General Hospital Releases Its 56th Anniversary Episode Promo

Next week, General Hospital continues on as the longest-running daytime drama still on the air, when it turns 56.   To make the occasion, the soap opera will celebrate with a special episode to air on Tuesday April 2nd.  (As we know, GH premiered on April 1, 1963).

Now, ABC has served up a promo and reveals that in story: “The people of Port Charles come together and celebrate the life of Gail Baldwin (the late Susan Brown). It’s our 56th Anniversary, don’t miss out! #GH56”

In a post on social media, the series says to join them for a special episode that “celebrates the history and legacies of GH.”

From the looks of it, Bobbie (Jackie Zeman) and Monica (Leslie Charleson) are chatting about the anniversary of the hospital, and what a kick to see former on-screen nemesis, Dr, Lesley Webber (the returning Denise Alexander) and Dr. Monica Quartermaine walking the hallways of GH chatting about old-times. Later, Bobbie says to Scott (Kin Shriner), “Look at us.  We’re still here after all this time.”

Check out the teaser below.  Then let us know if you are happy to know that GH plans to turn 56 by putting the spotlight on some of the longtime and beloved characters via the comment section.

Well, the promo wasn’t too thrilling but I am always happy to see the vets played more. They anchor the show. It was by their work that the show was able to remain with us for 56 years. I am looking forward to seeing how this story involving Gail plays out. I hope it was longer effects than Helena’s Will did. That was dropped like a hot potato.

Soaps are families to viewers. So wonderful to see the upcoming episode will remember that. I watched religiously in the 1970s and 1980s and 1990s. I found the stories lacking some since admittedly. But to see the vets back reminds me of the families we find in our stories. And how those vets should and do remain vital.

I’m happy that there’s a GH to tune into everyday, and here’s to more decades of GH.

Today I feel compelled to give some kudos to GH for honoring its rich history in promotion of its 56th anniversary and using the passing of Gail Baldwin as the catalyst for the celebration. It’s refreshing to see Monica, Lesley, Bobbie, Laura, Scotty, and Felicia. Yet it’s nauseating to see the predictable ending of the commercial with the despicable and omnipresent Sonny, placing a taint on the festivities… Still, I will tune into this particular episode on this one particular day, making a return of my own as a former decades-long viewer to this, my once-favorite show. After all, they’re… Read more »

Jane Elliot Returns to General Hospital This April

Although it was previously announced back in January (during ABC’s TCA Winter Press Tour) that Jane Elliot would be returning to General Hospital, the soap opera and Soap Opera Digest have confirmed that Jane’s first episode back will air next month on April 17th.

While Elliot won’t be a part of the Nurses’ Ball which airs the week of April 3rd, as part of the show’s 60th anniversary episodes, the Daytime Emmy-winning fan favorite will be back in action during the anniversary month and beyond.

As viewers know, Jane originally decided to retire back in 2017, and so Tracy was written off to join Luke Spencer in Europe.  Since that time, Elliot has come back to the show for a few appearances.

The last time we saw Tracy was at the beginning of 2022, when she came home to Port Charles to give the shocking and tragic news that Luke had been killed in a cable car crash.  Tracy eventually went back to Amsterdam, where they had been living, to settle his affairs following his death.

Will Tracy’s return help bring down Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) who is believed to be behind Luke’s death? Could Tracy learn Luke is really alive after all? Stay tuned.

So, excited that Jane Elliot’s return to GH is just around the corner? Comment below.
