Executive producer, Frank Valentini promised a big and unexpected surprise on Monday’s episode of General Hospital,  in what is quite simply a stunner when you think about the history of the character!

Here is what went down:  At the end of the episode Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan) appeared in the clinic that Anna and Luke went in search for Robin!  But how is this possible when Duke was shot dead in 1990?  Valentini spoke with TV Guide to give some teasers and rationale at just how he and head writer, Ron Carlivati plan to pull of the story!

“Our audience is very excited about the growing relationship between Luke (Tony Geary) and Anna (Finola Hughes) and their story looks like it has really good legs … so what’s the best thing to do? Make a triangle.  We will eventually find out that the Duke Lavery we saw die all those many years ago was an imposter. This is the real Duke.  Ian is a fantastic actor and when he was suddenly available Ron quickly came up with an idea and — boom! — we ran with it!”

Valentini then admits that Ian Buchanan will now not be seen on camera for another five weeks or so, but that the story will play out: “In the interim, Luke and Anna will find themselves in a new place with their romance and they will be very surprised by the intensity of it.  Anna will, of course, be shocked and conflicted, she’ll run the whole gamut of emotions when she finally comes face-to-face with Duke. She’s going to want a lot of answers and Duke is really going to have to prove himself.  Needless to say, Luke will not be happy about Duke’s return. He’s really going to have to fight for his gal. This is a very big story for all three of them.”

So GH fans, what do you think of the reveal?  Are you excited to see Duke Lavery return?  How would you weave and tell the story?  Let us know!

Was hoping Stuart Damon was the big surprise.

Cartini doesnt care about Stuart Damon and the q history. SMH.

you care

I was too! Maybe later this year!?! We can always hope right?

that was right

That would have been SOOOO much better!!! How would they have brought him back, though? I was initially shocked to see Duke back, but this doesn’t make any sense to me-keeping Robin and faking her death-staying hidden and just now coming out of hiding? Idk about this one.

I was shocker about it

ITA, I hope he is back by April for the 50th.

Duke is nice and I never believed that Jonathan Paget was Duke. I think he was a decoy. Ian’s Duke was last seen at a clinic getting ready to change his face, then 4 months Jonathan came to town and announced he was Duke. Julian Jerome (Lucas’s Bio Dad) shot Paget.

I don’t watch it

Was hoping Stuart Damon was the surprise but who knows Robin is not really dead and neither is Jerry. I know we saw Alan die but anything is possible.

that is so right about it

I whated Alan Quartermaine back

I whated Alan back

It has some great possibilities.Ian is definitely a daytime fav. & a really fine actor.can’t wait for Kimberley’s return, too.

me too I ‘am so happy for her return and Ian is my favorite actor too

I was a huge Duke and Anna fan, so this is a great surprise!! I never thought that we’d get to see him back on GH. The new team running GH is great. Next thing you know they’ll be bringing back the nurse’s ball!

I will see that epiode of that I ‘am a huge fan

I don’t know Duke Lavery, so I was very disappointed. Was so hoping that Anna and Robin would find each other. This seemed rather pointless. Ron needs to start moving existing stories forward before throwing in any more tangents.

Duke had robin that long anna will find her soon

I’ve been saying for years that they should bring back IB’s Duke and just have Duke #2 really turn out to be Jonathon Paget! This is wonderful news BUT only if they do DNA justice…their fans deserve that. They wrote Robert horribly last time and I hope they make up for that with Duke! Mike, I’m hoping that Duke is helping hide other dead GHer’s such as Alan!

he had alan quartermaine that was not fare

I had high hopes (and still do ) that Emily returns Natalia Livingston or Amber Tamblyn would have been a great shock, but necessary as EMily is the core of the Q’s now, plus it would bring Nik back.

yes I whated that bring nik and emily back they are so cute together

Can we please have some kind of moratorium on characters coming back from the dead? I have been a fan of what is going on currently on GH, but tired clichés like baby swaps and the constant return of the living dead only contribute to the death of the medium.

Thank you Michael!!

I am really sick of those types of stories too. Dead is dead and babies do NOT get swapped in real life. I know, this is not real life, but in order to truly invest in a show, it has to be somewhat relatable.

The same thing goes for these big disaster stories. I don’t mind them until they go so over-the-top that they are no longer any fun. Plus they need to serve some kind of purpose. A disaster for disaster sake gets to be pretty boring, and I usually end up FFing through most of it.

I like the stories on GH.. And have no complaints………………

that is so right

I’m happy with the present plot but you are right, they do bring back the dead a lot but the saying is “no one is ever dead in a soap.” And for fans who love some of the original characters who get written off it works for them! And correction–have you watched the news lately–yes babies do really get stolen and switched also in real life—truth is stranger than fiction they say–lol.

I’ll have a seat at this table, couldn’t agree more – aren’t there any original ideas left in the soap world?

No their are not that’s why they are rolling down the hill and out the door. Good luck in trying to create the majic again with Anna & Duke it is sometimes hard to do and I can not stand the romance between Luke & Anna. Genie Francis was the only actress ever paired with Geary who made him look the least like a romantic lead . Sorry!

yes bring back laura spencer and ethan spencer

I am with Michael and the “living dead” stories that are so prolific. I cannot relate to this. That said, I recall well the Duke Lavery character and the excitement of that time on GH.

The joys of daytime drama to me are the core families and the relatability of the stories to my world. To date, no one dear to me has come back to life, not once, not a dozen times. And I have yet to meet one lookalike much less many.

Thats why they are soap opera’s…Made up stories….

I am so excited that Duke is back. He and Anna were a smoking hot couple with tons of chemistry. I am so glad Days of Our Lives let him go so he could take on the role of Duke Lavery again! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Its great to see Ian Back on GH, but lets get real here this is going to be another super convoluted story like the tale of the two Todds on OLTL.
The Duke character has been killed twice and had plastic surgery. And besides those facts, why would he kidnap his beloved step daughter Robin, fake her death and put Anna through pure hell? Cartini has a tall order to fill and after watching the whole Todd debacle on OLTL Im already cringing at how this will play out.
And they are so fooling themselves thinking we are all onboard with the Anna Luke pairing-uh no thank you. The actors have no chemistry. The characters have a venerable history and it looks great on paper but again fail. And please spare us a Duke, Anna Luke triangle. Thats dumb Anna loved Duke madly and she has no romantic history with Luke.
Tristan Rogers should be rehired and the Duke, Anna, Robert triangle could reignite. I’m all for getting Luke away from Tracy but this doesnt cut it. Sadly the Robin Kidnapp/Toxic water plot is the most interesting thing going in daytime now. But that’s not saying much all the soaps are off track at the moment. B+B with Gidget Generation X with Hope and Liam, Days is all over the map and YR has hit one of the roughest patches in 23 yrs. All I can say is the GH plot is playing like a Steven Segal movie-you can enjoy the action but you have to put your intellect on the shelf and wear 3D glasses so all the holes in the plot dont make you go blind, lol. SMH.
Poor Gloria Monty she’s turning over in her grave. Lol.

Speak for yourself as far as not being on board with the Luke/Anna pairing. I think they’re great together.

As far as putting your intellect on the shelf, and Gloria Monty rolling over in her grave at the storylines of today, who was the one that produced storylines about weather machines that could freeze the world, and Casey The Alien, among many others, lol.

Off the wall storylines have been a part of soap operas since the beginning, and why they became so popular. People wanted an escape from their every day life, a fantasy if you will.

And all I know is I’m enjoying GH more these days than I have in years. So bravo to Frank and Ron!

FYI..Gloria Monty did not produce Casey the Alien story.

Ron and Frank are the Best team on daytime in years.

But soaps in the 80’s were focused on re-creating Classic Film for a daytime audience. When I see the ‘The Women”, It happened One night” and Flash Gordon, That is Daytime at its best.

Hi name is not Cartini. This is the best show on television right now. Tristan Rogers is on Y&R and so is Genie Francis. His name is Ron Carlivati and he is the best there is.

Nancy Cartini is the mash up name of Carlivati and Valentini (the new producer). I think they are an awesome team & make GH must see TV again.

I alway’s liked Anna with Robert Scorpio ….Not sure about Luke…All those years ago during the wsb days..Anna & Luke were just friends……I think it should remain that way…

I agree Susan. The characters have no real history because Tony Geary was off the show during the Anna, Duke Robert days. And I just dont see any real chemistry with the actors. They work great together as crime solving partners, but not in a romance. I knew I couldnt be alone in that opinion. Thank you for your comments Susan. Peace to you.

I thought it would be Claudia since the actress left DAYS when Ian Buchanon did.

I wouldnt be against a Claudia return if Cartini would flesh out her character better than Guza did and make her a real threat to Sonny. Id love to see Claudia and Todd team up to steal Sonny’s empire.

Was very thrilled! Had heard about the rumor but didn’t want to believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. I was 18 when Duke ‘”died” and it brought me back to my teenage years. I was very emotional. Please let it be a long term contract!!!

I’ve been hoping that Ian would come back once I heard he left Days especially after Finola became a permanent resident in PC, again! I’m beyond thrilled that the smooth Mr Lavery is back! Single most exciting moment I’ve seen on GH in a long time! His arrival just ignites the show!

I want Alan and Robert to return, but I’m excited to see where this story goes. GH has been so great.

I loved Duke/Anna back in the 80’s they were one of my Jolie of the 80’s LOL I was hoping the big surprise was a one episode of MA Natalie coming to shake things up but I do like Duke and havent seen him on my screen in years didn’t watch the other soaps he was on! hum guess I will still have to FF Sam/John sceens LOL!

I also was hoping for MA to be the surprise! Watched GH for the big event but was let down. I love Duke & Anna tho’, but won’t watch as long as they have John McBain running around out of character. He’d never act or say things to Sam that FV/RC are having him do. Shame on them for destroying Jolie!

Hear hear! John McBain is UNWATCHABLE for me right now, and it’s because they ruined him and his happy family for Calivia part 2. I too was hoping for Natalie or Robert, Robin, Frisco, Sean, there are a lot of other characters I’d rather have besides Duke. But I don’t mind Duke and I’d rather see Dukanna than AnnaL, those two together are a big load of crap, just like McScram.

Still like Robert/Anna better together than with Duke.

its all sounding good and everything but what about Robert? I think storyline wise he has to play into the equation,it would be a big mistake if the show tryied to rewrite history and not have Robert somehow in the middle of all this. For the Record, this one was a real shocker, good one Frank and Ron, but don’t make Duke and Luke now all of a sudden the two greatest love of Ana’s life, don’t forget Robert.

Exactly! First Robert, then Duke, then David Hayward, I don’t think she loved anybody else, the idea of her being in love with Luke now is an unfunny JOKE!

Robert is the best…………

i was hoping it was Sarah Brown as claudia

Me too! That would have opened up more stories for Johnny besides fawning over Carly.

Me too.

never mind claudia as villain; how about claudia as johnny’s mom????

WOW, didn’t see that comin’. I was sure it was going to be Robin on the bed. After that I couldn’t think of anyone else that could be returning that made any sense. Love that Ian is back and can’t wait for the real story to begin. Thanks Ron and Frank.

Hey Ron and Frank, now that you brought back Duke, how bout Robert, and Claudia, love to see Sarah Brown back at GH, she was one of their best female villian as Claudia, so how bout it Frank and Ron? pleaseeee

While I thought our big surprise was going to be Vincent Irizarry aka Dr. David Hayward from #AMC, I was very happy to see the “real” #DukeLavery appear on my screen and I look forward to the triangle between Anna, Luke and Duke. There are so many exciting things happening in Port Charles right now, I would swear I was back in the 80’s again!!!

Dr. David would have been a great surprise! I thought he might be hiding Robin because he brings back the dead!

Me too. I think that would be a really good storyline. I was hoping he’d bring back Robin, Alan, Georgie and others. I don’t mind a good back from the dead return, and Dr. Hayward has a history of doing that and a connection/history to Anna Devane. It would make sense to me.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Ian Buchanan makes any show shine a little bit brighter!

Still why does he have Robin??? What is his motive for all this???Is it revenge?? I am confused by all this….Why is he causing Anna pain ??? Making her think her daughter is dead when she isn’t !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Patick pain!!!!!! What’s up with this?????????????? What do you think????????

I have no idea– that’s the fun of watching! I don’t like other shows where everything is written so you can see the end coming weeks ahead and all of the “surprises” have been done before. GH has an excellent head writer and I’m sure this will be a great story!

Never was a big Duke fan, sorry. Wow, Stuart Damon would have been a great surprise, Mike. Luke was already in a triangle adding Duke is not my idea of a good story. And if he has Robin- that will not endear him to Anna. I missed who has her, but I think they said Duke. Not a fan of Dukes, and don’t like Jerry- too much evil is too much.

I haven’t watched GH in years so I wondered how they bumped off Alan! It would be great to see him again!

Some tiime ago evil, disgusting Jerry Jax held most of the characters hostage at the Metrocourt. He shot Robin and did a lot of otehr horrible things. Alan had a heart condition and had a heart attack. He denied Alan medical care, would not let an ambulance pick him up, etc. As I remember, he did eventually get to the hospital, but it was too late and he died there. I stopped watching GH for a time due to the firing of Stuart Damon. I believe his last date on air was his 70th birthday (or maybe his last day of work- I’m not sure.) Then there was so much fan uproar that they made him a ghost who haunted Tracy for a while.

I may have not made it clear enough that Alan was at the Metrocourt and due to the stress and his heart condition had the heart attack.

Thanks for the info! Now I finally know what happened. I really miss Alan. How they got rid of him after all those years was horrible!

Well technically Duke didn’t die on camera. Someone saying that he was did. (But that doesn’t explain how he knew secret things that only he and Anna knew. She asked the “impostor” how one of them burned their cheek one time, and he answered it, convincing her and Robert that he was Duke. I remember this because I watched it and I was so mad when they killed him off.)
They’ll probably say that the guy had an earpiece and the real Duke was feeding him information. It was all part of his big plan to stay dead.

When Anna finds out that Duke was in charge of kidnapping Robin and let everybody think that Robin is dead Anna will really be pissed off at Duke.I hope Anna goes to war against Duke for kidnapping Robin and taking her from her family.

I agree……..

I have heard of Duke Lavery, but was not watching GH during those years so I am excited to see Ian Buchanan. Didn’t he play an evil doctor on AMC a few years ago?

I STILL believe that he is not the one calling the shots for Jerry. I think someone is pulling Duke Lavery’s strings. I think they have bigger plans for this story.

I also wonder if having Duke Lavery back opens the door to bring AMC’s Ryan Lavery. I am thinking Cameron Mathison is busy these days and would not need the work, though.

OMG! Don’t even say that!!!!!!! It was never addressed that Deke and Ryan were in any way related….. And please let them leave it like that!

You know I meant DUKE not Deke…..

LOL, BarbJ. I read that Ryan and Duke were maternal cousins removed or something silly. I am definitely not advocating bringing the AMC characters on … at least not Ryan. 🙂

I think GH is firing on all cylinders right now and I love who is here NOW. I would welcome any more GH vets that they want to bring back. I think they have enough OLTL characters and they did a good job with them.

Yes, Ryan and Duke are related. Anna told Ryan on AMC that Ryan’s Mother was Duke’s Cousin and she had taken the Lavery name.

I think I chose to remove everything Ryan Lavery from mrpy memory banks…

Me too. I went on Ryan overload and my memory shut down. Thank God there is no battery backup.

Yeah. He really wasn’t that great of a character. He and Gillian and even Kendall made a good couple, but with Greenlee … no thank you. Nothing against Cameron, but Ryan Lavery definitely was not some great legacy character.

Well should they ever decide to bring on AMC characters, and they probably should just let sleeping dogs lie, hopefully they never bring Ryan.

ian is an awesome actor & i am thrilled he is back on gh! dool underused his talents………..

Started watching 4’3’1963 and Monday’s show was one of the best shows I can recall on GH. Not just for the Duke factor. It really reminded me of the Gloria Monty days. The look on Jason and John’s face when Jax walked in the room at the very end. And Luke playing the doctor. The way the Patrick walked into Elizabeth’s telling Ewan to let Elizabeth go. Just a packed day of cliff hangers. How I miss olto’ but how I love having TPTB on GH. Have not been this anxioius for the next show in years.

I was very disappointed that the surprise was Duke Lavery. I don’t really like him.

I like him, but there are at least a dozen characters I’d RATHER have ..

Let me tell you…I was shocked…even though in the back of my head I knew it could be Duke for some reason. I was excited…pounding the floor & whooping it up! Don’t tell me the last time a soap surprise did that to me. I have to hand it to Frank and Ron for keeping the surprise and respecting GH history. Granted, Duke’s return opens up a HUGE can of questions but isn’t that the point? Can you imagine Duke reuniting with Anna? Robin…maybe Duke ACTUALLY saved her from Jerry? Or, Duke finally meeting fellow mobster Sonny?

I loved the Tracy dialogue about Alan as I stil hope Stuart Damon comes back. I don’t care about the fans whining about too many resurrections. Any character JFP killed off during her tenure (except for Faith really) was horrible and brutal. Remember Zander getting laser targeted by the cops and then getting shot multiple times? Jake? Alan’s heart attack…more like the heart of GH being stopped since then. I also love the talk of Lucy Coe once again. My fingers are crossed and who knows now!

While your entitled to your opinions, I don’t know how you are yawning over this. I remember Duke first being introduced and meeting Anna. THOSE were the glory days of GH. A lot has happened on daytime during that time and with budgets and shows going kaput, this is a well-intentioned shot in the bicep!

Michael, did you know about this or were you as surprised as we were?

I really hope Duke is trying to protect Robin from the danger in PC.

So happy Ian Buchanan is back as Duke Lavery! Days blew it with his character and Ian’s great acting but he’s back “home” now!! Also excited because that means Anthony Geary & Finola will get more airtime — so, I’m happy all around … NOW, if they could just swipe Genie from Y&R I’d really be in heaven!!

The girl that was locked up, that Anna found, looked a lot like Danni Manning to me

That would be an interesting twist! I liked Dani and she is a good actress.

This is cool, but I’m really pleased that Tracy is still seriously in the mix. I loved her when she kept Edward’s meds and I loved her with the new gangster last night. Woof.

I wasn’t watching when Duke was on the show. All I know about the ACTOR is that he was horrible on DOOL and they fired him. Needless to say, I wasn’t thrilled to see his face again, especially on GH. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and I’m glad older actors are getting work, but I sure hope he does alot better on GH than he did on DOOL.

Great surprise!! Now if they can just grab Genie Francis and Stephen Nichols back from the Y&R and bring Nicholas back!

I have to say, I kept waiting for ‘THE HUGE SURPRISE/GAME CHANGER’ yesterday…

ummm, was anyone else a bit disappointed?

I loved Ian as Duke Lavery – one GH’s first “friendly” mobsters. After GH, I loved to catch him on Gary Shandling show and of course, on Twin Peaks, and think the only time I saw him truly be a bad guy was on Stargate SG1 as the leader of the human replicators.

but it makes no sense to me that he’s back… doing bad things to the people he loved. Usually you come back and do bad things to people who were bad to you!

I can’t imagine he’d ever hurt Robin like that.

I thought maybe the big reveal was going to be that Ewen had moved Robin out of Ferncliff, but hidden away in PC where only he knew where….

or Alan Quartermaine, especially after Tracy kept talking about him.

on second thougtht – are we sure this is Duke? I read that Ian joined the cast of Port Charles in 2002, where he portrayed the sinister Joshua Temple.

Well I like the actor, liked Duke, so guess I’ll have to wait to see if I like him again — after his 23 year absence!

To Nancy, MK and Dan, not everyone is bowing at the alter of Cartini.
And get with the times…Cartini is an acronym of both Frank Valentini and Ron Carlavati’s names mashed together. SMH.
And I am well aware that Gloria Monty didnt produce Casey the Alien. I started watching GH in 1969 long before anyone working presently on the show. And I and many other fans think they are the worse regime to hit GH in yrs.
And dont dare compare them to Gloria Monty. She was a visionary and they are tabloid hacks. And Luke and Anna look like John Houseman and Demi Lovato together, get real, lol.
Also Nancy I have followed Genie Francis’ career since before she joined GH. Her first TV role was as bratty teen competing with Christie McNichol for a boy on the classic 70s primetime drama Family starring Sada Thompson.
And Ive followed Tristan since his first day on GH I know where they are employed. But you may not know that Jill Farren Phelps has been named the new exec producer at YR. So Genie’s days may be numbered there. Its well known in the industry that Jill doesnt like Genie much, lol. Genie is always diplomatic when she discusses her. But under the Guza Phelps regime, Genie was treated horribly.
But nevertheless I dont want her back on GH because Cartini would find a way to ruin her character and history like theyve done with the rest of the show. They probably wouldnt even do a Luke and Laura reunion. They’re hacks and refuse to kiss their collective butt cheeks and bow at their alter.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and to each his own, as they say. But everyone I know that watches GH has been loving it lately, and that includes people that like you have been watching since the 60s.

As far as the worst regime to hit GH in years, did you miss the Phelps/Guza regime, and the way they ruined the show for the past 10 years? You mentioned the way JFP got rid of Genie Francis, which still makes me fume, cause she’s always been one of my favorites. What about how they decimated The Quartermaine family, including firing beloved fan favorite Stuart Damon? Or how they turned the show into the daytime version of The Sopranos? That’s just scratching the surface on what they did to ruin the show during their tenure.

So to call “Cartini” the worst regime on GH In years, sorry, I don’t get that at all.

So cool Duke is back! I honestly thought it was going to be Faison that kidnapped Robin though!

We can still hope Faison is involved somehow, can’t we??? Duke wouldn’t do anything to hurt Anna, but maybe he took Robin to protect her somehow from Faison?

Are we sure he’s playing Duke Lavery…. and not Joshua Temple?? Temple would probably have been mixed up with the characters that Kelly Monaco and Michael Easton played on Port Charles

and when he comes to Port Charles… is Sam going to keep bumping into him and say “you look so familiar…. we know each other don’t we??” te he he

Keep it coming guy’s love the seasoned actor’s and actress’s you are bringing back these angry people on this blog probably never were G.H. fan’s anyway fantastic storyline’s love the show!!!!!! please keep it coming love you guy’s

Is he Sam father or not….

Did he have a relationship with Alexis or not…

oh……I’M GONNA MISS STEVE BURTON……

I was kinda hoping Grant Putnam was returning. Remember him? He Kidnapped Anna back in 1988 when he attempted to kidnap Robin but Anna interrupting his plans when she came home unannounced, Grant and Anna fought and Grant kidnapped her as punishment towards Robert. That would have been a BIG suprise and made more sense. Anyone else agree?

Luke/Anna/Duke….Sounds Boring. Get Tristan Rogers back and lets have it the way its meant to be a Robert/Anna/Duke triangle.

I to have been a long time GH fan. I an impressed with the writers trying to up GH to another level, so we don’t lose our last ABC soap. Duke showing up was awesome. I like when things can be held in secret so we can get that OMG factor. With all the web sights and magazines, we seem to know all the secrets as soon as they leave the writers head. I am of the people who DO NOT like Anna and Luke together. I think its creepy and wrong. No chemistry. Felicia needs to go. Mac working at the floating rib? Really? No! The new Dr pursuing Patrick, is she going to be another Lisa Niles or is that going to be Sabrina doing the stalking. Ridiculous! Always hated Kristina, but the new one is even worse. Do like the Connie/Kate story. I think the tainted water story was incredibly dumb. People were going to die, but yet it was really no big deal. The time spent on that story is time in my life i will never get back. Would love Todd and Carly together. I watched OLTL and others that did, know that Victor (Todd’s Bro.) is really alive. As usual, he’s being held hostage. Now, as for John Mcbain. Really? I get the nod to Port Charles and the relationship with Sam’s character from there, but get over it. John is really being an ass and him and Sam need a slap. Natalie would get her butt on a plane to P.C. and kick Sam’s butt. John would never kiss Sam and Sam would never kiss a guy other than Jason. Get with the program guys. Now Steve Burton is leaving, this is terrible. Get Sam.s baby back to her and let’s find out Jason is the baby daddy. Love. Love. Love Heather. Glad crazy is back. I think Franco is alive and she’s working with him. Shame on Liz. Lying to Jason will get you nowhere. Give her a good guy and let her move on. Killing Jake and Cole and Hope. No, really evil. I think Cole and Hope are still alive. I also think Duke is not running the show. Faison anyone? I think Duke is trying to protect Robin. Olivia with premonitions? sigh. I don’t know about this. Keep up the work, but try a bit harder to keep it GH. It’s not Fantasy Island. But you guys do get an A for effort. Keep it up.

this is the worst story line . I watched GH since the beinging and after abour 25 years quit.

I started watching when Brenda came back till present . However this suppose killing of robin and duke knows and proposed to love Anna
is totally an insult to your fans, I know now it is time to stop watching again ..

What is with all the Llanview characters in Port Charles?

b

I was sick so I missed a couple of important episodes. How on earth did Anna not find Robin in the clinic when she rescued Duke?? confused.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
