General Hospital’s Carly and Drew Break-Up as They Both Know the Truth: “You’re Going to Put Jason First Every Time”

It looks like the end of the line for GH’s Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) now that Jason (Steve Burton) is back in the picture as Drew finds out this week that his brother is alive. As viewers know, there has been trouble brewing in the relationship between the two since Drew’s personality change after he came back from his prison term, thanks to Nina (Cynthia Watros).

Drew has been hell-bent on making Nina pay, become super intense and his attitude shift has worried Carly. However, at this point, they had stayed together.  Now comes the topper, Jason is back and Drew knows that his brother is always number #1 in Carly’s heart whether as a friend or in the romance department.

According to Soap Opera Digest in key scenes, Carly is a bit blindsided when Drew seeks her out knowing Jason is alive and upset that Carly didn’t tell him … and that of course, she will defend him when he is still being considered a suspect in Dante’s (Dominic Zamprogna) shooting.

Photo: ABC

Laura Wright explained as their argument escalates, “You see that the rug gets pulled out (from under Drew) the second Jason comes back. Drew is just like, ‘You’re going to put Jason first every time.’ And Carly says, ‘I can’t tell you that I won’t put Jason first.’” After that declaration is over, Drew tells Carly he can’t deal with that, and breaks up with her.

The quick break-up surprised even Wright and Mathison when they got their scripts, with at one point, Cameron texting Laura, saying (according to Wright), “What the hell?!”

Photo: ABC

Carly will spend no time trying to go after Drew at the moment, as her attention is squarely on finding and helping Jason, when it appears no one else is believing his innocence, including a doubting Sonny (Maurice Benard).

So, happy that Drew and Carly are about to break-up? Do you want them together? Where does this leave Jason and Carly? Will they ultimately be best friends again for life, but not a romantic couple on GH? Share your thoughts and hopes for the story between the two brothers and Carly via the comment section below.

the show is spiraling downward fast-from great stories to pretty bad ones

This is what the ‘new’ writers have planned: going back to Snarly, Sonny and Jason all the time, telling the same stories for the millionth time. And they wonder why nobody watches anymore.

(The ratings last week were almost below 2 mil again, so naturally his return will almost surely be higher, and the powers that be will spread the word that GH is back! )

Yawn.

Frankly, I find Drew very annoying and wouldn’t mind seeing him leave PC. Of course, that’s not going to happen because of Scout. But I really wish they could cut him from the cast and save the money. Let the flames of enraged fans begin. :0)

agree

I liked Billy Miller’s version of Drew, but unfortunately the writers reuined the character when they brought him back solely to be a love interest for Carly. Jason has always put both Sonny and Carly first, not just Carly. The love of Jason’s life is Sam, not Carly. I just hope the new writers don’t screw up and put Jason and Carly together. I’d rather he stay single and build a relationship with his two sons.

I agree!! Drew is the WORST!! Boring as, well you know , I can’t type it

I had a feeling that was coming.

YAY, a thousand times yay.
Time for Drew to leave. He never had chemistry with anyone especially Carly.

Drew is not going anywhere accept back into Carly’s arms where he belongs

Not a fan of Carly and Jason! Please don’t go there! They can be friends. I would rather she get back together with Sonny!

No way

I had believed actors were not allowed to comment on upcoming events, re the text message. None of these scenes have aired, well at least in Canada..

Well, it is Carly’s world, after all.

I never thought Drew and Carly had chemistry. It looked so forced and the fact that the powers that be put her with 3 brothers was bothersome. I’m all for the break up but no romance between Carly and Jason. Their relationship as besties is perfect. Now if we can just get Sonny out of his fog, away from Ava, and back to the Sonny we all love.

To be honest, several couples the old writers forced together don’t have chemistry. Carly/Drew, Sonny/Nina, Liz/Finn and some say Sam/Dante, but I like them together. But since this is the Carly show, the new writers may put Jason and Carly together.

I think Sam and Dante have incredible chemistry. They seem to me like a real comfortable; there’s an attraction and yet an ease between them. The relationship is equal; not “macho” man Jason leaving the lil lady at home as he plays enforcer with his favorite person in the whole world, Carly, and his father/brother/mentor, Sonny. Sam and Jason were great decades ago when they were the black clad motorcycle young rebels, but now, Sam is a mother of two and has a great, balanced, life with Dante. I’d hate to see her settle for second best again with Jason; she should never have left Billy Miller’s “Drew.” The show screwed that up; they were great together too.

Drew has gotten really squirrelly since Pentonville and his rabid desire to see Nina pay. I
wonder now though if he will turn that anger on Carly..Sam took Jason over him Ned now he told Carly he knows Jason will always come first.Cinsidering he went to jail for her I think I would be ticked if she dumped me. Will he decide to make Carly pay as much if not more than Nina since Carly won’t be the voice of reason anymore telling him to let his anger go.

It’s time for Cameron Mathison to depart. Had high hopes when his version of Drew debuted in captivity (with Liesl trying to escape Cassadine Island). Total lack of chemistry with Carly. Bad writing choices in never revisiting the Jason memories portion. It was like his Drew was an entirely different character than Billy Miller’s.

Aw Billly Miller. He was Drew 100%. Billy is remembered and very missed. Hope he is in a better place.

Very touching words Brian. The deaths of Billy and Tyler were so tragic and such losses.

I quit the show when Billy Miller left never will come back I expect CM to depart as others to cover Burtons salary

I don’t know who is being the bigger hypocrite right now… .its’ either Hallmark Drew, being jealous of the brother who saved his life… or TJ – who’s been peripherally involved in Corinthos Coffee LLC since he was a kid – with both of his parents working for Sonny at one point, and him being with Sonny’s niece most of those years – now suddenly worried about his bio baby mama being Sonny’s daughter.

Hopefully this is a parting shot of sabotage from the old writers, and NOT from the new team, or this is not a good sign at all. We do know the old writers were doing some history revisionism with NuJagger, so this crap from TJ & Drew would be consistent with that.

I wondered about that myself, kind of hypocritical ?

I also wondered if the old writers are to blame for the character inconsistencies. But after today, with Heather’s storyline, I fear it could be the new writers.

Since the new writers were listed on the opening credits of Friday’s episode, that should mean they are now completely on their scripts. So the new writers apparently decided they want to redeem Heather, but the way they are going about it is completely stupid. Just as it was when previous writers thought they could excuse serial killings with a brain tumor. Cobalt poisoning from a bad hip replacement would be even less likely to have such results.

And as far as redeeming Heather… she’s been psychotic since the late 70s, so nobody’s going to believe it if she suddenly becomes a completely sane grandma who wants nothing more than to take care of Esme’s poor baby who’s over a year old now and still doesn’t have an actual name.

Gonna give the new head writing team some props for correcting some of the wrong paths of the last decade+.

Alexis back on her path to a legal career.

Marshall’s misdiagnosis wrapping up with him likely on the way out of PC.

Carly at Crimson nixed before it fully took hold.

And yes, Heather. Was she unstable back in the day (yes – as commemorated in “Heather’s having an insane attack” line in General Hospi- tale”. She didn’t kill Diana Taylor – Heather’s mother did. She left town in the 80s as normal as Heather gets. It wasn’t until she returned to swindle Edward after Lila’s death (a horrible plot) that she became close to wackadoodle. Is the cobalt poisoning far-fetched? Sure, but it’s one of those cases where soaps can cause you suspend some disbelief.

Her making Laura her medical proxy without even mentioning Steven Lars was a bit off. I guess we’re supposed to assume he’s still incarcerated. As for family, Drew and Jason are distant blood relatives. Laura is her adopted niece by marriage (dating back 45+ years)!

The character of Drew as now played is horrendous. Needs to be recast. Jason was always Carlys protector. They are loyal to each other. LOVE sonny and Ava together. Completely over Nina’s whining and the character. Hate the whole Davis girls mess. Alexis needs a strong man and back to law. Would be nice to see Avery and Donna together and with Scout and Violet. Need to start building Aiden, Rocco, Jake, Charlotteand others storyline Emma should have been there for Spencer story, they were very close as kids. Like Joss and Dex, Maxie and Spinelli.
.

Drew and carly will break up and that will not happen. They promise me to be together as couple. And if was me to tell jason Drew and carly they are in leadership

I have a bad feeling that the so call new writers will just follow some mandate and turn the show again into the not so great 4some of Carly, sonny, jason and sam. everything will revolve around them, and its them against everyone, where they are always right about anything and everything, God, I hope I’m wrong but I’m bracing myself. Even Cameron Mathison knows that, he better pray they bring in Rebecca Budig, otherwhise he’ll be playing second fiddle to Steve Burtons Jason. meanwhile I’m gonna start praying the show “new” writers will prove me wrong and write a balance show.

As opposed to what it’s been the last two & half years, which was a complete toilet spiral.

Does that include all the Carly centric writing?

No, the last two years it’s been all Nina-centric writing. Most of which was about her obsession with Carly.

The “granny wars” as they’re referred to on social media have run their course. Both characters were equally prominent. Carly, however, had a much larger support group. Nina had Ava and the occasionally seen Valentin and no-longer seen Liesl.

That was the biggest mistake that Drew made bc of Jason and Carly, yes Jason comes first bc they have known each other for decades on the show, they are just friends nothing else other wise. Jason and Carly are not even married. Drew could still be with Carly and they should get back together. Jason and Nina will both pay for this since they are both responsible for their break up

Carly need to decide go back to drew they are to be together as a couple not gave on each other and drew need to away from nina she deserves go to jail where she belongs and carly and carly have more peace in leadership

I just started watching GH again. Back in the day. It was centered around the hospital and people that worked there. I hardly see the hospital anymore. I want something more.

Drew cain needs to look deep down inside of him and he can’t not to have a Leadship with Nina and Jordan. Only person to have Relationship with is carly spencer and to work on there problems

Drew and carly need to go back to be together again and start. They promise Me do not give up on each other.

Carly need to put draw frist in her life and nor jason. Drew is in love with carly

Drew and carly do not gave up on each other and you guys are belongs to together. And great Couple. To work on problems and it out. To have Batter Leadship on each other greatest Couple I know

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
