GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny and Mike Face The Truth, Nelle Makes A Bloody Move, Griffin Closes In On Henrik!

Courtesy/ABC

Friday’s episode of General Hospital featured heartbreaking performances by Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) and Max Gail (Mike Corbin) who are bringing the drama as the ABC soap opera tells the story of how Alzheimer’s disease not only affects the person afflicted with it, but also their loved ones.

In story, when Stella (Vernee Watson) comes by the Corinthos’ home as a social worker from the hospital to assist Mike in making long terms decisions while he still can, it sets the stage for a father and son private chat where at first Mike is resistant to having his son, or anyone be in charge of his life, or care, or decisions.  But Sonny reasons with Mike and tells him that he and Carly (Laura Wright) and their family are all Mike has got left so let them take care of him.  Eventually, Mike signs the papers.  Once alone with Stella, she tells Sonny that this is going to be tough on the family, and that Alzheimer’s is an enemy that even he cannot defeat.  Sonny is breaking inside, while Mike is trying to come to terms with his fate as best as he can, as the audience watches this emotional tale unfold.

Elsewhere, Nelle (Chloe Lanier) is ramping up her plot to what looks like to drive Carly nuts by ordering a scarf similar to one that Morgan wore.  She receives it and them proceeds to cut herself and rub her blood all over the scarf.

Griffin (Matt Cohen) is putting two and two together after Maxie (Kirsten) has her baby tested for Huntington’s Disease and Peter August (Wes Ramsey) is also tested and found negative for the same disease.  Nina (Michelle Stafford) also placed Peter around Faison’s (Anders Hove) room around the time of his death when Griffin questioned her. Will Griffin reveal to anyone, especially Anna (Finola Hughes) that he thinks Peter is Henrik Faison?  Stay tuned.

So, what did you think of the performances of Max Gail and Maurice Benard? What is Nelle’s plot to destroy Carly? What will Griffin do with the info he thinks he has? Share your theories via the comment section below!

Love Max….I hope his tenure is a long one….he is the show, right now. I only wish he were not Sonny’s father….
Oh… Nelle is psycho!! Get that baby away from her. But, please…. do not give Carly or Michael custody.
This would be the opportune time to make Nelle Nina’s daughter….hereditary mental issues?
Give the baby to Monica.

Nelle will loose her baby but switch it with Maxi’s who will think her own baby died…Nelle will pass the baby off as her and Micheals but later something goes wrong and the baby is hospitalized when we learn he or she has Huntington disease…well, it could happen!!!

Good one, Jimmy….Nelle is crazy enough to it…
The irony in this would be that Nelle would do to Maxie what Nina did to Ava…..
What goes around, comes around??

Maxi had a genetic test, Jimh…baby won’t have the disease. Soooo happy they’re not going there. Peter/Henrik doesn’t have it either.

When Nelle cut her hand, my mind went to Heather Webber living in a room above Kellys, using a glass to cut her hand on purpose …..
with her crazy self.

I figure Nelle’s baby ends up being Lucas’ and Brad’s baby. Wouldn’t be surprised if we find out Nelle is Franco’s sister since she is acting like Heather used to act at that age.

Hey there, jimh! It’s been awhile…hope you are well! Yes, it does rather blow the mind that there is apparently a neverending font of story ideas for the Corinthii, but nary a germ of a thought as to how to utilize one of the most iconic GH characters of all time, that, of course, being the beloved Laura! Someone did mention that Ava would probably get her jollies doing the males from three generations of one family, but I’m inclined to think that she likes them too young to go after Mike…if anything, Michael would be her speed, and Nelle certainly wouldn’t go for that! Lol… As for your Corrie, I really don’t follow it beyond the headlines, but I can tell you that Eastenders certainly loves to bring their former characters back from the dead…right now it’s that awful Kat Moon, who I watched in “Redwater,” and now she has just returned to Walford bold and brassy as ever…I’ve actually lost count of how many former players have re-emerged alive and well in that soap over the last few years, but it’s a LOT! We GH fans should be so lucky.!…As for Sabs??? Let’s just leave her six feet under…some have opined that the pretty new nurse Francesca could be her baby sis, but I should hope not….first, she is clearly Italian, and secondly, that is one character’s family ties I care not to see continued in Port Charles….it outlived it usefulness the first time around!!!!

Nelle reminds me of young Heather Webber.

I didn’t know a younger Heather, Carrie….but, I have had a taste of the adult Heather; and, I loooove her.
So, seeing the way Nelle is navigating through whatever is going on in her messed-up head, I believe you!!

I love Nelle!! Lol! How can anyone hate her? She is played by a dynamite actress! She is nuttier than a fruitcake! And best of all, she annoys and distresses Carly. ANYONE who causes distress to Sonny and Carly is tops in my book!! I wish the writers had had a character and a plot worked out for Chloe Lanier to play when they hired her and developed the character! She’s a disgruntles girl with an ax to grind. Nope! She is a misunderstood good girl ! Hold up… She is a complete whack job with no grip on reality! Chloe plays the part so well! I wish they had given her a role with more long potential, and a REAL romance with Michael!

Oh, Jovin, my friend…I love Nelle, as well….but, she is venturing into a bloody abyss….playing with fire, which is not a safe environment for a baby.
I think TPTB should have ‘attacked’ this storyline in a ‘cleaner’ manner….Yes, get Carly and Sonny….I’m all for it. ….not this way.
If Nelle were not pregnant, I’d give her free rein, but she has a baby for whom to worry…that’s a no-no for me.
LOL, Jovin, if Nelle were a misunderstood good girl, she would not be so sanguinary by resorting to ghoulish behavior—-by the same token she is a good girl with mental issues….needs to be stopped before she puts her baby in harm’s way.
A good match would be with detective Finn—-He is the exemplar of all that’s lawful, and gorgeous to boot; he can put her on the road to righteousness…oh, yeah: Hallelujah!! LOL.
Chloe deserves the Younger Actress award…….she plays the vindictive, wronged step-sister to the hilt, but keep Michael out of Nelle’s orbit…..I sort of disagree with you there. I would not applaud a romance with Michael for anyone. He looks like he’s just fallen from the sky, most of the time….confused.
I hope Nelle’s ax doesn’t land on anyone’s throat, Jovin……HaHa.
Later….

Jovin, well said above, and props to you on your stellar dissertation via the 3/3/18 “Quake” thread in which you were shot out of a cannon and so on point! You can always be counted on for great content. Loving the character of Nelle and her portrayer, she’s a classic agitator that drives story, and the fact that we know her machinations are going to blow up in her face further solidifies her underdog status and makes me want to root for her even more. And if they continue with the playbook that launched the character of Carly in 1996, there’s no reason why she can’t be a mainstay for many years to come. Although, I’m just not seeing the person on the canvas right now that will be her Jason—calling her on her BS and reining her in.

@Jovin (and CeeCee….)…I love Nelle, too! She’s such a delicious bad gal…and cool as all get out! Plus, anyone who possesses the ability to get Carly and Bobbie’s goat so badly is alright by me! As for her resemblance to a young Heather Webber??? Yeah, I can see that…she has the same gumption and steely-determination to obtain what she wants as Ms. Webber demonstrated in her early hungry days and she doesn’t care who she has to plow through to achieve her objectives! How satisfying would it be if Nelle temporarily landed in the criminal loony bin alongside Heather and they plotted together to bring down their collective list of undesireables???? Now THAT would be too much fun! (But darn you, Jovin… you’re making me miss Heather now more than ever….Port Charles is mighty boring without her to mix things up!!! Time for another Robin Mattson guest stint!)

Max Gail is softening the character of Sonny. I know you dont like him but it is giving us a taste of what Sonny COULD be.

Nelle should have been taken care of after she screwed with Sonny. THEN, Nelle screws with Valentin. TWO guys who are supposed to be bad asses! Nelle has some guts, for sure.

I believe Max is helping Maurice bring out acting depths he never knew he had.

I see that, Timmmy……I guess even murderers have a heart?….. LOL.
I agree….Sonny’s heart bleeds for his father…the lone tear speaks volumes. But, it is Max who enthralls me.
My Dad loves Barney Miller and I do watch the reruns…so, I see Max as the goofy character, you describe…..
perhaps, this is why we are so taken with his skillful representation of Alzheimer’s.
Chloe is going places, T…..she’s outstanding….
I can’t see anyone else playing this part….

Hello again, CeeCeeGirl! Whilst it is indisputable that Max Gail is doing a bang-up acting job on GH, my only problem with his portrayal is that for those of us who fondly remember Ron Hale as Mike Corbin, we don’t recognize this lovable lug posing as Sonny’s father! This was a character who was tortured and intense due to his hardscrabble life and gambling addiction…he never demonstrated a particularly sunny disposition or friendly nature that has been shining through despite the Alzheimer’s diagnosis ala the Max version…. Also, it’s impossible for me to buy into the notion that this sweetheart of a man could have ever fathered such a nasty piece of work like Sonny! That one just beggars belief! For me, no matter how “skillful” Gail’s “representation” is, he seems to be just another feeble attempt to humanize the Corinthos Clan, especially the “Dimpled Don”…just like the father-son bipolar tale, Morgan’s oft-mentioned demise and other gimmicky storylines that were supposed to tug at our heartstrings and make us fall in love with this much-mocked character and his loathsome family. Alas, nothing—and nobody—can accomplish that feat…not even Wojo!!!!

Welcome back, Shaybelle….I surely missed you!!
I didn’t know the other Mike Corbin, so I can only speak of Max Gail and his performance.
You are so right about him….regardless of his affliction, Cooky Stan comes through loud and clear. I can’t picture him as Mike Corbin the debaucher ( do you watch the reruns?).
Perhaps Max was purposely hand-picked to showcase the deterioration of someone’s mind due to Alzheimer’s….a behavior which is completely to the left of what he/she used to be.
As far as humanizing Sonny? “Ain’t” never “gonna” work for moi!! And, I cringe each time I hear the name Morgan…or see it in print. Whiny, little baby. How old was he supposed to have been?
I hope Nelle drives Carly so-crazy-out-of-this-realm to warrant a lock-up in an asylum. Bedlam, ma chere.

i liked Ron Hale too but im letting Max have his day(could be worse: they could had brought back a certain dead nurse-lol)…it just bugs me they can write tales for Corintho’s clan for 20 years but cant think of anything for Laura?….hey, what if Ava and Mike fell in love????…..my Coronation Street has become too Americanish with too much gloom and doom but on the bright side they dont rapidly age their children and killed off characters dont return from the dead…characters do live more real life drama and have more normal jobs-cab drivers, food servers, market workers ect.

Thank you, CeeCeeGirl! I missed you, too! Before I had my new computer set up, I was using my iPad to reply here, and a week or so ago, certain GH threads were consistently re-directing to third-party websites, even on the privacy setting. It was driving me crazy, so I just took a break, but I am glad to be back! I remember Mike Corbin from when was running Kelly’s Diner and trying to kick his gambling habit….he was quite serious in nature and not at all Wo-jovial…just very resigned to his plight and businesslike, trying to buckle down and straighten up once and for all….I actually liked him as portrayed by Ron Hale because I knew the actor from his days playing Dr. Roger Coleridge on Ryan’s Hope alongside Ava’s mom, the ever-crazy Delia….what a pair they were! Again, he was not a happy-go-lucky sort on there either, so maybe that was just Hale’s own intense personality shining through both of his characters, who’s to say? At any rate, I don’t know that Mike was necessarily a debauched dude like his priapic offspring….just a perpetual loser at games of chance and also a deadbeat father to Sonny, which I suppose was intended to excuse some of “Dimples’” many character faults….not that any explanation would work for me either, CeeCee! We are quite comfortably entrenched in our mutual loathing of the mobsterman! Anyway, I would derive great pleasure from seeing Nelle drive Carly over the edge with her Morgan games…she should take Bobbie with her, too, because let me tell you, back in the day, Nurse Spencer was one nasty piece of work herself…the dirty deeds she tried to pull off on Laura were cringeworthy! Ain’t payback a b*+@#, even if it’s decades in the making???? Hah!

My hope is that Nelle is trying to get Carly to think that Morgan is still alive but it’s Nelle that goes crazy at the sight of Morgan actually having returned from being in a coma for the past year (hey, if they can spirit Robin out of the locked room in the hospital seconds before an explosion, they can have someone have rescued Morgan).
I missed Friday but will look for it on abc.com in a week when they post, sounds like it was a good ep.

What a spooky twist that would be, Jacob!! Good one….. I do like Nelle, but not like this…..she is truly nuts….
I did want her to sock it ( been watching reruns of LAUGH IN, LOL) to Carly, but, I never thought she’d go this far….my Lord, these writers have a thirst for the macabre….criminally insane, Nelle is….

Yes, Celia, Nelle is truly scary. One of the best villains in soaps right now; she and Helena would have really hit it off. Chloe Lanier is a real find and has consistently made the part multi-faceted. I’m not a fan of Mike/Max but I applaud GH and Y&R for tackling this heartbreaking illness with sensitivity. To me, the Drew and Franco alliance has jump-started that storyline (which seems to have dragged on longer than the Iraq war). These 2 actors play off one another brilliantly and I’m so glad Billy M is out from the shadow of stone-cold Jason. It was so touching last week when Drew found Franco hysterical and demanded, protectively, to know what had been done to him. Funny if they actually bond and it drives Sam and Jason together AGAIN.

@Soaphound.
Hi, there,
Poor Nelle….If this character sticks around, how will TPTB deal with her? How does one come back from this demonic behavior? ….oh, golly gee; I forgot…it’s a soap.
A couple of seconds in a mental establishment and she’ll come back brand new. LOL.
I truly do not ken, nor have the stomach to watch this mayhem when there’s a baby involved……even when fictitious. I find it very disturbing and distasteful…..
Mia Farrow will descend upon her??
As far as Jason and Sam?….. already soooo tired of them….the storylines have become too predictable….these two getting together was known by everyone….prolonging it was excrutiatingly painful to watch…..not awaited with anticipated, bated breath….sooo pedestrian….just as Harvey having pushed Drew down those infamous stairs…guessed it as soon as the threatening figure ( Harvey) appeared at the top of the staircase…..looming over the boys.
And, yes….agreed—Drew’s concern was very endearing. I have always believed their story was just beginning…..as everyone else. We were all of one mind.
Sam is as boring as ever, and I am over Jason….not thrilling me.

LOL; I wouldn’t mind Morgan turning up alive and that’d be a good a plot as any for it to happen! Funny! Not sure, though, that Bryan Craig would be available; think he just got a new primetime show if I remember correctly? Though they could recast I thought he was phenomenal in the role. (and, they did just show his picture on the computer when Nell was devising her scheme.)

What’s wrong with your idea? Nothing…’cept Carly would win again and I’d hate that!’ 😉

Dear rebecca1, I am so OVER Carly and her clomping shoes. You’d think someone with her dough could find a shoe that fits properly. Whenever she’s angry or trying to make a point, she slips on what seem to be size 19s and stalks around the set. By the way, has she thanked Drew or Kim yet for saving Josslyn’s life? In between stabbing him in the back over Jason, that is. I also agree about how difficult it would be to recast the phenomenal, sexy Bryan Craig. Now THOSE are tough shoes to fill.

Soaphound!

I am continuously impressed by you! Your wit is, well, witty! 😉 Seriously, you crack me up. (Love the Carly shoes and how you swung it around to Morgan’s shoes.) And the visuals! LOL…I’m picturing Carly as a toddler wearing her mom’s heels. Thanked Drew? She’d have to remember he exists first!

You are upping the ante with each hilarious yet observant comment…

Made me smile…

Replying here…knowing soap writers they could change the story about Maxi’s baby…maybe Peter dne something t change the results…its a soap so you never know!!!!

LOL…Jimh, we don’t want Maxi’s baby to inherit that horrible disease…. let’s hope not!

Let’s tweak your idea: Nell steals Maxi’s baby but at an early age we find out he or she inherited Maxi’s younger years gift-for- -gab, started yakking up a storm (no Kristen Storm pun intended) and Nell was last seen rocking to and fro (think Laura when she went catatonic) from yap overload. There’s a note pinned to the baby’s clothes that tells the authorities to please send her child to Carly Corinthos, the baby’s grandmother, in her final act to attempt to drive Carly crazy…

A short time later, Carly is walking walking with the toddler in the park and Maxi, nearby and having a picnic with her once brother-in-law now fiance overhears the child blab on and on and on and claims, “My baby’s alive!!!!! She’s alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Fade to black…

LOLOLOLOL…I’ve gotta stop free associating! 😉

I’m also pretty sure they’re setting her up for a murder mystery – and it will be Mike that will be the killer and will have totally forgotten about it. (that’s how I’d write it anyway). 🙂

OOOh! Another good idea, Jacob! But, I’d hate to think Mike goes out of this life as a murderer. And if he DID remember it that would be too much for him to bear….and that would make his sad story even more heart-wrenching to watch.

I like Mike…also liked his girlfriend Rita but i guess she is gone?

Hi Jimh…

Max Gail has been so excellent in this role that it’s hard to believe he plays comedic roles, as well. Just delivering an outstanding, tear-at-your-heartstrings performance.

Rita bailed on him. She came to visit him at Sonny’s and Carly wound up telling her about his illness. Sadly, she said it was too much for her and that she knew she wouldn’t be able to handle it.

I’m not sure we’ve seen the last of her. She’s the same Rita…the bartender that Jason met in New York when he was fleeing the guys sent to kill him. To thank her, Jason gave her the watch that Huxley gave to him on the boat over to the States. Not sure if any of that has any significance but, who, knows? Maybe it’s got Drew’s memories!

Thanks for the reply…did not see the ep with Rita!!!

Hey, Jimh! Any time! Oh, and, Mike wasn’t home at the time so it was quite sad. He told Sonny that he was going home to be with Rita and they had to break it to him that she wouldn’t be there…

You’d write a story where an Alzheimer’s patient commits murder and can’t remember it because of their disease? What a great message to send. Just wow.

Max Gail absolutely broke my heart in this episode. Give this man an Emmy!

0oooh my god!
Max Gail (Mike Corbin) is phenomenal I didn’t just watch him in awe I felt him !
Sonny, I can feel his pain too..

BRAVO !! Maurice and Max ..

Nelle is boring me and Griffin has lost his charm so eehhh.

su0000, we agree AGAIN!

Hi Timmm ..
My lifer soaper neighbor informed me;
Carly was much the same as Nelle and what goes around comes around.

And she knows her soap stuff at age 72 and a GH fan since black & white days..
(just wanted to mention that lol

Hey, SuzieQ….you have your neighbor….I have my grandmother…LOL.
My Great-Grandmother ( RIP) used to ‘watch’ soaps when they came through the RADIO airwaves….one being: ‘Amanda Of Honemoon Hill’. How does that title grab you?? HaHa. ….she still talked about that program; she loved it that much!
Yes, I need to walk the walk of shame….I agree with you and Timmm. I must, reluctantly, give Sonny/Maurice his dues: he got to me….go figure.

I’m thinking Nell putting her blood on the scarf will be her downfall; all they have to do is test the blood for DNA and voila, Nell!

rebecca1, we are talking about the inept PCPD-keystone cops at best. They will be in way over their heads testing blood and DNA, haha.

LOL, drm. Maybe Spinelli will send Jordan an email and give her a clue.

hahaha…sorry; dmr (not drm).

I hope so!!!!

What close to the heart stories on both GH and Y&R ( Nina and the Abbott family) with excellent performances all around. You can also add Laura/Carly’s more understated (for her) performance to Max and Maurice. Just wish we didn’t have to have back to back to back sad stories on GH ( there’s enough going on in what used to be called the real world), as well as another reason for the Corinthos family to mourn. Plus I also have always liked Auntie Stella so it’s good to see that she is settling into Port Charles in a more productive way.

Just a thought. We all know what horrible diseases Hunnington and Alzheimers are. Why not let Andre continue in someway with his research to help at least with saving memories?

As for Nelle. She will ultimately become too clever for herself. Just wish they didn’t waste a really good actress from the Fluke story into this role.

Poor Griffin…having to make a choice based on his doctor confidentiality versus protecting or informing those like Anna and Maxie who should know the truth. I figure he will innocently spill the beans. And then there is still Valantin’s involvement which will muddy it even more. Do like Peter, though. And think he is really caring for Maxie’s welfare.

I don’t think it would be a good idea to have Andre working on a cure for Huntington’s or Alzheimers. I don’t know if they’ll ever mention the former again if neither Maxi’s baby or Peter have it…but it would trivialize a real life tragedy if they were to have Andre work on some “fix” for Mike and his alzheimers. I HOPE they’re not going there. This is a very reality-based heartbreaking all-too-real illness that many individuals and their families go through. I think it would be insulting to have a “TV” cure when none is available in reality. Can’t say definitively they won’t go there but I hope not.

On the other hand, I was listening to PBS I think it was and they DO have some hope for patients. Exercise and a particular diet, certain types of music seem to have an effect on memory. And, there are a lot of clinical trials going on that seems to slow the progression. It would be great if they would explore those options with Mike so that the story could be a bit more hopeful and we’d have the great Max Gail “in town” longer.

You like Aunt Stella? Aye, yi, yi, Rose!!! 😉 I couldn’t stand her at best when she first snarled her first sentence and I couldn’t fathom why they would take away a spot from Mac, Felicia, Lucy…more Scotty time (love him) or…bring back Sean!!! As for her social worker skills, she wasn’t exactly oozing compassion; just the facts m’am. She gave just the facts…

I also saw part of the PBS or another program on hope for patients of Hunnington’s and Alzheimers. I can only speak for myself, but I would fear either of those more than some other diseases.

I don’t think having Andre work towards a cure would trivialize it at all if it was written properly. Seems to me a good topic for a program called General Hospital. Just another way to show more about how dedicated people are working to find cures for these diseases, or at least a way to alleviate some of it’s worst symptoms until they find a cure. And how hard it is. At the same time from a story point of view this could be a way for Andre to redeem himself after all the damage he caused with Jason and Drew.

At first I didn’t like Auntie Stella too much, But she has grown on me lately. I thought how she spoke to Sonny, Mike , Michael and Carly was fine. But that’s me…I don’t like too much “oozing.” She even remembered to get them pamphlets in her car for more info. She didn’t need to do this.

As far as Scotty and the others you mentioned, i agree they do need way more air time and story. But you also need other characters like Auntie and Amy to fill-in other roles that don’t need as much air time.

Hey, Rose…

I hear what you’re saying and it does seem coincidental that Andre was working on a cure for Alzheimers, mapping memories, etc and all of a sudden Mike has that very disease. But I still don’t think they should go there because ultimately he WON’T find the cure since none in reality exists. This is too important a topic and they’re doing it very realistically. The heartbreak, the toll it takes on the victim and his/her loved ones is already something that most people are familiar with either in their own family or friends or at least if they haven’t lived under a rock. I think the show is doing an excellent job of bringing it to the forefront just in and of itself; no miracle cure would do it justice unitl hopefully there really is one! Interestingly I thought I heard in the coming attractions today Sonny asking if there was a cure…I THOUGHT that’s what I heard. I’m hoping they go with the avenues that exist in reality…music, medication, diet, exercise and some other holistic approaches that may allay/delay symptoms. That I think is realistic and possible.

As for Aunt Stella, she wasn’t doing them any “favor” by getting pamphlets from her car; it’s part of her job. She’s counseling families on how to cope and strategies to use and much of that is contained in those pamphlets. She just forgot to bring them…uh-oh!!! Does that mean she too is???? Okay; bad joke. But clever, n’est pas?

😉

Rebecca1…I didn’t suggest Andre would find a cure, but that just he could work on it. I don’t think this would take away from the seriousness of the diseases, how hard it is to find a cure or at least delay their horrible effects, and how it affect friends and family. Even Y&R had Abby taping Dina’s recollections on certain parts of her life. Not a cure, but something to try to compensate for not being able to remember anymore.

And as for Auntie, we have to agree to disagree.

Rose…Yes; agree to disagree. They may have Andre doing just that. Personally I don’t think it’s a good idea in this situation. But, as said, coincidence that they mentioned that was what he was working on, or did that just give them the idea to work on an actual story with a well-known character.

And no to “Auntie.” But never say never. If I find myself warming to her I won’t fight it! 😉

ya…I dont mind Stella too much byt why cant Felicia become a social worker and work with patients???

Hey, Jimh…

I’m not even sure if Felicia went to college. To become a social worker you need to have a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. If your Bachelors is in another area, you can still get a masters in social work, then you need experience, etc. Felicia CAN…if she feels like doing all that! 😉

I’m guessing “auntie” did. Not sure how raising Curtis and his brother by herself…

Maybe they can skip the psychiatrist and social worker jobs and just have everybody get an emotional support bearded dragon!

Hello again, Rose! Just wanted to tell you that it was moi who responded to your Kennedy/BRF posts to which you alluded some time back. I tried to reply at that juncture and my comments failed to make it online. Also, I believe I received a messge from you about “Miranda?” Again, I made mention of that topic, but I gather that was not deemed permissible either! I do wish the rules regarding the discussion of other television vehicles were more clearcut. It seems that some can ramble on unabated about their viewing habits whilst others cannot even dare make mention of their favorite programs, especially those of the foreign variety. Anyway, hope you get this message so you know you were not ignored.

Hi Shay…”Yes,” sometimes I do like to comment about other programs that I at least try to connect with the soaps. “Murder She Wrote” is one since many soap actors /actresses make guest appearances early in their careers. Fun to see them back then. But because of some of our varied viewing interests and genres, some of my comments don’t always make the cut either. Also is it okay to use the work actress for a female now, or is it just actor? Still think “Miranda” was my big find.

Trying to remember what I said about the Kennedy clan. Probably in relation to the longevity of the Q’s. And unless you have a lot of kids, about how “dynasties” have a time limit…except maybe the Queen and the Windsor’s. But I’m sure you could add more to that.

Looks like they ARE going to go there, Rose! Memory mapping for Mike? I still don’t like the idea but I can see where it all ties together. Is it ethical for them to go that route with a real disease? Not sure how I feel about it…

I am sorry… but both of these story lines are getting on my nerves and are not interesting anymore. I want more of anyone else… but Mike and Nelle!

Max Gail is wonderful in this part and should definitely get an Emmy nomination next year.

Max Gail hits it out of the park every episode.

Oh, gimme a break already!!!!! This Alzheimer’s story is just another excuse to give Carly and (especially) Sonny yet more airtime!!!!! I’m sorry…but Max Gail ain’t cutting it for me!!!!! He is NO Ron Hale!!!!! Not impressed here!!!!!

N-E-X-T……….

I echo those sentiments, Jaybird! As much as Max Gail may have an appealing personal quality, I am not buying his portrayal as the character of Mike Corbin, at least not as someone who knew and appreciated him ala Ron Hale. Despite the current actor’s apparent popularity amongst a lot of fans, I simply cannot reconcile the marked differences between the “Two Mikes,” Alzheimer’s or no Alzheimer’s! They are completely departed characters with no similarities whatsoever!!! I also agree that bringing back Mike was just another device to give Sonny yet more screentime…. as well as the umpteenth attempt to “humanize” this much-maligned mobster!

Thank You, Shay. I CANNOT BELIEVE that TIIC at GH brought back the character of Mike Corbin…and for what?!?!? TRULY DUMB ALL-AROUND?!?!?

Have a good one, Shay.

I was a little unsure when I heard they were recasting Mike Corbin, cause I loved Ron Hale in the role. He played Mike so well for 15 years. But I have to hand it to them, they struck gold with the casting of Max Gail. He has been nothing short of phenomenal. I have unfortunately seen Alzheimer’s first hand on multiple occasions in my family, and the way he’s playing it is picture perfect. He keeps this up and there will be some Emmy gold in his future. He’s been a real highlight of the show recently.

And even though some people will never give him credit for anything, I think Maurice Benard has been doing some excellent work as well, portraying the softer, emotional side of Sonny in dealing with his father. You would think Max and Maurice had been working together for years with the on screen chemistry they already have.

Max Gail has shocked me! He was a goofy detective on Barney Miller 100 years ago. I couldnt tell you what he has been up to since. Now I know. He has been honing his craft and his acting has been spectacular! He has brought out some of Sonny’s better qualities and also his fear of losing a dad that he never had been close to and seems to regret. Wouldnt it be something if Max and Marla over at Y&R both win Emmy’s for their stories? Some criticize GH for the Alzheimer story after Y&R started theirs. I get that BUT the two are being told differently. I enjoy them both. Y&R is focusing more on Dina’s bad behavior and her love for John while GH is focusing more on Mike reacquainting himself with his loved ones and yet struggling to remember them, who is there and who is not. Plus, him and Sonny have a lot to say to each other before Mike drifts away.

Helle is F…… with Carly and that is good. BUT, taunting her with Morgan’s death is too much!

Griffin is being wasted. Give the guy something to do already!

ONE thing I wish that Steve and Kelly would quit doing. Jason has been back for months now, why is it every time they run into each other they have the classic “Soap Stare”, “OMG you are ALIVE!” Stop it!

I agree about poor Griffin, Timm. The guy has “worried and afraid” practically stamped on his brow. Such a gorgeous waste.

WOW … that’s smack dab in “our” face. I get it tho

this is the case of where a persons looks take over… and you forget about his/her being?

we waited for eon , no? for Griffin to break lose or FREE him from his shackles ( his disrobing , man of the cloth) … lest he waste his life with Sonny. I thought for sure Claudette was the WOMAN. now that goes to Ava.

so…. what shocked me to look @Griffin again. when Scotty was visiting Ava and wanted her to go out with him … for drinks or something.

as he’s telling Ava…. about Griffin… ” he has no personality”

so… yes… Griffin needs a life outside of “lending” an ear .

we know next to nothing about what he’s capable. outside of his miracle work .

I believe that’s enough … ??? why not when they have to work endlessly and tirelessly for Sonny and carly.

the one thing that could kick start… more than his libido… or give us more. Bring Claudette back,,, watch Ava now

it’s too bad that Charlotte wasn’t Claudette and Griffin… it’s just a damned shame that story went to Lulu.

another danged shame… that Griffin isn’t Anna son… that’s going to lame Peter August.

what about Brad and Griffin … no?

Ahhhh, Griffin…a chiseled Michelangelo reproduction. A gorgeous waste, indeed, Soaphound!!

Soaphound…I LOVE your idea about Carly being sent to Shadybrook…YEAH!!!!!

ROCK ON, SOAPHOUND!!!!!

I liked the performance from Max and Sonny. Such great acting! Nell is a little snake. I was happy to see that Michael got a date with Francesca but can only imagine what Nell will do when she sees them together.

Okay, let me begin with saying that the Alzheimer’s story with Mike (Max Gail) has gone above and beyond what Y&R has done with Dina. Mike’s story is more real. It is more informative and helps others understand what this illness does. I think all of the cast have done an amazing job in dealing with this issue. My strongest kudos go to the actress who plays Stella. (Vernee Watson-Johnson). She brought up all the issues that families face and also was able to be a strong ally with Sonny. She kept him in check while also showing empathy for his current experience. All around this has been an amazing ride for this story line. Now for the Nelle story… what Nelle is doing is completely sick. She is a whack job who needs to be stopped. Look, I get that people want less attention on the character of Carly. But I think going after someone to rub their child’s death in their face is awful. This is not a story I can stand by. It’s wrong on so many levels. We watched for months while Carly came unglued over his death and dealt with her grief and the destruction of her marriage. Even bringing back the dreaded real Jason was a way to help Carly cope with Morgan’s death. Enough is enough on this front. I hope they end this story quickly. To me I think that Ava will find out about this decision of Nelle’s and put an end to it. She loved Morgan. She knows she will be blamed for it in the end and it will affect her relationship with Griffin. Nelle needs to go. She has no connection to this town other than Michael. I believe she will lose the baby. I believe that Carly and Jason will be smart enough to find out that scarf she is sending has Nelle’s DNA all over the place. C’mon now, let’s all be realistic here for a moment. I realize this is a soap and most times logic leaves the scene but this whole concept is just wrong. Nelle deserves to severely punished for this. Maybe a return to the psych ward? GH is watchable again. They are using a great majority of their staff again. And most of the stories are good. But Nelle’s storyline needs to go. It’s just not right. Grief is something that no one should make light of. Carly and Sonny both lost a child. It was unbearable to watch happen. Let’s not make this something that drags on for eternity. Carly is a smart chick. She will put it together. C’mon GH, get it together. I’m counting on you.

I hear you and at the same time Carly and Sonny had little empathy for taking away Monica’s child. Oh, wait! Sonny killed him and Carly helped cover it up! And they never showed one drop of remorse other than how it effected their relationship with Michael and Avery. They also send Monica’s “other child”, Jason, into the line of fire every time Sonny might be in danger. For all their love of him and disbelief, gratitude that he’s back…did they talk him into staying out of the business? Nope. Each time Sonny goes to anything remotely dangerous she says, “take Jason with you.”

So, nope, no sympathy for them. I LOVED Morgan…the character and Bryan’s portrayal. But I have no qualms about Nell’s attempt to drive Carly crazy. In real life? Of course I’d abhor anything so sick. On GH? To Carly? Bring it on!

How about this one, rebecca1: Carly is sent to Shadybrook for “evaluation” while Sonny prowls the sets with sunken eyelids and Jason stares in what appears to be disbelief, though I can never tell the difference between that look and constipation. While under doctors’ care, Nelle continues her psychological torture by assigning each of Carly’s Jimmy Choos a separate personality, each representing someone she stabbed in the back in days past and present. Eventually, all those “size 19s” combine forces and send her over the edge. She is then prescribed BOTH Sonny’s anti-mania medicine (which Nelle replaces with placebos) and Mike’s memory helpers, making her unable to forget ANY ROTTEN THING SHE’S EVER DONE. As Jason is banned from Shadybrook, Carly begs Drew to pull a Navy Seal rescue effort on her behalf, to which he replies, “Sorry, Carly, but I warned you when you threw me to the wolves that the “other shoe” would drop. Looks like they have…all of them. See ya.” Too implausible??

Soap! You’re a shoe-in, I mean shoo-in, 😉 for the MF comedic poster award! Got my vote!

But let’s not taint the sweet memory of Carrie Bradshaw with Carly C. I rather think she’s wearing cheap knockoffs, hey! (not that I’m knocking the knockoff, some are done very well…for as long as they last, ahem). The one important aspect to the story that you left out would be Heather Weber, transfered to the same facility, going up to Carly in the rec room and clobbering her over the head with Sam’s stilletos which she stole from Sam (who was having lunch with Alexis at Kellys) while on a BLT run.

Getting back to your scenario, I’d like to tweak it a bit to Drew saying, “I see you’re desperate Ms. Corinthos and I hate to drop the “other shoe” but…have we met? I’m sorry; I have amnesia.”

Implausible/shmausible!

I only have one little comment, Mateo…..I soooo agree with you….I had said that I thought Dina’s story was sort of a mockery. I did not appreciate how it was told….made Dina look foolish. It has gotten better and I cannot deny Marla her craft….she’s a seasoned, wonderful, talented actress.
But, Max, as Mike tells his story, is so much more real, as you say…

Max Gail should be hailed – along with; the supporting cast – for holding this story, together.

Sonny and Carly have become so weak… caricatures of themselves… which is laugh out loud at the both of them.

the mere fact that TPTB do not see how weak this show has become.. because they choose to feature full time.. the dullard corinthos family.

the blame entirely is on Frank Valentini. as he lays waste to his agenda and OH puhlease… make budget.. if ABC OWNS the show.. I would imagine that’s not the real problem

What is really “laugh out loud”-if you were to read Laura Wright’s Instagram posts or Tweets-hysterical-“all about me.” Clearly, she believes the hype. She seems to have regressed to being 16 years old.

Max Gail whos’ superlative TURN .. @Barney Miller … 1975-1982. 8 seasons.

Wallah… TWO EMMY NOMINATIONS as best supporting actor in a comedy.

years… 1979 ( and the winner is : Robert Guillaume, SOAP )

years… 1980 ( and the winner is : Harry Morgan , MASH )

the show just excelled in writing and directing… during it’s tenure

woah… i’ll go their , again… what a dream boat.

I hope.. at the very least… that GH gives him times of lucidity… WITH any one other than… Sonny and CArly… they are generating nothing.

you can imagine my surprise.. and more than likely.. Max’ . when he shared those stunning scenes with Rebecca Herbst @the church. the day of the earthquake.

so exquisite , heart felt, h e a r t

I want to dance with

i’m sorry that this story was rushed from the get go.

they could have given Max Gail ‘ Mike… a mind of his own… for a little while.

but then… why would they ? this would lessen Maurice Benard character value

just like wasting the character of Nelle… I’ve posted from the start.. they need to take her out of the Corinthos’ orbit. God.. at least we’re not seeing her wasting all her time with Michael…. what a snooze fest that is. so Carly gets to scream wail and what??? fear for her life ? WITH Sonny and Jason looking after her ?

the end all be all… Team Sonny and CArly… will rise to the top of the heap… OK next

sure makes for an uninteresting hour. I will hang in for the other 98% of the cast, make that 94%. fire Jason, Sam, Michael, Nelle.

the good acting is always going to be the supporting cast… it’s GREAT show… WITH Max Gail and Chloe Lanier. by god… it’s not bad. it just sucks that this show focus is LOST

my hope … come August or September – thereabouts – Frank Valentini is given the AX

Frank and Maurice… RUSHED right out of the gate…. as Sonny called the shots from the start… and we have Mike … protesting… losing his thought… again… stating he doesn’t want Sonny help. etc… etc… etc…

that’s how dull this father /son scenes play out. NOTE … with father and son.

you can play out this story any way you want… the impact of what Alz·hei·mer’s means.. is not lost. it’s horrific … outside of losing a child… the most gut wrenching their is.

I will not acknowledge the actor who plays Sonny… he’s not a contributor

“…this would lessen Maurice Benard character value ”

the Sonny and Carly hour.

I truly believe this is what Frank Shelley and Chris plus Jean have done

case in point: LOOK @ how well… Valentin / Nina / Charlotte TOOK OFF.

they have virtually disappeared… from the screen. no other couples or pairs have truly developed.

you have some super power possibilities

STILL

Valentin and Nina
Kim and Julian
Kim and Drew
Drew and Liz
Griffin and Liz
Ava and Griffin
Ava and Ric Lansing
Lucas and Brad
scotty and Ava
Mac and Felicia
Ned and Olivia

God – the excitement is their

Oh, I like Valentin and Nina, too-and I think fireworks will explode when Nina finds out about Val’s connection to “Parking Lot Pete” (Faison’s son). I’m not a fan of Kim Nero at all. I like Ava and Griffin. Love Scotty! Always love to see Felicia!

That Picture above… spells it all out… so much disconnect on a powerful story.. that any way you cut it… is so impactful gut wrenching… that it’s been lost on father and son.

Thank You Max Gail.

since this story premiered: Maurice Benard – CONTINUALLY – looks for Laura Wright Carly to help him … talk, explain, emote … ???

so therefore, this is not having the impact it should

he will stare off , no eye to eye … and can drop a tear as the scene closes. so what?

Max has got it

he alone.. is affecting and triggering all the response that’s needed .. because, like Mike told Liz… when I hear the word the doctors told me… I get scared.

I’ve said for a while, that it appears as though Maurice Benard adlibs, and it’s really not working..

Patrick and dmr….agreed…..Sonny’s lone tear did tug at the heartstrings a bit….then I remind myself of the strong disdain I feel for him….and, yeah, throw Carly in the mix.
dmr: thanks for saving me from saying it…I have had enough of Kim. I don’t know…she is soooo annoying to me—miss goody-two-shoes; waaaay over-done. She knows Jaded Julian has the hots for his ex-bunny, yet she exchanges fluids with him? Yeah…..writers, wherefore art thou going with this?
Kudos to Drew for having had the courage to walk out on Sam. See, that’s one thing I will never understand: loving two men, at the same time. I’m not saying it does not happen ( not as naive as I sound, LOL)….I simply do not understand it. What does this say for Sam. Ugh!!

General Hospital

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nina Confronts Ava for Sabotaging Her Relationship With Sonny and Signs the Divorce Papers

Looks like Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Ava (Maura West) are back to be each other’s sworn enemy number one. By the end of the Monday, April 22nd episode of General Hospital, the women know where they stand with each other after Nina goes in on Ava accusing her of wanting Sonny (Maurice Benard) all to herself, while her marriage has been on the rocks.

In story, at Nina’s office, Ava shows up to see Nina and says she is sorry about what happened with Sonny and that he reacted the way he did, acknowledging that is was over the top, even for Sonny. Ava says she’ll smooth things over, but Nina says she now understands how manipulative and transparent Ava really is.

Given their horrible history, Nina goes in on Ava and how she should never have trusted her. Nina wants to know how long has Ava had this agenda dating all the way back to telling Nina to turn Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) into the SEC. Ava says she never told her do to that, but Nina wants to know how long Ava has been playing her for a fool.

Ava says she moved in with Sonny to keep Avery safe and she wants to be on good terms with Avery’s father, Sonny. Nina thinks she likes being in Sonny’s inner circle. Ava tells Nina if she goes to him about her advising Nina to call the SEC on Carly and Drew, it won’t work.  Sonny still considers Nina a traitor and he will think she’s lying because she’s so desperate to win him back. Ava says if Nina would stop blaming everyone else that maybe Sonny would respect her.  Nina says “like he does you?” Ava says Sonny not only respects her, but he also counts on her.

From there, Ava launches into why she and Sonny understand each other, after all, Sonny is a powerful, turbulent, and sometimes violent man. She goes so far to say if Nina wanted someone to just sit by the fire with and play with their grandchildren, she’s got the wrong guy.  Ava then talks about Mike from Nixon Falls (Sonny with amnesia) and how Sonny hid the darkest parts of himself from Nina back then, whereas with Ava they are the same similar creatures, so he doesn’t have to hide anything.

Nina wants to know just what Ava wants with Sonny? What is her end game? Ava responds that they understand each other, in ways she can’t with Sonny. Nina tells Ava she can go ahead and have it all and signs Sonny’s divorce papers. Ava walks out with the documents, while Nina in tears at her desk, takes off her wedding rings and has her assistant come in so she can messenger the rings back to Sonny’s address.

The episode and these scenes featured great performances by Cynthia Watros and Maura West. You can check some of the scenes below.

Now, let us know, what is Ava’s next move? Is she going to become Mrs. Sonny Corinthos? Do you like Ava and Nina as enemies? Comment below.

Ellen Travolta Makes Another Return to General Hospital

If General Hospital’s Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) nuptials are on, you didn’t think Grandma Gloria Cerullo would miss out on the festivities, now did you?

Casting news from Soap Opera Digest reveals that Ellen Travolta is back taping scenes that will air the week of May 13th on the ABC daytime drama series.  When viewers learned that Carmine Cerullo, was also on his way back to Port Charles, now in the face and body of actor George Russo, it only made sense that Grandma Gloria would join Grandpa Cerullo. Look for them both mid-May.

As most people know, Ellen is the older sister to John Travolta. She first make appearances as Gloria back on GH in the mid-90s. Most recently, she returned to the Quartermaine mansion to meet up with daughter, Lois (Rena Sofer) and granddaughter Brook Lynn for Thanksgiving in Port Charles in 2023.  Michael Fairman TV interviewed Rena Sofer and Amanda Setton late last year where they shared what it had been liking working with Ellen, who remains very close to Sofer in real-life.

Amanda shared: “We fell in love immediately. What’s crazy is my maternal grandmother was Grandma Gloria. I had her till I was 30 and we were so close. She was really like a second mom to me. So, when I got this script and I’m reading “Grandma Gloria”, it was so bizarre. And then in meeting Ellen, she looks like my grandma – same haircut, same high cheekbones. It really did feel like I had a few days with my grandma. It was very, very special for me. Ellen is sweet, prepared, professional, talented and funny to boot. So, it was one of the best weeks I’ve had at work. I hope she comes back. My fingers are crossed.”

Now, we can’t imagine Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding day to be smooth sailing, in fact, expect just the opposite, but could it be Grandma Gloria who is ultimately the hero or the calming voice of reason for any pre-wedding jitters? Stay tuned.

So, glad to know that Ellen Travolta will be back for Brook Lynn and Chase’s big day? Comment below.

The Young and the Restless and General Hospital Actress and Writer, Meg Bennett, Passes Away at 75

Meg Bennett, who had played Julia Newman and later became a writer for the top-rated daytime drama, The Young and the Restless has died at the age of 75.  The news comes from her family who shared that she lost her battle to cancer back on April 11th.

Daytime fans remember fondly, Meg’s portrayal of Victor’s (Eric Braeden)first wife. Bennett joined the show in 1980, after her first soap stint for two years in the role of Liza Walton on Search for Tomorrow.

Impressed by her story notes, the late Bill Bell, then head writer of Y&R, had Meg doing double duty acting and writing on the show from 1983-1987. When he decided to write off the character of Julia, he also wanted Meg to stick around as a writer.  Not only did this begin a whole other daytime career for Bennett, but she was not done playing Julia either. Throughout the decades, Julia would still come back to Genoa City for a visit. Most recently, Y&R fans saw Julia in 2018, and again in 2020.

Bennett also appeared on Santa Barbara and was a writer on that show as well from 1991-1993. She played the role of Megan Richardson. It was next that Meg had her longest writing stint coming to ABC’s General Hospital. Meg wrote for GH from 1993-2011.

In 1995, Bennett won her first Daytime Emmy for writing and her personal life changed after falling in love with nine-time Daytime Emmy winner, former GH head writer, Bob Guza Jr. In addition, GH also utilized Bennett for her acting skill when she was cast as the villainess Allegra Montenegro.  Meg and Bog Guza were officially married in 2004 and purchased a home once owned by Boris Karloff and Gregory Peck.
