‘General Hospital’ Writes Maxie Jones and Her Family Off The Show
The answer to what General Hospital fans have been speculating about for months has come to a conclusion, for now.
On the Thursday, July 23 episode of the ABC daytime drama series it was revealed in story that Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), along with her man, Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and her three children, Georgie (Lily Fisher), Bailey (Miley and Riley Plonski) and James (Gary James Fuller) are headed to Australia to live after Spinelli received a job offer he couldn’t refuse.
However, the message of the status of Maxie and her clan, came from none other than Cody (Josh Kelly) during a conversation where he explained that they were all packing up to head to the land down under the following night and they were just “itching to get out of Port Charles.” In addition, Maxie has divested her shares of Deception Cosmetics and sold them to Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson).

IS THERE A FUTURE FOR MAXIE TO RETURN?
All of this paves the way for the series to deal with the longer absence of Kirsten Storms who is back in Tennessee and not having her figure into any immediate storyline.
While the family uprooting themselves to Australia certainly doesn’t look like any return in the near future would be likely, the series can always decide down the line and take their time of what to do with Maxie, if Kirsten Storms, should never return to the role or they would decide to recast, if needed.
This does complete Maxie’s story for now. It was back in February of 2026, that Maxie came out of her coma and was reunited with her family and saw her believed-to-be husband, Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) back from the dead, who later proved to be Cassius Faison. Storms comeback lasted about a month and by March she was no longer on the series.
It was back last month in June that Storms took to Instagram to share that “As for what is in my future, where GH is concerned…. Given what’s been going on, I can’t say I will feel comfortable heading back to Los Angeles and returning to work.”
All of this stems from her reported break-ins to her apartment, the hacking of her devices all occurring in Tennessee, coupled by the restraining order served to her by her ex-husband Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny, GH and ex-Stefan/Jake, Days).
So, how do you feel about General Hospital writing out Maxie Jones with a sudden move to Australia, taking Spinelli and the kids all seemingly off the canvas? Do you like the way this leaves a door open for Maxie to visit or return to Port Charles one day?

I’m for Kirsten doing whatever is best for her, but Maxie not being on the show during the Cassius storyline was a huge “drop the ball” moment for the show. It’s not like Maxie was always front and center, but I believe the storyline would have played out differently if the show would have recast the role. Maybe it is time for the show to realize that all of Kirsten’s real life drama is impacting the show negatively. I would love to see Molly Burnett be the new Maxie. I’m sad we will no longer get to see Spinelli and James on a regular basis.
I agree I will miss Spinelli and the kids as well.
But Spinelli has been a vital part with Jason too.

Maxie is a key person on GH… Also, how is that fair for the rest of her on screen family? Just because she has drama going on in her real life, sorry for that, it really does impact the show and of course the other actors… That is my opinion…

Ase Maxie will be missed she has been with GH for years and her Fashion Taste is Superior. I loved her with Nathan they were very good on screen. I dont under why GH killed Nathan off in the first place. Everything doesn’t needs to be change.

The Devil called this one last week, so not at all surprised. In a way it makes sense, rather than take their chances with a Maxie recast. Presumably to leave the door open, should Kirsten ever be ready to return.
That said though, I really feel for Bradford Anderson & especially little Gary James Fuller. I’m guessing that kid and/or his parents did not take the news well, and that’s why you have seen a temp recast filling in for the kid the last couple of episodes. And poor Spinelli… this regime has been doing him dirty for years now. Rarely seen at all, was barely reunited with Maxie before she went to veggieland and then fake “Nathan” showed up. And I think he’s had a total of two scenes with his friend Jason since Jason’s 2024 return. I’m sure they will talk about that on the “Stone Cold & the Jackal” podcast this week.
the young actor who play James was temp recast because Gary james Fuller was hurt in a bike accident and could’n’t work so its not because of the current situation with Kristen Storm.
Gary was actually in a pretty serious bike accident that put him in the hospital for almost a week. This coincided with the taping day for the episodes he missed.
I would hope that Frank called Bradford to let them know he was being written out.
As important as Felicia was to the canvas in the 80s and 90s, I don’t know how they keep Wagner on contract going forward. They haven’t really given her a character focused storyline since she came back post-vaccine. Granted, she has the smallest guarantee out of any contract player.
I had the same thought re: KW. Wasn’t aware of the small guarantee, so maybe that’ll be her saving grace, but for a while, I’ve been waiting for her name to disappear during the Friday closing credits. I hope not as I like having the legacy characters on canvas, but I won’t be surprised if/when it happens.
Gary Fuller was out due to an accident he suffered to his face. The sad part is he’s been due to injury and never got the chance to do a goodbye with his onscreen family.
It seems TPTB made the decision to write off Maxie, Spinelli and family after KS announced several weeks ago that she would not be returning to LA or GH. They knew then she was done and never planned to return. As for Bradford Anderson, he said it was his decision to leave GH years ago. He elected to move to recurring as opposed to a contract role to spend time with his family and work on other projects. He is happy to be a recurring character on GH. I do feel bad that Gary James Fuller did not get to film James’ goodbye scenes, but GJF was injured in an accident and was in the hospital when these scenes were recorded. I hope we will see Spinelli, Georgie and James visit in the future.
The wonderful Gary James Fuller had a significant age-appropriate accident – either biking or skate boarding – and was pretty beat up and has been in the real-life hospital receiving a number of surgeries so it is unfortunate timing that he and Cody did not get those last scenes together. Gary James says he is healing, and hopefully he can make solo flights from Australia to visit his Port Charles families in the future.
This is the best solution. It never made sense Maxie was not in Port Charles during all the dramatic activity that should involve her.
It’s little James, Gary James Fuller, I will miss the most. He is a great actor.

I would prefer that they not recast the role of Maxie at this time. By having her and her family move to Australia due to a job offer Spinelli has received it allows several possibilities for the future. (1) It allows Kirsten Storms time to resolve the personal issues she is dealing with and return to the role. (2) Since Mac was originally from Australia it allows he and Felicia to visit both Maxie and her family, and any previously never mentioned relatives of Mac’s the writers come up with. These relatives can then visit/move to Port Charles. (3) Spinelli and kids can come back for a visit and announce they’re all moving back and Maxie will return as soon as their home in Australia sells. Perhaps an orphaned teen-age Scorpio relative they’ve taken in moves with them? He/she would also be related to Emma as she’s Robert Scorpio’s grandaughter. Or (4) Maxie, Spinelli, and kids can return to Port Charles for a “visit” at anytime and announce it’s not a visit but a move back to Port Charles.
I could care less if Maxie comes back, but James was a added joy to GH.
Don’t recast Kristen give her time to take care of her issues with Barash, since there break-up he has made her life miserable. She has gone through surgery and dealing with such an arrogant man. Prayers with you Kristen.
You have no clue as to what may – or may not – have gone on between Kirsten (not Kristen) and Brandon. And, it’s none of the public’s business.
I’m assuming you could not care less.

This is a gigantic cop out by TPTB. Because you have one actor who is having personal problems and is unable to work, you’re going to drop 4 others. We will be deprived of seeing Spinelli and James both of whom are wonderful additions to the story telling. I love Kristen Storm and wish her nothing but the very best in her life. But, Maxie Jones is a part of the GH history. They should have recast. They should have done so months ago and not leave the audience hanging with the family out of town routine. I expected better from Frank Valentini.
Why would you expect better from Frank Valentini? This is the man who used Kelly Monaco in a promo for Steve Burton’s return, teasing a JaSam reunion (because they are the couple that brings the ratings) only to kill off her character weeks later and then all but orphan her children. Horrible, plot-based writing with a side dish of animosity.
Burton returned in March 2024. Sam died 7 months later on Halloween.
The previous chemistry between Burton and Monaco when he came back wasn’t there.
There was not a mass exodus of viewers that a few had predicted.
If you believe the online scuttlebutt from so-called soap insiders, the move not to recast and write the character off was network dictated.
Frank has been exceptionally flexible dealing with Kirsten’s absences through the years. Something about this one felt different from the start.
The other actors are all recurring. I actually think this is a good solution. It seems KS is done with acting. This allows for a reset of the character and allows them to find the best recast. I bet they’ll be back in PC in less than a year.
I guess I’m okay with writing the family off for now but I will miss James. What I was mostly irked with is how Kristin Storm’s absence negatively impacted the storytelling. I could go on and on but suffice to say, they jumped the shark when it was left to Cody to tell James the heart crushing news about his father.
Hopefully they will recast her and bring the family back, however, this gives them time to find a good replacement.
I feel like theres so much going on with Kristen Storm that for now its best for the show to regroup and concentrate on the actors that are there right now. Yes, recasting might need to be done but for now with everyone they have on the show its probably best to take a break.. Although its gonna suck not to see the young actor who play james he’s a real talent and fun to watch, and theres spinelli too, but for now with all thats going on a break is needed.
It’s nice that they are leaving the door open for Kirsten Storms to return.

First they won’t involve Maxie in a front burner storyline that directly involves her. Then, they decide to just write off Maxie, Spinelli, James and Georgie off. These profound defects in the writing involving storylines and important and established characters have all occurred because of the refusal to recast Maxie. Kristen Storms is great but she is replaceable. They should have recast her before the ill conceived coma storyline. This is not okay.

This was the best solution for the deck they were dealt. Unfortunately, Gary James Fuller gets the same outcome as Jophielle Love (ex- Violet). Both superb child performers who had to leave when the adult playing their custodial parent was no longer on the show.
This happened with the actress who played Emma when Robin and Patrick moved to California. She came back to visit Anna and Robert, and now the character is back (although not the original actress who was great). We don’t get as many child actors on GH who grow up on the show and transition to adults without being SORASed like Robin and Lucky.
An unfortunate side effect of the decision to move the whole family is Liesl now being separated from her grandson, so soon after she thinks she lost her newfound son.

I like that they are giving her a chance to heal mentally and physically, Kristen will forever be Maxi! If they need to eventually recast it gives us time to adjust, I just hate that it messes with the Spinelli character , Bradford will be missed, and the goodbye with Cody was
The Writers should have just replaced Kristen with another Actress and wrote it into the Storyline.

Unpopular opinion here, but I’m glad to be rid of Spinelli. I’ve NEVER liked his character … Bradford Anderson is fine, but I just find the role irritating. Totally in favor of freeing up Kirsten to deal with her issues as well.
Like Lucy, a little Spinelli can go a long way. I like them both of them but they also get on my nerves.

Whether an act of kindness to Kirsten Storms or budget related I think the removal of the entire family was a mistake. First, they should have had a recast Maxie once they dreamed up the whole Nathan/Cassius story. It was ridiculous not to have the character involved…even if initially with a temporary replacement. Jarring as it can be they could have tried out a temp, made it permanent or recast again. Look how many Mollys they went through.
Although only on a recurring basis the Spinelli character having no part in Jason’s return is odd. And, even if they do have him visit won’t it be strange that he comes alone (presumably) leaving everyone else behind and “the job of a lifetime”.
And, lastly, the boy playing James was actually one of the few child actors I can stomach. Usually, they are wooden and appear to be uncomfortable.

Shame for some of the storylines and cast – when Kirsten was unavailable some time ago, there were understudies and stand-ins who took over the role quite admirably. The producers should have re-cast with the proviso that should Kirsten wish to return after some time, the door would remain open or, if she declines to return at all, the role progresses in the show with whoever was cast.
Kirsten must do what is best for her and her family so if she can’t be in GH right now that must be understood, honored and having her treated with compassion
However, she was an integral part of many storylines so a decision needed to be made as the role had to be addressed in some concrete way. In this case I think most were hoping for a Temporary recast until she could return or decide she would not continue in the show.
I think what has people upset is that it seems unfair to take the entire family off the show which would not be necessary if there had been a recast
Spinelli and James are wildly popular and I am concerned if Bradford will be doing the GH Spoilers for the following week anymore. It seems like that would no longer happen and he was entertaining with it
I hope that maybe they will return before too long and that eventually Kirsten might return to reclaim her recast role.
They should have recasted the role a long time ago. I don’t care what anyone else says, but Maxie is needed on the show. Her selling her shares of Deception seems out of character to me!

They should recast. To lose James and Spinelli is a slap in the face. Spinelli is pure joy every time he’s in screen. James is an absolute gem. I’d have rather her stayed in a coma if they aren’t going to recast. At least we had the rest of the family.
I like Maxie, she needs time to straight h things out. GH is her home. Give her time to heal.and bring her back when she’s ready. May God give Maxie strength and courage to go through this difficult time.
This was a horrible decision. I love Kirstin as Maxie but her character and her family are important to the landscape. Contracts are generally 3 years so they could have recast for now and if Kirstin wanted to come back then they could have worked it out. I will never not be angry about this decision.
Sad that one actors challenges effects so many more actors. I was excited to watch the kids grow up. And Spinelli is always fun.
I think they should have recast the rile, temporarily, allowing Kirsten to get the help she needs and room for her to return, ahould she choose too. Recast fhe character! How is it fair to these other actors to lose their jobs because of one actress that can, and should be replaced!
This decision was all wrong. The entire family disappears and James is the only one we see say “Goodbye?” Just ridiculous. I can see Frank being loyal to Kirsten, saying she can always return, but, Maxie has been recast several times before. Why didn’t they just recast her again? Bradford Anderson said he is only interested in coming back on a recurring status, that’s fine, they’ve dealt with that for years with zero issues. Why NOW, when James and Cody just have a good storyline building up, James is gone? It makes no sense. I want to see how the family, meaning Cody, Felicia and Mac, deals with this going forward. Or are Felicia and Mac going to vanish (with no explanation) as well?
I think it’s a colossal mistake! Hired a recast. One of the ladies who subbed for Kirsten would be nice. This just doesn’t make good sense to me. BRING THEM HOME!

William deVry to Appear on ‘Tracker’ Season 4; Shuts Down Rumors of a ‘General Hospital’ Return
William deVry addressed the rumors of his imminent return to General Hospital as Julian Jerome, which have popped up recently as click bait on websites or in video reels.
The soap opera veteran set the record straight when he took to Instagram to share a video of all that he’s been up to lately, and how fans catch him on multiple upcoming shows. Chief among them appearing in Justin Hartley’s (ex-Adam, Y&R and ex-Fox, Passions) drama series Tracker on CBS during its upcoming 4th season.
As deVry closed out his video message, he took a moment to confirm once and for all, “I am not coming back to General Hospital.” The last time viewers saw Julian on the Port Charles canvas, he was being zipped in a body bag after being shot in December of 2020, which ended deVry’s six-year-run on the soap.
Daytime fans also know that before his time on General Hospital, deVry played Michael Cambias on All My Children (2003-2004) and Storm Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful. (2006-2008).

TRACKER SEASON 4 HAS SEVERAL SOAP OPERA ALUMS
Coming up on Tracker, William is set to appear in episode 5 that airs in early November, where he is playing a bad guy. That’s the same episode that marks the return of another soap alum, Jensen Ackles (ex-Eric, Days of our Lives) as Russell Shaw, the brother of Hartley’s Colter Shaw.
Tracker premieres on Sunday, October 4 with its season premiere episode entitled “Safe Harbor,” launching Colter into a port-side case.
Before William is seen on Tracker, you can check him out next week in the movie Spill which drops on September 20 on Apple TV and Amazon Prime. That is followed on October 10, when the GH alum appears in Lifetime’s Movie of the Week, The Monster She Married, alongside Matthew Morrison (ex-Glee).

RATINGS: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Bests ‘General Hospital’ in Key Demos and Gains More Viewers Week-Over-Week
The ratings are out for the week of August 31- September 4, 2026 and it was a solid one for daytime’s youngest daytime drama, Beyond the Gates, now taping its third season.
According to the latest Nielsen report via Soap Opera Network, Beyond the Gates saw a rise in total viewers, tied with third place General Hospital in Households, and overtook GH in the women’s 18-49 and 25-54 ratings share putting them firmly in the number three spot.
Let’s take a look at the drama that had viewers tuning-in to the action in and around Fairmont Crest: Andre (Sean Freeman) kissed Heather (Ashley Jones) before leaving for Seoul with Dani (Karla Mosley).

Meanwhile, Heather figured out that her brother Joey (Jon Lindstrom) killed Doug. Hayley (Marquita Goings) poisoned Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) yet again and left him unconscious. Jacob (Jibre Hordges) and Smitty (Mike Manning) made progress in the Impaler investigation, and the Articulettes had to deal with Leslie’s (Trisha Mann-Grant) interference.
As for the numbers, Beyond the Gates came in with an average of 1,677.000 total viewers and gained +66,000 for the week, with total household share at 1.2 up +1, and the key demos: 18-49 rating share of 0.20 up +0.07 from the previous week and 25-54 rating share at 0.29 also up +0.07.

GENERAL HOSPITAL
Over at General Hospital, the ABC soap opera was the only show to lose viewers for the week of all four broadcast network television daytime dramas. GH came in with an average total viewers tally at 1,911,000, but lost -24,000 and was now only up year-over-year +27,000.
In story for the ratings week: Ava (Maura West) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) buried Brennan (Chris McKenna) on the ground around the Quartermaine estate, and Drew framed Nina (Cynthia Watros) for the crime by planting Brennan’s wallet in her car.
Chase (Josh Swickard) aggressively pursued the investigation of Jordan’s (Tanisha Harper) car crash which led him to confronting Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton). Trina (Tabyana Ali) overheard information suggesting Brook Lynn might be tied to the incident and later got an earful.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
CBS daytime’s The Bold and the Beautiful, which has been on a great run in the ratings of late, came in with total viewers at 2,778,000 adding +59,000, and up year-over-year at this time +312,000. B&B was firmly in the #2 position in households, plus 18-49 and 25-54 demos, behind its sister soap Y&R.
In story for the ratings week: Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) struggled to hide her affair with Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) from Finn (Tanner Novlan), and Carter did the same in trying to keep it under wraps from Daphne (Murielle Hilaire). In addition, Darcy (Kelly Sullivan) arrived in Los Angeles and stood up to Katie (Heather Tom) for her treatment of her daughter, Dylan (Sydney Bullock).

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
The top spot once again belonged to The Young and the Restless. In fact, Y&R gained the most viewers week-over-week adding +127,000 with its total viewer average at 3,189,000 tuning-in. In addition, it was also up year-over-year +327,000. Y&R also was #1 for the ratings week in households and in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos.
In story for the ratings week: Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) thought of a plan for Matt (Roger Howarth) to return to Genoa City. Billy (Jason Thompson) temporarily gave up his fight for Chancellor after Sally (Courtney Hope) had a pregnancy scare, which could have lasting implications as they head to the altar in October.
Meanwhile, Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) secretly arranged another hookup, Nate (Sean Dominic) prepared for surgery with Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox) by his side, and while in rehab, Nick (Joshua Morrow) helped Marie (Jade Harlow) after her frightening confrontation with her abusive husband, Logan (Tommy Walker).

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, official spoilers, and the latest teaser video, indicate that the truth is about to come out on many fronts which could put several Port Charles residents in harm’s way, but who will double-cross whom?
First, Nina has been carted away by the WSB, after she is the prime suspect in the disappearance and possible murder of Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna). Now it appears that her daughter Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) is willing to do anything to find her mother. (probably for fear she will somehow implicate Willow!)
Ava (Maura West) meets with Willow at the Metro Court Gardens and informs her, “If Nina is being framed. I may know by whom.” Would Ava risk the ire of Drew (Cameron Mathison), if she throw’s him under the bus and admits he planted Jack’s wallet in Nina’s car, or is she about to accuse someone else to protect him?
Meanwhile, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Justine’s (Nazneen Contractor) romance is about to become public, or at least fall into the wrong hands! The two are being spied on while making out in a dark location thinking they are alone. Next, Ava’s voice is heard saying, He had to go down!” Is she talking about Sonny who she had teamed with Drew to take down? Cut to Sonny telling Ric (Rick Hearst) “Let ’em try.”
Finally, the action turns to Pentonville, where Curtis (Donnell Turner) is in a dangerous situation, when outside his cell, another inmate suggests to him, “Find a reason not to be in your cell after lunch.” Later, that man and two others, enter the cell as Sidwell (Carlo Rota) just reads a book, as he looks concerned as the men encircle him. Does Curtis come to the rescue of Sidwell? Stay tuned.
