General Hospital Casting Leading Man! Who Would You Suggest For The Part?

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

A major casting call has gone out from General Hospital! In it, it details that the ABC soap opera is looking for a “Bonafide leading man.”

Further details of the casting notice relate, GH is looking for an actor who is caucasian, 32-37, very sexy, dynamic and charismatic.

Acording to Soap Opera Digest, the role would start shooting in November, and it’s a contract role for a new leading gent.

When this casting news hit the Twitterverse today, some fans are tweeting that this may actually be a casting notice for a possible replacement for the character of Patrick Drake played by the incomporable Jason Thompson.  It has been rumored via Daytime Confidential that Thompson would be up for contract negotiations this time of year.  Should the GH star decide not to re-up his deal with the series, it would be a tremendous loss for the soap, who needs to give this perennial Daytime Emmy nominee, story worthy of his talents.

So, on face value of the casting call, if this is a new leading man/character, what actor would you like to see come to Port Charles and join the cast that fits the bill?  Share your suggestions in the comment section below!

Given the abundance of youngish male characters on GH, I hope that this new guy is a doctor per the new writers’ promise to re-center the stories around the hospital. With or without Jason Thompson, we need another doctor on staff. Perhaps someone to help Elizabeth pick up the pieces when she’s blown to smithereens for her deception– poor Elizabeth doesn’t seem to be able to do anything without a man by her side.

James Hyde was born in 1962; that makes him 53 years old. GH is looking for an actor 32-37 years old.

He is WELL beyond the 32-37 age range. He was that age 16 years ago when the late NON-lamented Passions premiered.

No replacement please, if an actor is leaving let the character go to, we need time in between replacement, as for another Caucasian chapter, WHY? can’t they concentrate on who they have? Give and Asian or Hispanic or African American actor a chance to be a leading mem. These shows never progress how disappointing..

I hear you Aria. Too bad these soap bosses won’t go out there way to hire more talented minority actors. They’re still living in the past. I started watching soaps on and off during the 80’s and frankly nothing has changed. Daytime will never catch up with Prime time in the casting department.

Sexy and charismatic 30 something male-that whole description leaves me out…lol…it would be difficult to recast JT as Patrick…Guy Wilson needs a job…ok, im joking there…if JT does leave for whatever reason why recast…let him leave and reunite with Robin but if he stays i hope this casting call ends…seriously, this show needs another newbie like i need another hole in my head and there is no more room for yet another hole…lol

When you’re right, you’re right, jimh!!!! And you are RIGHT! By the way, just wanted to let you know that next weekend the new CBS digital channel, “Decades,” is running a “Dark Shadows” marathon. They call it a “Decades Binge.” There is a different classic show featured every week. Check your listings! (Mine is on a CBS affiliate as .2 channel….)

I never miss it…the show had some serious flaws here and there but DS was so cool they were easily over looked…i was a member of its fan club for 30 years and one of my plotline suggestions was printed in their fan magazine…i also had dolls made of several characters and i also made a diorama of Collinwood living room!

Well, jimh, I took a looky at the DS “Binge” over this past weekend. Even though I had seen the odd episode before when this show ran in reruns after the school day in the ’80’s, I wanted to watch a few in a block. They were interesting, to say the least! Lots of very familiar faces from later soaps who apparently got their start in Collinwood!!!! Part two of the marathon continues this upcoming weekend……perhaps I’ll tune in for another peek!

Michael Park is now in his 40’s to early 50’s. He’s not that young anymore. So, he wouldn’t work. Jeff Branson (ex-Nina’s long lost son on Y&R)! He would fit the bill easily.

Wait, I am under the impression that they are NOT recasting the character of Dr Patrick Drake. Nor should they.
From what I understand from this blog and other various soap forums, they are merely looking for a new leading man who happens to be white and in his mid to late thirties.
Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that they are not recasting Patrick Drake.

@Harry. Jason has expressed disinterest in the writing of Patrick and his contract is set to expire. No rumors, but speculation. It may be just ABC casting in case Jason walks or it could be a whole new character?

I was one of Michael Muhney’s critics at the time of his firing because I’ve been in Hunter King’s shoes as a young woman in the workplace. That said, he’s done his mea culpa and he’s a damn good actor. It’s time for him to return to soaps and GH is the only existing daytime drama that is possibility IMO.

CeeCee, there were other reports of it. That is why he was fired from “Veronica Mars”. Robin and Patrick were amazing together and his other pairing failed. Kimberly and Jason had a naturalness. No one can compare to Scrubs. They got a show for their popularity. That’s why his other pairing don’t work. Robin wasn’t bossy if you watched and she and Patrick were on level ground with intellect unlike his pairing with the dumb Nurse and now the dumb mobby wife. The show did a huge injustice to JT when Kimberly left again for the umpteenth time, by not recasting Robin. The writers only want to write for the Robin half and Kimberly has no interest in being there except for a very short stint every couple of years when she has nothing better to do.

I am happy she is doing what she wants but it’s not fair to the fans to leave the character (and her show family) in boring limbo when she’s not available. Recast and give Patrick, Emma, Anna, etc a real story.

The new bride wants to make the house her own, yes? ……new furnishings, new everything. And, of course, new babies. That’s what the new characters represent….the new writers’s creation. Makes sense.

If they are committed to a Caucasian actor, Blake Hood could be good. If they would go for a bit older actor, how about Hunt Block who once plated Craig Montgomery on ATWT. If they would go with a black actor, I’d vote for Lawrence Saint-Victor from B&B. He’s talented, super hot & criminally under-used on his current show.

Yes, Blake Hood! Granted, I think he’s still in his 20’s, but I think with the right make up, he can play for early to mid 30’s. Y&R letting him go as Kyle Abbott was a colossal mistake!

John-Paul Lavoisier signed on to play the recast of Philip on Days. He should be showing up a few months from now. James Scott continually says that he does not want to return to daytime at this point. If he did GH could not compete with days, which would pay big money to get him back as E.J.

The fact they are requesting a Caucasian indicates most likely it is a recast or a family member of an existing character, where to have a non-Caucasian would be difficult or impossible to explain. (Though Blair’s racial makeup on OLTL did change when Kassie DePaiva took over!) I don’t think Michael Muhney, James Scott or Trevor St. John have any interest in soaps at the moment. Shawn Christian is a decade too old. So are Michael Park and Cameron Mathison. My choice would be Mark Lawson (Brody from OLTL). Everyone on GH seems so hard-edged and nasty. LOL @ racial make-up. Kassie DePaiva is the ultimate recast queen. Blair was originally a short annoying Asian woman. Then tall blonde Southern Kassie took over and owned it for 18 years. Eve on Days was originally a short annoying part British woman. Then tall Southern Kassie took over and just recently started owning the role. Sad she is leaving, but Eve is kind of a peripheral character. Funny trivia…Kassie is two years older than the woman who played Eve’s mother way back in the day, Karen Moncrieff.

Funny you should mention Mark Lawson, sonniorsolita. I thought of him, in Patrick Drake mode, since I assume that’s whose shoes he would be filling. However, I stopped short. The “other Sloane” did nothing for me. Sonny doesnt have 3 sons. He he has two. Kidnapping a child by hanging his father onto a meathook and forcing him to sign over parental rights does not a father make. Sonny has screwed every female aged 18 and over. He is gross and greasy and an unrepentant murderer. Only on soaps would such a character survive and thrive. I am all for the show continuing to progress along with the once-in-a-while introduction of new characters that are tied to the core of the show and core families. Walt Willey Brings All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery to General Hospital

Look for another legal eagle character from a former ABC soap opera to pop up on General Hospital!

News today out of Soap Opera Digest has that none other than Walt Willey set to reprise his role as All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery on upcoming episodes of GH in July.

Willey played Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) love interest and the Pine Valley lawyer from 1987 through to till ABC’s cancellation of the series back in 2011.  The actor previously crossed-over to another soap opera in 1996, when he played Jack on ABC’s The City.

Photo: ABC

Taking to his Facebook account, Walt confirmed the news on his appearances on GH: “Hey Folks… Been sitting on this one for a while but now I’ve been given the clearance to announce that “Jackson Montgomery” is visiting Port Charles! I’ll be doing a few episodes of General Hospital, due to air mid July. So excited to reprise my character and see and work with old friends! I’ll keep you posted on any details. “Jackson” in Port Charles…who would have thought it? Let me, and ABC, know what you think about it!”

Could Jack’s sudden arrival in Port Charles have to do with the SEC and the trouble that Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) find themselves in?   Will AMC fans get to see Cameron Mathison and Willey share scenes together again?  Mathison played Ryan Lavery on the beloved former soap opera.

So, excited to see Walt on General Hospital? What do you think brings Jack to Port Charles? Weigh-in below and stay tuned.

B&B’s Scott Clifton Reflects On His Conflicted Emotions on Winning Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Over Y&R’s Kristoff St. John

The Young and the Restless’ beloved Kristoff St. John (ex-Neil Winters) passed away back in February of 2019, and at the age of 52-years-old.  Back in 2017, St. John along with The Bold and the Beautiful’s Scott Clifton (Liam), were nominated alongside each other for the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category at the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

A win for either would put them in the Emmy record books to become the only actor to win all three of the Daytime Emmy acting categories as of that time: Outstanding Younger Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Lead Actor.

During his appearance on Maurice Benard’s You Tube series, State of Mind, Clifton talked about the emotions and ups and downs of eventually winning the Emmy over St. John, while knowing how much it meant to Kristoff, and given late actor’s reel. In it, St. John shared scenes with the late Nichelle Nichols, who played Neil’s dying mother.

When discussing his three Emmy wins with Benard, Scott expressed: “It’s beautiful, but remember Kristoff St. John.  I got to do a couple of events with him, and I got to talk with him, and the year that I got ‘Lead’, he was nominated.  He and I both had a Younger Actor Emmy and a Supporting Actor Emmy, and if one of us won, everybody was telling us, we would have this record of the first actor in daytime to have a Daytime Emmy in all three categories.  And, he told me, and this was months before he passed away, he told me, it was really important to him to win that.”  It was then, an emotional Clifton shared: “That Emmy is not worth it to me. It’s bittersweet.”

Photo: NATAS

As to how Scott feels he wound up with the gold statuette, the B&B star acknowledged, “So much of that it is who happened to be submitting that year, etc, and this was the first year they changed the rules. All I did was take advantage of the new rules, and I was smart about it.  I did not have the best performance, but they changed the rules where instead of submitting one episode through the year, you could submit a 20-minute tape and you could grab (scenes) from whatever episodes, and I made a story with it. I was playing the voters, but I didn’t have the best performance.”

In tribute to St. John, Clifton said, “His performance  was beautiful, but it was all in a hospital.  It was so intimate and small, and controlled and authentic, and mine was all over the place, but I told a story.  I’m convinced that’s the only reason I won.”

Courtesy/CBS

Scott’s reel that year was also outstanding, so many could see why he won the coveted prize and made Emmy history.

Check out the poignant story as told by Scott to Maurice in the latest episode of State of Mind below.

Then, let us know what you thought about Scott opening up on of his career-defining moments via the comment section below.

General Hospital’s Réal Andrews and Finola Hughes Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’

Two different storylines, two noteworthy performances, and both from General Hospital, made our weekly kudofest.  The first, belongs to the heartbreaking performance that still has everyone talking by Réal Andrews as Marcus Taggert.

Last week’s episodes of GH, brought with it the results of the DNA test that ‘proves’ just who is Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) biological father, Taggert or Curtis (Donnell Turner)? When Trina opened the envelope to reveal the answer in front of Portia, Curtis and Taggert, she announced it was Curtis, who was her dad.

However, if you watched the scenes carefully, you saw the subtle work by Andrews as he was attempting to remain calm before receiving the answer and what followed afterwards, but that was in front of Trina, Portia and Curtis and his attempt to put on a brave face through it all.  In reality, Taggert was devastated by the news.  When he said his goodbyes, Taggert got inside the GH elevator.  Once there, he lost it and began to cry, punching the elevators walls with his fist.  A five-hank

Meanwhile, Finola Hughes once again showed us the layers and the veracity of Anna Devane. This time, while at WSB headquarters, Anna’s past as a double agent comes to light.  Agent Hersley had her under arrest, as she is being accused of treason against the state.

Courtesy/ABC

While Anna’s past as a DBX double agent were known to the agency, they weren’t known to the public. Thanks to Victor’s will reading and the revenge plot he set in motion against her, now Anna is up against more formidable foes.  When speaking with her lawyer, Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight), Anna says how can she dispute the charges against her when they are true?  She realizes in this instant that the WSB wants to hang her out to dry to cover their own asses.  Hersley threatens Anna, that if she fights the charges, they will be forced into looking into the actions of her associates, Robert Scorpio and Annie Donnelly.

Not having it, Anna throws down saying she will seriously embarrass the WSB if they pursue this … and if anything happens to Robert, Annie or anyone else she cares about, she will take the bureau down with her.  After Hersley caves, Martin asks Anna what happened. Anna states she is no longer an agent and will never be again.

This material gave the mighty Hughes the material to shine, as Anna went from having the rug pulled out from under her, to fighting back, to now not knowing what her future holds after saving others.

Courtesy/ABC

For all the reasons cited above, Michael Fairman TV names the work of Réal Andrews and Finola Hughes as last week’s ‘Power Performances of the Week”.

Do you agree with our picks of GH’s Réal and Finola? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below, but first check out some clips from their work below.
