‘General Hospital’ Casts Y&R Alum Rory Gibson as the New Michael Corinthos
After all the speculation, it was finally confirmed by General Hospital on Thursday, that indeed, Rory Gibson is the venerable 62-year old soap opera’s new Michael Corinthos. A show spokesperson shared, “We are excited to welcome him to our show.”
Gibson steps into the role on-screen during the height of the drama on the 4th episode of the 2025 GH Nurses’ Ball which airs tomorrow on Friday, May 23rd. This means that The former Noah Newman of The Young and the Restless is now the official replacement for Daytime Emmy-winner, Chad Duell who left the show after 15 years late last year, and whose last episode aired on January 21, 2025.
Y&R fans know that Rory played the on-screen son to longtime star-crossed lovers Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) from 2021-2023. As for Gibson’s road to taking on the role of Michael Corinthos, according to his talk with TV Insider, he shared he had actually sent in a self-tape to audition for the role of Vaughn which ultimately went to Bryce Durfee that kicked things off.

However, Rory shared that he did a chemistry read for the role with Eden McCoy (Josslyn) and, “then I had a nice little chat with Frank Valentini (EP, GH) afterwards, and I could kind of see the wheels turning as we were talking.” A few days later, he got a call from for a role that was kept, “super, super top secret.”
At that point, Gibson screen-tested with Kate Mansi (Kristina) and Katelyn MacMullen (Willow). But that was just step one! Next, Rory shared, “A couple weeks went by, and they brought me in for another screen test with Steve Burton (Jason) and Laura Wright (Carly) and about a week after that, they locked me in, and it’s been a nice little journey ever since.”

As for taking over the role from his predecessor, Chad Duell, the nuMichael explained, “You don’t want to necessarily copy anything that anyone’s done before, and I know Chad really owned this role and he did incredible, incredible work, so I tried to stay away from watching too many old episodes and was more looking things up online.”
When Rory debuts on GH he will be smack dab in the middle of major story. “He is at a huge crossroads in his life. He has a thirst for vengeance and justice because it’s no secret what Drew (Cameron Mathison) put him through,” stated Gibson. “I think he’s at a place where he so badly wants to have a calm and peaceful life, especially after everything he’s gone through, but I don’t necessarily see that happening for him.”

Now playing the central role of the son of Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly, Gibson expressed, “I do feel a really strong connection to this character of Michael. I feel like he has a lot more at stake and with the storylines that he’s woven into; there’s so much suspense and so much consequence behind all of them. It’s terribly, terribly exciting to play and challenging to play, so I’m feeling very fulfilled in this new role. It’s been very intense, but I’m loving every second of it.”
Since the news broke on Thursday, several of Gibson’s former Y&R co-stars have taken to social media and shared their thoughts on the casting of their former co-star. Jason Thompson (Billy, Y&R) exclaimed, “Dude!! Stoked for you. And @mauricebenard be good to my boy!” While Sean Dominic (Nate, Y&R) said, “Congrats buddy. You’ve gone to the dark side!”
So, are you excited to see Rory Gibson as the new Michael Corinthos on General Hospital? Going to give him a chance to win you over as the recast for Chad Duell? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
Michael is a Quartermaine, a Spencer, and a Corinthos, with a soon to be born child who is a Scorpio (even if that was part of the dumbest rewrite in GH history). Because of this, Michael is the ultimate GH “legacy kid” and arguably THE most central character of the show, at least in terms of any future General Hospital might hope to have.
As such, they had better choose very wisely with this recast. They can’t waste any time with epic failures along the lines of NuJagger, or the first two attempts at a Molly recast (third one is OK). Or pretty much anyone calling themselves “Nikolas Cassadine” who wasn’t Tyler Christopher.
Y&R has never aired in Hell, so admittedly I’m not familiar with this Rory guy’s work. But these are some Size 666 shoes he has to step into, with all of the turmoil in Mikey’s life – between his custody battles, his sleazebag uncle banging his wife, his mama hooking up with a spy, his little sister BEING a spy, and the forces of darkness (or at least DORKness) conspiring to take down his father. And of course the impending death of his grandma Monica.
That’s a lot for even the best equipped recast to walk into. Can this guy pull it off?
It’s big boy panties now. You have to bring your A game for a lot of roles. You can do this!!!!!
NuMolly is more than “okay.” She’s fantastic; way over Haley Pullos. I’d FF every Molly scene with Pullos even though she was on very infrequently. Now? I look forward to Molly’s story and really love her with Cody.
Here’s hoping Rory aces the role. Frank & Mark must’ve seen something special in the Vaughn audition to consider Rory for the most important legacy offspring on the show.
Very dull lifeless actor on Y &R, he is no Chad Duell
I don’t find Chad to be that intense of an actor. He’s no James Dean.
Chad had one expression. Deer-in-headlights. I’m looking forward to NuMichael.
Welcome to the GH family! Can’t wait to see your take on Michael!
Honestly, he is not my first choice, and feel he’d better suit Dillon Quartermaine, who should have come onto the canvas in replacement of Michael Corinthos. Plus, I do feel like Robert Adamson should have been given a true chance at the role, given he did well during his pinch-hit tenures for Chad Duell.
Agree with you Scott. I would have preferred Robert Adamson for the role. I liked him when he stepped in when Chad Duell was unavailable.
I know nothing about this actor but I’m with ya on them needing to bring Dillon back to PC. Anything to keep Tracy on the canvas. The more reasons we have to keep Jane Elliott around the better.
If Scott Clifton is not leaving B&B, then Darin Brooks would make a good Dillon. He has the comedic timing necessary for the character.
With Michael’s return, will he be paired romantically with Sasha?
Too young to be Michael. The actors are 8 years apart in age.
8 years is alot? wow, ok, but the characters are not the same age as the actors who played them, technically michael is younger since the character was SORAD. just saying.
Michael was SORASed from 12 to 17 when he was in a one year coma. But he’s got two kids (soon to be three) and is an “executive” in two of his family’s corporations, so you wouldn’t want him to look too young.
Funny thing is he’s the same age as Kate MacMullen( Willow) with both actors being just shy of thirty. With Chad’s baby face, he could pass for thirty so I don’t think the 8 year age difference matters. With Rory as Michael, Willow is going to look at that fast talking corrupt, aging game show host and think,” I’ve made a HUGE mistake.”
Anybody here remember when Jed Allan stood in as Edward Quartermaine? Allan was about 15 years younger than “son” Stuart Damon, as I recall!
Everything about that recast was horrible. And John Ingle’s brief take as Mickey Horton on Days wasn’t all that much better. Thankfully it was short-lived, John was back as Edward and stuck with the job for the rest of his mortal life.
Ironically Jed Allan should have been the one who went back to Days. Poor old Don Craig went out to check the mail one day in the early 80s and was never heard from again. And then his history with Marlena was practically erased, so they could create a false backstory with an abomination of a character called “Alex North” (who was ironically portayed by Wayne Northrup, the OG Roman Brady)
Yes, Ingle wasn’t suited for Mickey, but it was a great way for him to stick it to Jill Phelps. She thought he’d settle for a recurring Edward. He pretty quickly got the contract offer from DAYS. When he returned to GH, he was back on contract until his passing.
The only other soap star that got it good vs Phelps was the legendary Beverlee McKinsey. Phelps, then at GL wasn’t aware of an out clause in BM’s contract and didn’t address many of BM’s concerns, so she quit the day before an 8 week vacation that ended with her out clause.
Kristina Wagner also stuck it to Phelps to a smaller degree.
You said Jill Phelps. Now cross yourself and say five Robin Strassers, we should be safe.
Oh Harry – I really chuckled on that one.
I loved him on Y&R, until they changed courses & gave him a dull storyline, so I’m thrilled.
He’s a hotty, never seen him before, but i’m looking foward to his debut, and interesing his YR mom is Monica deceased daughter and would be Michaels Aunt.
Glad “Michael” has returned. I’m haven’t seen Friday’s episode yet but am looking forward to seeing what this new Michael will bring to the show. Best Wishes to Rory.
0oooh mercy— My eyes struggle to line up with his eyes…
His eyes are very far apart and are not fully open…
When on Y&R I needed to blink trying to focus on him…0ooh well..
It has nothing to do with his looks, he is handsome and a good actor, just hard to look at his eyes lol ..
I have not seen the NB stuff, etc–been too busy to watch but will catch up..
I will miss Chad Duell—
The world moves on every second of every day, nothing stays the same..
I will adjust– looking forward to having a Michael back–
Sorry I’m not feeling this recast Michael the actor is too Grimm for the role.
You’re judging after barely one scene? Come on…
Exactly. One scene. And all these opinions
He’s 10 years older than Carly his mother
Finally hope he beat Drews as to death. And her dumb as Willow should be all alone by herself sitting in a jail cell beside Drew. Give Michael and Carly those children and keep on moving. Brooklyn and Dante finally here time for Lois to tell the truth.
I wasn’t familiar with Rory but just from his short entrance scene I’m already impressed! Great looking and a fantastic speaking voice. He actually looks a bit like a cross between Dom Zamorogna and Billy Warlock to me. I think they should make his hair lighter…ala his bio family: AJ, Carly, Joss, Wiley, Jason, Danny…but if we think of Billy Warlock’s AJ it’s a good fit “resemblance-wise.”

On the Friday, May 8 Mother’s Day episode of The Price is Right, a retired veteran won over $240,000 in cash and prizes making her takeaway the largest prize ever won in a single pricing game in the 54-year history of the daytime version of the CBS game show.
The contestant, “Vanesa from Virginia” bested the previous record of $210,000 in a single pricing game of Cliffhangers set over a decade ago in 2016. The moment occurred when Vanesa played “The Lion’s Share,” the new high,” the new high-stakes branded game that debuted this season through a partnership with BetMGM.
In the game, contestants have to guess the prices of grocery items to earn up to five balls. Each ball is then dropped into a wind tunnel, revealing a hidden prize amount. After each reveal, contestants face a tense decision to walk away with their current winnings or risk it all to continue.

Vanesa went for the gusto! She didn’t hesitate and pushed forward through every round, ultimately revealing the prizes for all five balls, winning $227,500 in cash and a luxury trip for two to Morocco valued at $12,650. Those impressive winning amounted to $240,150 as her daughter cheered her on from the audience.
According to BetMGM and TPIR producers, Fremantle, “The Lion’s Share” is the first custom-branded game in the show’s history, and the first new pricing game on the show since 2021. BetMGM and Fremantle sealed a multi-year deal last year that lends The Price is Right and Family Feud intellectual property (IP) rights for slots, table games and non-traditional casino games.
The Price is Right is broadcast weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount+* (11:00 AM-12:00 PM, ET/10:00-11:00 AM, PT). John Quinn is the executive producer. Drew Carey is the host.

DAYS Lauren Koslow Temporarily Fills-In for Jess Walton as ‘The Young and the Restless’ Jill Abbott
In a ironic twist, Lauren Koslow, who currently plays Kate Roberts on Days of Our Lives is returning to The Young and the Restless to play Jill Abbott while temporarily filling in for Jess Walton. Koslow will appear for five episodes beginning on Thursday, June 25.
Koslow first appeared on The Young and the Restless back in 1984 in what was her first soap opera role when she was cast as Lindsey Wells. Now, she returns decades later subbing for Walton, who due to a scheduling conflict, was was unable to travel to Los Angeles when the storyline called for Jill. The Emmy-winning Walton has played the Jill since 1987 and went on recurring status with the show in 2012. Jess also left Los Angeles to reside in Oregon in 2011.
Making this all the richer was the original Jill played by Brenda Dickson, often shared scenes with Koslow’s Y&R character. Lauren played Lindsey Wells until 1986, before moving over to The Bold and the Beautiful as Margo Lynley. Koslow was B&B’s Margo from 1987–1992, and again in 2002. Then, in 1996, she was cast on Days of Our Lives as Kate Roberts, replacing Deborah Adair, and she has been in Salem ever since. But there’s still another another twist to this casting history. Y&R viewers recall Deborah Adair also played Jill, after Brenda Dickson left in 1980, and following a brief stint by Bond Gideon, before heading to DAYS to originate the role of Kate.

THE DAYS AND Y&R CONNECTION
As soap fans know, Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless are both part of Sony. Y&R is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company in association with Sony Pictures Television, while DAYS is owned by Corday Productions and distributed by Sony.
So, having Koslow visit The Young and the Restless to fill in for Jess Walton has nothing to do with her continued role of Kate on DAYS. In fact, a rep for the show shared that her upcoming appearance on Y&R, “does not affect her status with the show in any way.” Recently, Stacy Haiduk reprised her role of Patty Williams on Y&R, even though she is still being seen as Kristen DiMera on DAYS.
In a joint statement offered up to TV Insider, executive producer, Sally McDonald and head writer, Josh Griffith expressed, “We’re extremely grateful to Lauren Koslow for returning to her Y&R roots and temporarily stepping into the role of Jill. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Ken Corday (executive producer) and Noel Maxam (co-executive producer) at Days of Our Lives and Peacock. Their support embodies the collaborative spirit of the daytime television community.”
McDonald and Griffith clarified that Jess Walton is forever their Jill and shared, “Jess Walton is an enduring cornerstone of Y&R. We look forward to welcoming her back to Genoa City as her schedule permits and celebrating her extraordinary 40th anniversary as the iconic Jill Abbott.”
So, what do you think of Days of Our Lives Lauren Koslow stepping in for Jess Walton as Jill Abbott? Excited to see what she does in the role while filling in for the Jess? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
