‘General Hospital’s’ Touching Influence on ‘Will Trent’ Episode: ‘A Funeral Fit for a Quartermaine’

Everyone loves the bickering Quartermaines on General Hospital. The longtime residents of Port Charles have for decades been the epicenter of strife, humor, and oh-so-much drama. As it turns out some of the members of the writing team of the hit primetime series, Will Trent are also fans of the Q’s.

So, on last night’s April 15th episode of Will Trent (8pm ET/7pm CT), the show centered around Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Rafael (Antwayn Hopper), who first met when Will was a foster child because Rafael’s grandmother (Marla Gibbs, ex-Jeffersons, ex-Days of our Lives) took him in giving him the family he was searching for. Therefore, Will and Rafael are like brothers, even though Will is torn helping Rafael now that he is a gang leader.

According to TV Insider, it’s the death of their grandmother that brings Will and Rafael together and with a very soapy connection to General Hospital. Liz Heldens, (showrunner, Will Trent) explained, “We have a few GH fans on the writing staff. I used to watch it with my grandmother pretty religiously. We put that idea into the first episode of the season and then doubled down on the idea in this episode.”

The outlet teased that, “The grave turn of events triggers a reveal from Will and Rafael’s past that would make Port Charles proud.” The official loglines for the episode read, “When Rafael turns to Will after his grandmother’s sudden death, they’re forced to confront their painful pasts while navigating present life-threatening dangers.”

GH fans know that Anna Lee and David Lewis were the original matriarch and patriarch of the Quartermaine family, where eventually, John Ingle took over the role. On GH, Lila Quartermaine passed away back in 2004, while Edward Quartermaine passed on in 2012.

With General Hospital now its 62nd year and Will Trent renewed for its fourth season, it goes to show the reach that the long-running ABC daytime drama series has in pop culture, and how it is has been handed down by generations, and make for very touching moments on last night’s episode of Will Trent.

Those who watched closely saw GH’s 2004 credits with the theme “Faces of the Heart” by Dave Koz playing, along with the characters of Will, Betty (Will’s dog), and former GH star, Tamara Braun as Carly and the late Leslie Charleson as Monica.

So, what do you think of ‘Will Trent’ paying homage to ‘General Hospital’ and the Quartermaine family during the episode? Comment below. But first, check out this scene below.

I thought it was pretty good!

But, the opening also featured a shot of Leslie Charleson. If this was in memory of the late actress, then it was a nice surprise. I can’t think of any prime time show acknowledging a soap actor

This just proved they have the template for this opening still and, if that’s the case, re-license the music and give us this opening back!!!

Agreed!

I loved that for the GH opening credits they showed Monica (LC). i have to believe that they purposefully chose her as a tribute. Then I laughed when they showed Will & Betty as Will Trent’s opening

It made my heart smile!

I thought it was great, I love Will Trent, and Betty just adds to his charm. I also loved the Homage to GH and the Q’s, and the Faces Of The Heart thing, was an added treat. Way to go, Will Trent, woof!

Will Trent is one of the best shows on tv with the most clever writers. The references to General Hospital on the 4/15/25 episode was fantastic. I loved it and take note that Detective Ormwood’s tv daughter is a General Hospital alumni (she played the lovable Violet.) She’s a great little actress!

I love the Quartermaines. Thank you for the two GH photos in the article. It’s so great to see our beloved Anna Lee, David Lewis, John Ingle, Stuart Damon and Leslie Charleson. They gave us such wonderful entertainment for so many years. I love and miss all of them. May they rest in peace.

I loved it. GH IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND I LOVE WILL TRENT

This article is what got me watching Will Trent! I had seen it advertised but never tuned in. I got Hulu recently and after seeing this article decided to give it a try. I started on the very first episode & was immediately hooked! I love everyone on the show. Can’t wait to see this episode although I am still watching the first season. Long the the Will Trent show. He is so fine & Betty is too adorable.

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
