GENERAL HOSPITAL: "My Name's Jake … What's Yours?"

It was a banner day for so many General Hospital fans, when a major storyline wrong was finally made right, thanks to the creative team of executive producer Frank Valentini and head scribe Ron Carlivati and his writing team.

In a twist that helps give even deeper meaning to the upcoming departure of the character of Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) and upcoming ramifications for Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), and Jason (Billy Miller), little Jake Spencer (James Nigbor) was revealed to be alive and well and living on Cassadine Island with the exiled Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers)!

Since 2011, Luke has believed he killed Jake via a hit and run accident during one awful moment when he was drunk, and has been tormented every since.  But after Lucky revealed he believes Jake is alive, Luke goes to see Helena one-on-one to get the truth out of her.  Luke then learns Jake IS really alive, but viewers don’t know the specifics of what Helena told Luke of how it all came about, and how she pulled off this heinous act to make everyone believe the boy was dead.

It is then that we see a toy blue truck hit Luke at his feet, as little Jake Spencer is there in the room with the man that supposedly ran him down! Helena retorts, “How fitting that he hit you with his car.” While Helena and Luke have their typical and delicious repartee’, there is a twist.  Helena seems to have softened, even thanking Luke for “all of the years of passion you gave me,” and she even with her odd attraction to her nemesis, kisses him.  These were wonderful final scenes between long-time scene partners: Constance Towers and Tony Geary.

In the episode’s final moments, with just the right musical underscore to heighten the emotions for the viewing audience, Luke and little Jake come face to face …  and Jake says, “My name’s Jake … what’s yours?”  Hankie-time!

The episode also featured Laura Wright (Carly) in a touching performance in scenes with Rebecca Herbst, while Carly waited to see if her daughter Josslyn would remain cancer free on the anniversary of when she received little Jake’s kidney that saved her life.  The two mothers discuss the loss Liz must feel, as she relates she still thinks about her son every day and tries to keep his memory alive.  Later after running tests,  Silas (Michael Easton) comes in with great news for Carly.  Josslyn’s reports are all good, and since Joss has been cancer-free for five years, it’s the best news she could get! Carly is thankful to Elizabeth, and overwhelmed.

It was very surprising to see how this story came together, and will be even more interesting to see how this is all explained, but with little Jake back on the canvas, this story has legs for some time to come, and it takes a horrible moment in Luke’s life and gives his tattered soul some salvation.  And how special it was to see James Nigbor again several years older!

So, what did you think of Thursday’s General Hospital?  Excited to see little Jake back on the canvas?  What do you think will happen next, or should happen next?  Luke’s on-screen farewell tour has certainly brought with it this special moment.   Now, share your thoughts and comments below.   But first check out the the final moments of the episode when little Jake meets Luke!

So, another one of Edward’s great grandkids is alive. This surely changes the crazy, ridiculous ownership situation at ELQ

Wish there was more time and story with Luke and Helena. Hope this isn’t also the end of Helena on GH. Love Constance Towers and what she’s done with the role of head matriarch of the Cassidine’s over the years. Wish writers would un-neuter Silas and Patrick. They just walk into and out of scenes. I’m ambivalent about whether they introduced little Jake as alive. There’s already enough kids around who, except for Emma, never seem to spend much time with their parents on screen. Or are precocious and spoiled.

Rose i for one enjoy the story of kids and creative writers who use them to their potential. What I don’t like is seeing a good child actor aged out of a part for story reasons. Watching Jessica grow up played by the same actress on OLTL..as well as Starr..Cassie on Y&R..kids are what propel soaps forward all the time..what if Phillip Spaulding or Rick Bauer was never born? What if Sammi and Bell and Eric were never conceived..kids bring lasting continuity and newer viewers and better story to a show as they age..as for Helena..she has run her course along with Luke..time to retire that character and the Island and the rest of them less Nicholas and Alexis..put the cartoonish stories to bed along with the Ice Princess..Leisl is fresh snarky and funny and trailing enough of the new crazy behind her to end that 80’s era nonsense..Sonny needs to go all the way to Don Corleone and be taken out once and for all..GH needs to step into the a new era and keep a few of the old but become RC’s new and fresh vision heading into the hopeful years to come..He can start it..others can continue it..and we need to stop wanting to see the ghost of Jesse Brewer and embrace what is to be…

You want to see your old favorites and storylines from years gone by..go to YouTube…

Maybe Helena and Luke exit together in a staged death? I love Constance but its time to go.

Don’t mind the kids if there were story-lines with them interacting with each other and their parents more. And not acting like teen agers before their time. Right now we don’t see much of any of them, especially Liz’ and Carly’s kids. I do agree about maybe it’s time to let Helena go into the sunset, figuratly, with Luke. Can’t see them without the other. Just don’t want her to go. And”yes” I do dip into GH, etc on youtube once in a while. There are wonderful memories there.

”” Helena seems to have softened, even thanking Luke for “all of the years of passion you gave me,” and she even with her odd attraction to her nemesis, kisses him. These were wonderful final scenes between long-time scene partners: Constance Towers and Tony Geary.”

BRAVO!!
RC, FV and Team.. You truly came through..
Helena’s heartfelt good bye kiss to Luke was truly heartfelt, and portrayed perfectly!!!

””” Luke and little Jake come face to face … and Jake says, “My name’s Jake … what’s yours?” ””

That ^^ little line will never be forgotten..
Tony is free of his daemon !!
How wonderful! That moment was priceless..
Quote Michael;
””’it takes a horrible moment in Luke’s life and gives his tattered soul some salvation. ””’
It is awesome Luke is free ..
All is coming full circle for Luke…

BRAVO! RC, FV, and Team !!

There is more to come– Luke and Tracy’s last moments will be a heartache goodbye..

I had no doubt that RC, FV, and Team would give Tony a befitting exit..
I knew RC, FV, and ALL would not fail..

((shame on all you bitch whining complainers, be ashamed, very ashamed..
you all made fools of yourselves strutting your horrible attitudes and not having patients.
RC, FV, TEAM would never give Tony and Fans anything but their best 🙂

‘How very cool !! BRAVO!!!

So please explain the events of Jake’s reveal?

Frank Smith wants to kill Luke and Laura. He supposedly kidnaps Lucky and Ethan. Before he dies, he tells Luke that Lucky was “in on it.”

Luke asks Lucky what that means. Lucky says it’s complicated, he had too, because of Jake. Skip three episodes later, Luke is on Cassadine Island because Helena must have something to do with it? Why? How did we get from Frank Smith to Helena?

If Frank wasn’t in the mix, I can see Helena being a suspect, but why would Luke connect the dots to Helena from Frank who popped up alive after twenty years? What did Lucky go along with exactly? Did he set a trap for his parents for information on Jake? Would he do that? Did Frank give him any information? How would he? Lucky escaped right? If Frank was holding the information until he got Luke and Laura, he wouldn’t have told him anything before he escaped would he? We didn’t see him say anything before he died?

So how did Luke go directly to Helena from Frank? What did Frank have to do with anything? How would he be connected to Helena? Going back to Lucky, when he escaped, he was gone for over 16 hours according to Ethan, that’s how long he was standing on the bomb. Why didn’t he phone his parents to tell them what was going on? 16 hours.

None of this makes much sense and from what I see on different sites, people are so excited about Jake being alive that they are just ignoring all that doesn’t make sense. Or maybe they are just so used to things on GH not making any sense that they are immune.

Of course once you get past the Frank Smith stuff, Helena having Jake and what happened to him is on the road to making no sense either. Helena knew that Liz was going to be distracted that night and leave the door open for Jake to wander out? Helena’s been raising Jake for four years?

Helena gave Jake back because she isn’t evil anymore because she’s been locked up? She’s human now? Then why was Frank Smith somehow involved? And if she’s human now, not evil, why is she so happy that Nik is evil?

All of this is so random and poorly told, yet some people are so happy that Jake is alive, they don’t seem to care. That should maybe be a lesson for Cartini. You can get away with holes in your stories if they are about GH history, core characters, families and legacies. Maybe if the focus was on those things without so many new characters, more viewers would be happy and watching.

Great question Matilda. While I’m happy that Jake’s death is being re-told (that was a HUGE mistake on the Guza/Phelps era), I’m so lost. I feel like i’ve missed so much, but I haven’t missed anything. What lazy story-telling.

Excellent points all around!!! But remember that in the world of soaps, as a fan you are required to suspend your belief in reality and kinda just go along for thenride. But still very excellent insight!!

I think for whatever reason this is like on speed dial the exit story for Luke.

i didnt get that Frank/Helena connection myself…its like all the Batman’s villians who were never together suddenly joined forces in Gotham Hospital(but in a bad way) to do what to Luke: kill him…drive him insane…say goodby…i just dont get why Smith was involved if Helena is behind it all…i dont get why she would have little Jake all this time and now tell Luke he is alive…is that really little Jake or little fake…im confused and i guess ive written my comments that way too…

I was just having my own little rant about all of the holes in this story and my sisters finally just told me to walk away lol. Let’s not even address the fact that Josslyn is walking around with someone’s kidney and if Jake was brain dead was he was more than likely saved by Robin and if so was she even aware she was saving him? Was Nicolas even aware of all of this? Considering his dark side kicking in would he keep this from Liz like the Jason secret? There are just too many unanswered questions and I get the excitement but if I were Liz and Lucky I’d want to know every little thing from the time Jake went into that OR from his kidney to be donated until his supposed burial to how he ended up on Cassadine Island. Especially since there have been multiple visits to that island in the last 4-5 years.

Best Thing that could ever happen …Now bring back Jasons memories…love this …Im in tears now

without doubt

the floodgates are spilling

the dam is going to crack as soon as Liz see’s Jake

and i’ll burst right along with… when “Jake” is Jason, and re-unites, with Liz, and his oldest son, Jake.

It was beautiful. I’ve been hoping that they would bring Baby Jake back for years but didn’t believe it would actually happen. What a wonderful gift to the fans.

Carly & Elizabeth scenes were very emotionally poignant. Old nemesis who have developed into friends. There’s an honesty about their relationship that only their years of rivalry can afford.

Luke & Helena’s scenes were wonderful. We all know we’re bidding farewell to a great acting partnership but they lost nothing in their scenes today. The Luke & Helena antagonism was sparking under the surface but seems to have come to a semi-peaceful conclusion.

Dante & LuLu. I could barely stand to watch as the realization that he had made a grave error in judgment hit Dante full force. Such excellent work from Dom & Emme this week. I could literally feel their pain…so good!

Can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow!!! Stay tuned…

P.S.
I think I’m going to like Paul & Tracy. Tracy has been put through the wringer with Luke for the last few years so it would be nice to see her joining forces with an old love to take on the world again!

Which anniversary are they celebrating? The accident didnt happen 5 years ago and it did not happen in July.

It was a great show. Carly will hit the roof once she finds out Liz knew Jason was alive. Their new found friendship will not last!

Yeah, Timmm. The sh!? that will soon hit the fan, will land smack-dab in the middle of Lizzie’s face.

What a great episode of GH! I’m so happy that Jake is alive. His death was awful, but I always thought Guza left enough holes in that story so that when the time was right, he could be brought back.

I love that James Nigbor is playing Jake still. Just makes it extra special. I’m so happy that Elizabeth finally has her son back, and I really hope that Jason can finally have a chance to be a part of Jake’s life.

I didnt know that was the original Jake. Cool!

“…I love that James Nigbor is playing Jake still. Just makes it extra special. ”

“WOW”

nice

Great episode today! Jake’s death nearly killed me. I didn’t think I could ever care for a fictional character that much. Glad they’re righting this wrong.

My only hope going forward is that Elizabeth, you know, Jake’s mother gets a prominent viewpoint this time around. I remember how glaring her absence was following Jake’s death – all the while Lucky, Luke, Jason were HEAVILY featured. And I already know Rebecca Herbst will kill it!

I loved today’s episode! Having Jakey back is like a dream come true. I also thought there were so many holes in the original s/l, that could easily be explained away. He is a GH Legacy child & should never have been killed off in the first place. But, that was a different regime.

I can’t wait to see him be reunited with his mother. Rebecca Herbst has been hitting it out of the ballpark with her acting talent and finally being front & center in a great s/l. Becky is SO deserving of this! She goes toe-to-toe with Billy Miller! They play off each other so well and the chemistry they have as LAKE/LIASON has me begging for more. With them saying their ILY’s to each other today was icing on the cake.

Of course, except for that damned LIE Elizabeth’s been keeping which I despise, this S/L gets a 5+ star rating from me.

Seeing Laura, Lucky & Luke together was very nostalgic and it’s like we’ve come full circle with them. The scenes between TG & Contance Towers were so beautifully done & actually very sweet. I hope Helena is still sticking around.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Ron C. & Frank V. really pulled out all the stops today! I hope it continues. I will say a Huge Thank You to them for giving LIASON, LIZ Fans back a piece of their hearts. I haven’t been able to say that in a long time.

Right now, GH has so many POWER couples that GH can capitalize on: LAKE/LIASON, Julexis, Carson, samtrick/Siam, Lante/Vante, Naxie/Maxllon, Sakey, Frina, Lullion etc. their Romantic s/l’s practically can write themselves.
RC doesn’t have to use such a heavy hand with all the angst. Let these couples have a chance to develop organically, slowly, & play out. No gimmicks are necessary. Just let them lead & the fans will follow. Thanks, again Michael

“How fitting that he hit you with his car!’

Line of the day right there!

And how cute is James! His hair hasn’t changed!

Of course, his hair hasn’t changed….he’s “Stone Cold Jr.!” The look is inborn, even if his own father has temporarily quit rockin’ that style! Should be interesting to see if it is resurrected once “Jake Sr.” remembers his true identity. LOL.

@shay…Cute…”Stone cold Jr”

Or, Shay, what if the rockin’ style resurrects Daddy Jake’s dormant memory?

@CeeCee….Hey, anything’s possible, although if Jake’s latest spy adventures with Sam don’t shake his memory, what on earth will? Tell me how any guy could forget being married to such a foxy chick with that fine of a physique….sort of beggars belief, doesn’t it?????

@Fanny…..Glad you liked it! By the way, is it just me, or did that toddler pic of junior not remind one of Billy Idol????

@Shay…”Stone Cold Jr.” Rocked it then and now!
Jr. Is far cuter, just saying…

This is true, Fanny! It was the hair and expression that brought Billy to mind….a bit of vintage Sting, as well!!!! LOL.

Liz emotional reunion with little Jake is what will trigger Jason’s memory…Liz will be crying with tears of joy and hugging little Jake then Jason’s memories come flooding back???

@Shay… Vintage Sting, now that is music to my ears….
Don’t laugh… Although I know you will…. His image just
popped into my head, Don Johnson circa 1980 his
album “Heartbeat” it’s all about the hair. Well maybe
not completely….

On the money with Billy Idol, Shay…..!!

@CeeCee….I’m waiting for the little dude to go all hell for leather biker jacket ala Jason and do a “Rebel Yell” on Liz…like when she asks if he wants seconds at dinner, he’ll cry, “More, More, MORE!” (Keep an eye out for the BI trademark sneer….LOL.)

Absolutely loved it. Kudos to FV, RC and company for righting a terrible wrong perpetrated by the Phelps/Guza regime. I haven’t been a huge fan of some of the things that have been going on with GH lately, but this is a great twist. The little boy James Nigbor that plays Jake is a real cutie, so it was nice to see him back. This brings on all kinds of intriguing storyline possibilities. It will be interesting to see how they explain it. The fall out is going to rock Port Charles.

I know some people will complain about yet another back from the dead story, and more rewriting of history. This is one that will definitely be worth it, and will make the show better for it, in my view, so I have absolutely no problem with it. Killing Jake was a huge mistake, one of many that the Phelps/Guza regime made during their tenure of destruction that left GH on the verge of cancellation.

That’s why when people come on here and post about FV and RC being “the worst this, or the worst that”, I always say, yeah I might not be a fan of everything they do, and the show has undeniably been in a funk the past few months, but compared to where the show was before they took over, I will still take them over the previous show runners any day of the week.

What tremendous scenes with Tony Geary and Constance Towers. They’ve always had such a chemistry together. I’m glad they brought back Helena, so she and Luke could do their dance one last time. The Luke exit storyline hasn’t really worked for me, especially the bit with Frank and Jennifer Smith, but as per usual, the acting has risen above the quality of the writing. The scenes between Geary and Jonathan Jackson, and he and Constance more than made the whole trip worth it, in my eyes. And I’m looking forward to what else they have in store for Tony’s last few weeks.

So happy that Jake has returned! As Michael said, a wrong has been made right. There’s so much storyline potential, and will hopefully keep Becky Herbst/Liz front and center.

SO glad Jake is alive. I can’t wait to find out the back story. Tony Geary was really great today–and I’m not usually that big a fan.

I thought the whole show was wonderful today–all week actually. It will be interesting to see if seeing Jake stirs any memories in Jake/Jason or if it drives Liz to tell him the truth.

There’s really compelling storytelling going on right now, we don’t need to perpetuate the lie.

Constance Towers is 82 years young, stunning and regally elegant…
Her poise and punch (to the gut) left me wanting more. Personally
thrilled TPTB got James to reprise his role as little Jake, it wouldn’t
have felt REAL without that beautiful little boy. Lucky will be bringing
little Jake home to Elizabeth today… Get the Kleenex !!!
Finally REDEMPTION for Luke……

Constance should bottle her aging secret and sell it to the masses! She is beautiful. Speaking of beauty, has anyone else noticed how much Emme looks like Donna Mills?

Donna’s another one who never ages what a beauty… Jane’s short
dark hair w/ the side bangs is so soft, she looks Radiant.
She’s been fabulous opposite Richard Burgi…
Emme is pretty, beautiful eyes.

Yes, Timmm. They have the same facial bone structure…except for the eyes. Emme’s eyes are gorgeous. Donna’s? They scare the weebie-jeebies out of me. LOL.

I appreciate the fact that Miss Constance’s legs can still compete with those of a woman half her age. Those Greta Garbo ‘gams’ speak for themselves…..’she got legs’.

I’m glad Jake was brought back love the actor. Will be a good storyline now Elizabeth has a son by Jason also. Helps her keep Jason I hope. I want Jason with Liz.

Van Hansis could play Lucky. He could grow his hair out and a lil stubble beard….

The show needs Lucky on the canvas , though and not away again. JJ can’t do it, so maybe a top she’ll recast.

I’m thrilled that GH has righted the wrong of killing Jake. It never made much sense to me to kill off A child with so much legacy blood. He is A Hardy-Webber/Quartermaine/Spencer, the future storylines abound. Emma & Joss fighting over Jake in a redo of Carly/Robin/Jason. Come on! The killing before certainly seemed to be driven by an agenda of the former regime to rid GH of anything connecting Jason & Elizabeth. It was right around the time they fired RH, if I’m not mistaken. And Guza even said in an interview that Jake had to die so that Jason could know that bad things happen even when they don’t involve the mob so that he could be a parent in the future and not look like a hypocrite. So ridiculous.

I can’t wait to see Rebecca Herbst’s performance with this reunion. She has been amazing and I’m so glad she has been given an opportunity to shine, even if I hate most of the current storyline for her.

So thanks Ron, Frank, ABC, & GH. Glad to have Jake back on the screen. And that its the same actor makes that much sweeter!

I cannot believe it but Liz seeing her son alive might be bigger than the Jason reveal?

It will be MONUMENTAL ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️

could not agree more… for the love of a child… vs… a lover…. i’m surprised that Liz and Nikolas haven’t thought out or discussed the repercussion

that she’s “dating” a married man?

I totally forgot that… LOL duh? the rings

Sam and Carly are going to be livid and beyond angered

but… somehow… “I love Liz”

so… I can over look all this

hence… all our preference of ideal story line

i’ll add in the chemistry Billy Miller has with his three leading ladies

Liz is a bona fide HIT….

I could easily see Liz… ultimately… getting her child back…
let the chips fall where they may… and leave it to BM’ character to make that decision…

his feelings from the get go… has been all Liz
irregardless if she was the first of his leading ladies to “see” him and spend more time with

the undeniable love between them already exists

heartwrenching for the torn between

Okay am I the one that has her fingers cross that Luke’s exit reveal will be Luke actually died from the poison earring and for the last year and half or so he has been living in an alternative universe a la the last episode of Lost– where his soul has to go through all his stuff to make peace his life before he can walk into the light?

Just think if that was true we could just wipe out the last year of stories and start fresh. It would explain all the holes in all the stories so far including how little Jake could be alive– we could have Jason be Jason, yes recast, but just Jason. We can have Nikolas act like Nikolas again. We could have Connie alive and well in somewhere, AJ alive and well, Ava wouldn’t have to be Denise because she never shot Connie– is that too much to hope for, to find out it was all a bad dream or a different universe?

Can you tell I’m not loving this exit story? If this is all true and not a alternative reality, then it is a giant cop out to rewrite history, to undo what was done, to take away Luke’s biggest mistake just because TG is leaving the show– now what? Luke is Mr. Perfect who did no wrong and he rides into the sunset with his white hat untarnished? Of course all the details are missing because Ron has to figure out how to make this latest “shocker” work, but my hope still stands, let this all a dream, or we find out Luke is still in the mental ward and he is imaging all of this stuff, something, to undo it all and start a new.

Brilliant Mary but I dont think they have the guts to write it your way.

Sounds like Pams dream on Dallas when they wiped out an entire year but i love your idea and wish it was true…much of the show in recent weeks is already a nightmare!!!

I do not think it is going to be a dream isn’t this the same little boy who played him originally. Mary I always thought Guza left tons of holes in that story. This is the thing for me is Lucky just going to drop him off with Liz and leave again? I am sorry but has JJ not showered since he left the show in how many years ago? I hate that look he looks like a homeless person.

Jonathan Jackson is sexy IMO

It looks like you’re right– it’s not going to be a dream or alternative reality, which is too bad because in my opinion it would have given them a way to fix a lot things in story line in the last year. Yes it is the same little guy playing little Jake, which is good because if they are going to do this, at least using the same child actor makes sense. And it is rather lame that Lucky, who loves this kid so much finds him and then leaves again, but this is the way it is being written so what can you do? Perhaps since JJ is touring with his band this summer, it is his rocker look– but he sure doesn’t look like the Lucky I remembered–LOL

So excited to see little Jake! Best return of the year so far! This will give “Lake” fans hope that, even when the you-know-what hits the fan, Jake will find his way back to Elizabeth and their son. That’s what we needed. This lie between them, and the eventuality of their breakup, is one of the things that has hurt ratings, IMO. They had such a beautiful love story. “I’ve memorized your entire face.” “You’re the one whose kisses I remember.” That kind of romantic “slop” is what we ladies want to see! Not Jasam/Liason war.

SWEET!

For the first time in so many years, this show has managed to completely surprise me!!! Little Jake’s death caused me to turn this show off for quite some time. It was a horrible mistake and I am thrilled that Ron Carlivati and his team have decided to right that wrong. And how amazing is it that they brought back the same little boy to play Jake? Little Jake has ties to GH’s legacy families and will provide story for years to come! I really enjoyed yesterday’s show and am looking forward to seeing the rest of this play out.

I love that little Jake is back! It was wrong that he was ever killed off. I can’t wait to see the emotional scenes when he is reunited to his Momma, Elizabeth. Becky Herbst will knock it out of the park & drive me to tears with her magnificent performance. She is just phenomenal!

Well, if Helena has Jake maybe Alan and Emily are on Cassadine Island as well.

Yes, perhaps Helena can bargain Emily for ELQ…Nik and Monica
would hand it over without a second thought….Tracy on the other
hand……

Or maybe they are all dead like the final episode of Lost and Luke hasn’t figured out he’s dead yet and living in limbo in an alternative reality until he does. It would explain all lot of weak points in this exit story.

That would be nice if they could return but Stuart Damon is 77 years old…he might not want to return and just enjoy his retirement!!!

Alan is alive and Emily. That’s the rumour out there.

Would be awesome if Alan and more of the Quartermaines came back. Maybe something about GH to get excited over??

LOL, Timmm. You better believe it…one’s .children trump everything and everyone.

Are they all in Quartermaine heaven?

Just another ploy to help Liz keep Jason. He didn’t stay with her when he found out about Jake’s birth so I don’t think it will have any other affect this time except one of his children is alive instead of dead (It is pretty creepy when they kill off a child, donate their kidney and then bring that child back from the dead. Does the child only have one kidney or did another child die, donate their kidney and is buried?) Liz is the most wishy washy character on daytime. She is always in love with another man when she has one on the string and usually the other man is already married or attached. I guess there must be women like that in every soap but geeze can’t she find one and settle down to her boring life. Jason belongs with Sam and there’s proof of that when the screen lights up each time they are even close. Liz and Jason not so much. Actually Rebecca Herbst doesn’t seem to like Billy Miller very much on screen so how can they be a couple?

GH will always be a special show for me because it was the first soap that ever captured my attention and imagination. Laura and Scotty, back in 1978 and 1979, while I was still a pre-teen – they were the bomb. And then Luke came in and although I wasn’t fond of him, the story seemed amazing to me. And I have and will always follow this show in one way or another, even if I don’t watch it from day to day and sometimes skip weeks or months actually seeing an episode – i will always know what is going on.

My last big stretch of watching was the late 90’s/early 2000’s where I held on daily for about four or five years, but eventually – and with the return of Guza and the absolute mob-ification (or was it Sonny-zication) of the show, I gave up daily watching. i tried again with RC – and while I initially applauded his efforts and bringing the OLTL characters on – the wheels started coming off the cart for me when he had to create new characters for the three OLTL actors, and those characters were sub-par compared to what they had been playing. And the introduction of Franco as an on-going character seemed to be a major turning point for me.

And as I’ve been watching daily again to see Luke’s swan song, the issues I currently have with the show slap me in the face daily. The show is a living cartoon! Yes, we had alien and freezing rays and lookalikes in the past – but even those outrageous stories were surrounded by other things that grounded the overall show. Not so much these days.

RC loves to take outrageous stories and over the top characters and play them to the hilt. There is no restraint. Once upon a time, characters would tend to come in and over the course of time, perhaps go over the top – over the course of three to five years though. Today, we have Ava and Franco and Nina and others who come on at a full force 9 or 10 of crazy and go from there – they come on doing things from the start that once upon a time, signaled that a characters time on the show was coming to an end. Combine that with plastic face masks that no one can recognize, and multiple back from the dead stories and imposters of one form or another and stories that CLEARLY change directions in mid stream with no care about what now doesn’t make sense. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the writing reminds me of myself when I was a kid and did my own stories/comic books – I would start a story with a general idea of where I was going – sometimes not – and I would just go where my imagination would take me, sometimes things making sense, sometimes less so. But that isn’t how a show should be written! It mucks with the whole base and structure of the show when nothing can be trusted, when any ridiculous thing can happen no matter if it makes sense or not, when outrageous and over the top characters are main characters and the audience is expected to take them seriously. When stories like someone’s parentage being established and then reversed and then assigned to other characters – and it happens to two characters at roughly the same time – making prior stories and connections make little sense in retrospect – you realize that there is absolutely no long range thought going into the show.

Watching this underwhelming story for Luke (and Laura), which for some reason I expected to hold so much more depth than it does (I know, call me crazy), makes me shake me head on a daily basis. Dead mobsters back to life, non-shocking revelations, dead children back to life – while on the other side of town Crazy 1 (Franco) and Crazy 3 (Nina) are walking around like normal people, and Crazy 2 (Ava) is somehow fooling the whole town with a black wig and fake accent, while normally level headed Dante decides to think the absolute worst of his wife and cheats on her in what had to transpire over a 48 hour period. And no disrespect meant, but while watching that dining scene between Luke and Helena, it occurred to me that on any other show, that would boil down to a scene between grandpa and grandma talking about their ‘hot’ games over the years and mutual hate/respect/love for one another – and yet it was all so … expected.

What saves this show right now on any level is the acting. The majority of actors on this show are quite frankly, awesome. Even while watching scenes with deeply troubling characters like Nina or Ava, I love the acting (and by troubling, I mean these characters are so poorly written in terms of longevity vs. past actions, they have no business actually being on the show any longer). It’s the actors that are selling these stories at all, and ti’s the acting that currently keeps me popping back in.

RC needs a writing partner – someone to reel him in, someone to ground him, someone to remind him that while yes, bringing a child back from the dead might right a wrong from a previous writing regime, to do so could hurt the integrity of the show. Someone needs to point out that when you change the end goal of a story AFTER you’ve been writing it for six months, it might be a little hard for the audience to just forget all the details that now don’t make sense with the new ending. He needs someone to let him know that he doesn’t have to pull out every cliche soap story and play them at the same time, sometimes the same general story with two different characters, and at full tilt on a constantly rotating basis.

There is a sense of fun in some of RC’s stories and there are often good ideas there – but the execution has steadily gone off the rails for a while now. If the show can get the stories to be worthy of the actors on this show – heck, I would even be happy with pulling the stories down a notch or two – I think GH could start climbing the ratings charts again – and of course, I would be happier.

Such an incredibly well conceived and expressed post. Every sentence has so much power and truth. My viewing habits for GH were/are very similar to yours – different periods of regular watching but keeping tabs while not watching.

There is SO much of Tony’s swan song that I am simply forcing myself to sit through – and I have always loved Genie Francis and have wanted her back on the show in a meaningful role. Now, I’m not sure I’m going to stick with it after Luke’s departure, for all of the same reasons you have laid out. It would be wonderful if anyone over at GH would coherently think of a way back from the edge so that the show would become viable again. I remain skeptical myself though. Many others must agree given the drop in the demos we have been seeing.

People need to Tweet, email, etc Frank V to reel Ron in. We’ve done it before.

Bravo, Mike. I am very weary of the cartoonish elements.

Perhaps all this time Ron and Frank were trying to right alot of wrongs ever since they were fans of gh along with us..and even the wrongs they may have done but not by choice with oltl when Star had to go through so much tragedy when cole and hope we killed off for her to fit with michael. John and nat breaking up for him to fit with sam and the vampire. And even todd and victor how the two would end up on the run from some un finnished plot done in by thier mother…we may never know those out comes but we do get to see things fixed and redone on gh because of ron and frank. Maybe not always the best of ways but atleast the show keeps alive the angst fun and drama of past shows and current all in one.

May have to come up with another screen name since there is more mikes than one haha

Just what we need on this show, another kid! Or should I say another kid that sits in the background. Where was Josselyn in those scenes yesterday? We haven’t seen her in ages. Who’s watching Danny these days? Seriously, why bring on all these kids when they just go hide and babysit themselves?

and another note, why is Sabrina still living at the Q mansion? She’s not a nanny anymore. Get a job.

She isn’t living there, she just dropped to see Tracy, her new BFF, and for some reason didn’t feel the need to leave the house after Tracy headed to the airport– LOL

Sabrina, Morgan, Kiki, Maxi, Franco, Nina, Denise, Michael,
Sam part- time …lots of unemployment in PC.
If Sabrina stays she needs to return to her roots.. Nursing.
Julian should hire Maxie to run the fashion section at the paper.
Morgan could work w/ Carly in Hotel Management.
Kiki needs to go back to school..follow TJ and Molly’s example….
You get my drift.

oh right, she isn’t living there, is she? Still has that nice apartment that she pays for with ??? same with Kiki. What does this girl do? And Maxie? Oh yeah, she’s a wedding planner – not sure where she got the credentials for that. Then there is that lazy a$$ Morgan, what does he do besides take his clothes of? Then there are the poor souls (like Patrick) That work all the time!!
yeah, Sabrina needs to get back to the Hospital. I actually wish she reconnects with Patrick. Michael is a loud drag and we know Patrick will be sans Sam soon.

So true about the children…Liz has three sons and you rarely see Aiden…Jake will probably somewhow trigger memories in Jason…then little Jake disappears for 6 months and returns as an adult owner of some big company without going to college or any other formal training…we’ll never see him work but he’ll have a nice posh apartment in the toniest side of PC or he’ll be a mobster who cant shoot dead his victim 3 feet in front of him unless it was some beloved vet who is brought back to the show just to be killed off…Sap should get a new nanny job but hopefully its in China…lol

I was heartbroken when Jake was killed off, putting the end to years of stories to come and a connection between the legacy families of GH! I stopped watching around that time and only came back recently! But I have to give props to the current powers that be for making me excited about GH again! Seeing Jake back in the form of his adorable portrayer packed an emotional punch and I can’t wait to see him reunite with his mom!

I don’t know how to feel about this storyline bc I’m happy that this kid is actually alive but it seems like they are trying to rewrite history and bring people back from the dead too much.

I’m so excited that Little Jake is alive and back on our screens. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Elizabeth reacts because I know Becky will kill it. She has been on fire since the Nurse’s Ball and owning every scene. This is Becky’s year and she is doing an amazing job. I smell an Emmy in her future. Having Jake back is just what Liz needs (besides telling big Jake he’s really Jason.) Killing baby Jake was a HUGE mistake because there was so much potential there for everyone involved. Thank you to Ron and Frank for fixing that big mistake and bringing not just any Jake, but the original baby Jake back that was perfection. James Nigbor is the perfect Jake. Viva Liason and their family!

I loved yesterday and can’t wait for today and Monday. So excited to see Lucky bring Elizabeth their son back. I am a real sucker for this kind of story. I also loved seeing Helena & Luke one last time. I really hope she will be back though. I love Constance Towers. Anyway… way to go Ron and Frank and Co. between this story and Lante finally getting some real drama and Sonny & Carly and a proposal next week, I am a pretty happy fan!

Kudo’s for RC/FV and their team for pulling off and righting the wrong in killing off Jacob Martin Webber Hardy Quartermaine Spencer Morgan!

I look forward to the scenes of Elizabeth/Rebecca Herbst finding out that her baby boy is alive and well!

Can someone the relationship between Monice and little Jake. I didn’t watch in 2011, I stopped watching in 2004 and tuned in again in 2013 and never got the full story on the whole Jake thing.

Monica is Jason’s mom (step mom technically). Little Jake is Jason’s son, making Monica Jake’s grandmother

Jake being killed was agenda to prop the lowest rated pairing in GH history. Liz is again doing that unfortunately, but at least she’ll have her baby back. Jason will still be the deadbeat douche he was before, but again, Liz has her boys so that’s all that matters. It just sucks that she must continually be bussed for JaSuck

FINALLY, a story that has meaning and ties up big question marks! They seem to be smoothing Luke’s edges off as he departs. I still think he will “Die.” I hope they have a good explanation about Jake’s “Death” and whose kidney is inside Joss? I loved the symbolism of the monster truck hitting Luke in the foot. THAT was a brilliant idea.

So now Jason has a child with Elizabeth, as well as, with Sam. Sooooo which family should he be with. Personally I’m rooting for Elizabeth and Jason. I like Sam with Patrick better.

Love that Jake is alive.
Love the Helena / Luke scenes.
Love the Carly / Elizabeth scenes.
Cannot wait for today =)

I’ve thought a lot about this, and I have to say it’s actually a pretty brilliant twist, and not just for the shock value, or to right a wrong from the past regime.

One: This elevates the story beyond a vanity piece exploring all the foes of Luke’s past for his exit.
It did a bit sloppily hop around from Jennifer Smith (who had a pretty weak and sick motivation) to Frank Smith (Oops! Not so dead… until now!) to Helena Cassadine (who needed to be featured in the wrap up somehow). But while it was NICE to see Luke risk his life for his Ethan-come-lately last-revealed son who isn’t quite the same level of “fan favorite” as Lucky, and it was GREAT to see Lucky return, albeit supposedly briefly, and fun to have Lulu involved in the shenanigans, none of it held any dramatic weight or long-lasting ramifications… until the possibility was revealed that Jake could be alive.

Two: Implications for Luke.
It is one of the biggest failings the character of Luke had to kill Jake in an alleged drunk driving incident, not know about it, claim not to have been drunk, angrily sit through an intervention, skip out on rehab, return to Port Charles not having stopped drinking… But at the same time, maybe Luke instinctively didn’t believe Jake had died at his hands? Jake being alive, not only cleanses Luke of the blood he would have presumably always had on his hands, but also possibly validates Luke’s belief that he isn’t an alcoholic and has more control in his life than others believed. It does work to redeem the more callous, reckless Luke and restore him to being more of a rascal than a drunk.

Three: Implications for Elizabeth & Jason.
One of the biggest, long-range implications are on Liz/Jason’s relationship, because now she has even more justifications for her own actions than before. She has shown regret keeping the truth from Jason and keeping his identity a secret from Sam and keeping a father out of Danny’s life… but Liz had Jason’s child first… So which child deserves to have his father in his life more? There’s no real answer to that question, all children deserve a chance to know and be raised by their parents, but now Liz can try to justify her choices by this potential do-over that she has been handed at having a family with Jason and their child Jake.

Four: Implications on Jason (aka Jake).
(Child) Jake’s return COULD be the trigger that restores (adult) Jake’s memory of his life as Jason, and what if THAT happens! He’d be aware of Sam and Danny, but also might not be aware that Liz knew the truth. Surely he wouldn’t forget all the time he has spent reconnecting with Liz and the new life he’s built… can he go back to Sam and Danny? And Sonny Corinthos? Would he want to? Would he stay and appreciate his second chance with Liz and Jake? Would HE reveal that he knows who he is? What a place to be stuck between, Liz/Jake and Sam/Danny, both pairings he has lost so much time with and so many wrongs to be made right. Where to start? How do you quantify all the wrongs and the missed chances, how do you compare them?

Five: Implications on (child) Jake.
This kid has spent five years growing up without his mother, his brothers, any semblance of family, with presumably Cassadine guards and Helena to influence his formative childhood years? Does he remember Liz or Cameron or Aidan? If he returns to live with them, will they feel like his family, or like a bunch of strangers? Will Liz be able to reconnect with her son that she lost five years with? This could be the most powerful aspect of the story to watch unfold. And all this went on without Nikolas’s knowledge? How is THAT possible? A time for reckoning approaches. Liz’s mother lioness should come out in the aftermath of this reveal and I wouldn’t mind if SHE was the one to kill Helena once and for all. And is the Cassadine influence still living in Jake? Is he now a dark soul with potential to be the bad seed middle child of Liz’s? What will Liz explain away of Jake’s behavior in order to try to make up for all the lost time with her son? Or will there come a point where Liz needs to show Jake tough love and stop Jake before he poses too much danger to the rest of the family? So even if Jake’s returned to Liz, can she ever TRULY have him back? Or is the Jake she knew really gone for good, dead from the night he had been taken from her? There’s SO much potential in the story of Jake’s assimilation back into the old life he was stolen from. My mind is reeling with the possibilities…

Overall, the bite of the story is well worth the bark, and Jake’s ties to the Spencers, Quartermaines, and now the Cassadines makes him an even richer young character to take GH into the future. Quite the legacy to come out of the exit story of legendary Luke Spencer.

davidevansmith,
it’s OK-
It is not real.. It really didn’t happen..
Just a story written for entertainment..
Nobody was hurt LOL
eh don’t take the fantasy too seriously if you do it will waste yah ..
hope you feel better 🙂

I am so looking forward to this story.. It will change lives! and that makes for deep involved stories.. I’m waiting for the story to roll out !

((good going RC, FV, Team.. the little dude needs to live 🙂

#4. Is where this is all snowballing…. Liz/Jake or Sam/Daniel.

what better way… to get Billy Miller BACK! with a vengeance …. FRONTBURNER… ala his emmy winning performances of Y&R on General Hospital

for such a strong enigmatic charismatic… endearing “best” actor to grace our screens, again ! (finally) and yes it’s at the expense of rewriting history… and bringing a character back from the dead )… dang! he was sorely missed after he left Y&R… if this is what it takes to storm front… “Jason” Liz, Nikolas, Hayden, and all the rest of the cast… who are fully supporting… and doing a bang up job… because this is what’s headlining

MARQUEE : Billy Miller is BACK

Rebecca Herbst is LEADING LADY STATUS

brings tears and emotion

I’ve inquired about this in a prior post : ????

Steve Burton’ Jason… and now bigger and better w/Billy Miller’ character fell in love with Liz first ???? and knew he fathered a child ? so… it’s like Liz was his first real love… and i can’t apologize … to Sam fans… the chemistry with Liz is replete with drama intrigue and stellar performances are on the horizon.

#5. gut wrenching sucker punched in the gut… loss for words

“… This could be the most powerful aspect of the story to watch unfold. And all this went on without Nikolas’s knowledge? How is THAT possible? A time for reckoning approaches. Liz’s mother lioness should come out in the aftermath of this reveal ”

wow… it really helps that it’s the original actor… back… who played Jake… and KNOWS Rebecca Herbst… and hopefully… now that he’s 4 years older… will ably adapt to his craft… yikes! if he’s any where close to acting like spence and emma… we are in for a big love fest (reeling from all the emotions : hurt, anger, betrayal, heartaches aplenty… even with him back) what a coop for Billy Miller and Rebecca Herbst… with Tyler Christopher… and Rebecca Buddig

can you tell I love this part of GH and these 4 top notch actors.. plus lil Jake

Patrick, hi..
What a great awesome post !!
I could {{{{hug}}}} you !!!

When did luke feel remorse exactly, when he was going around town saying that killing Jake was liberating, or when he continued to drink? They judt didn’t want Luke leaving being a rapist, deadbeat dad, drunk ,cheater, and baby killer. They at least could fix the child killer part.
I can’t wait for Liz to her HER baby back,Rebecca Herbst is gonna kill it. I just hope this is the catalyst for ending the completely OOC lie.

I am so happy they have James back, he looks so much like Steve Burton and he’s adorable.

I’m thrilled that young Jake has been brought back. I’ve wanted to see him brought back for a long time. He’s a strong legacy character with Hardy-Webber and Quartermaine roots and brings numerous storyline possibilities with his presence. I was shocked when they killed him off because there was so much potential for future stories. It was a bad decision back then and I’m so happy that Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini had the wisdom to bring him back. It’s terrific that James Nigbor is back to reprise the role. It makes the return of Jake all the more emotional.

I’m happy that Elizabeth and Jason will have Jake back. I’m looking forward to seeing young Jake with Cameron and Aiden. I know Rebecca Herbst will rock the scenes when Elizabeth sees Jake for the first time. It will be incredible. She’s a terrific actress. I loved the scenes with Elizabeth and Carly yesterday, so it will be interesting to see what their relationship holds in the future. I hope when the “secret” comes out about Jason that Carly and Elizabeth’s relationship isn’t fully broken apart. I’m a longtime fan of both Rebecca Herbst and Laura Wright and I like it when they get to do meaningful scenes together that aren’t just about the rivalry between their characters. I would like to see a true friendship between Carly and Elizabeth.

I’ve always enjoyed Helena and Luke’s bizarre relationship, so it was fun to see Helena being part of this story and being behind at least part of what happened to Jake. I’m looking forward to learning more about that.

YES! I’m happy Jake is back. I hated that s/l so much I couldn’t really watch GH much at all until Jakeson appeared. It was a convoluted s/l of how it all happened and maybe was told off screen. I’m a huge CT fan she makes Helena the best evil of all. I’m not a Luke Fan–sorry I didn’t care about his journey but was glad to see GF back back. So TY to TPTB for bringing him back.

Jake ‘fake’ died in 2011–4 yrs ago Silas but the scenes w/ Elizabeth and Carly were great. I just want Jake back with his family, his Mom and brothers. I wonder if Monica will now be involved & what this means for ELQ.

They really should have recast Lucky so we could see him with all the boys and his own flesh & blood son Aiden.

I look forward to seeing the outcome of this move just don’t hurt my girl too much with the reveal. Becky will be fantastic in these upcoming scenes.

So Liz is rewarded with little Jake while she’s lying to Sam, Danny, Carly, Michael, Sonny, Patrick, etc. Total BS. This came out of the HW’s butt because ratings are in the tank and they are desperate.

Luke n ever had any demons on killing a child. Am I watching a different show ? A child dies and loses a kidney. It wasn’t Jake so what luke was never sorry, still drank like a lush and so it wasn’t Jake .great for his parents all three of them, but no redemption for the drunken lush. goodbye Luke take Helena with you. Liz will be happy but, and I do like Becky and LIz she is still doing the same as Helena keeping a family from Jake adult. Danny is also his son, and has a right to a father even if he is the borg killer. I will have trouble feeling happy for Liz because of this. I have never liked Jason the dead above the eyebrows killer for hire child stealer , maybe its just karma for them all. Beauiful boy playing Jake wonderful to see Genie and JJ back. I would love to see Genie get some revenge on Helena but no such luck. If Nickalas knew what was going on , I am sick. He named Spencer after his family then destroyed it forever. Liz needs to get proof Nick obtained the shares illigelly, give it to Michael and Jake adult tell the truth and realize the last four years of guilt she actually felt for allowing Jake to walk out. Jake adult when he does get his memory back needs to realize he did the same thing to his brother keeping his son from him Kick nick in the how do ya do. The next time someone dies on the show , walking into the light should be pointing DOWN. frankenRon has turned everyone on the show dirty and evil. Even a child tried to drop sand bags on another child..

Yes, there are lots of holes in this story. IMO every story RC writes is full of holes and either drags too long or is on speed and makes no sense.

However, JAKE IS ALIVE and that is all that matters. Well, that and the fact that Becky Herbst is giving the most heartwrenching performances since her rape story, starting with the Nurses Ball (Which IMO was just awful except for Liz & Nikolas) and continuing through today’s scenes. She had me sobbing over her misery. And Liz is in misery right now.

As a Liz fan, I understand that she is far from perfect and has lied many times in the past, but before, her lies were usually in some stupid effort to help Lucky, or Jason, or Zander, or Emily, or whoever she thought would benefit. This is just plain selfish.

Also, RC just doesn’t get the Liason relationship or he gets it but is choosing to rewrite it in his own image. Most of her fans understand that she wouldn not have done most of the things RC has made her do. The way he sess her is not the way we do.

In the end though, all that matters is that Liz is getting her baby boy back. RC better not mess this up too!! Liz fans need a break from the non stop sadness and sorrow of the past 5 years! Please! Just a tiny little breathing room??

JAKE IS ALIVE and I am thrilled. The ELQ story, Jakeson having two sons and two families that he cares about, Liz dealing with the consequences of her choices while trying to help young Jake assimilate back into the fold, dealing with Nik, Helena, etc. and how Jake’s return impacts Monica, Michael, Tracy, Jason, and all of the Quartermaines is huge. And will Jake and Danny be more like AJ & Jason, Nik & Lucky, or Michael & Morgan as they grow up?

Way to go General Hosptial. You did a good thing today, not just for Tony’s exit story, but for thousands of fans. BTW, why didn’t you advertise that this might be happening if you wanted to entice viewers to tune in GH?

Thanks Ron, Frank, ABC, & GH. Glad to have Jake back on the screen. Well done!

very interesting to see how they will explain Jake dying in the hospital and having a kidney removed, post mortum for Josselyn… and no wait must have been a look alike body on that table cuz he’s actually alive?

it’s more plausible when they die alone or just assumed dead. But would be nice to know Luke didn’t kill the kid afterall.

I just watched early episodes of Liz’s son Jake’s return…I find it rather implausible…In my opinion, GH has made a huge mistake in that storyline. They left us hanging by not addressing how this could possibly happen. It claims Helena had Jake kidnapped, how was this done, didn’t anyone question were Jake was? Patrick and Robin operated on Jake unsuccessfully…he was brain dead, so how could he have survived? The kidney that Josslyn received, who did it come from ? Jake’s parents were convinced to allow his kidney to be donated to Josslyn(but there was no scar on him) Was Patrick just handed a kidney not knowing where it came from?

I remember a scene where Liz was in a cemetery kneeling next to a grave mourning her son, if Jake was kidnapped, whose body was buried there? surely a mother would know her own son. What kind of burial was it?

So many unanswered questions. I realize this is just a soap opera, but come on, we viewers aren’t that stupid. I wish the writers would go back to that storyline and explain exactly what happened. As it sounds now it’s too weird to make any sense even as a fictional reality.

Can anyone explain this storyline to me? Thanks

It is amazing how much James Nigbor looks like Steve Burton.
