GENERAL HOSPITAL: Cassius Shares an Emotional Goodbye; Sonny Remembers Losing Morgan as Lives are on the Line

The men of General Hospital were the standouts on the action-packed drama-filled, Wednesday, July 1 episode of the ABC daytime drama series. First up, in the pick-up from Tuesday, Cody (Josh Kelly) is able to listen to his cellphone messages and realizes there is one from Felicia (Kristina Wagner) who tells him to keep James (Gary James Fuller) away from “Nathan,“(Ryan Paevey) because he is not who he says he is.
When Cody turns back, he sees “Nathan” leaving with James. Next, Cody was able to intercept “Nathan” when Cassius realized he knew the truth. “Nathan” tells James he has to leave town. Confused why his dad was leaving so suddenly, Cassius tells him that he will hear some not nice things about him and most of them will be true, but assured the little boy that he loved him more than he thought he ever could have.
In that moment, Ryan Paevey delivered in what was his best performance to date with tears flowing down his cheeks. Cody promised Cassius he would keep a close eye on James. After Nathan walks away leaving James devastated, he goes to an empty parking lot where he reveals a vehicle with Ontario license plates and a bag in the trunk filled with a fake Canadian passport and cash. He keeps a photo of himself and James and tosses his wallet out the car window and drives away. Where is Cassius headed?

SIDWELL HAS A DEAL FOR SONNY
At Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) office, because of the threat Sidwell poses to his loved ones, he asks Gio (Giovanni Mazza) to move out for his own protection. Gio wants to stay with his Uncle Sonny. However, Sonny begins to get very emotional in touching moments played by Maurice Benard, where he recalls the death of his son, Morgan, who was the same age as Gio and that the death of his son haunts him till this day. Finally, Gio agrees to leave and temporarily stay back at the Quartermaines (or at least, that’s where we think is going).
Back at Ava’s art gallery, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) has Justine (Nazneen Contractor), Ava (Maura West) and Ethan (Nathan Dean) at gunpoint. He was to take Ava as his hostage. She stands up to Jenz that Marco would be disappointed to know that his own father tried to kill the love of Marco’s life, Lucas Jones, her nephew.
Angered, Jenz fires a shot, and Ethan jumps in front of Ava as Justine lunges at Sidwell. Next, Ava and Ethan barricade themselves in the art gallery storage room but its revealed Sidwell shot Ethan in the butt and he is bleeding badly. Ava tends to the wounds as the two spar with words.
Out in the gallery, Sidwell forces Justine to call Sonny on speakerphone and instructs him to come to the gallery alone. Once, Sonny arrives, he finds Justine at gunpoint and Sidwell telling Sonny that his next decision could decide Justine’s fate!

FROM CPR TO LOVERS?
At Turning Woods, Nina (Cynthia Watros) walked in on a passed out Jack (Chris McKenna) who was tied to the bed with a tank of carbon monoxide next to him, thanks to Cullum. Nina screams and tries to save Jack via CPR. Once Jack is able to breathe again, he yells at Nina to shut off the tank of carbon monoxide. Now that Nina knows Cullum tried to kill Jack, she bribes the Turning Woods staff to move Jack to a different room under an assumed name.
Joe (Jonathan Bennett) is being treated at the hospital by Lucas (Van Hansis). Dr. Jones informs Joe he has a concussion, but Joe says he has to tell the PCPD that “Nathan” is Cassius Faison and Sidwell is on the loose. Lucas needs Joe to relax while he treats his head injury. Later, Joe brings up the syringe of saline found in Britt’s room, which shocks Lucas, as to why would Britt inject herself with saline, knowing full well they have believed she is dying from Huntington’s disease and the drug was to ward off her symptoms.
At Wyndemere, Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) managed to trip a wire and unlock the door to the secret room. However, when Josslyn opens the door, a WSB agent is waiting for them! Upstairs, Carly (Laura Wright) begged WSB agent Harker to let go so she can reunite with her daughter. As the agent turned his back to take off his suit jacket and get his weapon, Carly grabbed a fire poker from the mantel. Next, she took a swing at him! We fade to black.
So what did you think of the performances of Maurice Benard and Ryan Paevey? Where is Cassius going? How will Sonny save Justine? Will Carly get to Josslyn in time to save her? Weigh-in via the comment section, but first check out the scenes between Josslyn and Obrecht below as they find their way to freedom, or so they thought!
What was fairly unique about Wednesday’s episode was that every scene tied back to the “A” storyline.
The writing was spot-on and there was even some subtle nods to history. Don’t think we’ve seen Amy in about a year, yet she is there to hear the reveal about “Nathan” – her friend from the (horrid) Man Flanders storyline.
There were bits of comic refief from Joss/Liesl – the pair we never knew could work. More characters were shown in one episode than is normal these days.
Overall, one of the best episodes of the year!
They always bring in Amy to play the token yenta and then she disappears.
She would be one person Nathan would never forget, but Cassius couldn’t remember.
Since when does the outside of Wyndemere look like the back of an industrial warehouse, complete with loading docks, and apparently the length of multiple football fields?
Didn’t this used to be a stone castle??
As far as Cassius goes, was this really his exit, considering the car & passport in his possession would suggest he’s just taking a short trip across the border.
Remember before things went “south” on the pier a few months back, Jason & Britt’s original plan was to sneak into Canada, “reverse engineer” her medication there, and after that problem was solved, probably come up with a plan to take down the Legion of Dumb from their remote location.
If this Canadian hideout was a Faison family property, odds are that’s where Cassius is headed. Will Britt go there to find him right away, or will she wait another couple weeks until Jason is back.
And the most important question of all….
Do my dragons get a holiday dinner this weekend? (Probably Cullum. Less likely Sidwell. Doubt it’s both)
After this escapade is over, Spoon Island needs to be retired for a while. A remodeled Wyndemere can return sometime in 2027 when Nikolas (and Spencer) return.
I thought the camera shot of Nathan / Cassius’ passport & Canadian money was quite funny as those banknotes haven’t been in use for almost 40 years.!! 🙂 I hope it isn’t the last we see of him but also let’s not have him end up behind bars either.
Why do they keep saying the car bomb that killed Morgan was meant for Sonny. When it was meant for Julian. Ugh. Now, sonny is believing it
It’s a ridiculous rewrite. The only “contribution” Sonny made to Morgan’s alleged “death” (he’s not down here, that’s all I know!) was a genetic predisposition to Bipolar mental illness. And that was hardly something Sonny chose for his son.
And even then, that wouldn’t have been a factor, if Ava had not tampered with Morgan’s meds. Prior to Ava’s tampering, Morgan was stable and was getting on with his life. Then he found himself stuck in the middle of a Jerome on Jerome crime spree, because a third Jerome put him there.
None of that has anything to do with Sonny.
Now as to the question of whether Gio would be safer in Sonny’s house or on the Quartermaine estate…. haven’t there been a LOT of crimes on the Q estate in the last few years? (yeah, Sonny committed one of them, but that’s beside the point). Even when half the PCPD was living there, Willow still had her own personal crime spree going on.
Morgan liked penguins. He took the up escalator.
The actor that surprised me the most was Ethan (Nathan Dean.) I thought he was just an okay actor, until I watched today’s episode. Wow. He got great direction, and his acting was amazing! The show’s been on fire, again, but Nathan really impressed me with his acting skills. I think his eventual pairing with Ava is really, really smart.

GENERAL HOSPITAL Preview: As Dante and Elizabeth Grow Closer, the Green-Eyed Monster Has Gotten Hold of Ric

In the GH video teaser for August 17-21, while Dante and Elizabeth are enjoying some time together, a jealous Ric warns Lulu (Alexa Havins),”There is a growing connection between the two of them. And if we don’t break it, you and I are going to lose the loves of our lives.”

Elsewhere, Drew (Cameron Mathison) is determined to destroy Sonny (Maurice Benard) by any means possible. He hopes teaming with Ms. Ava Jerome (Maura West) is the ticket to make it happen. “Together, we can take Sonny down,” says Drew to Ava over drinks. Is GH heading for a Ava and Drew pairing, next?
Then, as previously reported, Carlo Rota is back as Jenz Sidwell after the character was sentenced to Pentonville for 31 years for his crimes. Sidwell’s first visitor seems to be Sonny Corinthos, who has made it known to others in Port Charles, he wants to take over Sidwell’s business assets.
“It was only a matter of time before you showed up,” Sidwell snarls, as we see the prisoner meet his arch nemesis in the visitor’s section of the prison. Sonny sees Sidwell and snipes, “Beige is not your color.” What is Sonny hoping to gain from a conversation with the nefarious criminal who tried to destroy his life and those who he loved?

The former Michael Corinthos of General Hospital, Chad Duell, will participate in a livestream chat to discuss his new foray into music, his time on the ABC soap opera and much more. Circle, Wednesday, August 19 beginning at 7pm ET/4pm PT, when Chad visits You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Recently, Duell has launched a new side of himself under the musical name “Duelly” and has released two EDM-style tracks. The most recent, Static in the Quiet Room which dropped in August, and previously If You Need Me which dropped in June. In his new musical venture, Chad is said to primarily be the songwriter, producer and pianist on his tracks.
Previously, Chad stepped away from his Daytime Emmy-winning role as Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) son after a nearly 15-year run. A decision he made towards the end of 2024. Viewers last saw his version of Michael on the January 21, 2025 episode where Michael was recovering from severe burns and injuries suffered in the penthouse explosion at Sonny’s. The character was recast with Rory Gibson, who debuted at the end of May 2025 during the GH Nurses’ Ball.

CHAD ON DECISION TO STEP AWAY FROM GENERAL HOSPITAL
Chad has previously sat down for a conversation on The Able Show seven months ago, where he doubled-down on his decision to walk away from General Hospital when he did. Duell explained, “I’m blessed to be part of that (show) for as long as I have. But what happens sometimes is if you’re doing the same thing, especially in a creative field for such a long time, you can get a little burnt out in a way. It can make you a little depressed, so that’s kind of what happened.”
Sadly, Duell suffered the devastating loss of his beloved father in 2024, which also was very difficult for him as he detailed, sharing, “On top of that, I had other things going on in my life at the time. My father passed away recently and I just needed a reset. So, I stepped away. A lot of times you have to go through some stuff to really step into that next level. I needed to kind of feel uncomfortable.”

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Is ‘Jarly’ the Best Relationship in Soaps? Should Jason Go Work for the Quartermaines?

General Hospital’s Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason’s (Steve Burton) bond will never been broken, and they reaffirmed that on the Friday, August 14 episode of the ABC soap opera.
For the first time since making his decision to leave the mob and work for Sonny (Maurice Benard), Jason sits down with Carly in her kitchen and breaks the news to her. She is shocked.
Jason explains that his time in Jakarta imprisoned by the WSB gave him time to think, and that he came to the realization his priorities are mixed up and he needs to put his son, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) first. When Carly asked how Sonny took the news, a tearful Jason explains that Sonny understood. Carly defends Jason’s decision as the right one.

Photo: ABC
The two share a heartfelt moment from across the kitchen table when Carly takes Jason’s hand and acknowledged how difficult it must be for him, considering his loyalty to Sonny all these years. That prompted Jason to apologize to Carly for the all times that his loyalty to Sonny had to come first over his loyalty to her. Carly says she married Sonny five different times and had his children. She understands it’s difficult to walk away and about loyalty, through her tears.
LIFE AFTER SONNY
When Carly asks Jason what is he going to do now, Jason tells his bff he hasn’t figured that out yet. Carly can’t believe she’s going to say this, but the Quartermaines could use his help. She believes Jason has a perspective that could help Ned (Wally Kurth) and Michael (Rory Gibson) at ELQ and Tracy (Jane Elliot) would love to have Jason at the company. Jason says he has to think about, and that it can’t interfere in his relationship with his son.
At the end of the discussion, Jason and Carly love lives are brought up. Let’s not forget, they previously married each other in September of 2021. This is when Sonny was presumed dead, only to show up before the final paperwork was signed, which nullified the best friend’s marriage to each other, and they suddenly went back to being friends.
NO QUESTIONS ON THEIR CURRENT LOVE LIVES
Now in 2026, Carly wonders if Jason told Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) he has left the mob, to which he informs her he hasn’t told her yet, while Carly tells Jason she will keep her relationship with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) out of their friendship.
They both know the other is not too happy with their current romantic partners. But, whether Jason and Britt can actually get back on sound footing, and pick up where they left off before Jason was taken by the WSB, is still left to be seen.
In the end, any scenes that showcase the ongoing bond between Jason and Carly in the hands of Steve Burton and Laura Wright, is always moving and played to perfection by these two long-running staples of the General Hospital brand.
So this all begs a few questions: Should Jason go work for the Quartermaines? Do you think it would be interesting to see him in business, or do you think he would hate it and be bored? Do you think of all the friendships on the current landscape of soap operas still on the air that Carly and Jason’s is one of the best? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
