General Hospital’s John J. York Reveals Potential Transplant Donor: “I Believe They Found a Match”

Photo: ABC

Promising news for General Hospital’s John J. York (Mac Scorpio). The actor who went public with his health battle shared Friday on Good Morning America that a life-saving blood stem cell transplant donor may have been located.

An emotional York told GMA, “I believe they found a match, perfect match, which will make me cry.  So we’re going to start our testing and do all that kind of stuff coming up here in about a week, and then I believe the transplant will happen, fingers crossed, in November.”

Through his association with the Be The Match organization, York located the now potential donor to help in his fight against myelodysplastic syndrome and multiple smoldering myeloma, two blood and bone marrow disorders. “

York went on to explain the difficulties he faced in trying to find a match: “Many of my family members were tested and most of them were 6 out of 12; apparently there’s markers that have to be reached. So they were on standby.”

When asked just what the GH fan favorite would want to say if given the opportunity to speak to the donor that appears to be a match, in tears, John expressed: “Thank you for saving my life. For letting me spend more time with my wife and my daughter and my son-in-law and my grandchildren and seeing this beautiful blue sky.”

John has played Mac Scorpio for 32 years and until recently had kept his battle with these two blood cancers private, but came forward to clarify why he is taking time away from GH, and how he is been trying to find a life-saving donor match.

Watch York’s segment from GMA below.

Now, share your thoughts and well-wishes as John awaits the test results from his potential donor, to hopefully undergo this life-saving transplant in November via the comment section.

I’m hoping and praying for John. This news is so encouraging and how wonderful that someone volunteered to be a donor. Wishing a speedy recovery and hope to see our beloved Mac back on GH soon!

It’s so nice when good things happen to good people. Fingers crossed all goes well for a successful transplant and smooth recovery. John did a great thing by making this public and raising awareness so others can hopefully benefit as well.

Glad to hear he’s still taping so we’ll see Mac on screen through October. Maybe even have the Cody reveal before JJY goes on hiatus. As he’s given Frank and the writers a heads up, there should be no need for a temporary recast.

I would think they would not have the Cody-Mac reveal until something progresses with Scott’s lawsuit on his behalf. Surely for drama it will come down to Cody having to choose between the money from the lawsuit (which depends on him lying that Taub is his father) or admitting Mac is his dad. A “redo” of his previous chance.

And he’ll either make the honest and honorable choice this time with much emotion… or make the wrong choice and be found out and disgraced, depending on which direction the writers want to go. And who knows what writers we will have at that point!

I don’t even know how he plans on staying with the show; he and his wife are living in Tennessee. So even if G-d Willing he’s cured, I don’t see him having much story with Cody. Two separate things: I almost cried when I found out he has a potential donor. I’m thrilled for him. As for GH, I always loved Mac & was pissed that they phased him out of the show. Even with his return, he’s barely had screen time or a story. And now? As said, if he’s living so far from where the show is filmed I don’t expect to see much of him or Mac/Cody stories…that’s disappointing. But first things first, let’s hope he comes through this…

Yes, first and foremost is a full recovery for John.

As for the commute, most times of the year, the shooting schedule is determined a month prior to filming date (with show airing 3-8 weeks after film date). Kathleen Gati (Arizona) and Lynn Herring (Northern California) are two examples of recurring folks that regularly come long distances. Don’t let that sway you (especially since Lucy has had more story and been on more episodes this year than some contract performers). Kin Shriner also regularly flew back and forth from Ft. Lauderdale for years.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I briefly met JJY on plane earlier this year. It was from Nashville to LA. Turns out it was the week they filmed the Nurses Ball. So, it’s a commute he’s accustomed to so don’t let that sway you that we won’t see much of Mac down the line.

While I was disappointed to see Mac’s lack of story for years, Frank has mixed in the recurring vets in major stories. Case in point, Lucy and currently Ned. Kevin/Ryan also had a good run for a few years. Let’s hold out hope that this momentum picks up with Mac when JJY returns.

I’m on the Bone Marrow Registry

I might get called once or twice in my lifetime, but can not be over the age 60 so there is lots of time to use me if I’m needed..

I am a rare type/rare to come up as a match just one of the reasons I volunteered and so little to do to save a life.

I wish John York transplant success and long life–

I’ll be keeping this in my prayers and I’m happy for John and his family.

Jon Lindstrom and Cady McClain Announce They Have Ended Their Marriage

After much speculation, General Hospital’s Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) and Cady McClain (ex-Jennifer, DAYS, ex-Rosanna, ATWT, ex-Dixie, AMC et al) have officially confirmed and announced they have gone their separate ways and have ended their marriage.

For months on social media, it was clear that the two were seemingly apart, not appearing pictured in any of each others posts.

Now, on a mutually shared Instagram post, Jon and Cady made an official statement on the status of their relationship, beginning with “Cady and Jon here. We are taking this opportunity to make a short statement about our relationship status. It may be obvious to some based on our posts that we’ve taken some time apart. After serious consideration we have decided that our goals have been taking us in different directions and to end our marriage.”

As to the future, Jon and Cady explained, “We remain friends and wish each other every happiness. As people who work in the public eye, it can be difficult to have a private life. Regardless, we ask for your kind consideration in this matter.”

Jon and Cady met when they both appeared on As the World Turns, he as Craig Montgomery, and she as Rosanna Cabot. After four years together, the couple decided to get married in 2014.

Adam Huss Makes Another Return to General Hospital as Nikolas Cassadine

Nikolas Cassadine will be back on your screens next week but now via Pentonville. That means, that actor Adam Huss is back for a visit for all-new episodes of General Hospital.

In story, Ava (Maura West) comes to visit her ex in the slammer. So, just what does Ava want now? She clearly has been working an agenda on Sonny (Maurice Benard). Is she working with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart)? What will she tell Nikiolas? stay tuned.

Meanwhile, once news of Huss’ return broke earlier on Friday via Soap Opera Digest, he also announced his return on his Instagram expressing, “For all those who’ve been asking, cat’s out of the bag;) Thank you to all my #Nikolas #GH fans for your unwavering support. I don’t take it for granted for a second! (Even when I can’t answer 😊) #generalhospital”

Huss took over the role of Nikolas back in January of 2023, after Marcus Coloma left the soap opera. Previous to that, Huss filed in for Coloma in September of 2021 and November of 2022. Fast-forward to January of 2024, Nikolas gave Ace to Laura and Kevin to raise, while he eventually turned himself into the police for kidnapping Esme and keeping her hostage while she was pregnant and Wyndemere.

The return of Huss comes on the heels of multiple reports that his on-screen son, Nicholas Chavez is not returning to the show as Spencer Cassadine, while in story Spencer is believed to have drowned int the Seine River after falling off a boat in France, when drugged by Esme.

So, looking forward to seeing Adam Huss back as Nikolas? Do you think GH will eventually have him more full-time? Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny and Jason Trade Threats on Each Other

The love affair that once was mobster Sonny (Maurice Benard) and hit man Jason (Steve Burton), and having each others back, is now apparently over! On the Thursday April 25th episode of General Hospital, an increasingly paranoid Sonny is confronted by Jason.

Jason wants to talk to Sonny about a “family matter”, but Sonny says they aren’t family now because he’s working with the Feds. Sonny goes on to say how he cannot trust Carly (Laura Wright) or Jason and he knows about Jason buying back the Metro Court for Carly from Nina (Cynthia Watros).

When the conversation turns to Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Dex (Evan Hofer), Jason informs Sonny that Kristina (Kate Mansi) knows Sonny ordered a hit. Jason is worried about Dex’s safety. He tells Sonny that if he does something to Dex, Kristina will figure out that he is responsible.

Sonny goes on to say how much he loves his kids and how he will protect them. He then tears into Jason for abandoning his sons, Danny and Jake, for two years and how he has no right to stand there to tell him what to do.

Jason warns Sonny again to leave Dex alone or he’ll personally stop him. Sonny snaps at Jason, countering, “You’ll die trying!” And at that point, Jason walks out and Sonny slams the door behind him.

What do you think about this split in the longstanding relationship of Jason and Sonny? Do you like Jason and Sonny at odds? Will Kristina be the person to ultimately figure out what is happening to Sonny, or it might it be Nina, who knows Ava (Maura West) is up to no good? Share your thoughts in the comment section, but first watch this clip from part of the Sonny/Jason scenes below.
