Since Carly and Drew (Cameron Mathison) broke-up, and Jason (Steve Burton) returned to Port Charles, speculation has been high, just what General Hospital plans to do with the love life of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), under new head writers Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte.

Drew left Carly over the fact that she will always put his brother, Jason, first. Knowing he is alive, she will do anything for her bestie. But, the question becomes, that at one point, Jason and Carly got married. That is until Sonny (Maurice Benard) showed back up alive and well from Nixon Falls, and the two quickly went back to being just the best of friends.

Now in 2024, who could be the “new” guy for Carly? Laura Wright weighed-in on a few of the options this week in a conversation with Soap Opera Digest where Charles Mesure (Brennan), Adam J. Harrington (John) and Burton were brought up as contenders.

Photo: ABC

For John Cates and Carly, viewers also saw this past week the chemistry between Finola Hughes (Anna) and Harrington. Is that the plan?  An Anna and John pairing … or could it be Carly and the FBI agent?

Wright weighed-in on Harrington expressing, “I love Adam. He’s incredible. Adam is such a great, funny, fun guy to have on set. I’m interested to see where it all goes, too!”

Photo: ABC

As far as the noticeable chemistry between Brennan and Carly that was cut short due his being sent to the slammer, Laura shared, “I could definitely see him being a really great pairing for Carly, honestly. His dynamic, his strength, his no B.S. (attitude)”

Photo: ABC

And as for if fans will get a Jarly redux, the Daytime Emmy winner revealed: “If Sonny is around, Jason and Carly aren’t going to be to together, I don’t think. I don’t think Jason trusts Carly (with Sonny in the picture), you know? I feel like if they are together, they have to be all-in and, like, ride into the sunset together. I don’t feel like they can live in the same town with Sonny and function. I think they just have to be alone. Their love for one another is so deep and so protective, I think they’re terrified of it.”

So, who would you like to see Carly romantically with? Brennan, Jason, John or back with Sonny, or none of them? Share your pick and theory via the comment section below.

A. Martinez!!!!

Bring him back as a new character for Carly.

Considering Roy DiLucca hooked up with her mother, that would be a little weird.

(yeah, I know.. the whole Tony Jones thing, but that was different. That was when Carly thought she had a reason to hate her mama)

I love him from way back in Santa Barbara, also B &B but I think he’s a little old for her and could be real competition for Sonny, ha,ha.

Should have left Carly with Drew. Just because Steve, Jason comes back. He is like a zombie with no personality. This show is becoming revolving doors. So sick of Nina too.

no disrespect to A Martinez but the guy is old, come on now.

Jason

Um. No. They had no chemistry and brought off an icky brother- sister vibe. Might have worked with Sarah Brown or Tamara Braun but certainly not with Laura Wright.

Agreed! Laura’s version of Carly doesn’t deliver the lust that Sarah’s and Tamara’s versions of Carly did. Leave Laura’s version as best friend ONLY!

Agree, I love the Carly character but not the actress

I think Carly and Sonny should get back together. They will always be looking out for each other and their family.

Me too❤️

Sonny…definitely!!!

Why would any man in his right mind want to be with Carly? She’s a narcissistic train-wreck.

Seriously. She is like taking care of a child with all of her schemes that get her into more trouble than she started. She thinks she owns Sonny and Jason and that no women should come before her.

Why does Carly seem to get first dibs on every new man that comes to Port Charles? What about Lizzy or Jordan? Carly boasts about being an independent woman who fought to get where she is now, why not prove that myth by allowing her to be single for a while? The idea that Jason, Sonny and all the new men are mere planets that orbit around Carly’s sun is ridiculous. And that interview Laura Wright gave to Soap Opera Digest was rather embarrassing. I find it unseemly for an actor to wax poetic about her character’s feelings and relationships. She also has the propensity to drop spoilers in her interviews which no other soap actors do. Here she makes it clear that she won’t get her way and no, despite her Jarly cheerleading and promoting, Jason and Carly will not be a couple.

Yeah, she seems a little bitter since she’s been pushing so hard for it. You can’t have both. Either your a romantic pairing and are gone in 2 years, or you the life long bestie. You can’t have both. Carly being shoved into every single story is annoying. She does not need to give her opinion on everything and she does not need to be jason’s mother and take over every relationship he ever had. Even his kids rate behind her. That is not right or cool.

Because Carly is a big part of the show!

I agree Carly is a big part of the show and I don’t think it should not change.

agree

Yes she is a big part of show

TOO big a part of the show
Frank doesn’t know the definition of ensemble

Okay, here’s another case where I begrudgingly defend Frank. Compared to the last long term EP, Frank has brought back numerous vets – with Anna, Laura and Felicia on contract. Recurring vets such as Lucy and Ned have been driving story the past few years.

Is Carly shown more than other characters- yes – but it is more balanced compared to 2010.

Liz is with Finn Harry; I love them together. 😉

The SOD article is interesting that the character of Drew is never mentioned. Just illustrates the show recognizes how dull a pairing they had in Carly & Drew.

I agree but Matheson comes alive in his scenes with Watros. He said he loves acting with her and that she elevates his acting. It shows. No, I most certainly don’t want a Drew and Ninpairing but I wouldn’t object to the two of them to continue to engage in acrimonious bantering. Meanwhile, Maurice’s Sonny looks joyless and miserable since his breakup with Nina.

Always appreciate your comments Harry. The banter between CM & CW is borderline fun, but Drew in this current incarnation is totally inconsequential on the canvas.

That does leave the question of who to pair Sonny with. Sonny & Carly – been there done that. The Chen test this past week with Eva Larue didn’t set off any fireworks. MB has powerful chemistry with MW. Some may bristle at a Sonny & Ava pairing, but having half the town against you might make for interesting story.

Drew and Jordan?

Can’t remember who I saw Jordan with recently, but it looked promising.

There was a chem test with Jordan & Drew a week ago. That sent just slightly better than the leering she got from Brick. Looks like we won’t be seeing Zeke (Portia’s brother) any time soon.

Agree. Jorden and Drew might be interesting. Nina is the one who should be alone for a long long time.

Really? Nina has been the “punching bag” as many Nina fans have said and it seems the writers noticed, for way too long. She lost over twenty years of her life to a coma, had her babies stolen from her, and if Carly had had her way she’d never have found out she has one daughter still alive and two grandchildren. Yet even with all of her suffering and tragic life, Carly was able to hurt her many times over and come out once again as the “beloved” mother/mother-in-law, the Marsha
Brady to everyone’s kids including her own, while Nina’s been ostracized by all. But you think Nina should be “alone for a long time.” LOL and smh…

Brick leering at Jordan was cringey.

I ca do without Brick altogether. HIs “I’m too slick-to-live” is grating. He’s like a parody of cool. Annoying…

Was thinking more like Drew and a spot next to Oscar in the Q crypt.

It would be a very cynical choice, Steve. But it would also be very soapy.

Well Harry, storywise she most likely kept him very happy and all his woman friends that have been consoling him lately, just ain’t the same.

Hell no, after what she did to him.

What NINA did to him???!!! Drew has been a prick with her from day one. The “original” Drew played by the much-missed, beautiful, Billy Miller, was a completely different character. Compassionate. Fair-minded. When everyone hated Franco he made up his own mind; gave him a chance. THIS Drew? He came to the canvas completely different. Punched out Ned, went behind Ned’s back with Michael to override Ned. And Nina? He should have blasted Carly for trying to keep Nina from ever knowing that Willow is her daughter. He of all people knows what it feels like to find out you have a child that no one told you about. He didn’t know about Oscar until Oscar was dying; similar to what Nina experienced. But instead of empathizing with her, he took Carly’s side (even though Sonny was his friend too and he knew Sonny loved and forgave Nina). He was condescending to her, non compassionate, rude, and then told her she had to “earn” Willow’s love, lol, even as Willow was dying and Nina wasn’t “allowed” to be with her. (which was absurd and made no sense to begin with).

Nina had every justification for wanting to get back at Carly, and having Martin call in that tip was the only way she could since everyone, as usual, forgave Carly in seconds and Willow was adoring her. It wasn’t Nina’s intention for Drew to go to jail, and it was his stupidity and utter irresponsibility as a father to choose Carly over his own child and choose to go to jail instead of her. None of that is on Nina.

I want Carly to get back with Drew.l loved them together. But I really sick of all the good guys leaving

Me too!

The Invisible Man. So that he can take Carly with him and they can live happily ever after – invisibly.

love this!!!! yes!!!

It will have to be Cates with Carly she hasn’t sleep with him yet. She has went to bed with all of the men around her age that is on the show

SORAS Jake, pair him with Carly, and watch Elizabeth’s head explode. J/K

Carly with anybody, but not Sonny with Ava, that does not work. Drew and Nina could be interesting.

Carly w Sonny yes. Not Ava.! Drew or Kate’s w Ava. Nina needs to be the one alone for awhile.

Please not JASON!!!!!

It will always be Sonny for me! I don’t like her with Jason as more than just a friend. They have that ick factor as opposed to that it factor she has with Sonny! I know people will disagree but they are the only couple that makes sense to me!

Agreed. Sonny is the only one that can deal with her shit.

CARSON ❤️

Sonny

Carly and Jason!!! Period!! Maybe Sonny and Ava, but I don’t think it would last.

I vote for Mr. Brennan. If Laura Wright says she had chemistry with him that tells you how good it could be.

Maybe but Sonny will always love her.

If her and Drew can’t be together then she needs to be back with sonny. That would be the best get vack at nena.

Laura Wright talking about her character having chemistry is embarrassing. It’s akin to an author praising and analyzing their own writing.

Carly with Sonny. But, just like Josh Morrow on Y&R picking and choosing his love interest, it probably won’t happen. This sort of thing should be based on the story and chemistry. In every day life, we don’t always care for our co-workers, but we have to learn to.deal with them.

Anyone but Jason. That pairing is just gross. It’s like brother and sister kissing.

Jason & Carly Ava & Sonny. Nina w Valentine.

Love it Ava and Sonny would be great ♥️♥️and I think it’s time for Carly and Jason to have theire time together they have held back all these yes it’s time to let their love shine ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Perfect pairing!
Should happen right after Sonny & Nina get back together just long enough for her to get pregnant!
I think Nina & Elizabeth are the only ones he hasn’t fathered a child with.

I’m going with Jason. They just started to explore that when Sonny returned from Nixon Falls. There’s so much more to that story that needs to be explored.

I really don’t care who they pair Drew with. He’s so one-note I can’t stand it. Cut him if you need to save money now that Jason’s back.

And please DON’T have Ava and Sonny sleep together again. That just makes my stomach turn. Plus, it would ruin a very good friendship between Nina and Ava. On the other hand, if Nina found out Ava slept with Sonny, she’d hit rock bottom and come back up swinging, smashing everything and everyone in her path. That might be interesting.

I love Ava and Nina’s friendship. Does Ava have an agenda? Or does she really find the mini mobster with the bad hair dye job sooooo iresistable that she’d risk losing the only female friend she’s ever had?

Sonny they are forever linked .by children and everything else.they always have each other’s back. Great story.they both need each other happy ending.

Problem is they’re tired, redundant boring and totally devoid of chemistry together. Sonny always seemed miserable when with Carly. He was joyous and happy with Nina even after he retained his memories.

I love Carly and Sonny! They have a history with each other . He loved her children and she loves his. Please bring them back together.

Would like to see Carly back with sonny

No. We rant wouldn’t. That would be depressing.

If these three are carlys, only choice. I hate two of them, Guess who they are
I’d stick with jasam is 4 ever.

I would like to see Carly back with sonny

Yes, me too!

Never, he chose crazy Nina, I would never take his butt back.

Maybe this time apart has rekindled Carly and Sonny love . And they may have new things to share with each other.Being away from each other they have experienced new things and new ways.

Back w Sonny They should never have broken up. Will tie up things. If not Jason. No one else. I’ve watched since an early teen. I’m now almost 70

Back with sonny

Shawn Butler [Sean Blakemore]

Why wasn’t this explored when the intimate kiss was given? [Real Honest Answers ONLY]

I loved Shawn , but don’t understand your question, what kiss, with whom are you referring?

Back with Sonny

Sonny

Nina has to go… Drew and ex-commissioner, Sonny and Carly were the new Luke and Laura. Should still be. Tired of Dex and Joss. Please let Sonny see Jason. Geez.

Carly and Jason , should hook up. He knows her real good , the same way she knows him .and if they do hook up , 1) Sonny will be so hurt 2) Drew will say , i knew she run back to Jason .so i see it like this
1) Sonny will go with Ava
2)Drew will hook up with either Jordan / Sam , since Donte , will die or remain in a coma
3)Nina will hook up with Valentin
Lucy probably hook up with either Martin or Scott
4) Spanelli with Maxie
5) i would love these 2 to hook up Cody & Sacha
6) Elizabeth is with Finn
7) Brook lynn with Chase
8) Tracey with Finn and Chase father

Agreed except Tracy’s too old for Finn and Chases father (Gregory) has great chemistry with Alexis.

I still want Carly and Jason to be together. I want joss and dex to go back together and be the future of g h.. Lucy just needs to go. Nina needs to go. Sonny needs someone but not Ava. Brooklyn and Chase need to get this wedding a done deal. Tracy and Gregory are good if Gregory lives, spinelli and Maxie are good, I don’t blame Liz and Finn together. Dante needs to stay with Sam, Valentin should go to prison. Drew?, Jordan needs to get back with Curtis.

I want to see Aidens new boyfriend Tobias

I think the actors playing Brennan and nuTaggert are gorgeous; I hope Brennan returns and both he and Taggert remain on the canvas. And I hope that NEITHER OF THEM winds up with Carly. I can’t stand her and one of them being paired with her would ruin the character for me. Let her go back to Jason or Sonny; I don’t care which one.

I’m assuming you mean nuJagger (John). Taggert was last seen on a milk carton with Obrecht, Brad and Phyllis.

Well… to be fair he looks about as much like Taggert as he does Jagger. As in… not even in the same zip code.

bring back Jax for carly

Either the actor playing Brennan or nuJagger would’ve been a good Jax recast. We seem to be doing okay without the character. Heck, Joss never mentions him.

John/ Jagger is to young for Anna and Carly

Considering he literally went to high school with Anna’s daughter, Robin, he would definitely be too young for Anna. Carly on the other horn should be the roughly the same age as Robin. It may seem like she’s older now after a couple of recasts and her being a grandmother, but she and Jason were the same age when they hooked up at Jake’s bar back in the day, and of course Jason also went to high school with Robin.

So technically age wouldn’t be a factor with Carly & NuJagger. But the fact that he’s out to destroy both Sonny & Jason certainly should be.

I could agree with you on Anna, but he’s definitely in the same age range as Carly.

I have watched this show since the 1970s . Don’t bring them back together. We need something new and Jason and Carly both need someone new

There is no romantic chemistry between carly and jason. Leave them as friends. Not happy with the return of Jason. No excitement in this story. Came out of nowhere. Getting boring.

Who is Brennan on GH

Brennan is a corrupt WSB agent who somehow forced Frisco Jones out of the top job and took over the agency. He was involved in the conspiracy with Pikeman, and was seen a few times with the sniper who shot Dante, and who tried to take out Sonny at the warehouse. He only appeared in a half dozen or so episodes, but was last seen as an inmate in Pentonville prison, where he gave Anna Devane some “intel” on stolen WSB guns… the same ones that NuJagger is supposedly investigating.

The handsome head of the WSB with an accent. Supposedly responsible for burning down Anna’s house.

None o them.Jason is her best friend.

As much I think that Brennan and Jagger are yummy, neither of them are a good choice for Carly They both want to be rid of Sonny and Carly is loyal to Sonny and so she can’t let that happen. As for Jason, they are best friends and so they shouldn’t be paired up! I think Sonny is going to find his way back to Carly because she truly has his best interests at heart. Ava certainly doesn’t Nina was never a good match for him she is too self centered and needy!

Drew and carly need to go back to be together

I like Carly n Jason. Nina with all her hardships should leave the show!! Lol

I think the main thing here is ; who she should be with ;; but looked at how all these folks can handle all these situations they get themselves in.
You know when she finds out that Sonny’s medicine has been tampered with. Carly’s whole attitude will change towards Sonny and when she finds out Ava new and is doing absolutely nothing about it.
Carly has put up with a lot from Ava’s
Doings. Carly has even taken care of Ava’s daughter to keep her save and out of what’s going on.
Ava’s character might look like a train wreck right now and she may find out who’s behind Sonny’s med’s being changed. The thing is she is no different from Nina is. Ava has a agenda but is it to benefit her or is it to really real.
Also Ava should tell Jason , Carly, Micheal and his daughter that Pregnant so she and everyone else can help him.
Maybe she’s doing what she always does. She’s a black widow spider and they all know it especially after what happened to Carly and Sonny’s Son with her.

Sonny and Carly have the longest history and she has always loved Sonny as well and the Love for Jason is more respect for each other Because of how he responds to everything and always catches who ever falls and keeps them safe.
I would say Carly needs a Love that changes everything she has ever been through and just makes her life better like the changes she has made to improve herself from the past that she has been in.
Maybe they’ll send someone she can be with forever like she deserves.

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

Published

By

Dominic Zamprogna

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).

On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.

Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

Courtesy/ABC

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT

Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”

Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”

Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES

In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”

Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”

You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.

Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither guy  for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

Patrick J. Gibbons

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.

However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.

Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

Photo: ABC

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG

Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!

Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”

MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).

Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

Photo: JPI

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY

Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”

It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”

A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

Photo: PGibbons

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS

As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”

He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”

Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.

So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.

Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.

Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

Chad Duell

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON

Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”

Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Courtesy/ABC

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”

When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES

One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”

“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good.  I was working with Dominic  Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.

A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?

As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”

Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
