General Hospital’s Maurice Benard Defends Sonny Going Postal, “It Could Definitely Happen”
Last Friday’s May 17th cliffhanger of General Hospital saw Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) beating up Dex (Evan Hofer) and threatening to shoot and kill both Dex and Jason (Steve Burton), who is restraining him outside the ballroom at the wedding reception of Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard).
For months, Sonny has been taking less than his prescribed dosage of medication to control his bipolar disorder. The mobster has no idea that he has been duped by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart), who is the one that set this dangerous situation in motion, in an effort to eliminate Sonny and eventually Jason from interfering in Pikeman taking over the territory.
One fan questioned the validity of Sonny’s reaction to Dex and Jason after the pei, when he took to X and expressed, “People off their medications don’t necessarily go around hitting people and being out of control. This was the WRONG message to send. I don’t expect anything from Frank Valentini and General Hospital anymore, but you could’ve (and should’ve) stopped it cold.”

Photo: ABC
Maurice Benard replied back to that comment and defended the actions of Sonny given the circumstances. The three-time Daytime Emmy-winner shared, “This is true but when you have a character like Sonny who’s volatile and is drinking and is manic and his thoughts are taken him over it could definitely happen like I said, ‘bipolar ain’t pretty.”‘
GH has portrayed Sonny’s battle with mental illness and the importance of keeping on your meds, plus the issues surrounding it for years. However, some fans have not been pleased by this latest plot point.

The pick-up of the story begins tomorrow on Monday, May 20th where teasers for the episode share: Sonny is horrified. Blaze consoles Kristina (who walked in on her dad threatening Jason and Dex) and Jason summons Carly.
So, what did you think of the plot point of Sonny threatening to kill Dex and Jason, after beating up Dex, given his growing paranoia? Comment below.
That’s like Laura Wrighteous defending the fact Snarly can run a hotel, run a diner, run a restaurant, and also be a butcher, baker and candlestick maker. Their egos need to be fed, and as long as they are given scenes to chew the scenery, they are happy.
It’s offensive to portray people off their medication as being completely out of control maniacs. They could’ve had Sonny do the same story without ever bringing his meds into it.
On the other horn at least the med tampering explains the sudden change in Sonny’s character. What’s the excuse for the sudden changes in Laura, Anna, Ava, TJ and others?? Are they all on pharmaceuticals that have been tampered with too? Or did they all have cobalt hip replacements like Psycho Heather, maybe?
I don’t like this story line
I feel like Sonny is getting a bum deal. I don’t like the way GH is going and I want to see Sonny get the help he needs. The writers are dragging out the story. I’m glad Jason is back and hope he will rescue Sonny and they will be friends again. Please STOP dragging out the story .
When will Mac find out about his son?
Hate the new writing.
I hope Sonny comes to the realization that his behavor is erratic and something is not right, especially knowing Kristina witnessed his attack on Dex. I wish he would ask Dante for help.
Sonny will continue to becoming more erratic, more paranoid the longer he takes a reduced dosage of meds. Hopefully someone who is on Sonny’s side will find out and help him. Ava surely doesn’t care to get him the help he needs.
Ava needs to get caught
I think some fans are missing mos point entirely some bi polar people either off their meds or lessened meds are like this he never said all.people shouldn’t confront him on it.if some can’t handle the reality of it then don’t watch but stop hasling him about it
If Sonny has such good security, how did Valentin get to his medication? Is Ava part of this? She did the same to Morgan. Don’t Carly and Sonny remember what Ava did to Morgan?
It can happen. I have a cousin who is a schizophrenia and uses drugs. When he doesn’t take his medication. He’s violent. Even my aunt who was his mother was scared of him. So yes someone who has issues and doesn’t take their medication can become violent
End this stupid idea someone has screwed up Sonny’s meds. It’s old and was done before!!
Give Ava another life. This is old as well!
I think that sonny will realize that Jason is trying to help him. Not hurt him and they become partners again.
The best scenes were Jason holding back Spinelli’s attempted hugs
I don’t like the storyline of Sonny’s manic behavior. Writers step it up, you’re wasting talent.
I just hope that Mayor Collins gives Sonny the same consideration that she is trying to give serial killer Heather, due to her cobalt poisoning, and also the way that she looked the other way when Charlotte terrorized Anna, and broke into her home!
Wonder what it would be like if Sonny got beat up and went to jail.
Just as some heart and intention was being put back into General Hospital we lost it with the exit of Patrick Mulcahey. Huge mistake.
Not taking the meds send a bipolar patient either into a devastating and dangerous depression or into a manic episode that brings out personality traits the medicine helps to control. Whether it be gambling , sex, violence or doing things that are a danger to themselves or others is absolutely probable.
That’s exactly right
Sonny is Sonny on this I expected it to be just this way. His enforcement is not much in play at the moment. When and who is going to out Ava? We know this is going to play out she is the one with the pharmacist shorting Sonny’s meds. At this point Anna needs to tell Carly what is going on with Jason.
I liked the Jason/Spinelli scene. I had to rewind a couple times to really see what Jason was doing with his hand. Jason is so standoffish, it was a very funny scene.
Bipolar is no joke.People with that illeness are dangerous.
UNMEDICATED… sometimes. Medicated…nope.
I really enjoyed Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding. It was nice to see so much of the cast on screen together, everyone looked good, the sets looked good. It was novel to see a wedding in Port Charles go off without a hitch for once, minus Gregory’s incident.
And btw, since they’re re-writing so many things, characters not acting like themselves, people changing jobs left and right, Heather a sympathetic character, can we please have it come out that Gregory’s ALS was a misdiagnosis? Tracy talking him out of his freeze up was touching. They found something with Gregory and Tracy.
But the Sonny beatdown of Dex, I didn’t like that scene at all. Maurice couldn’t have been phoning it in any more if he was doing the scene from a phone booth. I’m dating myself with a phone booth reference, lol.
His supposed beating of Dex, even his line about killing Jason and Dex, that he was gonna put a gun in their face, whatever it was, it came across so half-hearted and lackluster to me. Which makes me think that contrary to his public statements, which are probably him trying to make lemonade from the lemons he’s been given, Maurice isn’t buying into this story. Just my opinion, of course.
I loved the wedding!!!
I think Gregory will not wake up unfortunately. Kleenex ready.
Hope he wakes up. Not on his sons wedding day! Please!
They need to get on with it. His mental problem need to be revealed
Ava knows Sonny’s meds h a s been tampered with and she knows that Sonny should not be drinking she needs to be caught. Very sad she lowered Morgan’s meds don’t quit understand how she got away with it
I think it’s horrible that this show is dragging poor Sonny soo long through this horrible situation. Of all the so called intelligent characters on G.H. no one has really reached out to help him. It’s discusting and shameful. Please someone step up and take actuon to help him. I hate that everyone has turned Against him, know whats wrong but does not fight to help him. Ava is being mean and cruel right now, playing this dangerous game with Sonny. As a big fan of this show, please get him the help he desperately needs, like yesterday. Enough of the cruelty. ☹️
Carly did figure it out. She told him to get his blood drawn so doctors could adjust his meds. He was gonna do it to prove to Carly he was taking his meds. Ava talked him out of it. Ava needs to go. Never liked her character any more than Nina.
Carly told him she doesn’t trust him being around Donna as long as he’s acting this way. That should’ve made him get help which would’ve enlightened him.
Sonny pushes education on bi polar so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s prompting this story line, but I too, have had enough of it.
I’m loving how Sonny is playing out! He’s a mob boss! Time to show what got him that top position of the 5 families when he didn’t have meds. I want Alexis’ first case to get him out of it.
You make a good point, especially when his so-called other friends, Anna and Laura have turned against him. I’m not a Carly fan, but I don’t see her turning her back on him, or Olivia either.
This needs to wrap up.
Ava should get in trouble for not letting sonny & other people in his family know she discovered that something was off with sonny’s. Medication & I know most all type of medicine for mental illness has warnings against having alcohol as it can interfere with medication also any other illegal drugs like pot can be very much more problems I’ve seen very scary things happen with a person not being on medicine & they are acting out of their minds. So the story with sonny could very well be true & general hospital should say at end if you know anyone who suffers any kind of mental health issues give a # that people can call & to avoid alcohol abuse ad well. These warning signs could save someone’s life.
I get that Sonny is off his meds but everyone he has helped has gone against him. Carley is even taking Donna away.I like Anna but she a crook too. Joylsen got too big for her pants. I don’t like Nina, glad Sony is away from her
In reality Sonny, the actor, does have bi polar. He is there on the set and knows the writers. All mental illnesses have degrees. Life situations also alter the success of the medications. Let the experts in this do what they do and know.
If anyone has a mental disease and takes meds, it doesn’t mean that serious life issues cannot occur.
I’ve been reading through these comments and some of them are right on the money. All of a sudden Anna and Laura are completely against Sonny after all he has done for them over the years most especially Anna. Green line makes no sense. The writers are wasting the viewers time. We are much smarter than that. I can’t seem to like Carly anymore. They’ve written her to be very self-righteous. She committed a crime that Drew went to prison for but yet she has gotten back everything she ever wanted. She is the one that actually ruined Nina‘s life not vice versa. The writers tend to think we forgotten that, she kept the identity of Nina‘s daughters away from her. That isn’t unforgivable sin that a lot of Nina‘s actions in motion. I really liked Nina and Sonny together. Nina brought out the soft side Sonny and she really loved him deeply. Now Nina has given the restaurant back to Carly. Thanks to Carly there is really nothing Nina can do to make Sunny love her again as long as Carlys in the picture.
I love the actress that Sonny took to the wedding but PLEASE DONT make her Sonny’s new love interest. They do not vibe. There’s no chemistry there. Please find a way to put Sonny and Nina back together. Maybe Nina could take a bullet for Sonny and almost die. It seems like that’s the only way you can become Sonny‘s friend. That would really grind on Carly and it’s something that Carly deserves. Carly shouldn’t get her way all of the time.
Marlene, I don’t like this story line that’s playing out, but I definitely and respectfully don’t like any of your suggestions either.
I’m not sure how long you’ve been watching GH but Carly has always been a self-righteous, vindictive, selfish, vicious person. Fans of Carly think she’s “changed” from her younger years. She hasn’t. Not even a little. The only difference is they love her “mama bear” protective side as IF all the characters on the show didn’t have one. If Carly had gone after Willow years ago, if she thought Willow was unduly blaming Avery or Donna for something they didn’t do, Carly fans would have cheered and said “I love how protective she is over her family.” But Nina? When she lashed out at Willow for Charlotte, whom she loved like a daughter, Carly fans STILL use that little story arc to rationalize that Nina was “always mean to Willow.” LOL… Of course she hasn’t been; that was one time when Willow was new to town, no one knew her, and Nina thought Charlotte was being picked on by the new teacher..
The entire battle between Carly and Nina began with Carly. She took it upon herself to decided Nina would never know that Nelle had been her daughter and with that decision she decided to deprive Nina of her grandson, Wiley. And Carly never paid for that; wasn’t even called out for that. She THEN decides to repeat that same despicable behavior, steals Nina’s DNA, and decides Nina will once again not know about her child, this time a child that is alive. But Carly fans once again give Carly an excuse, all of them hilarious: “Willow doesn’t like Nina She wouldn’t want to know” Or (and this one was the best) “Carly was honoring Harmony’s wishes.” I mean, who wouldn’t want to honor a murderer’s wishes? She only killed Neal and his brother, tried to kill Alexis and Carly, locked Carly in a trunk (that part I have to thank Harmony for), lied to Willow her whole life and drugged her so that Shiloh could rape her. But Carly listened to Harmony’s “dire” warning: “Don’t tell Nina; she’ll smother Willow with LOVE.” LOLOLOLOLOL!
Point is, yes, the fact that smug-mug Carly never pays is one of the worst aspects of the show. It’s always been written in a very one-sided way. She hounded AJ his entire life, took Michael from him for life, and the show never righted that wrong until Carlivati took over and Michael FINALLY had a relationship with his father, which was undone when Carlivateiand Sean Kanan (AJ) had a falling out & the story was reversed once again, and Michael not only never mentions AJ, the father he grew to love, but he took back the Corinthos name, passing on the name of the man who murdered his father to his children.
Carly AND Sonny have gotten away with everything. The way this new writer had Laura and Anna turn on a dime after decades of looking the other was absurd. The writer didn’t pace his stories; you don’t turn everything and every character upside down in days to weeks (felt like hours). Maurice though, is knocking it out of the park. He’s truly conveying a broken man; I feel for him even though I detest Sonny. But I WISH instead the writers would have had people turn against Carly. It’s CARLY who is the one who wears smug on her face; who has hurt others so completely, and not only doesn’t pay but instead gets her arse kissed. It’s insane how many decades this has gone on. The fact that she’s STILL smug to Nina’s face and Nina still has scenes where she’s still apologizing to Carly is revolting. They need to give Nina back some of the fire that Michelle Stafford’s Nina had; not crazy fire, but pride and take no sh-t. It’s also crazy that the writers continue to keep Nina from having a close relationship with her daughter, as if a 20-year coma, her children taken from her, Nelle dead, conned by Sasha, inability to have more children, Carly’s double deceit, wasn’t enough. Let’s just make her wait even longer, so maybe on her death bed Willow will honor her by holding her hand. UGH.
That he wouldn’t kill Dex! I was Horrified just as Joss would have seen it all!! I’m 81 been a fan 52 yrs please adjust his meds cuz his whole family is starting to get àffected. Some fans can take it some cant. Its good info, but for me it could have taken place @ the gym or pier! Cuz the wedding was Beautiful & Chases dad made it through!
Don’t like it. Story lines are too long. Frank wrap it up.
Sonny is a criminal and should be treated as one. But so should Carly and , Jason, The most annoying part of the show is the super sanctimonious Carly, Willow, Michael , Diane acting like heroes! It is not called Godfather, it is General Hospital! Also, the increasing clan from Bensonhurst and Gregory and family are plain BORING! Please put them on the back burner. Besides GH, focus should be on Cassadines, Courtemains, Nina, Drew, Maxie, Ava, Sasha, Scotty, and all others who are actually trained for their jobs!
GH put Dimples back on his medicine and How can Laura defend her brother and that crazy wedder lady her brother kill plenty and Heather Wedder As much as Dimples did for her And Anna needs sit down and shut up about Dimples
I’m going stop watching GH
Leaving Dimples and Jason alone that why GH is top soap because Dimples, Carly and Jason
It’s absolutely possible for people with Bipolar disorder to loose control, get violent and do things they wouldn’t otherwise do when off their meds. My son is Bipolar and off his meds. One day I asked him why he felt the need to lie and disrespect me, and his eyes darkened and proceeded to beat me up like Sonny beat Dex. So yeah, it’s a real thing.
There are two types of bipolar. One is lashing out at others. The second is that they hurt themselves. If they aren’t getting proper medication and taking said medications. Someone I love more than life is bipolar so I’m very familiar with it. Glad it’s being covered on the show. Mental illness still has a very bad stigma attached.
I am glad this was seen by the viewers. Bipolar is no joke. If someone is off their meds and drinking it is not pretty. It is very scary for the people around the person.
Sonny in real life has bi-polar and is showing us what can happen.
Keep up the great work General Hospital.9
Why doesn’t carly realize that sonny is off his medication. Especially when Morgan went off his because of ava. I know it’s not ava. But come on…..
Carly had the first idea that he was off his meds, but he’s not. Only Ava knows his meds are being compromised; however, she doesn’t know by whom or why. She has her own agenda. She was gonna move out, but weaseled her ŵay into staying.
They need a way to redeem Sonny after this. The whole world has turned their backs on him or he’s turned his. I think he needs some time in lock up. Maybe give Maurice a vacation & the audience. Then have a realistic (for soaps) time-line redemption arc. The audience does need some time away from certain characters at times. Sonny just seems to be getting on people’s nerves.
Oh puuullease. Sonny torture Dex, even when he was on his medication. He needs to be arrested and held accountable for his actions, whether he is taking his meds or not
Folks say it with me lazy writing. How many times do have to rehash storyline. It’s been done over and over the plot is going nowhere. And yes it does send a bad message but it’s television.
This certainly can happen when someone with bipolar illness is not taking their therapeutic dose of appropriate meds. That pharmacist is playing with fire and if/when his dangerous action is discovered, he will be legally liable for Sonny’s manic state. The writers are portraying a true to life effect of how not being properly medicated can result in someone with bipolar disorder exhibiting paranoid, violent behaviors.
He right depends how bad it is I have the same problem and I have been to his point
Michael, I have mad respect for you, but the “going postal” description in your headline is demeaning to those suffering from Mental Illness and as a person with Bipolar Disorder, this obvious Emmy bait storyline for Maurice does not portray mental illness in the best light, is terribly exploitive, nor gives it any hope who suffer from this disease.
For those of you too young to remember or weren’t born yet, the:going postal refers to a postal worker who killed several of his co-workers at a post office several years ago.
It really is time for Sonny and General Mobsters storylines to go away. If that’s they’ve all they have left for Maurice to do, it’s time for Mo to go.

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.
Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT
Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”
Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”
Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

Photo: ABC
DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES
In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”
Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”
You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.
Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither guy for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

Photo: PGibbons
IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.
General Hospital
‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Courtesy/ABC
Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”
Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
