GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Walks Away From The Mob After 30 Years; Steve Burton and Maurice Benard Deliver Emotional Moments

Is this the end of an era? It certainly looks like it after Jason (Steve Burton) explained to Sonny (Maurice Benard), why he can no longer work for him, and be his right hand enforcer for his organization on the Monday, August 3 episode of General Hospital.

In story, Jason filled Sonny in on everything that went down before he was taken into custody by the WSB including: his opportunity to kill Cullum, Rocco shooting Cullum on the pier, being carted off to Jakarta, and watching his son, Danny, who now only has one parent (since his mother, Sam McCall died in 2024) suffer the consequences of his actions. Jason made clear to Sonny he must be there for his son now and needs to set a better example for him.

As emotional Jason is trying to get the words out and becomes overwhelmed with sadness, because he is truly caught between his son and the man that changed his life after Jason sustained longstanding brain damage from being injured in the car crash nearly 30 years ago in 1996.

Jason recounts to Sonny what led him to this decision, “The WSB’s taking me in. They throw me shackles and then they force me in the back of a transport. Danny was there. He’s pounding on the door. Tears in his eyes screaming that what they’re doing to me is wrong. They just can’t take me off. I’m sitting there wondering, ‘What the hell have I done to my kid?’ His mom’s dead. I’m going to prison if I’m lucky. Something just breaks inside of me.”

“So, I promised myself, I got to do better,” continued Jason. “I failed my son too many times and I can’t do it again. If I keep working for you, then I’m going to make sure that your security’s my priority and not Danny. It’s not fair to you to keep me on when I can’t do the things I used to. I can’t kill for you again. I got to stop doing what I’m doing so Danny doesn’t follow in my footsteps.”

Next, Sonny lets Jason know Danny had already tried to join the mob in his absence, and that he knew Jason wouldn’t want Danny in this life, just like he would not want his own children. Jason thanks Sonny for handling the situation. He adds, “I just have a few years before Danny’s going to be out on his own. This my last chance to be a true father to him before he doesn’t even need me anymore. I’m out.”

Sonny gives Jason his blessing with tears streaming down his face, and tells Jason they will always be brothers, and they share a hug, before Jason exits.

Applause to Steve Burton who played the scenes beautifully, and Maurice Benard, who reminded us why the longstanding relationship between Jason and Sonny has been one of the all-time best and one of the cornerstones of three decades of GH. Burton should remember these scenes for potential inclusion for his Emmy reel for 2027.

So, what did you think of the scenes where Jason tells Sonny why he is leaving the mob and can’t work for him anymore? Do you think it will stick? In the past, these two have found themselves, often having to face a common enemy back working together and Jason goes right as Sonny’s enforcer? Were you moved by Steve and Maurice’s performances in the scenes? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

Loved these scenes with both of them!
Very heartwarming!
Bravo to both of you!

i’m sorry but i was giggling watching sonny and jason all teary eye for each other, I mean seriously, Jason sad that he’s retiring from killing for sonny was pathetic, and sonny being all sad he’s gotta find someone else to kill for him well I just couldn’t contain myself. and appearantly Jason only priority is now Danny, I guess his “only” son, lets see how long all this last.

Danny is not Jason’s only son. You forgot about Jake?

Pretty sure them quoting the word “only” is them alluding to Jake, despite the fact that the character is not on-canvas and is often ignored in scritped text.

I think the quotation marks around “only” signals sarcasm.

It is kind of random though that Jason & Danny took a road trip to “Montana” of all places, rather than going to see Jake. Maybe Jason didn’t want to get on another international flight so soon, after coming back from Indonesia? Jake was still at “art school” in Spain, last we heard.

Jake died.

No, Helena had him… that’s a while back too that Jake was resurrected.

Yeah, but that was a long time ago. He somehow ended up on Cassadine Island where Luke and Lucky found him. Right around the same time the original Drew was shacking up with Liz, because she thought he was Jason.

They even did a rewrite of the kidney transplant that went into Josslyn, now they claim the donor kidney came from Psycho Nelle, who just happened to be raised by Carly’s adopted father. Even more ridiculous is that Jake was 4 years old when he supposedly died and Joss was still a baby. But now Joss is 4 years or so older than Jake.

It’s definitely odd, right? I can only imagine what actors are thinking when they first read these scripts. “I have to say and do WHAT”? The reasons these 2 characters were crying were ludacris. Yet it was an otherwise very well acted scene if the audience pretends they were talking about something else. Anyway, congrats to Maurice and Steve for acting well through this reprehensible premise.

So sorry. Will be missed very much. Wish him well.

Did Sonny write this? Jason is not leaving the canvas for now. He is just getting out of Sonny’s business.

Wow! These scenes were so well acted. To see the both of them tear up made me emotional. Not sure if this decision on Jason’s part will last but it was good to see him put his son as his priority. The GH writers have really stepped up lately. This should go in both actor’s Emmy nomination reels.

I he’s going to go cross country selling Pickle Lila Relish.

II fast forward most of it Hopefully, he’ll be back in the mob in no time if not, I don’t know if I’m gonna like his new character at all

Jason out of the mob wont be a “new” character. Hello when the character was first introduced he was the golden good boy of the Q family. Everyone prefered him to AJ despite the pesky fact that Jason was the product of Alan’s adulterous affair with Susan Moore lol.

I was very moved by those scenes. Watching Jason and Sonny come to the end of their road broke my heart. Steve Burton and Maurice Benard delivered masterful performances. Bravo to both of them.

Sonny didn’t thank Jason for watching out for Rocco.

Im glad it finally happened and that Jason finally admitted that his “job” is to kill for Sonny. Over the last 3 decades I got tired of the writers just dancing around that fact. All I can say its about damn time. I hope this leads to real change in Jason’s story not just a temporary split.
I was thrilled when Maurice got the role of Sonny and I thought the twist of turning Golden boy Jason into a brain damaged killer was inspired.
But it has gone on far too long. The mob stories are repetitious and stale. And whats worse I feel so insulted when the writers keep making excuses for Sonny’s crimes and pretending that he and Jason are anti heroes.
Luke Spencer was a true antihero and he eventually brought down the mob. I look forward to the day when Sonny also hangs up the mob life and moves on. The show needs to move forward. GH has been the Sonny Corinthos show for far too long.

I said almost exactly the same thing!!! Great minds think alike! 🙂

I have been waiting for 30 years for this! But it won’t stick. It never does. Jason is a terrible father who will ALWAYS choose the mob and murder over his children. Always.

What did Sonny actually do for Jason other than take advantage of his brain damage, totally fracture his relstionship with his family, and turn him into a brain-damaged thug and murderer?

I can’t even enjoy it because it has simply taken too long. The shock of Jason becoming a murderer was good for maybe a 6-month story arc … a year at most! Not 30 years of the SAME OLD THING over and over and over… and over!!

Then he should have gone back to his real life, become a doctor like he was meant to, and been the moral anchor of the show.

I know that some time down the road, Jason will go back to the mob amidst a tear-filled reunion with Sonny filled with tears and hugs, where Sonny thanks him for returning to his murderous, mobster ways, and back to square one.

Many regimes have teased the real Jason returning, but none have delivered anything meaningful on that front. It is easy, lazy, and predictable writing to always resort to manufactured mob and violence drama. The writers do not seem to be capable of writing anything else.

I understand why Jason feels this way. Jason and Sonny will always be brothers. One day they will reunite and Sonny may reconsider his occupation may not be suitable for him either.

I see them kill some many people off. I would like to Jack have to face his past. The man or woman who is after him goes after his mother. Maybe he ran into mother who things he dead. She leaves town not knowing anything. I thought it was away too have Ronnie Bard back. I think they where going to make kiwi nina daughter but someone decided to kill her off first. I think need a back story before they kill him off. That all they do on GH.

Britt is probably gonna leave him now that he won’t be a bad boy.

‘General Hospital’ Favorite Kirsten Storms Gives Update on Apartment Break-in That Caused “Unnecessary Custody Case”

Published

Kirsten Storms

Kirsten Storms (Maxie, GH) is sharing more details on the December 2025 apartment break-in and the difficulties she has had with the Tennessee police, plus how the original incident, according to the actress, played into her ex-husband, Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny, GH and ex-Stefan/Jake, Days) filing a restraining order against her and the custody case involving their daughter, Harper.

The popular actress had played GH’s Maxie Jones on and off since 2005, after coming to the ABC soap opera following her run as Belle Black on Days of our Lives. As GH fans know, Storms last appearance on General Hospital was back in March of this year. In recent episodes, the character of Maxie was written-out along with her entire family and Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and relocated to Australia.

Now, Kirsten explained via Instagram and with shared photo of the December police report, which indicated Storms had placed a call to the Franklin Police Department to report a break-in at her Tennessee apartment. The report states that Storms was away from her apartment for about a week in August of 2025, and when she returned home, she found damage to the deadbolt on her door, as well as other missing items.

KIRSTEN STORMS SPEAKS OUT ABOUT CUSTODY CASE OVER HER DAUGHTER

Then, Storms fired back at naysayers in the ongoing comments on her break-in situation, stating: “Please do not tell me (or ask me) not to post these things. I’m hoping this is the last item I post (of the documents I have on the break-in at my old apartment in Tennessee). I’m only doing this because that lead to an **unnecessary custody case** being filed against me.”

It was back in April that TMZ learned, through obtaining of court documents, that Barash cited Storms for having mental health issues so he filed a restraining order against her. Kirsten expressed in her latest post, that she was asked to meet with a mediator in the custody case for her daughter, not a judge, and that her mental health issues were being used against her instead of people focusing on the break-in.

Storms added, “However, the break-in … followed by a ‘custody case/now mediation request’ where the break-in was the main reason for the initial custody filing, was unwarranted.”

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH CHECK

Kirsten also shared on her health status,”I have always been proactive about my medical care (all aspects), as well as Harper’s (<—— the MOST important person to me). I’ve also been attempting to get checkups with a neurosurgeon/neurologist for my brain aneurysm and brain cysts. And tbh, I have a psychologist that I’ve seen for years, who I’m kinda attached too. She’s f’ing incredible and understands the kind of therapy sessions I need. Addressing what should NOT be the focus (mental illness), is frustrating for me”

You can check out Kirsten’s latest post on the custody matter, and her ongoing battle over the apartment break-in while in Tennessee below.

Now let us know, glad to hear from Kirsten and hear more of her side of the custody story and her ongoing issues with this apartment break-in? Let us know via the comment section below, and if you miss seeing her on-screen on General Hospital and hope one day she will come back.
