GENERAL HOSPITAL: Drew and Nina Get Physical; Were You Surprised or Did You Expect it to Happen?
On the Tuesday, April 9th episode of General Hospital, Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) explosive relationship just turned up the heat another notch.
In story, Nina who was responsible (although she doesn’t see it that way) for Drew being sent to prison for insider trading when she tipped off the SEC, let out her feelings to him about how to get back in the good graces of her daughter, Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Michael (Chad Duell). In doing so, she asks him for his help with it.
For months, the two have had nothing short of contentious moments, where Drew has not let Nina off the hook for what he did to him, or to his ex Carly (Laura Wright). Fast-forward and when alone in the Crimson office, Nina brings up wanting to stick it to Carly again.

As they banter back and forth, Drew can’t figure out why he should help Nina at all with any of her manipulations. Suddenly, as he tried to exit, his shirt rips and exposes his bare chest and abs, and Nina get quite an eyeful. From there, things become physical and before you know it, Drew and Nina are making out and having their version of hate-sex.

Cameron Mathison spoke to Soap Opera Digest on the shocking turn events, sharing, “I didn’t see it coming at all. I really didn’t. I think the audience did. Cynthia did some appearances and I guess the audience was ‘You and Drew, there’s some sexy chemistry there.’ I was like, ‘Wait, what? Really?’ I didn’t even get it. So I love it that it was very unexpected. The writers saw it, too. And, I love that it’s not a typical way for two people to be … physical. I was gonna say intimate, but there’s not a lot of intimacy there. And then as soon as it’s over, it’s back to arguing and giving each other crap again. It was really cute and really well done.”
As the fallout for their office room romp will air on the Wednesday April 10th episode, just how will the two deal with the fact that they had this fiery passionate moment in the weeks and months ahead? Will this be Nina’s new plot to get at Carly to be seen with her ex? Will Drew and Nina never speak of this again? (Well, this is a soap opera, after all, that’s pretty doubtful), or is this part of a major reset for some of the characters on the canvas now that Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte are co-head writing the show?

Speaking on the aftermath of the tryst, Mathison added, “The two of them are both like, all right, let’s forget about that and move on. It’s like a weird kind of aggression attraction. There’s obviously attraction there, but I don’t think either of them expected it, and I think they’re both totally shocked and surprised by it. I think Drew gets a kick out of it whereas Nina is a little embarrassed by it.”
Now let us know, did you see this coming? Did you think Drew and Nina would have sex? What do you think of the story turn? Comment below.
I’m not mad about it, They’re in the same boat relationship wise, so they might as well just go for it.
Nina only wants Drew because (in her mind) she’s stealing him from Carly. Just like she did with Sonny, and the Metro Court. And tried to do with Carly’s kids, when she thought she could send Carly to prison.
Drew should know better, but he’s either thinking with the “wrong head” or not thinking at all, which seems to be a habit of his since he got the beatdown in prison. Which of course was also Nina’s fault, that he was there.
For the love of all that’s unholy, there better not be a Nina pregnancy resulting from this.
I hate to sound like Nina but “Drew committed a crime!” It’s HIS fault he was in prison. Nina could have called the SEC every day for a year, but if Drew hadn’t committed a crime (or more accurately taken the fall for Carly’s crime) then he would not have been incarcerated.
Watros looks darn good for 55, but even if she didn’t have the storyline of early menopause, they’re not going down the pregnancy route.
The Carly centric writing has gotten even worse with Korte’s accession to head writer. Drew sacrificed his freedom and time with his daughter to save Carly. Jason sacrificed his freedom and time with his children to save Carly. Moreover, he left her half of his estate while leaving 25% to each of his sons. Why he left Carly the bulk of his estate when she was a wealthy woman at the time the will was drafted, I will never understand. I guess we are supposed to understand that all these men see Carly as a goddess rather than the coarse, low brow loud mouth that she really is. I used to like Carly when she was written as a complex, messy, fallible but vulnerable woman. The superhero and unrealistic writing afforded to Carly has ruined this character.
Correction- ascension, not accession. Sorry.
Agree again Harry. What father would leave 50% of his estate to a woman and only 25% to his sons. It’s absolutely insane and nauseating. And each writing team is worse than the one before it. It’s like they’re given instructions to put Carly on a pedestal and feed the Carly fans. It’s abhorrent and difficult to watch. I hang in there hoping that I’ll be surprised and see a change for the better, and yet it’s only sunk lower than before. To think that many of us were celebrating the demise of the fired writers; little did we know how much worse it could get.
Watching those two is about as exciting as watching paint dry
I hated their scenes because it was degrading to Nina while also being totally out of character for her. Nina is still in love with Sonny and no way would she be intimate with the man who said he wished she were a man so he could beat her up. But despite your claim, it certainly wasn’t dull. His love scenes with Carly in the kitchen were incredibly dull though.
Absolutely. There is no way she would have sex with Drew if she still wants Sonny. These writers are horrible.
Oh really? Because she’s such a saint? OMG, she wasn’t in a coma, she just got horny and acted on it, now trying to blame Drew. I’m old and don’t really understand that kind of sex, but I guess it does happen, in my day you only had sex with someone you loved but as the song goes ” what’s love got to do with it?”
The point is, Violet, is that it was plot driven, out-of-character writing.
Nina has never been shown to just have casual sex. She didn’t even have sex with Sonny the entire nine months she was with him in Nixon Falls even though she had fallen in love with him and he tried to make it happen several times. She also didn’t have sex with him when they got back to Port Charles until he assured her that his marriage to Carly was over and there was no going back. And even after that one time, she refused to sleep with him again for a while until he sorted out his feelings and still maintained that he and Carly were done. So her just jumping malicious, vicious, vindictive Drew made no sense. From what I read though Cameron found it amusing, was surprised by the scene too but thinks Nina and Drew have a hate for each other but (at this point anyway), an attraction.
Nina had a one night stand with Valentin before even knowing his name!
Eight, nine years ago? Not long after she came out of the coma and was erratic? Don’t exactly recall where her state of mind was then. Since then, have we EVER seen her do that? Does she come off as someone who just jumps men? No; this was out of character and worse because of the absolute bastard Drew’s been to her and still is. At least with Valentin it was a clean slate; no emotionally abusive history. This was demeaning. They’ve made Drew despicable.
Agree! Wish the writers would go back to the 80’s when the stories and music kept viewers watching I made sure to watch every week day.
agreed!
Ryan Lavery is sleeping with Annie Dutton?
I would say it’s a step down for Ryan and as bad as Annie was, I think she only preyed on Alan and Josh, at least Nina has a little more restraint in coralling Sonny, but has the same deviousness.
deceitful Nina needs to leave GH, they need to get rid of her. She brings nothing to any relationship on the show.
I knew darn well this would happen, his jealousy for Jason and Nina’s for Carly, what a combination. I’m sure she’ll fuel whatever fire is there to hurt Carly any way she can. As far as pregnancy goes, the woman is 55 yrs. old, for God’s sake. I also can’t wait until Jason gets a hold of her, after he found out all the crap she’s done to Carly.Hopefully, she’ll get a good earful. Wonder if Sonny will stick up for his wife?
Nina isn’t jealous of Carly; she’s angry; livid, that Carly has gotten away with everything she’s done to her and hasn’t paid. I am too.
Yes, everyone likes to forget that Carly withheld the fact the Willow was Nina’s daughter for months and would never have told Nina if Willow had not gotten sick. Carly is awful.
Let’s not forget that the whole Nina/Carly saga began with Carly because she took it upon herself to never let Nina know that Nelle had been her daughter or that Wiley is her grandson, and then did it all over again with Willow. Can you imagine if it was reversed? If Nina went to great lengths to keep Carly from her chldren? Calling Carly awful is way too kind.
Nina hasn’t done anything to Carly; it’s Carly who started it all and Nina who has been trying to get payback. Well deserved, justified, payback. It’s about time that she does, and yet with each successive writing team they keep this garbage going where Carly is seen as the victim of Nina. It’s vile.
I thought it was the best thing to happen for both characters.
And say what you will about Cameron Mathison.. but no denying that man is built!
knew it was coming, did not expect it this fast
Yes it was too fast because she still think she has a chance with Sonny. And it was stupid for her to ever think that Drew would help her in her relationship with Willow. Already we need new writers
To be clear, it was Drew’s office at Aurora where the romp happened – not Nina’s Crimson office. Now, we know why they gave him that new set last week.
Yesterday was perhaps the worst GH episode in years and that’s saying a lot. The Nina hate fest ran concurrent with the Carly love fest. You had Olivia, Carly, Willow, Sonny, Drew and of course, that awful Diane(rewriting history and basically lying) waxing disdain for Nina. Meanwhile, Super Carly saves a six feet tall FBI agent and Jason and Diane sing a song of praise for Super Carly that bears so semblance to reality. Then, if that wasn’t bad enough, Nina has hate sex with the very man who recently said that he wished she were a man so he could beat her up. These two having sex was a cynical, hateful and somewhat misogynistic choice. It is said that Elizabeth Korte is a huge Carly fan and yesterday’s writing certainly reflected that. Yesterday’s writing was sloppy, lazy, transparent and unprofessional. I may be finally done.
It was disgusting. I think these writers are THE worst GH has ever had. I was not happy at all with the writers who were fired for their incessant, obsessive, Nina hate and their dragging on stories forever. But they are GOLD compared to the crap we’re getting now. I agree with you about the Nina hate fest; it was literally sickening. Honestly, I really like Cynthia Watros and I don’t want her out of a job, but I just don’t understand how she can continue to play this role with how the character she plays is represented. I didn’t think it was possible but I think “Nina’s” tops “AJ” in being treated like dirt under people’s shoes. I agree with you about the sex with Drew too. Made no sense and her comment, “Has Carly ever told you what a great body you have” was THE most ridiculous line ever; I felt like I was watching a parody of a soap. The writing for Nina is demeaning; the hate for her is nonsensical, and Willow going on and on about losing time with her kids without one iota of understanding that Nina lost a lifetime with her, is crazy-making. Let’s not even get started how sister-in-law Maxi, and pseudo daughter to Nina, Sasha (which started with the fired writers) had no problem with Carly trying to keep Nina from Willow, or Drew firing Nina and replacing her with Carly. They sat in the office with Carly and barely blinked that Carly was replacing Nina; they just cared about how it would effect thri brand (I believe that was these current writers). This is the most idiotic, lack of common sense, emotionally abusive writing I’ve seen on a soap. These writers are horrific. I’d love to know why the fill-in writers during the strike weren’t offered the job. I thought they were great; haven’t enjoyed GH that much in a long time as I did when they were filling in. The current team is cringe-worthy, the writing laughable and/or painful to watch, and Carly galloping over to save Jagger was hilarious. Is he the guy she will finally side with over Jason? Is that where this is leading? Ugh. I feel dizzy watching the show; no one’s familiar…Oh there’s more! Joss vacillates between clueless and smiling like she was possessed with a Stepford wife, or blurting out at Bobbie’s, a public space, what Sonny “does for a living.” And Carly lets her. The show has become ludicrous.
Bravo Rebecca! I’m afraid the Nina hate was stuffed into every crevice and pore of yesterday’s episode. It continued today. Even the Metro Court Hotel’s ice machine isn’t safe as Carly had to get in her digs about how when SHE was the owner, all of the ice machines were in good working order.
LOL; I’ll prepare myself. I haven’t watched today’s episode yet. I don’t understand how Valentini approved this garbage. I don’t understand what he’s thinking. He literally has heard over and over again from Nina fans that we’re sick of Nina being the punching bag, and one would think that he would see clearly that this has gone on too long. It was a one-sided story from the beginning and it just kept escalating. Here we are, what? Two years later? I lost track, and Nina is STILL being talked about as if she was the worst thing to ever hit Port Charles. We spent almost a decade watching Nina search for her child; her despair. And instead of her finally finding some peace and nestling in the love of her remaining child and grandchildren, she’s condescended to, patronized, and keeps having to apologize for wanting to be close to her daughter. It’s disturbing, demeaning, cruel, and f’d up. About as fun as watching Gregory suffer and wither away. GH has REALLY jumped the shark. Time for a lifeboat or the whole thing’s going to sink. The only thing recognizable about the show right now is the hate for Nina. I feel anger and sad watching it; angry at how they ruined this once great soap, and sad because I miss what was once a fun escapism with familiar faces, continuity, and a fictional world I enjoyed visiting….
Harry, you forgot to add Michael and Willow to the never-ending, redundant chorus of Nina Hate. Worse than that, they were SO BORING. Good grief, can anything light a spark under those two characters?
I did indeed. Willow couldn’t frequent another dining environment because she just had to have the chocolate soufflé. Why couldn’t Michael set up an elaborate intimate dinner at the Q mansion and ask Olivia, co owner of the Metro Court, to bring that chocolate soufflé? But NO! They couldn’t miss an opportunity to humiliate and reject Nina once again. That’s how these two get their rocks off- it is what bonds them, it’s how they want to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
Could we talk about the real issue? Who gave Ava the bad hair cur???
Really? I think just the opposite! I love her hair, the bangs, and seeing her out of those buttoned-up stuffy blouses. These last few days she’s looked more like the Ava we met years ago; stunning! Sexier. She even looks younger. And I think she lost weight. Overall, the difference, in a good way, is striking.
Just my taste.. never fond of bangs. Lol.
Ah; that’s okay. We all have different taste. For me, I’m just floored by what I think is her return to sexy. She went from that to matronly and now she’s back again…
And Willow’s pompous attitude toward Nina with her, “I thought I told you not to come near me.” And let’s not forget that months before her wedding present to Nina was the bracelet that Harmony had given her. On what planet did THAT make sense? Oh, and then there was the time when she was coming home from the hospital and told Nina, “I’ll let you in my inner circle if you can behave yourself around Carly.” I have to say it again. Vile. Abusive. Abhorrent. From bad to worse.
Yes, we hate Nina. We don’t to see Nina. We don’t want to talk to Nina. But wait let’s go to the establishment she owns. It’s like these writers are trying to destroy the show with all of this nonsense.
Every soap needs someone the audience loves to hate. If that’s Nina for some people, great. Cynthia is doing a great job! People saw the revenge/anger sex scene coming from a mile away. The fact that it happened as it did was a shock, though. The fallout will be great! Plenty of story out of it.
I appreciate your positivity, Rodd. I wish I felt the same.
And many of us do; and that would be Carly. The problem is all of the writing is slanted to make Carly out as a saint loved by all and who never pays, and we have to watch this abusive story where Nina didn’t quite suffer enough according to the writers? Put her in a coma, have her lose over twenty years of her life, have her children taken from her, have one young woman con her into believing she was her long-lost daughter, have not one but three women: her mother, psycho killer Harmony, and then Carly keep her from finding out the truth, have her heart broken over and over again and her search be fruitless, then let her be lied to only to find out one daughter was now dead, the other dying AND she’s banned from the dying’s life. Then let Carly who lied to her and was never going to even let her know Willow was her child replace her; have that long-lost child, Willow, “love Carly dearly” while she spews venom at her Nina, and bans her again from her presence.
It’s an emotionally abusive, sickening, story. If I “hate” a character it’s not going to be anyone like Nina. This is just a despicable story that keeps battering one woman as everyone in-story despises her and thinks nothing of what was done TO her.
Do not like new writers approach. They’re basically writing Ryan Lavery
I watched slack-jawed yesterday. After about a week of episodes guaranteed to cure insomnia, we’re given a plot “twist” like this that makes about as much sense as did Casey the space alien! Good lord. But those of you bemoaning the sainthood of Queen Carly should hardly be surprised. It’s a national by-product of the deification of mob boss Sonny that’s been in place for decades. The only scene worth any attention all week was when Anna read him the riot act for beating the crap out of Cyrus! And why can’t anyone write for Robert? A couple of weeks ago, he was in an opening scene at the hospital grousing about delaying Heather’s transfer back to prison, and then he disappeared! What was the point of that? And how long does the sublime Jane Elliott have to save scene-after-scene before she gets a head shot in the opening credits? Ugh!
As for the opening credits, there was a photo shoot last month. Apparently a reworking of the opening will happen in the next few weeks. Jane Elliott and Kate Mansi have been on contract for around a year. Other frequent recurring (Alley Mills and Kristen Vaganos) should be included.
As for Tristan Rogers, similar to Leslie Charleson, let’s just be grateful for whatever he’s able to give us.
Steve, is he in poor health? I just found it odd that he was only in a single scene that day. Usually, the actors are in at least three or four scenes on a day that they’re on set. I’d actually feel better knowing that he’s working as much as he’d like. I know that he’s still busy on The Bay as well.
Bill
I’m not going to speculate on anyone’s health. I will say that there’s been a noticeable change in TR’s appearance these past 6 months with his voice more raspy than before.
At 77, we should appreciate whatever screen time we get from this GH legend. Jane Elliot is somehow also 77 and looks darn amazing.
I think Anna reading Sonny the riot act for attacking Cyrus was insane. Suddenly, a vicious, manipulative Cyrus, a violent murderer, who drugged Sasha, possibly killed Austin, is being described by everyone as an “old man?” Some vulnerable weak “old man?” Anna turning against Sonny like a rabid dog after he just spent months giving her 24/7 protection, after they just bonded more than they ever have before in all these years? Make it make sense. After what? Four decades Anna finally had a revelation about Sonny over Cyrus? These writers seem like they just came from a writing gig at SNL. If GH was a comedy, I’d appreciate what they’re doing to the show. As it stands? I’m watching in the same way one might look at a car accident; you don’t want to look but you do.
Hey, for once in a long time we agree on something! I thought the same thing about Cyrus. That “old” man is a murderer and who knows what else. His own mother wants nothing to do with him, his own words. It’s just too bad it took so long for someone to finally make him suffer a little after all he’s done, as you said. Anna is another story. They are changing her character quite a lot lately, can’t understand it, as if they have her taking another route.Next, she’ll be turning against Robert.
Hi Violet. We just agreed on something before this; you actually said the same thing to me, that we finally agreed. But, lol, I can’t remember which character it was about. We’re about to disagree again; you’ll see on what when my comment is posted. Different thread.
Keep in mind, Anna had also just been given a blow-by-blow reminder from Jagger about what Sonny did to Karen Wexler. For me, it’s about time that a Port Charles police commissioner is cognizant of what Sonny is. Once a drug pusher and strip club entrepreneur, and still a crooked thug who makes extortion and violence a way of life. I’ve always been sickened by how sanitized and sainted this crime lord has been elevated.
I’m not defending Sonny; I’ve hated him and Carly for decades for what they did to AJ (I was a huge AJ fan). The fact that they took his son from him for life, threatened him if he even tried to talk to Michael, Carly drugging AJ when he was sober, and in the end Sonny killing him, and neither Carly nor Sonny ever paid for any of it, still makes me livid. I felt similarly frustrated when they took Avery from Ava and we had to watch Avery call Carly ‘mama Carly.” For a decade we barely got a scene with Ava and her daughter; instead we got Carly/Avery scenes. But my point is I found it absurd that Anna had a sudden awakening and with such a fury. She didn’t need to be reminded of who or what Sonny is; she’s always known. They even had a heart-to-heart about the road each one had taken in their lives and if they had regrets. He just gave her 24/7 protection. So, to me, her sudden mission to take him down still doesn’t make sense.
Maurice Benard has said very recently that he’ll be leaving the soap “sooner rather than later.” He no longer had a love for it; is more into his State of Mind podcast. However more recently he’s also more said he’s really enjoying his scenes on GH lately, probably because he’s had more characters to play with rather than only “Carly” and “Jason.” But who knows? Maybe he really will be taken down this time and that will be Maurice’s exit story. I’d rather it be by someone in the FBI or WSB or a mob rival than by Anna…but these current writers are turning everything and everyone on their heads so it’s all up in the air, so to speak lol.
Missing ” Love in the afternoon” on GH but, Nina and Drew , no chemistry !! Less FBI, and Pikéman would be great. . More Jason and Carly !!!! Bye bye Jagger, hopefully. A new face was not needed on the canvas. Too many storylines !
No one will probably agree with me here, but as much as I haven’t liked Jagger and his animosity against Jason and Sonny, I’m liking his relationship with Carly. I did not care for her and Drew.
You said Love in the afternoon, remember that old song “Afternoon Delight”?
nuJagger is stunning and I HATE that it looks like they might pair them. I detest Carly and I don’t want to see yet another man kiss her self-righteous, hateful, butt. Of course that means that yet another character will hate Nina because whoever kisses up to Carly spews venom, just like her, at whomever the latest victim is in her warpath.
I think some could benefit from a “respectful workplace” course…whether they work or not.. I could not get away with speaking like I just read in my workplace… just pointing this out. Hopefully not in an offensive way, because none is meant.
I’m sorry GH fan but I truly have no idea what you’re referring to with your comment unless it fell under the wrong section??
That is sad that my conment isn’t understood.. no worries. All the best, nonetheless.
It’s not sad; it’s not clear. Are you insinuating you didn’t like my comment regarding Carly? Is THAT what you were referring to? That’s the only thing I can think of since that’s where your comment landed but that would make no sense if that was what you were referring to with your “respectful workplace” comment. If you write something that’s not understood please clarify it. I’m not sure anyone would know what you were referring to.
I agree Violet. Carly could use s good shake up.. love to see her with anyone other than Sonny, Jason or Drew.
Well… Did Not see the attraction between them and I found it unsettling. Just another recent Drew acting strange since prison thing.
BUT, that being said, I do say it completely reminds me of another betrayal twist from 1999. And if Drew still has Jason’s memories – this would be right in line with getting Carly back. I am of course referring to Jason’s girlfriend Carly and friend/boss betraying Jason by having fight sex, all while Jason was involved with a mob gunfight. Risking his life for Sonny’s business while Sonny & Carly were fighting and having sex.
Drew is just gross to me. Not appealing at all. And yes, I saw this get together of theirs coming a mile away. Nina is gross too. She is so pushy, so needy. Have felt sorry for her at times but overall she is just a hot mess.
Am hoping AVA will “help” Nina out with Sonny to the full extent their “friendship” will allow.P.S do not like Ava’s new Sheepdog look, Ala Carly’s old look.
Nina and Drew are the most unlikely couple I have seen in years on General Hospital. Several weeks before he jumps her, he hates her so much that it’s the reason Carly breaks up with him. Now all of a sudden he has sex? It’s so disgusting and unbelievable. The writers are completely stupid.
And I’m surprised to read all the comments here about hating on Carly and that Nina is somehow a victim and all this. You gotta be completely out of your mind!, Everybody has a right to their opinion, but Nina has been the most deceitful character since the moment she got back.
The woman was a complete psycho coming out of a coma and manipulating a man until he died… Kidnapping a woman while she was pregnant and then stealing the woman’s baby… She attacked the woman that ended up being her daughter… Willow… Relentlessly over and over and over again and then the minute she finds out Willow is her daughter. It’s like oh all is forgotten let’s be friends !! Willow is right to shut her out of her life.
And for anyone who keeps saying that Drew and Carly did something wrong, and they should’ve been incarcerated, fine, then why did Nina hide the fact that she was the one that turned them in? If it was all on the up and up and she defends it now, why did she let somebody else take the fall?
And let’s not forget the fact that she let a man with how many children and a wife at the time believe that he was someone else, kept him from his family, when they all thought he was dead, and this went on for a year.
It’s been painful, watching her stories and be such a hypocrite at the entire time. Especially with Valentine…. Oh, I can’t handle one more lie… You can’t lie to me. Although she is the queen of lies and all she does is lie and manipulate everybody around her.
I’d rather watch Heather Webber get redeemed the Nina. At least she’s interesting. Nina is the Most useless character on the show. She needs to disappear. Everybody would be better off. It’s a waste of pen and ink.
Please drew Please do me a favor to fall in love with willow and to have Relationship with her make me a promise
Nina needs to try let drew go he can have a future with willow to have Relationship with her and they belong together

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
