber than a box of rocks. It’s like,”Opps. Sorry I killed you.
And how many times has he said,”I’m gonna take him out?” But not once have to seen him wine and dine the likes of Alcazar, Jullian or Carlos. I bet they feel so cheap and disrespected.

Jamesj75
Jamesj75

All true and funny, Harry! But even if Sonny were to wine and dine Alcazar, Julian, or Carlos (separately or all at once), we know he would still eventually end up with Carly…

jaybird369

Hey There James,

1. Dude…stop being so reasonable. Oh, I’m kidding…LOL!!!!!
2. More and more, your comments are SO PERFECTLY SPOT ON!!!!! Thanks a bunch!!!!!
3. I, also, try to be happy and positive. That is how my parents (especially my mom) raised me. But, I, also, have a critic in me. And…the critic in me is NOT AFRAID to open my mouth!!!!! Nope.
4. Yes…Maurice Benard is a good actor. But…of the two, Maurice’s former AMC character of Nico Kelly was WAY MORE LIKABLE than his current GH character of Sonny Corinthos. And I know of AT LEAST 22 people who TOTALLY AGREE with me. Oh, me and my LOVE of counting…LOL!!!!!
5. Dude…how can I root for an abrasive, ill-tempered and know-it-all dirtbag (aka Sonny) who constantly talks out of his you-know-what????? I can’t. Sorry.

Take care, James.

I must add that I thought Dominic Zamprogna’s performance was excellent! His frustration as the husband who couldn’t save his wife (while he is chained to the wall) was so full of fury, hurt and passion. I really felt his rage. Great job!

Jimmy
Jimmy

Yes, Dominic was great in these episodes, and so was Emme Rylan. I think she and DZ have very good chemistry, and while it took me some time to warm up to her version of Lulu, I really like her in the role now.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Hey Jimmy. Yes, I agree. I actually liked her from the beginning; don’t know why…just didn’t take me long to adjust to her like some others. Mentioned this in another post so I agree here too…they were both great and their love/bond really came through. But Dominic’s rage in that one particular scene…ugg…I just FELT the frustration of him wanting so desperately to protect his wife…so glad they had Dante do that.

rebecca1

Oh no…I was so hoping Victor would still be alive. Just read a tweet from Thaao Penghlis thanking Ron and Frank for the wonderful character of Victor & the exciting episodes he was “given”. Then he thanked them for the magic.

Shay
Shay

I just checked his tweet, too, rebecca1…..I found it a bit mysterious, not unlike the man himself! It left some wiggle room for a return…very open-ended, in fact. Perhaps he was simply providing a gracious thank you “for now” to the showrunners….he didn’t exactly say farewell!

Ces
Ces

I’ll be sorry to see Thaao & RKK go. Would rather them stick around causing chaos than half the characters in Port Charles.

Jimmy
Jimmy

Some characters are really needless (like Sabrina, Britt, Jordan, Shawn, the list goes on) but after all this, would Victor and Stavros sticking around actually be feasible? Maybe with Victor, but definitely not Stavros – the man is the living (and living-dead) definition of insanity. There is no redeeming a character like Stavros after all he’s done.

rebecca1
rebecca1

I don’t think I’d want him redeemed…where’s the fun in that? 😉

(But if they can redeem Franco, they can redeem anyone! They could say his insanity had thawed…or, in medical terminology, deep freeze destroyed his insanity cells.)

jaybird369
jaybird369

Hi rebecca1,

I agree. And, IMO, I’ve always thought that a soap should have at least 2 villains (one male, one female). I still feel that way. Bottom Line Here (at least for me): Soap villains=More FUN FUN FUN!!!!!

LATER GATOR!!!!! Peace.

rachie
rachie

Overall it was a better episode than most lately but some of the stuff was a bit off and aggravating. Anna used to be awesome dropping from helicopters and taking out several men at once now she has to be the stupidest police commissioner why are they writing her so incompetent. The whole telling Dante and Lulu to stay put irritated me it should have been get your wife out of here just simple things like that annoy the watchers. I love that Dr.O has so much spunk and seems to be the only one on the show to take action right away I agree with her thinking get rid of them or they will be back. GH has the best cast can we give them back their common sense.

Omar
Omar

You are SO right Rachie..I love Anna, but the writers make her seem a bit dumb founded and limited, not the kick ass Anna of yesteryears.

And so much for the mighty Sonny and his powerful mob cartel, you figure with all their power they will help search for his son and daughter in law..it will have added more substance to this whole storyline.

CeeCee

They will be back…sounds like a line from NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD…right? Lol

Some good acting and some fun scenes to watch..Was fun to watch with lots of drama and action but the stories itself were very fluffy, not much in them, very watered down..But glad the good guys won at the end, and this will not be drag on forever except the Jason story.

Despite the many resurrections of the Cassadines, you have to believe they’re dead. Victor is the one who triggered the building collapse. And Helena left Stavros’ body lying on the floor. She made no attempt to rescue him or drag him out of there.

I think they are done. Still leaves many mysteries to be solved. Who is Nathan’s dad? Will Anna make a deal with Liesl? Liesl no longer has Victor’s protection–so can she be fired from GH? What will happen to Robin–we know what will happen to Jason. I can’t believe they’re going to make everyone mourn Robin yet again–but they need some reason to explain what I assume will be another absence.

what i thought was very unusual ..
A horrific shoot out, bullets flying at everyone, and Sonny was not there..
first time I seen bullets fly and bodies dropping dead without Sonny holding/shooting I gun..
wired huh..

Harry
Harry

Sonny is a poster child for gun control, Su00. Let’s see, he accidentally shot his wife in the head when she was giving birth to Morgan. He shot his son Dante almost killing him. And he shot and killed AJ with the mistake notion that he killed Connie. despite all evidence to the contrary.
And Sonny himself has more holes in him than Sponge Bob.

Jimmy
Jimmy

So many villains died within 2 days… it makes me wonder if they’re all really dead. I’m pretty positive Peter Harrell Sr. is dead, he was already on his last leg so that bullet most probably did him in… as for Levi, I sure hope to God he’s dead and that story is done, because as interesting as it got when Levi’s true identity was revealed, I just can’t see him being a long-term player and I still despise him, so I’m glad he’s gone.

As for Stavros… the guy has more lives than a cat and he’s used quite a few already, so I’m thinking this was the last. As much as I love Robert Kelker-Kelly, I don’t know if I want Stavros to return again. And if he ever does, I don’t want him to be as over the top insane as he was this time around. At least with Helena, she has a more controlled craziness, but Stavros is just plain nuts. After this, I’m kind of hoping they don’t do another return from the dead story with Stavros.

But hands down, the saddest death for me was Victor because I love Thaao Penghlis and I loved to hate Victor, he is a great villain and TP is a fantastic actor. He brought such charm to the role, I loved every scene he was in – no matter how ridiculous (i.e. Franken-Jason waking up from his frosty nap). I’m really going to miss Victor and TP.

jbj
jbj

Can we please give props to the Jason stand-in? As a long-time fan of Billy Miller and even longer-time fan of Jason, he really did the job of portraying Jason’s machismo with a touch of comedic sensibility, which is exactly how I imagine BM embodying the character. Maybe it was that his physique was more Miller-esque, than Burton-esque (even with his “post-retirement” slimdown), but it got me excited.

What a thrilling, suspenseful storyline!! Shocking & surprising ending!! I did not see that one coming!! Absolutely loved having Thaao Penghlis back on my screen with his Victor C!!! The story line has so many stories going now, it is exhausting, but in a good way. Please, though, don’t let the scissor happy stylists cut Sam’s hair, or Sabrina’s hair. Three major women characters’ hair hacked off is enough. IF Victor is dead, it will surprise me. The one that should have stayed dead or in a coma is Nina, she is a piece of work.

I don’t think Victor and Stavros are dead anymore than Helena was dead. The kidnapping s/l has been great, best GH I have seen in a long time. Love Maxie and Nathan. God are those two cute or what. I hope Stavros and Victor made it out.I like both of them.We need villans as well as the good ones. And I hope Helena forces Robin to carry Stavros and LuLu’s fetus and I hope it turns out to be a girl that looks like LuLu.I can just imaging the chaos it could cause between Luke and Helena plus the rest of the families involved.
I have a wicked mind.

GH’s Roger Howarth Chats On Shifting From Franco To Drew & The Stunning Story Twist

In one of the most intriguing plots of 2019, General Hospital’s Franco Baldwin was morphed into Navy SEAL Andrew Cain following a harrowing mind-mapping procedure. In all went down thanks to Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) and Dr, Cabot (Time Winters), taking the life and memories of Drew (Billy Miller) from his flash drive and transferring them into Franco’s brain, wiping out his past and his present.  That followed the tearjerker moment, when Franco sacrificed himself to free his kidnapped stepson, Cameron (William Lipton) from the twisted procedure; that could have left the teenager with Drew’s memories or even in a vegetative state.

The recipient of this storyline – and who would be taking on another persona in his storied daytime drama career – is none other than Roger Howarth.  The Daytime Emmy- winning actor is no stranger to changing fictional identities on GH.  Howarth, played OLTL’s Todd Manning over in Port Charles, later switching to Franco (previously played by James Franco) following the legal dispute between ABC and Prospect Park.

Last week, viewers got their first glimpse of Howarth taking on the traits of Drew circa 2012, and in short order, it has caused emotional upheaval for Franco’s wife, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), Drew himself, Jason (Steve Burton), and Kim (Tamara Braun)… and that’s just for starters.

Michael Fairman TV chatted with Roger as he started his journey transforming his work from playing Franco to Drew and the challenges it presents, plus the ripple effect the change will have on the canvas for many of the characters.  In addition for One Life to Live fans, Roger chats about his appreciation for his time on that iconic series in a candid, self-effacing, and special conversation.  Here’s what Howarth shared:

When you were told that they were going to put Drew’s memories into Franco, what was your initial reaction to learning that news?  Did you think it was a great twist?

ROGER:  Yeah, I think it’s a great idea.  I really do.  Good story needs a lot of things, and this checks a lot of the boxes.  It brings people together; it provides obstacles.  There are a lot of places this could lead to.  I just think it’s really smart and interesting.  I look forward to it a lot, and I can already tell by what I have shot thus far that it’s going to be fun.

If this story is written well, what has happened to Franco will be life-altering and crucial to so many people’s lives in Port Charles.

ROGER:  What I like about it, and this isn’t lip service, is that it’s a great story because it affects a lot of people.  Those are the good stories.  Elizabeth has got to deal with this, the boys have to deal with this, Scotty’s (Kin Shriner) got to deal with it, Jason is confused by this information, and now this person in interacting with Drew, and Kim, and Shiloh.  All of the sudden, the canvas is interacting completely differently.  So, I think the writers are having fun with this as well.

Photo: ABC

Then, there is also the character of Kim played by Tamara Braun, who Drew shares a past with.  It will be interesting to see how that relationship plays out, we already witnessed Franco’s Drew instantly smitten and attracted to her.

ROGER:  Yes, the person in this body is running under a certain set of assumptions that no one else shares.  So, yes, it’s confusing to everybody, I am sure, including Kim.

Do you see Franco eventually flipping back and forth, and having personality traits of both he and Drew?

ROGER:  No.  One hundred percent, no, and that provides a real obstacle with a couple like Franco and Elizabeth.  They are always looking for obstacles to prove to the audience that these two people really do care about one another, and that’s the purpose of a story like this.  I’m guessing and hoping that it will provide the character of Elizabeth with a particular objective because it would be nice to see Becky be able to play all of those beats.

Right, and to have to fight for something…

ROGER:  Yes, it’s very tragic.  This is a character that is accustomed to tragedy, and to see Becky play the role of Elizabeth dusting herself off, trying to get what she wants is going to be really cool.

The tragic twist had Franco saving Cameron from winding up with Drew’s memories and being the vessel for Shiloh to use.  What did you think about how Franco sacrificed himself in order to protect Elizabeth’s son?  It was quite heroic.

ROGER:  I think the other beautiful part of this is that this was motivated by love.  I don’t see it as heroic.  I think as an actor, you’re always looking for the heart of the story, and the writers made it really simple.  He does this because he loves this kid.  Yeah, they’ve had their ups and downs, and they are struggling to figure out how they can get along, and they have a lot of things that they feel about one another, but push actually did come to shove, and I think that the character of Cameron is going to be deeply affected by that.

This now puts Franco deep within Shiloh’s storyline and past with Drew, because Shiloh desperately wants a key piece of information locked in Drew’s memories.  So, in theory, this kind of ranks among one of the better stories you’ve probably ever gotten to tell in your daytime career.  Everyone is hoping that it lives up to its expectations in the execution of it on-air.

ROGER:  It is certainly a high concept story.  It’s asking a lot of the audience.  So far, we’re all in.  It’s a good cast.  I work with really good actors, so I’m not worried.  It is asking the audience to suspend disbelief for sure.  The good stories do.  I think Erika Slezak (Viki) on One Life to Live, getting to play Dissociative Identity Disorder as Niki and Viki that was a large ask.  She never blinked.  She did everything that was asked.  I’m trying to follow her example.

Exactly, and she played more characters.  She had more alters after that.

ROGER:  (Laughs)  Yeah!  She’s better at this than I am.  I’m having trouble with the one. (Laughs)

What do you think about how Scott and Franco’s relationship will be affected, now that he is in essence “Drew”?

ROGER:  There’s no part of that relationship that hasn’t changed because there is no Franco.  Franco is not around … Franco has left the building.

He is a completely new person for all intent and purposes.

ROGER:  For sure.  This soldier doesn’t appreciate being called by somebody else’s name.  He is not compassionate to the people who mistake him for this somewhat tortured art therapist that he no longer is.

Photo: ABC

What is also interesting is that this should put you right into conflict and scenes with Steve Burton, because now you are essentially playing Jason’s twin.

ROGER:  Yes.  For me, as an actor, to get a chance to work with Steve, and to play a like-minded person, is intimidating frankly, but it’s exciting.

Also, the audience knows how Franco and Jason are such enemies, and now, he is really in his mind his twin.

ROGER:  Yeah, Franco sees in many shades of gray and other colors, and from what I can tell, Franco as Drew sees the world much simpler.  He thinks more clearly, he finishes his sentences, he thinks before he speaks, he knows what he is going to say.  His point of view does not waiver.  He is determined.

Courtesy/ABC

That’s got to be so exciting for you to get to play after all of Franco’s psychological baggage and issues.

ROGER:  I’ve got to say, it’s been a bit of a challenge for me to play someone with a different set of speech patterns and who stands differently.  Because Drew thinks and feels differently about everything; his body is the same, but his body is behaving differently, and it speaks differently, and he thinks at a different tempo.  They’ve been very patient on set giving me chances to do it badly, so far. (Laughs)  It’s not uncommon for me to get halfway through a scene and to have to start over.   I am essentially figuring it out as we go along.   I am very appreciative of the fact that they have been giving me a few extra takes to try and figure out how this guy stands.  He relates to people with a different set of space and time.  It’s cool.  It’s a cool set of puzzles.  It’s been really fun.  I’m a lucky guy.

When I first learned of the story twist, I was like, “Oh! Roger will be great in this.”

ROGER:  I don’t know, man.  I could be stinking it up pretty badly. (Laughs)  I think there’s a trap as an actor who has been asked to play twins, and the trap is that this guy is only acting the way that he acts.  The trap is frankly to act too much because the audience is being told that he is a different person.  If I go too far to try to demonstrate that he is a different person, then it slips into parody or overacting.  Over the years, I have definitely been guilty of overacting, so, I’m a little frightened of it. (Laughs)  I don’t like the way it feels.  I know how it feels to go too far.  I have been getting notes like, “You could pull it back a little bit.”  (Laughs)  It’s pretty funny.

Courtesy/ABC

In the past, I have heard you say you’d rather go to work and feel unsettled about what you are asked to play.  Does that still hold true?

ROGER:  For sure!  I’d rather go to work and leave my job knowing that it was terrible and that I get to come back the next day and make it a little better.  The best thing about daytime is how much it will stretch you and pull you and ask as much of it as you are willing to put in.

Now speaking of Franco, what did you think about the wedding reception on the yacht with Elizabeth?  Did you think that was a nice payoff for Friz fans?

ROGER:  Yes, for sure.  I thought it was a really sweet culmination to a sweet story about these two people finding one another.  I’m glad they incorporated a large part of the cast.  It was a really good idea.

Photo: ABC

What did you think of how all of Elizabeth’s boys (Cameron, Aiden and Jake) performed a song for Franco and their mom at the reception, and how Franco relates to all of them?

ROGER:  I think it was a really important story point, and it was nice, and it was easy to play.  They’re really good kids, and they’re also terrific people.

Franco really stepped up as a stepdad to Aiden, who had been bullied at school.  I loved the cooking scene, where Franco was baking with Aiden.  What do you think about their relationship?  I love that Franco is being very understanding.

ROGER:  I think he’s trying to be understanding.  I don’t think he’s really great at it.   I think he’s a human being just trying to figure out how to make the best use of his time here, just like the rest of us.

Photo” ABC

General Hospital needed a big jolt with an umbrella story like this that turns the canvas a bit upside down.  How does it feel to be at the epicenter of it?

ROGER:   I really don’t think I’m the center of the story.  I’m not even kidding.  The story is that this piece of information is worn on the shoulders of Franco, but the people who are most effected by that piece of information are Kim and Elizabeth.

It will be interesting to see what the reaction is like from the GH audience.  You’re not on social media.  Will you check out what they are saying … or the feedback?

ROGER:  I’m not on social media.  But, I believe there is a guy whose job it is to track that initial criticism/support.  I think it is kind of cool that we will get real-time reviews, you know what I mean?  I actually thought about that because with the character of Franco, it took us a while to figure out who the guy was.  There was a lot of blonde hair and some missed cues, and we weren’t sure which relationship would be featured, whether it would be Franco and Ava (Maura West), or whether he would wind up in Carly’s (Laura Wright) arena again.  It took a while to figure out the best way to put that guy in the canvas, and I imagine that it will happen again.  I didn’t dye my hair for this, but I did cut it. (Laughs)

How was working with Billy Miller in this storyline twist?  Were you there on his last day on set?

ROGER:  Yes, I worked with Billy not on his last day, but on his last show.  He was remarkable with dignity and with class, and I wish him all the best.  He did a great job.  He is a good actor.  I’m sure he will find somewhere to go be an actor.

Throughout your soap career, has there been a story that you initially pooh-poohed, but when you did it, you thought, “Oh, this is great!”

ROGER:   There was a story when Carly and Franco were together, and they wrote a story where Franco gave Carly a gift that wound up being a camera…

Photo: ABC

The evil-eye necklace!

ROGER:  Yes, this small seeing rye.  I just thought, every time Franco would come in and say something like, “Oh, you’re wearing the necklace.  It’s so beautiful,” while we were doing it, I was like, “Wow.  The audience is really going to hate this.” (Laughs)  However, my real-time Twitter is the subway, and while it was airing, I got on the train and sat next to this really amazing fan, who just told me how much she loved that story, and I was honestly surprised and pleased.  I am often wrong, and it doesn’t surprise me now when I am wrong  … because I was really wrong then.

You mentioned Franco with Ava which was a potential pairing. I think you and Maura West have always had great chemistry together on screen.

ROGER:  Yes, she’s a pretty great actor.  She’s great with everybody.

She is.  You knew Maura’s work first when she was at As the World Turns, while you were there, also?

ROGER:  I didn’t know her well at As the World Turns, but I knew who she was.  She’s a hard worker, and Jack (Michael Park) and Carly always had a lot to do.  She was pretty focused when she was there, but I spoke to her.  I didn’t feel like I got to know her until I got to work with her on GH.

Last month on July 15th would have been the 51st anniversary of One Life to Live. I saw a lot of people commenting and remembering the show on social media that day. I put together four photos on a post I made about that show featuring some of the remarkable actors who were a part of it.  From there, I received hundreds of comments of how people were just missing the series, the characters, and actors they loved in it, including you.  When you look at the list of people from yourself to Judith Light, to Robin Strasser, Bob Woods, and of course Erika Slezak – it’s such an unbelievably talented group who spent time in Llanview.  Do you ever think about what an incredible experience that was, and how the fans still miss that show so much?

ROGER:  All the time.  I mean, I’m a lucky guy.  I think it really was a special building to work in, and the people who we are talking about: Erika (Viki), Bob (Bo), Robin (Dorian), and Phil Carey (Asa), and Clint Richie (Clint), and John Loprieno (Cord), the people who made it possible for me to work there set an environment and a tone that made it a really special place.  It was a really good cast, like you said, and there was a lot of opportunity for them to write a really cool story.  I wasn’t a part of the AIDS quilt storyline, but to realize that they told a story like that and incorporated that into our show was wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Such an amazing story and One Life was telling socially relevant and important issues of our time, always.

ROGER:  I can’t say for certain, but I do believe that the original concept of the Todd, Marty (Susan Haskell), and Powell (Sean Moynihan) storyline was kind of supposed to be initially an effort to bring awareness to a horrible, violent crime.  That was a long time before the #MeToo movement.  I think it was a show where the writers had a social conscious as well and really brought awareness to a lot of different things.  That’s a great legacy and something that show should be very proud of.

Once the character of  Todd Manning took off on One Life, and how they found ways to redeem him, and how it spoke to how much the network, the show, and the audience responded to your performances, did you ever feel you had a bit of a safety net as an actor, or were you like, “I’m going to be fired tomorrow?”

ROGER:  This is truth: I am so grateful to have a job, and I don’t take anything for granted.  I don’t think anybody is safe in this business.  I just don’t.  I just don’t think anybody gets to say that they’ve arrived.  I just did a roundtable, and I shared this with people who have a lot more clout and opportunity than I do – that actors are by nature, the good ones, are aware that every day that you get to go to work is a privilege, and don’t waste it.

Photo: JPI

In soaps, for the most part, when someone is stepping into someone else’s role as a recast, or actor who played one role is changing to another, there seems to be this reactionary period of adjustment, and then, there is acceptance from the audience over time … unless you really stink it up  … as you say. (Laughs)

ROGER:  Here’s the thing, and this is why I think this is such a great idea, it’s not about me playing this part, it’s about how Elizabeth, who has been on this show for twenty-something years gets to react to it, and giving her the ball.  It’s flashy that Franco is Drew, but it is really and Elizabeth/Kim story.  I may be the one overacting and stinking it up, but it’s theirs. Do you know what I mean?  It’s not my story.

Photo/ABC

What do you want to say to the fans about this new “role” you are taking on at General Hospital?

ROGER:  I want to say that I really do appreciate the fans.  Here is the thing, they’re down for everything.  I hope they’re down for this.  It’s a big ask, but I really hope that they like it.

So, what do you think of Roger as Andrew Cain thus far and how the storyline is beginning to take shape?  Are you excited to see how Franco becoming Drew (through the mind-mapping procedure) shakes up the canvas? Do you hope Drew returns to be Franco sooner than later? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Franco Looks In The Mirror … And Believing He Is Drew Kisses Kim

This week on General Hospital, viewers have seen that when Franco (Roger Howarth) awoke from his mind-mapping implantation  (thanks to Shiloh and Dr Cabot) he woke up saying that he is “Drew Cain”.  Thus, as far we know, Franco now carries the life and memories of Drew from 2012 and back, and as of now, has no trace of Franco’s memories.

When Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Drew (Billy Miller) try to make Franco understand in his confusion what transpired,  Liz brings a mirror to Franco to see his face, which makes this all the more terrifying for him.  Liz insists to him that she is wife, but he tells her that he is sorry but he does not recognize her.  Franco insists he is going to leave town and Drew asks him to please stay put, as Liz promises that they can reverse what happened to him.  But can Liz really promise that?

Later, Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) fills Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) in on what happened and how Franco now was implanted with Drew’s memories, which leaves them stunned.  That means Franco, who is one of the people Jason loathes most in the world – now believes he is Jason’t twin brother.

Meanwhile, as Kim (Tamara Braun) and Julian (William deVry) prepare to leave Port Charles for Manhattan and start live anew, (so Kim can not be haunted by her life in Port Charles from the recent death of her son, Oscar) things are about to make a shocking turn … for her.

Back at GH, Liz is upset when Franco decides he must get out of his hospital room.  Liz is scared he will just skip town knowing he feels he has no ties there.  Drew reassures her that because he is a version of him, the pull will be way too strong for him to exit Port Charles.

Kim is now at the hospital getting ready to turn in her resignation letter and runs into Franco.  He recognizes her and calls her “Kim!” You can tell he is quite smitten with her.  Kim is not sure why Franco is acting that way.  She announces she is leaving Port Charles to which he says he is going to come with her. She sees he has a hospital ID bracelet on, so she thinks something has happened.  Just then, Franco tells her about the first time Drew Cain and her met up! This shocks Kim  … and the next thing you know … he moves in for a major kiss and lip-lock as Drew and Liz look on.

Constance Towers Returns To GH As Helena Cassadine … But Just How Does She Appear?

Now, any General Hospital fan knows that if there is skullduggery and evil going down, Helena Cassadine (whether dead or alive) is usually somehow involved when it comes to the lives of certain people in Port Charles.

And … some major storyline news from TV Line reveals that on next Monday’s August 19th episode of the ABC soap opera, Constance Towers reprises her role as the evil one herself … Helena!

Apparently, look for Helena to appear in a flashback with none other than Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) and about Drew Cain’s time in Afghanistan.  That scene might hold a key to just what Shiloh wants now that he has implanted Drew’s memories into Franco (Roget Howath), thanks to Dr. Cabot’s work.  But could what is revealed also relate to the story that will see Billy Miller (Drew) exit the canvas later this month? Stay tuned.

Viewers last saw Helena alive in story until November of 2016, but then she was part of Jake’s hallucinations that were a part of the chimera storyline that climaxed at the Nurses’ Ball back in May of 2017.

So what do you think Helena’s presence in a flashback will reveal? And, who is ultimately having that flashback? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
