GH’s Kin Shriner on Jackie Zeman Before Her Passing: “She Was So Optimistic and Was Hoping for a Story, and Always Upbeat About Everything”

This week on General Hospital, viewers will say their goodbyes to Bobbie Spencer (the late Jackie Zeman) in a two-part farewell that will include Bobbie’s memorial service, and then memories shared about her from key members in her life and the town of Port Charles, and more.

The episodes air beginning tomorrow, January 10th, and then again on Thursday, January 11th. From all accounts and interviews, taping the memorial service was both cathartic and heartbreaking for the cast.

One of Jackie’s closest friends was Kin Shriner. On-screen as Bobbie and Scott, they had on and off again romantic relationship, and an enduring friendship that spanned over four and a half decades.

Back in September of last year, The Michael Fairman Channel hosted a tribute to Jackie where her former co-stars, the aforementioned Shriner, Rick Springfield (ex-Noah), Brad Maule (ex-Tony), Tamara Braun (ex-Carly, currently Ava, DAYS), Tristan Rogers (Robert) and Sam Behrens (ex-Jake), all shared memories of working with, and knowing the legendary GH star.

Kin Shriner spoke of Jackie’s mindset last year prior to her death. Zeman passed away in May of 2023 from a short bout with cancer. He related that prior to that, Jackie continued to have a positive attitude and presence, even when Bobbie was back-burnered, and that she was still hoping for a storyline.

Shriner shared a moment from a chat he had with Zeman at New Year’s Eve 2022, before the clock struck midnight to welcome in 2023. “Jackie and I came back and sat in front of the house and talked for about an hour and a half about General Hospital and what we were gonna do.” Kin expressed, “She was so optimistic, and was hoping for a story and fun. She was always upbeat about everything and that we were supposed to do an appearance in a month together.”

He went to explain, “Jackie was always just full of life and and spirited about everything. When she was at the Nurses’ Ball, and under the weather, she was still cranking out all of these lines and she was a pro to the end. She didn’t miss a beat.”

In a touching statement, Kin shared, “She loved being Bobbie Spencer and being there, and that was what I loved so much about Jackie, because cause she would always get so excited about upcoming scenes and stuff.”

You can watch the full tribute to Jackie below.

What do you think about the sentiments shared by Kin? Would you have loved to see Jackie more front and center in story? Will you miss Scott and Bobbie’s friendship on GH? Let us know in the comment section.

I go way back, as I started watching along with my grandma while my mom was working. When I started watching, Bobbie was one of the big four along with Laura, Luke, and Scotty. I can’t relate to so much of what they are showing because the way I see it is once LW took over the Carly role, Bobbie was relegated to nothing but a Carly prop and never had a story of her own again. I think the one exception was when Ron came on, and I have to give him his props, he did write for the vets. But that didn’t last of course. I will always think of Jackie from back then though.

Bobbie was the story not Carly and yes they will make it about Carly heeebis a suggestion give jz her moment she deserves that

I have watched GH as long as I can remember. The show is 10 days older than me!!
GH has always been my favorite soap. I remember cast and storylines fron the late 60s till today.
Thank you for all the years if entertainment.

Tristan Rogers would do well to remove his phone number from his Zoom ID!

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
