There are some big changes afoot at General Hospital over the summer, and one of the biggest ones was revealed by the series Daytime Emmy- winning executive producer, Frank Valentini.

After winning the series fourth consecutive Outstanding Daytime Drama Series award, and 17th overall in the history of the 61-year-old soap opera, Valentini spoke with ABC 7’s On the Red Carpet at the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

When asked what to expect coming up, the exec dropped a bombshell. Valentini shared, “A former cast member is coming back. And I think that the audience will go crazy for HIM.”

Now. speculation is running rampant of just who could it be! Is it possible that Jonathan Jackson will reprise his five-time Daytime Emmy-winning role of Lucky Spencer? Still others have thought it could actually be Greg Vaughan (because he may have wrapped his run on Days of our Lives months ago, along with Arianne Zucker, who departs later this summer on-screen) reprising the role of Lucky.

Photos: ABC and IMDb

Could Valentini being referring to the return of John J. York as Mac Scorpio; who had to exit the series to undergo treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes and multiple smoldering myeloma (two blood and bone marrow disorders), but who recently returned a month ago to the set? Or, might it be the return of two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Bryan Craig, as a now very much alive Morgan Corinthos? Fans are also wondering if GH somehow lured Nicholas Chavez back to the role of Spencer Cassadine; a role he vacated at the beginning of this year to film his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology series as convicted murderer Lyle Mendenez.

In addition, Steve Burton (Jason), Kate Mansi (Kristina), and GH head writer, Elizabeth Korte, also shared some storyline intel with On the Red Carpet of what lies ahead through the summer months for Jason, Kristina, and all of the Davis women.

Watch the entire video package below.

Now weigh-in, which male actor is returning to General Hospital? Who do you hope it will be? Share your theories via the comment section.

I have a feeling it’s going to be John J. York’s long-awaited return as Mac Scorpio!!

But JJY isn’t a former cast member. He’s still in the opening credits!

That’s interesting but John J York wouldn’t have been a “former” casemate. He just took a sabbatical.

I think your right about it. Missing him a lot from the show.

Mac was announced on May 10th and has already started taping shows. This is someone who is unknown. Valenti would not tease with something he already put out there in an announcement.

Since we already know John J York is returning, could it be Johnathan Jackson or possibly Roger Howarth returning to GH. Both would be great to see back on GH.

I Agree!

I wasn’t thinking Jerry Jacks, or day I say it, Antonio Sabato Jr as Jagger. I don’t see Johnathan Jackson returning.

Sabato? lol. Can guarantee that’s not happening.

Sabato will never be asked back. Just as well, nuJagger has made the role his own.

New Jagger is terrible and just ewwww. Antonio Sabato Jr. IS Jagger and Betty easy on the eyes.

How do I put this delicately…Sabato USED TO BE gorgeous. And though HE thinks he’s the only one capable of playing Jagger, (he’s made a big deal of it on whatever platform he’s one) as if soaps have never recast before, he’s not. Had he been a more stable person, who didn’t spew crap out Valentini on X/Twitter, maybe he would have been asked back. I don’t follow him unless I want to be entertained my his delusions of grandeur, but I did see one Tweet where he told Ingo “Frank what’s his face should be fired.” I’m not sure if that’s verbatim but that was the gist, and I believe that was before they recast Jagger. Needless to say, as long as Frank is there he’ll never be asked back. I’m not sure anyone would hire him back.

As for nuJagger? I look at him the same as when Billy Miller was recast as Jason, Cameron Mathison as Drew. They’re nothing like the original actors and the characters aren’t even written the same way. So after a while I just look at them as new characters, and it works for me after I put out of my mind who they’re supposed to be. Cameron will never be Drew to me; there’s nothing about the way the character is written that is “Drew.” He should have been brought on as a new character and then I think he would’ve been accepted from the start. But now that they made Drew stronger, tougher, more aggressive and not a Carly lapdog 2.0, I’m enjoying him, not as “Drew” but as a character with the same name. As for nuJagger, I don’t care if he’s “Jagger” or not because other than remembering how hot Jagger was decades ago, I don’t even remember the character of the character anymore so I’m fine with the new actor, who is to me “easy on the eyes.” I do think, though, that he should have been brought as a new character; not sure why they felt a need for him to be Jagger unless his story continues and it becomes relevant.

I agree on Cameron never being “Drew” in my mind too. I like Cameron tons and wish he’d do the GH “leave for awhile then return as someone new” trick.

I would have agreed with that months ago when he was dating Carly and all his stories were tied up with her, Willow, and Michael; it was a disaster. But now that he’s broken from Carly, I’m hoping that he and Nina actually fall for each other. I know they’ve been testing him with Jordan as well, but I think the possibilities for soapy drama with a Drew/Nina relationship offer a lot more in terms of story and Quartermaine divided loyalties, etc, especially if it ever came down to Jason and Carly vs Drew and Nina, with Michael taking one stand and possibly, if Willow EVER become close to her mother, stands with Nina and Drew. The Quartermaines have already been made almost extinct; having half the town live in their house doesn’t equal Quartermaines; I hate what the writers are doing. That house needs to bring back some actual Qs. And where is Ned? Jane Elliot and Rena So far are back and he should be having scenes with them…

Roger please!!!

Right we know John York is on his way back so really hope Bryan Craig could come back as Morgan that would really shock Carly & Sonny
Maybe Johnathan Jackson Lucky Spencer & Lulu would be great to come out of coma. So many of the those actors would be great for a comeback as are all a big part of GH families. If Roger Howorth was to return to GH might he be Todd?
Would Kassie DePavia Blair come back too we saw her as Martin Grey’s ex. Oh it would be nice to see Michael Knight back maybe throw him in with Alexis & Diane lol.

I would love it to be Ryan Pavey!

I’m hoping GH realized their mistake and rehired Roger.

I hope it was the plan all along to bring Todd back

Yes! Bring Roger back as Todd Manning himself. He can buy The Invader, kick out Nina and the stupid gossip columnist, take over Alexis’s position after she gets her law license back. Todd can be both publisher and editor!!

I would love to lucky and Morgan back on GH

Oh yes Penny let Roger come back as a 4th character who gets killed in 2 years,, etc etc etc etc.. Ohh I’m dizzy

With school out, could it be William Lipton returning as Cameron?

Although his last return left a bad taste in his mouth, could Frisco be making a return to wrap up the Pikeman storyline?

Still don’t think it’s Morgan nor Lucky. And please, not another character (unless it’s Todd) for Roger.

We already knew Mac was back on the set and that’s a good thing but not exactly a “bombshell”.

Lucky Spencer or Morgan Corinthos would be huge returns right now. Morgan especially could play a big part in helping his dad Sonny get his mind functioning properly again.

And Elizabeth seems to be done with Finn so that would be a perfect time for her “one true love” Lucky to find his way home

And of course there’s always the fact that the whole Pikeman story seemed like it was written around a Lorenzo Alcazar comeback from day one. They have tried to bait & switch their way out of that for a while but it’s not working well at all. Maybe Frank finally had that long rumored meeting with Ted King and got him to sign a contract?

But hasn’t Valentin been revealed to be the head of Pikeman? How would Alcazar fit into that scheme?

Pikeman is doing exactly what both of the Alcazar brothers tried to do for years – smuggling weapons through Sonny’s territory. Of course Sonny always refused their offers before.

Why didn’t he do so this time? Well, it might have something to do with Nina turning his brain into mush after Tricky Dick Nixon Falls, and the fact that Jason wasn’t around to give him proper advice on “business” matters.

Now Jason is back,of course. But the currently unmedicated Sonny refuses to listen to him.

And there’s also the matter of Nina selling Wyndemere to an “unknown buyer”. Doesn’t make sense that Valentin would be this buyer. He’s a Cassadine, so nobody would question his motive for wanting a property that had belonged to the family for decades, so he would have openly made an offer to Ava. Also, he just bought a house on his own, where he was expecting Anna to live with him, before the unfortunate tarot card brainwashing incidents with Charlotte.

Alcazar, on the other horn, is an international arms smuggling fugitve who is officially still “dead” (though I can say on the record that he was never in Hell) . He’s exactly the type of person who would want to live in a literal castle with it’s own island for privacy & security reasons.

My theory is that Brennan & Valentin were brought in as a “bait and switch” when they couldn’t get Ted King on contract for whatever reason. But if that situation was resolved, then why not reset the story the way it was originally intended? And Morgan Corinthos could be part of that story as well, if Alcazar had somehow found Morgan when he was injured after the Jerome Family Project car bombing. It’s always possible that Morgan might have had head injuries similar to those that Jason had in 1996, which would explain why he’s made no attempt to contact his family in the several years that have passed since the bombing.

Also, Jason somehow being aware of Morgan’s location and Alcazar’s involvement in it, would have made a far better reason for his involuntary service in the FBI than some bogus “RICO charges” against Carly, who has never committed any crimes remotely worthy of a RICO investigation, and was a mob figurehead for exactly one meeting of the “Five Families” when she filled in for the absent and presumed “dead” Sonny.

So are you saying that these RICO charges against Carly are just bogus and actually a smoke screen or red herring , as they say to protect Morgan , which Jason has been doing?
It certainly makes more sense than all that RICO crap. I don’t understand it and I bet a lot of others don’t either.

RICO charges are usually aimed at the mob. Carly was never involved in Sonny’s business, and though there was a question among the mob world of whether she or Jason had taken over the business while Sonny was thought to be “dead”, there really wasn’t any mob business conducted during that time, except for the one meeting of the “Five Families” Carly attended as the figurehead of the Corinthos Organization. And she only did that because Jason had been shot while on the run from bogus murder charges in Frodd’s death, after being framed by Whiny Heiny.

There weren’t any actual crimes committed during the course of that meeting, so basically Carly just had a conversation with 4 other people. There’s nothing there that any judge or jury could get a conviction out of.

And of course this has nothing to do with the alleged “insider trading” case, because that happened months after Jason’s supposed “death” so NuJagger couldn’t have used it for leverage. Also, that case was already tried and Carly paid heavy financial penalties for it, so she couldn’t be tried again in any event.

There wasn’t any mob business conducted during that time? Mobs are based on a protection racket. We can safely assume Carly was collecting the dirty money coming in whether we saw it or not. The mob doesn’t just “stop conducting business,” lol.

Assuming there are routine payments made to the mob on a regular basis, monthly, quarterly or however it is, those “clients” would have probably kept paying how every they normally would without Carly having any involvement in it, Jason was running the business from what I remember, and tried to keep Carly out of it, until the legal & medical complications forced on him by being framed for Frodd’s murder made it necessary for Carly to attend that one meeting with the Five Families. She was there to put on appearances for the other mob families, not to make a public declaration of herself as the “new CEO” of Corinthos Coffee, LLC.

And of course, when some of the other mobsters insisted that either Jason OR Carly had to be in charge and one should kill the other to leave no doubt who was in charge, they decided instead to get married to symbolize a united front. And then Sonny comes home right after the wedding, voiding the whole thing anyway.

Is the “mod activity” on GH based on “real mod activity” ? I would doubt that, but honestly have no clue as to “real mob activity”

If this turns out to be the case, I will give you a standing ovation for constantly pushing this theory. Otherwise, the only thing missing from your copy/paste is the term “toilet spiral”.

Well, the toilet spiral supposedly ended in March. Though it was replaced by something else that can’t really be called an improvement yet, Maybe they’ll get there soon? Seems like the anti-Sonny hysteria has been toned down a little bit, at least. Except for TJ. Not sure what his problem is.

Nathan west for sure

Where would that leave Spinelli? 🙁

As a very rarely appearing recuring I fear

He probably makes more money doing shitty Hallmark movies.

I hope so

I really hope it Morgan that’ll be back please say it’s him

I would love to see Bryan Craig return. Morgan needs to come back. Wonderful, Wonderful actor. As far as Elizabeth, she needs to stand by Finn. He has done a lot for her. I know it’s not easy, but he deserves a little bit of time, love and devotion.

She was wrong she needs to be with him

Agree 100%

Longtime viewers saw Elizabeth deal with substance abuse when she was with Lucky. Spoliers have Finn’s downfall going further.

Not an excuse. Finn stood by her through her everything including her idiotic declarations that he was “overstepping her boundaries” when he tried to see her when she committed herself, or help her. He slept on her couch, he stood by her when he found out she burned down Franco’s studio, stalked herself, conked Chase over the head, wrote herself menacing letters. He never once told her he was taking the boys from her because she was a danger to them. He never once judged her or spoke down to her.

She didn’t show one iota of compassion when she found out Gregory died. As soon as she walked into his apt, she went straight to Violet, then hugged Finn and upon discovering the bottle went into instant scowl and demand mode. It was as if she didn’t know his father had literally just died, that he was in utter despair. She was a witch. Contrast her to Alexis, Brook Lynn, Tracy, Chase, all those who are concerned for him; they’re strategizing how to help him and keep Violet safe. Each showed compassion; Alexis held him, cried with him, told him he wasn’t alone. Told him his slip was understandable; not to be hard on himself. Elizabeth? She lectured, she judged, and told him she was aghast at how he spoke to her!!!! OMG; Can’t stand her.

I can’t stand Elizabeth neither. I hate her more than Carly or Willow now!(Lol) And that’s saying a lot! Wish they hadn’t given Gregory a disease to die from. He was brilliant with Tracy. GH seems to keep killing off their best actors.
I’ve a few ideas of who should be killed off, but that’s for another day.

Finn the worst actor. Those mouth gestures.

Wow, I dislike the horrible rug burning Nina. I personally wouldn’t hate someone fictional!

AGREE,AGREE.AGREE! Wish I had something to add, but you said it all. Never could stand that little witch!

You’re forgetting that Elizabeth stood by Finn through the ridiculous Peter presumed dead from Finn pushing him down the stairs from the roof and helping him hide the not-dead body.

Their relationship was on rocky ground for some time. Let’s face it – there was never explosive chemistry between the two.

Like most characters, Elizabeth is flawed, but she’s a Hardy and a Webber – can’t get much more of a legacy character than that.

Let’s all get together and get her a medal!

Oh Violet – you do love to go against the grain. First, your dislike of Tracy, now Elizabeth. Bet there’s a few child characters that rub you the wrong way.

Not any kids that I can think of right now, but there sure are some weird adults.

LOL that was like a Lucy and Ethel story arc. Peter in the freezer; then I guess he thawed out & liquefied to the point he was able to slither out of the box. They weren’t a couple back then if I recall. It was one of those never-ending will-they-ever-get-together romances that the last writing regime tortured us with. But that was a race to save Chase’s life; it wasn’t so much as standing by Finn (though she did) as much as him being free to come up with a cure for Chase. But now? When he’s in utter despair? She was totally devoid of emotion; she didn’t even shed a tear for Gregory.

Elizabeth is human. She is a Mom and Aunt of children that needs her to be firm and steady. I Love Her! Issue her and Finn should be friends not lovers. I Love Finn too but as a Doctor he knows about the end result of Gregory’s illness. He also knows on so many levels the importance of his sobriety professionally and to his daughter Violet. She could have dealt with him differently due to her history with addiction (Lucky) she has different insight.

Yes; and humans, especially friends and lovers should stand by each other through good and bad. He’s grieving. He’s in emotional pain. And, yes, he knew his father was dying, but that’s the point. He abandoned his father for 20 years and he is now living with that regret; he can’t get back that time and the future was taken from them. He’s a doctor, but he couldn’t save his father. He knew is father would pass, but Gregory’s passing was immediate and unexpected. Al of these things are adding to the loss: guilt, regret, emotional trauma. And those feelings of despair made him vulnerable to his addiction.

Liz was his girlfriend. Her immediate response on seeing that bottle should have been concern she kept to herself in that moment; she should have instead let him feel her love and support.
She should have held him, let him get out his feelings, his despair. She should have let him know he and Violet were not alone. She should have found words of comfort to counter his guilt; let him know that his father loved him and that he forgave Finn the years away. Etc, etc. Instead, she scowled, she judged, she demanded. She handled it all wrong, and that had the audacity to say she couldn’t believe the way he spoke to her. LOL. This coming from the woman who was nasty and unappreciative to him the entire time she was having a breakdown, was a possible danger to her own kids since she seemed to be having some kind of split personality where she did things and lost time, and yet Finn stayed by her side even as she told him to leave her alone and respect her “boundaries.” Her boundaries? The man loved her and she was a dangerous menace; he tried to protect her and her sons.

Of course Finn knows the dangers of his addiction; but when in the throes of it he can’t help himself, which is why he needed her love and support. Alexis got that during her struggle; AJ never did.

Anyway, I hope Michael Easton isn’t leaving and they give Finn a relationship with someone much more emotionally available.

As far as I’m concerned, he can do a lot better than Liz. He’s stood by her so much, that he needs a break, maybe she can find another sucker to hold her hand for a while.

And Finn go back to his lizard (who apparently is in the vortex with Liesl, Taggert, Brad and Phyllis).

I hope it is Roger Howarth, this time as Todd Manning.

Absolutely. Without the Prospect Park debacle, he would still be there as Todd

I agree

I would love to see Roger Howarth back!!

Franco Baldwin

Where is Scottie Baldwin. One of the originals!!!! He and Lucy ?

I love Scott, but he’s always in hot water, or falling for the wrong woman, especially Lucy whom I hope we don’t see in a long while. I had hopes for him and Dr.O, too bad that didn’t work out.

I’d love to see Ric, Morgan, Dillion or Lucky. I just don’t think that JJ is leaving Ireland for GH. I also don’t think it’s Roger H. because based on how there has been ZERO follow up on Austin’s murder—ABC seems to be completely done with him.

ABC may be done with the character but not Roger. They would be silly not to put him back where he always should have been.

Sure agree with you, they really lost a great talent when he left GL., especially as Franco, they hit the Jackpot with his character and portrayal.

No follow up on Austin’s murder leaves the door open for his return.

I hope it’s LUCKY

Bring Morgan home, love him. Stop the fight between Jason and Sonny.

Yes bring back Morgan

Let him be the other reason Jason came back to figure out how to unravel his alleged death.

Mac should return so Cody can come clean and mac can claim his son. GH has to many irons in the fire that needs to be put out. Why do you keep on with Drew and Nina. This makes Drew look dumb in his story line. Please don’t drag out this pitiful Drunk Finn drama.

Nina needs to gooooooo

I have enjoyed watching Nina since her break up with Sonny.

Nina (and better writing) has done the near impossible – make CM’s version of Drew kind of interesting.

Luke

Would love to see Luke.

Yes..Luke was awesome when he was on the show. He teamed well with Anna and all the cast members.

YES!! That would be great for Tracy!!

Blackie?
I’m sick of Davis sisters. I turn the volume down when they speak.

Me to

Oh lord yes and the og holier than thou Alexis !! Buh Bye would be so celebrated

Sounds like you have a problem with Nancy Lee Grahn; not “Alexis.” Same for a lot of you, and most of us know why.

You are the ONLY one that ever goes there! Talk about SOAPS!

Me too!

Why? What bothers you about them? Alexis been in show forever and those kids of hers have been also. All the characters age and new ones will eventually need to take the lead. That’s the Davis family I personally have no issue at all with them. Can’t just kill off 3 daughters. Lol I find Joss obnoxious at times, but same can’t just get rid of Carlys kids. All the kids will age and take the lead some day.

I completely agree!

I heard their almost did kill off Molly during the Molly-go-round of actress playing her. I think this latest one is good and fits well in the family so I am glad they didn’t

Bonus points for “Molly-go-round”. Extremely clever.

We need the Real Davis Sister’s virtually impossible now.

Yawn. Steve Burton came back, and after an hour and a half, nobody cared. Some of the guesses here in the comments are, frankly, laughable: NOBODY is going to go crazy for Cameron, Morgan or Roger Howarth’s 18th return

Right…im still devastated over the 3 real deaths of some of my faves…dig deep and bring back that gorgeous mobster…with Steve back that will give him something to do…

Rebecca Budig is returning as Hayden because Violet misses her mother terribly.

Oh please she’s yes yesterday’s mashed potatoes

Violet hasn’t mentioned Hayden in years. Budig is unlikely to return after the way she was dispatched in both of her most recent visits.

I bet that either the ” concerned” Auntie Liz or Uncle Chase will somehow contact Heyden to come rescue poor Violet from her father’s drunken clutches.

My guess is Roger Howarth.

I would love for Lucky to return but doesn’t Genie go on hiatus for a couple of months during the summer? It would be challenging to have him return while his mother is out of town unless Laura’s storyline brings her to finding him. The fact that all of Laura’s children are off canvas doesn’t make any sense, yet she is caring for Ace.

I would love to see the return of Bryan Craig as Morgan.

I also have a soft spot for Roger, though the character of Austin did not work from the beginning.

We already know about the return of Mac/John J York so that will not be the surprise.

And if Nathan could rise from the dead, I would 100% support that though I believe that Ryan Paevey has a very successful career on Hallmark, or is it Lifetime?

Regardless, seems Liz is done with Finn. Would love for a Hayden return. Violet needs her mom, as does her father. And the fireworks between Liz and Hayden could drive some good storyline.

But it indicated that it is a HIM.

Yes, Genie typically tapes through June (with Laura appearing into early August). Some years she’s back on screen in October, others November. Although Laura needs an (adult) child on screen, I doubt they’d have one return and ship her out of town for a few months.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was Spencer!seeing that Trina is ga ga over geio the pool guy?that would make quite a storyline…just saying

I hope it is Spencer–Nac, Trina is not gaga over Gio, he reminded her of Spencer!

Spencer is a very gifted actor. Fun comfortable in front of camera. Trina needs a hair cut.
I can’t keep track of how and how many sonny has. They are related.
Ava got away with killing her husband..
Weird.

What are you talking about?

Well, she sure was Gaga while she mooned over his Violin at Ava’s gallerÿ today.

As long a Kate Mansi aka Kristina stay on the show. This return doesn’t matter to me

I doubt it would be Jonathan Jackson; he’s more into his music career and his other pursuits. John York? We know he’s coming back and thank G-d he’s on his way to recovery. Always a fan favorite. I hope they finally give him airtime; he was cheated for years when he was slowly booted from the show. I hope he’s well enough to be onscreen more. Adore him…

I hope it’s not Bryan Craig. I loved Morgan and I think Bryan’s a great actor. But I have no desire to see Carly have her son back. She cost AJ his son, she tried to keep Nina from ever knowing Willow is her child, she tried to possess Avery and take her further and further away from Ava, so it’s a no from me for Carly to have yet another child back in her clan.

I could see Greg Vaughn or Jacob Young reprising the role.

I think many would be happy to see Marcus back as Nikolas.

I for one would love to see see Sean Kanan back as AJ. (and yes, I know AJ died.
Don’t care. They can work some soapy magic.)

I would actually send AJ back up again if they asked me to. But as long as Sean Kanan is on the CBS soaps it’s not likely. Nobody wants to see Billy Warlock’s version of AJ again.

I liked both as AJ gave different dimensions to the character.

So many great characters and actors to choose from.
Ric Hearst could come back to help Sonny.
Franco could really be alive to come back to Elizabeth
Would love to see Marcus come back as Nicholas. Dont like new guy Adam in that role.
Luke to come back and help Tracy thru lost potential love Gregory.miss Gregory Harrison!

Anthony Geary is not coming back; he’s said he’s not over and over again. He retired years ago and lives in another country; Amsterdam. If for some reason he did make a cameo appearance, he’d a ghost or an imagining in Tracy’s mind. For him to be alive would mean Tracy would leave with him and we’d lose Jane Elliott again…

I do love the idea of Ric Hearst coming back. Loved him as Rick and have been wondering why they booted the character and the actor off the show years ago.

I like any of the actors mentioned coming back and I much prefer Marcus to Adam he is just not very Cassidine.

What about bringing back Jax? We miss ingo

LOL.

Never should they bring Jax back. He sued ABC and lost then brought another lawsuit. Steve Burton left with dignity. Ingo left with revenge and hate. Ingo thinks he is entitled. Go back to Australia Ingo.

No, we don’t. And THAT will never happen.

No we don’t.

they tapped that he died an Jos it going to be richer then Sonny .

Who is the “we” to which you’re referring? On a list of 100 possible returns, Ingo would come in 294th behind Casey the Alien and Richard Simmons.

If they were going to bring back Jax, they should have case the actor who plays Brennan as him. He would have fit the role very well.

I sound like a broken record but what a waste of talent to not use Kathleen Gati as Doctor Obrecht? Especially with all the stuff going on with Nina.

They need her back STAT!

I agree, bring back Obrecht, ever since she and Scott broke up and Britt died she is no where to be seen, Kathleen is a great actress and addition to the show!

I think the person Frank Valentini is talking about is Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

Eh It would be great if he returned but he’s been off for less than a year. So I dunno if it would be him as I’d feel it’s someone we’ve not seen in a long while. Some suggested Lucky which since it’s been what over 20 yrs. Last we saw him was when it was revealed Jake wasn’t really dead just being held by Helena. I doubt Jonathan Jackson would return so if it was Lucky maybe gh tapped Greg Vaughn to come back since he’s reported done at days to play Lucky. Some has said Morgan which I could see really great storyline there but I don’t see Bryan Craig returning. Someone suggested Rick Sonny’s brother and eh I dunno. Now Ted King coming back as one of his characters could be great. But I think it be great if maybe it’s someone that’s not dead or presumed dead. Maybe someone we’ve not seen in a really long while like someone whose been off canvas for maybe 20 years or longer. No one really comes to mind. But if it was short term maybe Blackie Parish played by John Stamos.

Chavez would only be returning right now if Ryan Murphy looked at the outtakes from the Menendez series and said “kid, stick to the soaps”. Chavez has great potential and we’ve likely seen the last of him in daytime.

I hope it’s not Roger Howarth again. He’s had enough GH personalities

Could it be Jax? I’d go crazy for Ingo.

Ingo burned too many bridges

What about Lulu I’d rather have Emme Ryland back than a male actor. What about Nicholas and Julian? They have brought up Julian A lot lately. That would certainly shake up the Davis family. It would also give Ava opportunity’s as well.

I want it to be Nicholas Alexander Chavez! I watched all the time when Spencer was with Trina. I love them! He is an amazing actor!

I agree!! I’d be thrilled!

I Hope Roger Howarth Returns As Todd Manning

I’m hoping it’s Nicholas Chavez. We all know John J York is back on set, but the return of Spencer would help ratings.

I hope it’s Spencer. I love him and was so sad to see him leave.

I would love to see the return of Lotenzo Alcazar return to Port Charles.

I would love to see Lorenzo back. He was such a hottie.. and I never ever missed a show with him on it.

I would LOVE to see JJ back as Lucky, but I think he’s pretty busy with other projects. Nothing against Greg Vaughn, but he was just never Lucky to me.
Others I’d love to see are Scott Reeves as Dr. Steven Lars Weber. Bout time he got out of prison, and Liz could use her big bro right now. Heather would love to see him, too.
Or how about William DeVry as Julian? NAC as Spencer? Ryan Carnes as Lucas? Roger Howarth as ANYBODY? Ted King as Alcazar? Rick Hearst as Ric? Perry Shen as Brad?
BUT, please don’t let it be Bryan Craig as Morgan, or Sebastian Roche as Jerry Jacks, or Ingo Rademacher as Jax, or Wes Ramsey as Peter…(maybe a different character?)
It could be any of them, or someone we haven’t even thought of. Hope we find out soon.

Heiny is NEVER leaving Hell again. And I doubt Jerry Jacks will ever return again since he only showed up in Port Charles when his brother was around… and we all know why Jax is gone forever.

I’m willing to make a deal with regards to Julian coming back up. Maybe I will trade him for his sister Ava?

Your mention of Scott Reeves really got my attention. I have always liked him and felt that Dr. Steven Weber got way too long of a prison term.

The only person to ever actually serve a term.

Actually add Matt Hunter, Blackie Parrish and (until she was killed) Olivia Jerome to that list.

Hard to believe Blackie Parrish would still be in prison 40 years later for what was really just a tragic accident. Poor girl fell and hit her head on a table, there was no murder there. Blackie just felt guilty about it.

He wouldn’t still be incarcerated, just apparently served his full term and was released. Think they teased Blackie appearing at the 50th anniversary Nurses Ball, but Stamos couldn’t make it.

Certainly far more deserving of a release from prison than his psycho serial killer mother!

My first three thoughts were Jonathan Jackson, Bryan Craig, and Nicholas Chavez… any of their returns would cause fans to go crazy. Since John York’s return was already announced, I doubt it’s him. Ditto for Roger Howarth who I don’t see coming back. Could it be Tony Geary to reveal that Luke is alive? Ted King resurrecting Alcazar? John Stamos returning to his soap roots as Blackie? The sky is the limit!

Pleas let it be Jonathan Jackson I will start watching again

I wouldn’t think it would be John J. York, because everyone knows he’s coming back and he wasn’t a former cast member. He was on medical leave. I would love for it to be Jonathan Jackson, but highly doubt it as he lives in Ireland now. I think it’s Roger Howarth coming back. Everybody loves him and was upset when he left the show but just who he’s coming back as is anyone’s guess. Could be Ryan Pavey

Ryan seems to be doing quite well in the Hallmark movie genre. He hasn’t had many nice things to say about the soap world since departing.

He is no longer doing Hallmark at present per Pavey himself.

It would be nice to see Taggert back on screen. Maybe he could get involved with Curtis Wellness venture, or work undercover for Anna to nail Valentine

Taggert has been mentioned many times. He just kind of disappeared when I thought he’d put up more of a fight to prove he was Trina’s dad.

Roger harworth!!!! Please please

I hope its Jonathan Jackson!

I hope Morgan corinthos and Bryan Craig or either Greg Vaughan as lucky Spencer over All of the others

Maybe it’s Frisco!

I’m hoping it’s Morgan Corinthos

I hope it’s lucky or morgan

Bring back Morgan

Roger Howarth !

If GH does what I hope they will do bringing Mac back with a rescue mission – we might see Frisco.

The timing is perfect for Jack Wagner to come back for a short stint.

Two ideas I can think of are Jack Wagner and Anthony Geary.

Although I’m sure it’s female, but Finn sure could use Roxy the lizard right now.

They said it’s a MALE character

Now that you mention it, I haven’t heard her name mentioned since Finn was staying with Anna.

Hayden Panettiere Remembered: ‘Guiding Light’ and More Stars Mourn Her Loss in Wake of Tragic Death

Hayden Panettiere

Tributes continue to pour in from the entertainment and soap opera community, and especially from former co-stars of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36.

Panetierre was best-known to soap fans for her roles as as a young Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light and Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live, and as an adult in ABC’s music city primetime soap opera, Nashville where she starred as Juliette Barnes opposite General Hospital alum, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky, GH and ex-Avery, Nashville).

As previously reported, Panettiere died on Sunday afternoon, August 16 in a home in Greenville, South Carolina. The coroner released an official statement on Monday, which read in part “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” First responders rushed to the scene after a 911 call about a woman who was unresponsive from an overdose and in cardiac arrest.

Now below, check out some of the heartfelt remembrances for the extraordinarily talented, Hayden Panettiere from several of her Guiding Light co-stars and more. Michael Fairman TV will continue to add to the list of tributes throughout the next few days as they become available, as well as keep you updated on any further developments in Panettiere’s death.

Beth Chamberlin (Beth Raines, GL): “Hayden played my daughter for 3 years. She was the most brilliant child actor I’ve ever seen.  The things she could do, the way she could remember 20+ pages of dialogue, day after day.  Even on days where the director would come out between dress and tape and make huge cuts to the scenes, Hayden, never once forgot a line or missed her blocking.  The adults would, but not Hayden.  I felt blessed to work with her. And always perfect in her playing of the scene.”

Connie Britton (Rayna James, Nashville): “This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak.
I love you girl. Sleep easy now. 💔”

Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines, GL): “Hayden Panettiere was my granddaughter on Guiding Light. She died at 36 and was such a star.”

Rebecca Budig (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL, now Taylor, B&B): “I remember working alongside her..loved her and her family. She and Beth were spectacular together. So sad for her family and those who knew and loved her.”

Karla Mosley: (Dani Dupree, BTG) “This is awful awful news. Blessings to her soul and all who loved her.”

Bethany Joy Lenz: (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL) “There is nothing that posting pictures on the internet can do. I avoid it usually in moments like this. But Im here with my head in my hands and I don’t know what else to do in aside from praying for her soul, which I have done and will continue. I’m crushed. I knew the wild little blonde. Was she nine? Ten? I was eighteen. She ran through the Screen Gem studio hallways at 222 E44th St. laughing and playing games in between Guiding Light blocking and camera rehearsals. Long, unruly curls trailing behind her. She knew her lines and everyone else’s. Her intelligence was astonishing. She understood scenes and nuance and human struggle like no child I’d ever seen on camera. And she’d sit with you for a great conversation, then giggle and go play. We’d connect on and off over the years, like the cousin in the family reunion who got famous and life moved her away—but I always felt such joy seeing her when we were lucky enough to cross paths. We’d make a pact to talk soon. Lunch. Dinner. Somewhere we could curl up into a corner—but we never quite made it happen. I mostly stayed up to date through mutual friends.”

Lenz continued, “I don’t understand how this is real. Everything seemed to be turning around. She was coming BACK to life, wasn’t she? It’s too young and there’s still so much more life. And her daughter…. Hayden, you are surround by love. I’m sorry for every moment I didn’t reach out or check in. This can’t be real. These are moments of how I knew you, in glimpses over 26 years. I don’t know how to process this. I am praying for you to know the peace of God now and always.”

Brittany Snow: (ex-Daisy Lemay, GL) “I was lucky enough to play your sister for 3 years. I related to you so much in so many ways. Ways that I never even told you. Your talent was remarkable & so was your determination to be a bold, bright shining light. And you were. Always supportive, curious, funny and brave. You will always be remembered undoubtedly for your undeniable strength and spirit 💔.”

Charles Esten, Hayden Panettiere

Charles Esten (ex-Deacon Clayborne, Nashville): Patty (Esten’s wife) and I are stunned and saddened at the loss of our dear and beautiful friend Hayden. I will never forget the first time I met her. In a sound stage office in Hollywood, I was finishing up my very first NASHVILLE audition. I had read two Deacon scenes before pulling out my guitar and singing two songs. I said my goodbyes and, hoping I’d done well, went to open the door to leave. Instead of swinging all the way out, the door bumped into somebody. Kinda hard.”

“To my complete surprise, It was Hayden Paniettiere, who – in full Juliette Barnes mode – had been listening with her ear to the door. Instead of looking even a little bit caught, her face instantly bloomed into the most beautiful smile. Eyes twinkling, she clapped her hands and said, “That was so good!!” I can promise you that in that moment, there was nothing in the world I needed to hear more than that. I told her that, along with my HEROES-watching family, I was already a big fan of hers, and that I was grateful for the very kind words. It was her turn to go in, so as I went to leave, I said a jokingly cocky, “See you on the set!”

“I was, of course, many auditions away from landing that incredible role. But when I finally did, and showed up in Nashville to start work, she walked right up to me, pointed in my face, and with that magical grin said, “See you on the set!” From there, we became fast friends, working very hard to play those 2 troubled Nashvillians, but always having fun and laughing a whole lot along the way. She was, of course, extraordinarily talented, infusing her larger-than-life character with all the heart, charisma, humor, whip-smart intelligence, and flat-out magic that were, alongside whatever troubles and pain she carried, a part of her own personal palette. What a great gift it was to act with her, sing with her, and to just be her friend. She was always extremely kind to my family, especially my wife, Patty, who I’m certain she liked even more than me.”

Together, we are heartbroken that she is gone, and praying for her family, and for all those who, like us, will miss and mourn her so dearly. God bless you, Hayden.
Rest In Peace and Light ❤️

Emme Rylan: (ex-Lizzie Spaulding, GL et al.)” So very sad. Rest in peace sweet soul.”

Bryan Craig: (ex-Morgan, GH) posted a text exchange via his Instagram story he had with Panettiere where they laughed about her making fun of his hat. He wrote: “Love you Hayden. Rest in peace Angel.” Craig later added, “Cherish the moments with people you love and care about. As cliche as it sounds. Send that text, get that cup of coffee, tell them you love them and you’re proud of them. You may not get the chance again.”

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Published

on

By

John Oliver

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.

As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.

Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named  Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES

On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.

Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).

He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

Photo: ABC

SECOND STOP, SALEM

Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”

Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”

DEVLIN’S WIG

The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

Photo: Corday Productions

“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.

JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN

The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”

As he ended his recap, Oliver thanked both soaps for playing along, and noting that neither DAYS or GH actually killed him off! Could a John Oliver return happen down the line? Stay tuned.

Watch John detail his soap dreams come to life on General Hospital and then Days of our Lives below.

Now let us know, what did you think of the performances of John Oliver on General Hospital and Days of our Lives? Did you prefer one over the other or enjoy both of his guest arc visits? Could you see Oliver nominated in the Guest Performer category at next year’s Daytime Emmys, even for a 3-episode run on one of the soaps? Let us know in the comment section.
