GENERAL HOSPITAL: Mac Feels Hurt and Betrayed by Cody’s Deception in Touching Performance by John J. York
On Tuesday’s July 9th episode of General Hospital, after a year we finally got to the moment many had been waiting for – Mac (John J. York) learns that Cody (Josh Kelly) is his biological son.
The moment occurs in the pick-up to the fourth of July episode in Port Charles. After Cody blurted out that Mac is his father, the two have a discussion that leads to Mac being devastated and angered. Cody admits that he lied to him; that he changed the DNA test so it looked like Mac was not his dad.
Cody explains how he signed the affidavit saying he was Leopold Taub’s son in order to get his hands on the ice princess necklace. Looking back on it now, Cody is not proud of what he did.

Mac comes at Cody. He is so hurt that he opened up his heart and the entire family to him, only to have Cody slam the door in his face. Mac goes on to give Cody a laundry list of people Cody lied to including: Felicia (Kristina Wagner), Maxie, (Kirsten Storms) Georgie, and especially little James. Mac says Cody doesn’t give a damn about anyone, and in turn, now Mac doesn’t trust him.
Disheartened Mac leaves. Later, Mac tells Felicia that Cody is his bio-son. However, Felicia says that can’t be true because she did her own DNA test. Mac says Cody must have fiddled with her test too, because he lied about the first one. Since Cody knew this whole time and never said a word to Mac, it further angers him. Next, he calls Cody a grifter with an agenda. Mac says he would have found a way to love Cody but now he thinks it’s too late for that.

Meanwhile, Cody tells Maxie the truth, that he is Mac’s son and that Mac wants nothing to do with him. Maxie is at first shocked, but she tells Cody she is glad that he is now her ‘brother’, and that she is glad he in the family. Maxie shares that Mac needs time to calm down after the bombshell that Cody dropped on him.
As viewers know, John J. York had to step away from GH for several months after being diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and smoldering multiple myeloma in late 2022. After going through treatment, York returned on-screen last month in June.
In yesterday’s highly-anticipated showdown between Cody and Mac, York delivered with such raw emotion, and showed us why we love Mac Scorpio as the fine and upstanding man he is, and why, as the audience, we never want to see him hurt. He also reminded us of why we love John J. York.
What did you think of the scenes between Mac and Cody and Mac learning that he is Cody’s father? If you missed the moment, you can watch it below. Then share your thoughts in the comment section.
Finally! Mac ought to insist on a final DNA test run by the PCPD lab.
Nice to see JJY have a meaty part to play that focuses on Mac for a change.
Mac is rightfully hurt but its obvious he will forgive him, or maybe not that quickly but then something tragic would have to happen to reunite them, lets see where it goes, but glad its out already .
Finally! It has been a tortuous 2-year wait. Did anyone notice that Cody made the admission in practically the same spot Mac found him at 2 years ago at the Q’s picnic? Cody was standing with Brit then and Mac with Felicia behind him just stared at Cody endlessly and unable to look away.
Mac will forgive Cody – but not before at least a month or so of angst. Just hoping it doesn’t get super messy like Mac arresting Cody. I remember Mac allowing the police to throw the book at Robin when she got caught drunk driving. Those were the days of strict “Uncle Mac”.
Just hope Mac doesn’t do something out of hurt feelings, that he will regret later, he wouldn’t be hurting so much if he didn’t care for Cody.
Exactly what I’m afraid of – especially if he confides in his uber perfect brother. I can see Robert wanting to go after Cody for hurting Mac. Hoping they keep him out of the orbit right now. Later he can be the problem family member for Cody to deal with.
Our Mac is far from perfect – Robert was the perfect kid Mac had to live up to.

Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.
The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL
Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)
According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”
Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.
Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.
In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.
Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
