General Hospital Scores Most Watched Telecast In Over Three and A Half Years!

Courtesy/ABC
General Hospital continues to be on a roll! And two of its continuing major storylines… Robin’s (Kimberly McCullough) return … and the story of Maxie (Kirsten Storm) and Spinelli’s (Bradford Anderson) bio-child that were featured in the Monday, October 28th episode gave the lone ABC soap opera it’s most watched episode in over three and a half years!
GH scored tune-in of 3.16 million viewers for that episode! In addition, according to an ABC press release for the ratings week of October 28th to November 1st: “Monday’s telecast which revolved around Robin learning of Patrick’s engagement and Maxie’s frantic preparation for her baby’s return – stood also as its second-most-watched telecast in over two years in Women 18-49 (857,000/1.3 rating) and two and a half years in Women 25-54 (1.13 million/1.9 rating) – since 8/15/11 and 3/25/11, accordingly.
In addition, General Hospital grew its Total Viewer audience for the fourth consecutive week, rising to an over 10 month high (2.91 million – since 1/21/13), set an over 2 year high in Women 18-49 (748,000/1.2 rating) and over 2 and a half year high in Women 25-54 (989,000/1.6 rating) – since weeks of 8/15/11 and 3/28/11, respectively – placing a competitive #2 in the demos, and was the #1 program for the 11th week in a row in Women 18-34 (259,000/0.8 rating).”
So, what do you think of GH’s impressive numbers? Do you think they will top 3.16 million for a single episode… perhaps coming up if and when Patrick (Jason Thompson) sees Robin again? Weigh-in!
perhaps ABC will see fit to bring OLTL back…even for a 1/2 hour show? Now would be the time….but alas, it’s ABC we’re talking about..they’re not that bright. I’m thrilled for everyone at GH. Fave show ever.
OLTL and or AMC will never return, never!! 🙂
ABC will support 1 soap, and only 1 soap..
And yes!! GH is the best soap, by far, above all !!!!
The stories have been connecting to the history along with the vets!
Everything, not just 1 or 2 things, but ‘everything’ is what has put GH #1 for entertainment!!
ALL has contributed to GH’s breaking the ‘must see’ charts!!
GO FRANK!!! GO RON!!!!! WHOOT WHOOT WHOOT!!!!!
I will always hold out hope that things will come full circle and somehow OLTL and AMC will be revived. Although, even with GH’s good ratings, nothing is safe in the hands of Disney……and history has repeated itself before. 🙂
I agree with you! Too bad ABC is so close-minded. About OLTL & AMC.. They rather support Talk & cooking shows more. But on a happier note I a so glad GH is doing so well! I enjoy watching it and it is so entertaining… I really enjoy all the stories which are so well done. And keeps my interest from beginning to end each day. GH is a definite must see daytime program! Can’t wait to see what happens next! HURRAY FOR GH!!!!!!!!
Quite frankly, the return of the Scorpios is what has made GH so exciting lately. The story surrounding Robin’s return has several layers to it. It involves a trifecta of villians, her longing to return to her husband and daughter, her love of her parents, and vets being interwoven into the story. The icing on the cake was when Robert Scorpio woke up and said, “Hello Sweetheart” to Anna Devane. I love Anna and Robert together. Plus we got the added bonus of seeing Mac! I applaud the writers for bringing GH’s number 1 family, the Scorpios, back in the fold!
You said it perfectly. And yes now is the perfect time for ABC to bring back OLTL. Two half hours–AMC and OLTL. ABC Daytime could rule again!
Why does every GH post have to revolve around OLTL & AMC? Face it, those shows are dead in the water and aren’t coming back. The biggest mistake they ever made was screwing up Todd, Starr & John and turning into their same characters with different names. Lame!!! OLTL & AMC should have stayed gone.
Well said… agree completely… Susan!!!
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Tristan Rogers is a delight in all of his scenes, and when paired with Finola Hughes .. OMG, the chemistry between those two! I am glued to my tube when the Scorpios are front-and-center. Can’t wait for Robin to be reunited with her family!
I couldn’t agree more! The idea that its Robin alone or even the Maxie/LuLu story that has people watching is absurd! People are watching for the entire Scorpio clan, the baddies, Ava & Morgan, this week we had Heather, Lucy and Scotty for a good chunk of the week, and a host of other reasons.
If it is anything like the way Nina and Cliff on All My Children were reunited it will leave enormous emotions within. Cant wait.
This was also the ep which brought in Ilene Kristen as Delia from Ryan’s Hope. 😀
Bingo! that was an awesome move by the powers that be. Love IL and all of her characters…Delia….Roxie…. 🙂 Long Live Soaps!
Why does the press release from ABC not mention that the most watched day of GH was when former OLTL actress Ilene Kristen made an appearance? I am in the target demographic, and I actually watched GH that day. It was nice to see Roxy/Delia again, but it did make me miss OLTL even more. I have not watched GH since I gave it a try when Starr had those awful scenes when her family went off a cliff (terrible acting and writing). I watched Monday, but I stillI cannot get into GH. The ABC executives should truly analyze the reasons for the high Monday ratings and consider bringing back OLTL in some form now that PP seems to be bowing out.
um lisa, oltl is dead, mourn and move on.
Lol yeah pick up the pieces! Too funny!
If it allowed RC and RH to leave GH there would definitely be GH fans in favor of it. His desperation to make RH’s character acceptable is totally ruining GH for one character after the next. Does he ever do stories that don’t entail revolving parenthood?
Patrick and Robin reunite, and the outcome of Maxis storyline should give the show even higher ratings…if Ben turns out to be really Dante’s and Lulu’s i want Maxi to win custody of Connie but Lulu runs off with the baby before Dante can tell her that Ben is their son…gotta keep the show moving after everyone finds out Robin is alive…also i want Anna to find out she has another sister…Dr.O! Plus Faison needs to play the town Santa this year…can you see Anna bringing Emma to see Santa but Santa/Faison coaxes Anna to sit on his lap…a suddenly uncomfortable Anna asks a smiling Santa/Faison ‘Is that a candy cane in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me, Santa? to which Santa/Faison replies’Oh, im very happy…and thats my very special candy cane for you my dear, Anna’!!! lol
Also, i want to know how Heather gets her disguises and sneaks out of the mental hospital all the time…when i was in one i couldnt sneak out to save my life…i finally had to act sane b4 they’d even release me from the mental hospital, and acting sane is something very hard for me to do…lol
Hahahaha
also i want Anna to find out she has another sister…Dr.O!
LOL thank you jimH.
but Lulu runs off with the baby before Dante can tell her that Ben is their son……
which is not a bad idea…. having to choose which couple… I think fan uproar and approval is with Maxie and Spinelli…. and… for me… I actually really like Britt with Ben. if this means in any way helping to keep Dr. O and Faison… with…
so… I don’t know…
course i’m being silly… as it would definitely wrap it all up with bow and holiday season nielsons sweeps… that Ben be Dante and Lulu’
WOO HOO!!! Congratulations GH!!! Way to go!!! Best soap ever!!!
I find now that Robin is back, I rush to watch and can’t wait. I Google everyday, trying to find out scoops( when will Patrick and Emma see her ect;) Thanks for coming back KM
See what happens when people care and are allowed to do their jobs. The soap genre never died, but the webs sure weakened it with their lack of love and sever budget cutbacks. And GH has the RIGHT people. The field seems to have too many pretenders of late. Cavatini is THE team!
That GH has risen to these heights is truly amazing and worth celebration.
GH is firing on all cylinders, with an occasional misfire, that demands you watch every day. It’s so good you don’t want to miss it. You want to see for yourself and not just read about it. I think the ratings will continue to grow.
Congratulations to General Hospital! I love the scenes from the new art gallery, love seeing the cast all dressed up and interacting with a lot of other actors on the show. Love the Jeromes!
I wonder if the momentum will stall with today’s (Friday’s) episode. Just terrible – I honestly had to turn it off. RC desperately needs to figure out more storylines than switching a cast members’ paternity every other week. Pathetic. Now Franco is Scotty and Heather’s son. Let’s forget the DVD’s, let’s forget the last six months, what can the story be so Franco and Carly can be together. Why not just call it Carly and her man of the day and leave the show at that. Ugh.
And when Bobbi returns she tells Carly she isnt her mother…Delia is…Carly is Ava’s faternal twin sister…lol
elizabeth stop whining. gh is on fire now. don’t watch plain and simple.
I loved todays episode and the paternity reveal!! I think it’s brilliant! It’s a waaaay better fit for the character of Franco! I never liked the idea of him being Jason’s twin or a Quartermaine. I actually feel this is more believable. Kudos to GH! I love everything about this show right now. Kiki and Michael are boring me though.
Elizabeth, clearly you’re a fan of JFP or perhaps you are her? Regardless, GH is only on the air now because of the efforts of RC and FV. If you don’t like the show, don’t watch it. Clearly, you’re in the minority among soap fans because the ratings don’t reflect your opinion.
What I am is a fan of classic GH – you know, the way it used to be when stories entailed a beginning, a middle, a climax and a resolution, when characters actually revolved around major plots, minor plots and supporting plots that were all integrated with layers and depth. The ratings reflect the fact that RC is going back to the beloved vets and yes, I appreciate that too. At the same time the never ending parent and baby switches are just getting old. Between the over reliance on plot points, the non-sensical plot twists that dissolve into incoherency and the campy/comic book tenor of the writing I would say that RC needs the help of a co-head writer to dampen down his attention deficit syndrome writing style.
Many of the other message boards do reflect my opinion – and if you don’t want to know what other people think then don’t read the boards.
I completely agree with Elizabeth. I was watching faithfully until this silly art gallery opening monopolized the past week. I now read recaps…based on the Friday show…I have no reason to tune back in for a while. I do not care about this version of Franco. Sorry. The writers are doing back flips trying to sell the character. In my case, it is not working.
Even though the foreshadowing gave it away weeks ago, Franco’s latest paternity twist was less than thrilling….as far as Heather being his crazymama, that’s cool! (Her antics are always a hoot, and Friday’s proved no exception!) But Scotty as the father??? Why??? (There were other more intriguing options, given all of Heather’s escapades back in the day….) Quite frankly, I don’t understand this huge need to push Baldwin after all these years….he was a marginal character at best in his GH prime, and now he is just an overbearing and laughable blowhard, particularly when Lucy is featured with him. There are far better and worthier legacy roles that deserve an update….hope this one is very short-lived and that Scotty being “babydaddy” is yet another of the BLT Queen’s tall tales!!!!
Elizabeth what are you talking about? Beginning, middle and end… That’s exactly what RC&FV have been doing to the point where many people have assessed GH as adopting the telenovela format. GH has done nothing if not reclaimed the classic spirit of what it once was and the skyrocketing ratings reflect this. What show are you watching? Good luck finding a soap that doesn’t feature endless paternity twists. Shay, I think Scott and Heather being Franco’s true parents has brought credibility back to the character. The development was climatic and necessary. Scotty Baldwin is an iconic legacy character and I’m excited to see his, Lucy’s, and Franco’s storyline play out. GH is killing it on all fronts. I for one couldn’t be happier with the show
I can only presume that you started watching after the cancellation of OLTL and/or AMC. Tell me the last time GH had, within a year’s time frame, three baby switches, multiple masked identity/ whose the long lost father stories, major characters with stories unseen for months at a time.
Look, I’m not saying that there’s nothing to enjoy for people who miss their cancelled soaps. Nor am I saying that this team hasn’t saved it. But this GH is a mere shell of its former greatness.
I’ve watched GH for my entire life (thanks to my mom) so technically I’ve watched since Luke&Laura’s infamous wedding but I was six months old. I’m 32 and one of my earliest memories of GH was when Frisco was abducted and held in some cave or dungeon, Felicia meanwhile moved on to a relationship with Colton Shore. That was late 80’s I believe. I feel like I’ve watched it from the beginning because I’ve spent a lot of time watching and reading about classic episodes. I’m not saying that there’s been a year when all tree plot points you mentioned have occurred. How unoriginal would it be if they had? I just accept that all these paternity twists are being revealed within the same year. It’s not like the characters are all the same age that are finding this out. The lies originated at different times they’re just coming out in a short time span. I feel the writers are just positioning characters in more believable families and setting up better storylines. A lot of the paternity reveals have just given answers to long unanswered questions.
“…Why not just call it Carly and her man of the day and leave the show at that.”
it really ire’s me… and irks me that this is the path they take TTTOOO often
what is it? the other Women aren’t good enuf… that they wait sloppy seconds.
yes… she’s still bellowing, over her uninteresting sons. who aren’t furthering along Carly and Sonny. TRUTH
and… I was honestly looking forward to a tryst with Alexis and Julian… heck… throw in Diane…she’s sultry, got the victoria secrets shammy’s, LOL and is always looking for a good time
ok Scotty unleash your beast.
i’m a little over the Carly gets first dibs… on… Franco and Julian. and everyone else
who thinks Scotty should grow a mustouche?
give him that edge…. a darker real – a cold demeanor to trigger his wanton
GH is hot due to the terrific story lines and the best actors on daytime TV. Glad to see the return of Robin and am anxiously awaiting the Robin-Patrick-Sabrina triangle when Robin is discovered to be in PC. This story line along with that of the fight over Maxie’s baby, the discovery of Franco’s parents and the Sonny-Derek war should improve GH ratings.
abc will never bring back one life to live or all my children. general hospital is doing very well, in the ratings. the future looks good for general hospital. rip one life to live and all my children.
Congrats GH! Very entertaining show. Kudos to all involved in front of the cameras and behind the scenes. Great ensemble cast, excellent storytelling. Must see TV. Here’s to another 50!
Gh is at its best right now..great new characters, returns that we have been dreaming about…interraction between evrybody…less Sonny ..❤️❤️No jason
I’m glad for GH & its fans, personally I don’t watch but always good news for any soap to see gains. I will have to disagree somewhat about GH having the best actors each soap has very strong actors, even though I HATE what YR is doing story line wise they do have some great actors…but in its hey day nobody could touch the depth of actors as was on Guiding Light, man it rocked with talent…(as I weep)
OH it was because of Betty Rea and her eye for talent…
soap fodder.
collectively… cast coup
Man… this is tough… depending on which soap tugs at the heartstrings more
CAST
Another World – eclectic – the feel – the vibe – the overall – chemistry – everything
As the World Turns – The families on this show were so real
Guiding Light – The WOMEN on this show ROCKED
Did Ava lie…is Kiki really Silas’s daughter…or is she really Franco’s?
Or someone else’s child? With Ava, you never know…..
Not sure why everyone else is watching, but I am watching because right now because this writing team just knows how to write a soap. They have mini cliff hangers each day to whet your appetite for following day– each week ends of on another cliff hanger — there is that lovely mixture of anticipation and sanctification as stories come to fruition, which are resolved at good pace.
The only thing missing imho is good love story— Patrick and Sabrina don’t cut for me. Tracy and Luke are endearing, but I don’t see that big love story there. There might be potential between Britt and Nickolas– Carly and Franco– Silias and Sam– but there hasn’t been anything shown yet to convince me these are great loves– sexual attraction yes, but I want a love story –not just how hot they can under the sheets. I know some say Patrick and Robin had that, unfortunately I missed their love story unfold, trying to catch up on the web, but just not the same as seeing it grow day by day. But you can tell that these writers like these characters, and like the genre— and viewers respond to that, or at least I do.
*that should have read a lovely mixture of anticipation and satisfaction — sometimes auto correct is so wrong. LOL.
Well put, Mary SF….your views regarding the show and characters you mention are spot on, as is your “auto correct” observation….sometimes I look back on a post and think, “Now I know I didn’t write THAT!” Glad it’s not just me….. ; )
now that Britt’a has had the baby (Ben)…
it would seem like Britt and Nicholas are well on their way….. for romance.
dang! I just can’t fathom what appeal these two are:
they captivate me like no other…. the real – tenderness – shared confidence – comfort level – no wavering on either part… eye contact steady…. I just gush over romance and loving equally
———–
did you ever watch AMC…. back in the day….. Jenny, played by Kim Delaney. I kinda liken Britt’a (Kelly Thiebaud) to her….
just fresh faced… ingenue… innocent wild eyed… not so … LOL be that as it may… Kim Delaney catapulted to stardom… as it were…. and here we have Kelly Thiebaud meteoric rise… Britt’a belongs and is staying put
I ‘m excited about this twosome… and ‘loving’ how Liz is going to factor in to this… as it seems she’s got her shutz pa back… and is on all cylinders firing back, for her own reasons… and story…. hopefully… FINALLY…. and add to this… AJ.
so… it’s going to be interesting, FUN, and nice to see these 4 go at it
I hope you’re seeing some of the magic with Patrick and Robin. I agree that it’s not the same… not watching the magic these two have, in past story, it is thru the roof…. and It’s a little too soon to expect the same… but… fan uproar… bespeaks they are
let’s see them gain 3 million viewers overall and maintain that viewership. Then I will be impressed. this has been Kartini pattern since they took officeThey bring back a vet and spike ratings and then they fall back again. Whatever.
lol
so what – the ratings will not effect your life, will they lol
At least they spike!!! and that’s good! spikes are good..
(better than losing millions)
Gh ratings up IMHO are because the Scorpios and Jones families are front and center. That is why I’m tuning in but I am a bit frustrated of the drop of seeing some characters/sl for weeks? Where is Felicia – and she would be looking for Anna her good friend by now? Let alone have scenes with Maxi.?
If AMC and OLTL won’t be returning, let’s bring back Todd, John and Star. I also think Tad Martin needs to visit Port Charles and sweep Bobbie off her feet. And we know Prospect Park will blame ABC and General Hospital for AMC and OLTL’s downfall. Those soaps had a great network run, and one final year, but they are gone like Ryan’s Hope, Another World, As The World Turns, and all the other greats dramas of daytime TV.
If GH is going to bring an AMC character to GH right now, my vote is David Hayward. He’s Anna’s ex, and the father of her daughter who died. With all of the exes and wanna be lovers she’s got running around GH right now, it would be interesting to throw another one into the mix. Since he can bring people back from death’s door…and heaven in Dixie’s case, he would have come up with a treatment for Luke much quicker. Who knows, maybe the WSB has his brother LEO in witness protection somewhere. Maxie could certainly use a man of her own since Spinelli seems determined to be with Ellie and Leo might be just what the doctor ordered.
Who’s watching this disaster everyday???? I wish it was good because I miss OLTL so much. But can’t stomach this show!
Millions are watching…including you or you wouldnt be complaining…lol
I can’t wait to get back to Robin’s story. I could give a shit less about no talent artist Franco. I hope they don’t drag this out too long.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
