General Hospital's new opening sequence revealed!

Today in celebration of the series 12,000 episode General Hospital will reveal its brand new opening sequence. It had been since August 2004 that a revised show open has been produced. For years, fans complained that the old sequence showed many “dead” characters and was so outdated. GH’s YouTube Channel gave viewers a sneak peek before today’s airshow, and here it is below. So what do you think of this new opening?  Is it a good revision or a bad one?  Not working for you, or do you love it?  Let us know!

I’m all for any daytime drama’s opening credits that include the name of the performer who plays the role. OK OLTL & AMC, its time to follow GH’s (& Y&R’s) example and update your opening credits also.

I love it! Mark, BB also showcases the actors’ names too. AMC and OLTL need to follow suit. DAYS will probably never go that far, that hourglass is the show’s star, lol.

I’m really disappointed with the new opening and would have gladly accepted 2 more years of the old one for a better one. Forget the fact that the order continues to show what GH really cares about since that has been a given since at least the last opening. -The editing is weird. -Half the cast…I’ll just say their best looks were NOT captured, which is a shame because it’s a good looking cast. -There is no continuity…some of the cast has REALLY close up face shots while the rest, for the most part, lucked out with more of a… Read more »

I agree Nelson Aspen a serous cheesy disappointment. Can’t believe I waited this long for that lame attempt. Whoopee they added character/actor names and updated pics. Some of the backgrounds make zero sense example Michael and Kristina and Spinelli.

Sometimes I forget how seriously creatively bankrupt GH has become. Nice job Jill Farren Phelps and Brian Frons you reminded me.

I’m not sure how I feel about the new opening. I think it really moves too fast because if you didn’t know the actors you have to really read fast to catch their names and the role they play. I do like the scenic views in the backround such as it is. But, they are trying to put too much in a short span of time. I did not see some of the actors that are prominent on the show and wonder how they determine who gets to be in the opening. What about Scott Reeves?……..

To piggy-backon what Christina said, did anyone notice how loooong the shots of Sonny, Jason, Carly and Sam where, while I could hardly get a look at Kristina and Michael. Oh, and did I miss Morgan? And Yes, where is Scott Reeves?

Doe, if you want to see an opening that goes by too fast, watch BB tomorrow. They just recently added a bunch of their newer contract players to the opening and it goes by like blinking an eye. It’s almost funny… compared to that one, this is a sedate, leisurely pace.

GH EP Frank Valentini On Taping the Sonya Eddy Tribute Episode: “It Was an Extraordinary Script, and It Was a Labor of Love That Day”

This week on General Hospital, the ABC daytime dramas series kicks off its 60th anniversary set of episodes, with what is sure to be the most emotional – the tribute episode for the late Sonya Eddy in honor of her beloved GH character, Epiphany Johnson.

GH’s executive producer spoke with Soap Opera Digest (in their latest issue on newsstands now), about how the show decided to handle the delicate subject of a real-life cast member’s passing and connect it to the story on the canvas of the soap opera.

In conjunction with GH co-head writers, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, the trio decided that if they weren’t ever going to be able to see Sonya as Epiphany again, that there was no way they were going to ever recast the role.  Valentini shared: “We decided it was important to honor not only Sonya, but Epiphany and we wanted to dedicate a full entire episode all about that.”

The EP went on to give praise to his writers, and the cast for their performances when taping the episode: “I think everyone was touched by what the writer’s wrote. It was an extraordinary script and it was a labor of love that day in honor of Sonya, who was so incredibly loved by everybody in the cast and  crew.

The way the death of Epiphany is structured on the airshows is key also to the upcoming Nurses’ Ball episodes set to air the following week. Frank expressed: “Epiphany is a very pivotal person in the Nurses’ Ball, so it’s almost like a part two (of her tribute).

The Sonya Eddy tribute episode airs Wednesday March 29th.

Are you looking forward to seeing how GH honors Sonya and the beloved Epiphany of GH? Comment below.
