General Hospital Nurses Ball 2015 Part One: The Red Carpet, 99 Red Balloons, The Proposal, The Bombshell!

Courtesy/ABC

Part one of the General Hospital Nurses Ball 2015 was jam-packed with action!

First, let’s start with the red carpet arrivals and who wore it best: Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) , Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), and Valerie Spencer (Brytni Sarpy) topped our choices, but all the ladies and gents of Port Charles stepped up their fashion game for the annual fundraiser to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS research.

Meanwhile Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), who snuck back into Port Charles wanted to watch the red carpet arrivals with bestie Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) as she had done last year. The duo watched all the glamour from Brad’s TV set, but were bummed at first that no one had a red carpet faux pas!

But alas, Britt and Brad’s gleeful moment came when Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) accidentely stepped on Maxie’s dress, just as Nathan (Ryan Paevey) walked with Ellie (Emily Wilson) as his date.  Brad and the Britch watched the fall with delight over and over again via the remote control!

Courtesy/ABC

As the Nurses Ball began, the traditional opening number went off without a hitch until it came to its conclusion.  Next, Dr. Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) once again held the audience hostage ,but this time with her rendition of “99 luftballoons” (red balloons) the popular hit tune from back in the 80’s! Obrecht took joy at popping each of the red balloons along the way, while she sang. The reaction from the those in attendance was particularily hilarious, especially that of hostess with the mostess, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) who was horrified!  Once Lucy was able to get Obrecht off the stage, the night continued with Ric (Rick Hearst) set to get Elizabeth to marry him by serenading her with the tune “Marry You” complete with images of their past together.  After Molly (Haley Pullos) gave Elizabeth a ring from her dad to open during his performance, and after Ric began to sing, it was Carly (Laura Wright) who pulled off her plan to out Rick’s heinous plot.  With the help of actor Pete, Carly walked out on stage, busted up the song, and Pete revealed that he was paid by Ric Lansing to pose in the faux wedding photos to Hayden making it look like Jake (Billy Miller) had plastic surgery.   Carly then continued to unravel Hayden (Rebecca Budig) and Ric’s scheme before a packed house at the Nurses Ball!  Next, Elizabeth stormed off and later slapped Ric for his duplicity.

Courtesy/ABC

Trying to get the audience to calm down and get back into the groove and fun of the ball, Lucy was able to get Brad Cooper to come up to the stage and perform a musical number.  Brad decided to perform an upbeat version of “Marry You”, but there was a surprise awaiting his date and boyfriend Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes) at the end of the performance.  Brad proposed marriage to Lucas!  Will Lucas say “yes”?

Britt, after learning Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) was badly burned in a fire, went to visit him at Wyndemere and gave him the courage to change his mind and show up at the Nurses Ball.  Spencer is now on his way to try to be with the girl he loves, Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer), who is at the ball with Cameron (Michael Leone).

But it was the conclusion of the episode that came as a shocker!  Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) went to find Elizabeth after what happened with Ric.  When he was talking to her, all Elizabeth could think about was Jake, and being with him, and how much he loved him.  But Nicholas blurted out that she can’t be with Jake, because  … he is really Jason!

Courtesy/ABC

Now viewers have to wait till Monday for part two of the Nurses Ball!  So, what were your favorite moments?  Who wore it best on the red carpet?

Will Lucas say “yes” to Brad? What will Elizabeth do with the information from Nikolas about Jake AKA Jason?  Did you enjoy part one of the Nurses Ball 2015?

Watch Kathleen Gati as Dr. Obrecht and Parry Shen as Brad Cooper in their Nurses Ball performances below, and then comment below on all the action!

I bet Lucy is happy others have been exposed(Ric, FakeJake, Hayden) at the nurse’s ball this year instead of usually just her…lol…speaking of fake, the worse was Maxi’s fall…that wasnt well staged…Lucas and Brad are more interesting apart than together…Bratt=Brad and Britt make a great comedy team…jmho!!!

Lol, jimh. Yeah, Lucy should be happy about that. But, it’s not the only thing. She has a rocking, hot bod. Her body is perfect…no flaws. WOW! She and Sharon (Y&R) have the best curves on soaps.

I dont see Nathan and Ellie as a couple…its a ruse to make Spin and Maxi jealous…to prove Spin really wants Ellie and Maxi wants Nathan…an obvious filler moment to drag out a Maxi and Nathan coupling???

@jimh.
Yup. That’s exactly what they’re trying to do.

PS, Jimh… It would be quite ironic if all this lovey-dovey play-acting between Nathan and Ellie would turn into the real thing, huh? Could happen…..

I’ve never been a big fan of Maxie’s-I thought the scene of her talking to the fashion correspondent was too contrived and awkward. Never been a fan of Spins-a “filler” couple, really-IMO.

this is the 3rd BALLS under RC/FV 1. the opening #….. “this is the Nurses’ Ball” w/ Epiphany leading, is always cute” looks a little understated, but unabashedly “cute” 2. Ric fallout… shuck… ( I hope this doesn’t mean he’s on his way out ) his character has SO MUCH presence… Liz wanted to run after Jake because she’s (ala) Cinderella… she’ll run after him… Nicholas tells her who he really is !!! No comedy never gets you the Emmy in Daytime–really should have another category, outstanding comedic performance by an actress, actor etc– since there are so few soaps beefing up the acting categories wouldn’t hurt–otherwise brilliant comedic performance will always be overlook in favor of dramatic ones.

Truer words were never spoken, Jimh- Kathleen is a true supporting actress- not only is she superbly talented but she raises the game for whoever is in a scene with her. She truly deserves an Emmy. One of my reasons for wanting Britt back is to get Dr. O in some scenes with Spencer- talk about a match made in soap heaven!

I waited all week for a write up/recap/review about Kristen’s return on DAYS. Nothing.

But heaven forbid GH go even a week without more press.

Well Jules,
GH rocks! It is always moving with events and shockers vets coming and going other guest stars entering and leaving and controversy..
So- there is always much to report on GH ..
The Nurses Ball is the event of Year, the cast shows their singing and dancing talents and the Ball has awesome shockers..
Us cool people love GH, it is not a traditional soap as the other 3 soaps..
GH can not go week without something moving lol ..

Yes, and GH is the only soap that moves with events and shockers vets coming and going other guest stars entering and leaving and controversy.
There is never anything else to report on any other soap.

Well I agree with you Jules, one of the reason I started to watch GH was this site mentioned it so often that if I wanted participate in the majority of posts I had to begin to watch. John being Paul’s father was covered — but I was surprised Kristen’s short story arc wasn’t mentioned — I mean her tumble out the window was a great soap moment, worthy of discussion, so lets hope it will pop up soon.

I’m really enjoying the start of the nurses ball, Elizabeth looked so beautiful, as did Maxie , Anna and Valerie. For the guys my top choices were Nathan, nikolas and jake. Dr. O was hilarious, Carly and her exposing ric, over dramatic as usual with anything Carly does. Elizabeth finding out bout jake has me worried, I feel RC is setting it up to have Elizabeth look bad by keeping this secret and setting up for a more favorable Sam and Jason reunion. Hopefully I’ll be wrong but RC is too appearant . So I’m not holding my breath either.… Read more »

Kalle, let us see what Lizzy does with this news?
Will she hold on to the secret (and by extension, hold on to Jason) as long as possible just as she held on to the paternity test which proved that Jason was the father of Sam’s baby?

What Rick did was terrible…but no more terrible than Nicolas not telling anyone Jake is Jason, or Carly not telling anyone Sonny killed AJ…or any numerous things anyone in Port Charles does. Every single one of the major players has hurt, lied, cheated, manipulated…cracks me up when they get all high and mighty tripping each other up. Didn’t Liz lie about Sam…or a baby…or something when she was trying to hold on to Jason at one time.

Sigh. Poor Rick. Even though he and Liz are done once again, I hope he’s staying in town…

Rebecca, I think what made what Ric did so bad was that Jake did NOTHING to deserve the crap Ric did, add in tried to send him to prison for life. Jake DID endanger lives, but of course, he was being programmed..But you are right. All the things you listed are also rotten things, just as bad as what Ric did!! Hi Laurie… Many in Port Charles hurt people who didn’t do anything to them…Both Sam and Carly ( and I love both of them) slept with their mother’s husbands. Those men were collateral damage…yet in a sense, they in turn hurt their wives who didn’t do anything to them! Sonny and Carly caused ridiculous hurt to AJ…because they wanted to keep Michael. As mentioned. Nic kept Jason’s identity a secret to further his own plans to takeover ELQ (his motives which I opined weeks ago), Britt wronged Sabrina to keep Patrick…then kept a baby that wasn’t hers because she grew… Read more »

I don’t know if it’s just me but the Nurses Ball didn’t look as big and grand as previous years. At least not yet. Maybe I got spoiled with Ron’s first NB, and Monday will bring some other surprises. I don’t watch GH regularly but, from what I’ve seen, the German woman is HILARIOUS. Watching her sing “99 Red Balloons” reminded me a lot of something the uber campy Sally Spectra would have done on B&B in the early 90’s.

The thing that hurts is it has been SO long since GH had a couple that had the kind of chemistry “Lake” generated. Hopefully Liz will tell Jake the truth before she beds him. Because if she doesn’t, it will be, for Jake, like ‘having sex with a stranger’. It would be just plain wrong for Liz to do him that way.

Go GH. Have my issues with the soap sometimes but so glad the Nurses Ball remains an annual event. And thank you for giving Elizabeth focus in recent weeks. Rebecca Herbst should always be forefront as her character is legacy and a tie to the history.

I’m happy that Nicolas finally told someone about Jake/Jason what upsets me is that it was to Liz who I would put money on is going to keep this secret to herself since (as been proven) the moment Jake knows he’s Jason he will go back to his wife and son. IMHO She’s about to become the biggest hypocrite of the year and pull a Rick to keep Jake. The red carpet was great and I was also waiting on someone to fall I loved the bonding time for Britt and Brad too bad she can’t stay longer Spencer seems… Read more »

My favorite part of the Nurses Ball was the Brad and Britt red carpet critique. They are absolutely a hoot together. Also, I think Britt is the perfect mother for Spencer.

They were hysterical! The only time that I enjoy Brad is when he is scheming or while in scenes with his bestie Britt-so funny! Lucas and he are nauseating-IMO.
I loved when Dr. O threw him off of the parapet at Wyndemere.

dmr, I concur. I don’t find Brad all that appealing and think Lucas can do so much better ( I find that those two do not have any chemistry) but Brad with Britt is a hit!

LoveNurse’s Ball. All soaps should have some episodes with this kind of fun. It’s a good diversion and great laughs. I felt like it was just off-center a bit, but I didn’t hate it. When I see Scott Sickles name on the script credits I know something happening, storylines are moving. Love that. I feel like the only person that loathed Ric’s song & Liz/Ric slideshow in front of all of those people. I don’t mind a song for the 1 you love, or a proposal, but those together with a slideshow-sugary!! No! Carly is just a hot mess but… Read more »

I am relatively new to the GH scene. I love how this show is written. It has drama and much needed humor. The scenes with Britt and Brad watching the Red Carpet were so real. Every gay man has his fairy princess to laugh and be silly with. It was so REAL. I loved that part. The opening number was so cornball I almost started laughing until Dr O stole the show. I love Dr. O. She is always so into her portrayal of this character that the campiness of it is forgotten. Love Katherine Gati. I used to hate… Read more »

So a newcomer sized GH that well, Mateo. You have been paying attn. General Hospital can be an acquired taste but you already have figured out the heart. It took me a while when I returned after a few yrs absence away from the last regime. I wasn’t used to Carlivati much, but for some OLTL shows. I finally caught on to the humor, camp, irony. I’ve never laughed so hard and cried so hard as with this regime. Soapy soap! I get viscous when folks that haven’t seen it rip it like they’re insiders. You must have a thick… Read more »

@jimh. I am very disappointed in Liz. What a selfish thing to do. How can she live with herself.!!!! Sam is not one of my favorite characters, but she has a right to know her husband is alive…there is a little boy, for heaven’s sake. My respect for Lizzie dropped a few notches and then some. I had a feeling she would do that. I was hoping to be wrong. Eventually, Jake will realize who he is all on his own….he will get his memory back in bits and pieces. I will say this, as Lucy reminded us that the Nurses Ball has been around, on and off for 21 years it got me to thinking what is wrong with it now. This is only what I recall but back in the nineties, maybe even the first year, the production values were top notch and I remember that the cause and the performances were front and center. Timmm, the performance numbers used to be top-notch and one after another- all focused on the talent-I agree, and it used to be held on a beautiful stage. It’s at the Metro Court now. Hi dmr and su…

I agree. They’re doing the best they can with the budget they have. All in all…the silly, zany numbers are just part of what separates GH from the rest…it’s full of drama and laced with the ridiculous…and I mean that in a good way. It’s just fun. Period.

I thought “Sabrina” did a great job. She looked gorgeous and has a show tune voice…great in the lead for that number. So fun to see both her and Felix back on the canvas…

The Milo number wasn’t as good as last year’s…but it was a cringe-worthy, lol, good time, nonetheless.

@Timmm….You have nailed it…..correctly and succinctly! This NB has been long on drama and VERY short on talent…..embarrassingly so. While I adored Dr. O’s opening showcrasher, and thought Anna’s tango was sheer perfection, that pretty much has been the extent of actual entertainment thus far….the rest was just extremely amateurish stuff. As for “Snorbrina?” Great moniker…..and call!!!!! I also knew the episode was shot to #&// as soon as Sappy appeared in that heinous, cringe-inducing production(?) number….I don’t know what was more excruciating: seeing her mugging in all her insufferable smug and self-satisfied glory for the camera or actually listening… Read more »

Thanks Shay. I’m with you on Fluke. Some people panned some or all of the Fluke story but like I always said, I would watch Tony Geary ANYDAY as opposed to some of the horse crap that they put in front of us. Plus, after April 1st, Fluke righted the ship somewhat and Laura will be back soon to help mend some of those Fluke fences. Shay..
The Nurses Ball is not a broadway production..
It is FUN event, nothing serious, just the cast showing other talents and fun entertainment…. it is nothing serious, and not meant to be taken seriously..
They are not professional dancers and singers, just people giving their all to give us a good time..
I like the ball.. I have fun watching it..
again..
It is not a broadway production.. it is a few cast members having fun dancing and singing for us.. and it is good entertainment..

Hi Shay, Kelly Monaco has learned many dance steps, controlling her breathing when dancing, and how to strut her body on DANCING WITH THE STARS. I would hope she is ‘better’ than the rest. She knows what to do with her body. I know…I am a professionally trained dancer. Great way to keep in shape. This was the first time I had ever heard Sabrina sing. I think she has such a rich, full voice…not at all grating. I am so sorry we disagree, Shay. But, you still like me….I know you do. However, I get it. I know the… Read more »

@CeeCee….While I enumerated my thoughts on Sappy in an above post, I wanted to add that, of course, I’m well-aware of Kelly Monaco’s extensive dance training….you know that I have always liked her character on GH, and thus, watched and enjoyed many of her previous DWTS performances….they were absolutely excellent! (And what a fantastic figure that girl has….) Therefore, given her outstanding capabilities in that arena, it beggars belief that Sam was not slated for her own routine on the NB stage when so many lesser talents were seemingly given carte blanche with some of the most insipid acts imaginable.… Read more »

@Timmm….Mind you, I had some real problems with that whole Fluke scenario….it will never ring true to me. I was thinking……Now that Hayden has nothing to lose, after having been exposed; there remains the fact that she is aware Nik knows Jake’s true identity. I bet she will blackmail him, either to help her out of this mess, demand money, or keep her as his lover…..or else.
Obviously Hayden has no clue who Jake really is, but she surely knows he “ain’t” Jake.

GH’s Ingo Rademacher Shares Insight With His Son On Parenting & Anger On Maurice Benard’s “State of Mind”

Maurice Benard has brought his State of Mind  to You Tube, and his guest for this week is none other than Sonny Corinthos’ longtime nemesis Jasper Jacks, Ingo Rademacher.

Rademacher decided to appear on State of Mind along with his son, Peanut, to talk about the incidents of parenting and anger when raising his children, and the effects discipline can have on the kids.

There are some very emotional moments within the segment, as Peanut opens up about his feelings when his dad was upset with him and how he dealt with  it

Ingo also shares how over the past few years his relationship with his son has approved, while Maurice offers key moments from his past with his father and his own son.

Per Maurice on the concept behind the show and his ongoing website: “State of Mind to me means being 100% present, feeling completely at peace inside of you, not letting your thoughts control your life and always looking for ways to be the best that you can be.”

Gregory Harrison Is The New Gregory Chase On General Hospital

General Hospital just got hotter as it beef’s up its storyline featuring Kim Delaney as Jackie Templeton.  Now comes word that TV veteran, Gregory Harrison has come to the ABC daytime drama series as the recast Gregory Chase.

The character of Gregory Chase was previously played by DAYS James Read, who plays the treacherous Clyde Weston now and then on the NBC soap.

With Harrison taking on the role of Finn (Michael Easton) and Chase’s (Josh Swickard) father, that makes things a little juicier in the romantic department.

According to EW.com who broke the casting news, Harrison begins taping today Wednesday at the ABC studios for General Hospital and fans can look forward to his debut on-screen in a few weeks.

As to the storyline: “Fireworks could be on the horizon for Harrison’s character.”

TV fans remember Gregory from the hit series Trapper John M.D., then later on Falcon Crest, Judging Amy, One Tree Hill and more.  He also has frequently appeared in Lifetime and Hallmark Channel movies most recently.

So, what do you think about the Gregory Chase recast with Gregory Harrison? Intrigued? Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Mike’s Funeral Brings The Alzheimer’s Storyline Full Circle to Its Heart-Tugging Conclusion

When a soap opera allows a full episode to stay in the story they are telling, it can often make for a riveting hour of television.  This was the case and then some on Thursday’s emotional ending to General Hospital’s Alzheimer’s storyline; when the character of Mike Corbin (Max Gail) was given a proper send-off – a funeral – and being eulogized by those who loved and cared for him.

When GH is at its best through the years has been when it tackles social issues of our time, and this story will stand among the iconic soap’s best.  The backdrop of the story was that of father and son, grappling with and coming to terms with the past, finding love, forgiveness and redemption against this most horrific of diseases that has afflicted so many.

In the episode, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright) go to church and prepare themselves for the emotional day as mourners come through and share their grief and condolensces and love for Mike.  Those included: Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth – back for this one), Stella (Vernee Watson), Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) and a touching moment between Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) and Carly where the legal eagle says to Carly that if she ever needs to drink and vent let her know.

As the funeral begins, one by one Mike’s family and friends say beautiful words of what he meant to them,. Michael reflects about how his grandfather loved to party and how he’d like them all to raise a glass for him. . Olivia, speaks on behalf of Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), and how close Mike and Dante were.  Ava (Maura West) talks about the love and kindness and joy he brought to little Avery.

Courtesy/ABC

When Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) got up to speak, things became even more heartbreaking when she flashes back to a scene where she was having a terrible time and Mike was there for – always a great listener- but he tells he eventually, he will not remember her.

GH did a outstanding job of selecting scenes throughout the eulogies that punctuated who Mike was … and how he tied in to all of the characters lives.  Jason (Steve Burton) shared how he knew it wasn’t easy for Mike to come back and try to make amends with Sonny, but that no matter what, Mike kept trying to get through to Sonny to make things right between them.

Courtesy/ABC

Stella’s moment was also heartbreaking recalling the man who became her friend.  Carly, who was the glue that held Sonny and the family together during Mike’s illness, shared her doubt if the family could handle Mike, and what was to come, but how Sonny helped his father find inner-peace..

When Sonny gets up to talk he reveals he had a lot of anger towards his father, and how the illness made him truly see the man his dad was inside.  Sonny tells his dad he is proud of him and how grateful he was that he came back into his life.   Next, Josslyn (Eden McCoy) sings as the mourners reflect back on Mike in a touching series of juxtaposed clips against the characters in the moment at the funeral.

Courtesy/ABC

After the service had concluded Sonny and Carly talk how Morgan and Mike are together now, but Sonny asks for some time alone in the church. It is then Mike appears and tells his son it’s time he forgave himself, since Sonny forgave Mike.  He tells Sonny that he has made him very proud.  As he gets up to leave he kisses Sonny on the forehead and goes towards the light and to heaven.  Just after that, Dante appears at the front of the church, shocking Sonny in a beautiful analogy that now this father and son must deal with what’s ahead in their relationship, just as Sonny and Mike had done.

Courtesy/ABC

This episode featured beautiful work by Maurice Benard, and Max Gail and everyone in the supporting cast who had their moments.  It was an ensemble piece but led by Benard and Gail, who should both be receiving Emmys in 2021 for their work..
