Missing Genie Francis on your daytime screens? Well, while she won’t be returning to General Hospital or The Young and the Restless for that matter prior to Christmas (that we know of!), the Daytime Emmy winning soap icon will be appearing on the Hallmark Channel hit morning series, Home & Family (10AMET/9AMPT) tomorrow on Tuesday, December 16th.
However, this time Genie won’t be going solo, she will be bringing along her husband actor/director/producer Jonathan Frakes in this holiday flavored episode with hosts Mark Steines and Cristina Ferrare.
Jonathan tweeted today: “I am appearing w my beautiful wife @GenieFrancis on @HomeandFamilyTV tomorrow AM. Tune in!!!”
So, is it time for Genie as Laura to come home to GH? Or, is it time for Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) mom Genevieve to stop in to Genoa City? Or, are things better left alone? Will you be checking out Genie and Jonathan on Home & Family? Comment below!

She won’t be back to Y&R as long as JFP is running the show for whatever reason she has an ax to grind with Genie and I now believe she won’t be back to GH because of Tony Geary no slam to the man but he does not want that chapter ever visited again. I do miss her tremendously she was a lovely person and God bless her she never had to chew the scenery to get her point across. Miss you Genie! 🙂
Oh Kay. Okay, I agree with you. Yes, I too adore Tony Geary but he sometimes is too much of a diva.
I know he was the powerhouse of talent which generated the Luke and Laura phenomenon of the 80’s. But she was that flame which ignited that pyromania.
Like you, Kay, I feel her talent was subtle and yes, she didn’t have to hit you over the head to convey an emotion like most of the GH actresses seem to do today.
Luke and Laura was all about young love and their journey as kids. They are not young anymore. Luke is still interesting, Laura is not.. That simple.

Genie has the capability to play an interesting and complex character.

Genie showed that she can play a much more complex character than Laura when she played Genevieve on YR. Genie is an outstanding actress and just as talented and interesting ( if not more) than Tony Geary.
The bottom line is that fans want to chain her down to the role of Laura. Laura is simply a wife and mother who loves Luke outside of all the grand 80s adventures. And that simply is boring. Its not Genie’s fault. It would be great for Genie to move on with her career into a new chapter, But rabid fans want to keep reliving the Luke and Laura past and even the most gifted writer will run out of fresh ideas for that.
And lets get real here. TG is 67 years old! Genie is only in her early 50s. She deserves a young fresh leading man and a new strong willed, powerful character to play. She wont get that being tied to a senior citizen! The best thing for Genie is to put GH and Geary behind her and move on.
Id like to see her find prime time success or success on the stage in plays. She is a marvelous actress and a sweet human being.
Have been a loyal GH fan for 34 years but it’s just been boring and especially tired of the convoluted story lines surrounding Anthony Geary in order to accommodate his long absences. Have shifted interest to Y & R so bring Genie back to Y & R – she was fab during her stint on Y & R. GH could do a story line with Genie w/o any involvement with Geary – she does have children and other family still on the show after all – she doesn’t need Geary to be a whole woman! Too bad GH lost JFP but Y & R’s gain! Steve Burton is great on Y & R. Really miss Ingo Rademacher – bring him back to GH!!
Karen its great to find a long time GH fan who appreciated Genie’s work on YR! I watched GH starting in 1969 when I was only 5 years old. I remember Genie’s first day as the aged Laura.
I loved her because she was paired with my beloved Denise Alexander( Lesley) . I grew up watching her as Laura. But she blew my socks off as Genevieve. I really hate the fact that JFP and the network didnt appreciate Genie’s work. That character was everything Laura was not!
She was unpredictable, unbalanced, dangerous, powerful and unforgettable! Genie’s emotional range playing that character was incredible.
I agree that Genie could have stories without Geary. But I want to see her do more than play matronly mom and grandma. She deserves more than that and Laura has a rich history from which to make new story. But Cartini ( Ron Carlavati & Frank Valentini) obviously dont appreciate her or know what to do with her!
Valentini gave her a 3 month contract when she returned last time. She said in an interview he was testing to see if her return spiked ratings! Is this anyway to treat a 30 yr daytime legend? I think not.
Its really sad how Geary, ABC, Disney and the GH execs have treated Genie over the years.
Under JFP she was lambasted for her post pregnancy weight gain and denied vacation to celebrate her anniversary! And of course TG get at least 2 ten week vacations per year! It just makes me mad. That’s why I dont care if she ever returns to GH ( I no longer watch it BTW). Theyve treated her so badly. And I long for her to start a new chapter in her career. Im at least happy that she has a stable marriage and family life. After all she went through with early stardom and that substance abuse problem at 18 its great to see that she has over come and is now happy.
“Laura” has been ruined on GH. Every time they promise some great story line for her and then it falls flat.
I would rather see her come back to Y&R, but the cast is bursting at the seams.
Genie should definitely return to GH!! She, better than anyone would know who the real Luke is! There is no way Fluke could put a fast one over Laura! Not the way Luke looks into Laura’s eyes – no way! Come back Genie!
HE wants nothing to do with that kind of a reunion and since he has been loyal to Gh for decades, what he wants he will get…terrific actor but to be honest, I find it selfish that he will not allow us to have the happy ending we all want. He has made that quite clear and GH listens.
that’s too bad and yes, selfish – maybe when he finally says goodbye to GH, he will go off with Laura.. I just don’t believe the Tracy/Luke pairing at all. She’s too old for him.
Life doesnt always end happy and Anthony also said he wants Luke to die and that would bring Genie back to reflect, mourn and move on. Thats life.
I would just as soon see Laura come back with a charming and handsome Parisian doctor or her arms than to go after Luke again. There is nothing appealing about the man, nothing appealing about him filching off Tracy for her pleasure of carping at him all the time. (Talk about doing the same thing over and over again when the ship has long sailed…)
It’s ironic that most of Geary’s truly outstanding scenes were with Genie–even after the big return. I remember when she visited him in his apartment and they had decied to divorce. They were both great! Most ofGeary’s scenes since then have been ego drama. I’ll never forget his “dying” and singing MY Way–Wow, talk about revealing scene! ABC needs to cut the cord!
I love Genie, I love Laura! Hey, I’m OK with her and Luke not being a couple, they still have so many over-arching interests and motivations that it’s not — or shouldn’t be — an issue! Been watching GH since Cassadine Island back in what, 1980-81? I was like 10 or 11 years old when I started. I HATE what they have done to Laura’s story and character, and Guza / JFP completely screwed her (and Genie too) — Geary hasn’t exactly helped, either. I want her back, SO much story to tell — Cartini are the right ones to tell it, and with the Cassadine resurgence — THIS IS THE TIME!!! 😉

Thank you Randy! I’ve watched Genie since her first acting gig on the classic 70s drama Family and then when she came to Gh as Laura. But you are so right! GH, ABC, Disney and Geary have never given her the respect she deserves.
Even at 14 years old she put GH on the map as Laura with the David Hamilton murder story long before Geary. Gloria Monty was determined to make her a star and she did.
She has devoted decades of her life to
GH and daytime and yet she has only won one lousy Emmy for supporting actress after all the incredible performances she has given on GH alone, never mind Days, AMC, YR and a host of prime time shows like Bare Essence, and specials like North and South.
My wish would be for her to find some prime time success or success in theater.
Genie needs to return to GH – as the ONLY one that can ‘see’ thru the impostors…it would make for a good story line and confirms their love connection…she needs to come back as it is now getting silly with all the fake Luke’s…

He will “Die” and if the soap ever gets cancelled and is allowed to wrap up the show properly you will see him alive on a beach with Laura. Tony wouldnt like it but you have to throw the GH community a bone!
I think its time for Tony to hang it up. He’s still a great actor but he’s 67 years old and the character has lost his shine IMO. I think its time to close that chapter for good. Maybe then Genie can move on to new things and be rid of the Luke and Laura chain for good.

I loved Genie as Genevieve on Y&R. She and Tristan Rogers absolutely smoked their love/hate scenes. She was written out WAY too soon. And, seriously, Genie’s range and subtlety is a beautiful acting gift to the viewers. Please bring her back to Y&R.
BTW, I am sure she is great as Laura on GH but I don’t watch GH so selfishly want her back on Y&R !
She was great on both shows. And Jill Farren Phelps ensured that she was seen on neither show. Can we say “vindictive?”

And Jill didn’t just write Genevieve off Y&R. She made sure the character was humiliated and admonished by just about every character on the show including her inferiors like Lily of the Valley.
I think even Summer had a go at her. Off subject–Summer seems to be allowed to tell everyone off and I think she’s getting too old for these self indulgent tantrums.
We all know that the current GH regime has absolutely no interest in having Genie on the show. They destroyed and dismantled the greatest supercouple of all time. I hope Genie finds a role where her talents are appreciated, and where she can offer the on screen, Emmy winning magic she is famous for.

I have been missing Laura a great deal. As I stated before, her character is not done yet.
Laura deserves some justice. Guza rolls her away to a mental facility in a catatonic state only to roll her back in to marry Luke in a mock wedding. Her return was not only condescending as hell, it was short lived and Laura was rolled back to Forrest Hills and stored away as if she were a jar of apricot preserves.
Ron had the right idea in bringing her back but she left mid story after mumbling vaguely about going back to Paris. The Luke vs Fluke storyline needs Laura, Luke’s former angel. Yes, I have grown up and realize this supercouple have grown apart but Laura will always be part of who Luke is. Moreover, she would be able to distinguish between Luke and Fluke. Once upon a time, for Luke, the sun rose and set in Laura’s eyes.
Finally, Genie Frances is really special. Any doubt of that, just go on to Youtube and watch old reruns of GH. It wasn’t just about her external beauty–it was her charm, her effervescent personality. She can still light up a room just by entering it.
So yes, by all means, bring Laura back. She doesn’t have to stay but she needs to finish which was begun.

There is no Fluke…there never was…someone mentioned it and i replied to that person…Helene has brainwashed Luke to think he is Fluke so Luke really thinks he is Fluke unaware he is really Luke and when Luke as Fluke is talking to the ‘kidnapped Luke’ he is unaware there is no one there so Luke as Fluke talking to Luke has no idea he is talking to a Luke thats only in his mind and that he as Fluke is really Luke…oh, Fluke this story already…lol

Ditto!!! I thought Frank and Ron ran the show, not Tony. Absolutely, love Laura. Sick of the whole Fluke storyline. If Tony doesn’t want Genie, then I would team Laura up with Robert Scorpio. Way back when, they had a date or two and it drove Luke crazy. Definitely, chemistry between Robert and Laura. He’s worthy of her. We need Laura on GH. Genie is so beautiful on the inside and out. If anyone could give her a great story, it’s Frank and Ron.

Yes Harry but that was the 80’s version of Laura. The past twenty years she has either been in a rocking chair or chewing up secondary dialogue. I love her and the history but she has been on record as saying she would always consider coming back to GH IF they had a story for her. Just having her back to babysit Rocco is a waste of her time and the viewers time.
I agree, Tim. My point to Sue was that Genie can do camp. GH is pure camp now, and Sue loves the camp.
The writing afforded to Genie has been horrible. My main point is this character needs to come back to finish what was started. Then Laura can move on and so can the fans.

I hope we see Genie bring Laura back to GH some time in 2015. She’s one of my all-time favorite characters. Seeing her on another show like Y&R is as bizarre and out of place to me as seeing Tristan Rogers playing someone other than Robert Scorpio. GH is her home, and GH is where she needs to be.
If Tony Geary would rather not do a storyline with her, if that’s really the case, Laura still has a daughter, son, and several grand children in Port Charles, so we don’t automatically need a Luke and Laura reunion for her to be on the show. There would be plenty for Laura to do in PC that doesn’t involve Luke.
Luke and Laura is the greatest couple in soap history, there’s no question about that. But personally, I feel like they had their era, and what a great era it was, but I don’t need to see Luke and Laura get back together. I think it’s great when they do scenes together and pay tribute to the illustrious history they share. I just think it’s not realistic to expect them to get back together.
I think it’s more realistic to say that you can have an all-time great love of your life, which Laura is for Luke and vice versa, someone that you will always love and share a history with, but at the same, you also both move on your lives. That’s the kinda story I would like to see.

Tony Geary has NOT stated he didn’t want to do a storyline with Genie. He stated he didn’t want to revisit storylines that have been done and long gone. He said if the writers could writer for who the characters are NOW that he would be willing to work with Genie again.
I wouldnt bring Genie back to GH unless Luke dies or he retires and they go off into the sunset together and open a diner. On Y&R, yes, I would bring her back because when she was on that show she was written to be a powerful, successful women with a past. It would be good to see her and Colin together going toe to toe and I would like to see her and Victor hook up. Maybe she could be inline with Joe Clark and his business and be the between person in the middle of Joe and Victor. I think those two will end up fighting for redevelopment and somehow Victor appeases the town folk but also builds a huge structure in spite of Joe’s attempts.
She was the reason I started watching GH back in 1977. There is so much for that character to do. She is the heart and soul of that show, if they would only realize that. Woman, who make up a lot of the audience, relate to her and “Laura” has a place in a lot of fans hearts. And fine, if Tony doesn’t want to work with her, there’s more to Laura than Luke.

Geni Francis should be the one to save Luke!!! She always knew where to look. Luke and Laura are the BEST EVER. Why won’t the PTB get her back on? She wants to come back. I think it is time Genie Francis returns to GH. I would love to see Laura return and retake the life she lost because of the catatonic state she was in all those years. There is so much story left to tell about Laura and with her back the ratings would sky rocket higher then ever. I know a lot of people want an L and L reunion but I am willing to take Laura back regardless of an L and L reunion. Tony is not the only power house I think Genie is a wonderful and powerful actress all by herself. I love you Genie Francis and I hope we see you sometime in 2015.
I have enjoyed the movies Genie Francis and Ted McGinley made for Hallmark Movie Channel. She is such a wonderful actress.
I’m from the really old school when Scotty and Laura was the supercouple on GH. I never thought a great romance could develop out of the ashes of rape. Just never worked for me.
As a huge fan of Genie’s, I would welcome her anywhere! She is a great actress who is beautiful to this day. And in interviews, she exudes such class and sweetness.
With the wretched JFP still the Exec Producer of Y&R, I doubt she would ask Genie back. She couldn’t wait to get rid of Genie once JFP took over. However, storyline-wise, it would make sense to have Genevieve there again. And when Genevieve first appeared, she was a bit over-the-top crazy. Genie has no problem with that.
As for GH, a return visit from Laura would be most welcome. But the regimes at GH haven’t had their priorities straight for decades. So, at best, they might invite Genie for a short stay.
Genie would be an asset to any show. She would elevate any production!
There is a way to write Luke and Laura maturely even if they aren’t romantically paired. Laura has lots of missing time we havent seen onscreen. Who has she met? Has she herself been involved in her own solo adventures? At this poiint if nothing else Luke and Laura are a team, they have together defeated countless villians and have laura has always played straight girl to Lukes con man. She isnt without the skills to tackle Her own personal enemies, a he isnt a girl anymore. There is also wealth of story from their 10 missing years from Pprt Charles.
The Fluke storyline is an embarrassing convoluted mess of a storyline. The only thing that could possibly save it for me is for Laura to come back and expose Fluke and help find the real Luke. Genie Francis is just one of those who helped make GH a household word, she deserves better than the dismissive treatment. Shoddy writing and disdain she has gotten from the show runners and Prima Donna Geary. This Fluke storyline is a prime example of what happens when ego is put before the best interest of the show and the fans who support it. Genie looks beautiful and happy, she will be fine no matter what, can’t say the same for GH.
Genie Francis was in Port Charles long before Tony Geary. I remember her playing the teen Laura Vining and getting Leslie to admit to the murder her daughter Laura had committed. Classic soap! She was great then and remained great when Mr. Geary arrived.

Glory Monty and her team put in the hands of everyone who succeeded her the story, the tale, the answer….. the Cassedine curse. Which was put on “Laura and Luke”. It is so time, with the Cassedines back on the screen, to have this all come full circle. Helena behind Laura’s catatonia, Lucky going off the rails, Jake “dying”…. all of which has left Luke Spencer an old, clueless drunkard…. he hasn’t even suspected Helena, even when she was the one who told him that Ethan was his son. Everyone who actually knows this story from the beginning knows that Laura was a wee bit selfish, impulsive, nervous, trying to do the right thing as a kid, but was tough as nails and as a woman grew into a force to be reckoned with. She gave Luke his strength. Without her he would have been killed in a mob hit long, long ago. She was the one who gave him his will to exist, to care, to express, to love. It is so, so, so past time for Laura Spencer to be back on the scene, kicking a$$ and taking names. Time for her to finally give Helena what she has coming. Time to whip that curse to the curb and get on with the happily ever after. Some of us have been waiting a LONG time!! Genie Francis is an incredible actress. She gives a depth, a realism, a strength all wrapped up in a character that she also can make vulnerable, and compassionate, and sweet. This kind of female character…. One we can relate too…. One that is a good mother a real woman… has been so needed on GH for so long. Most of the female roles are being played in a manner that I just can’t relate to at all. Makes me not only not care about the characters but want them to go away all together. Not Laura Spencer. I will always watch GH just to see her next chapter. Genie Francis captivated me as a child, and still as a middle aged woman I am not willing to let go of that character. That is some serious story telling and INCREDIBLE acting!! I need Laura Spencer, Genie Francis and me… a devoted long term core GH viewer (because of Francis and Geary)…. to get our due. It’s about damn time!!

Given that “Luke” is experiencing two very different personalities, & since Anthony Geary said he would rather be “killed off” when the time came to leave GH, I think it would be GREAT to have “Laura” come back & have a hand in his demise, in one way or another!!! After all, there is SO MUCH history between them, that she HAS to be there!!! Wouldn’t be right to do away with “Luke” without “Laura” being there, either trying to help him or killing him off!!!

RATINGS: ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Remain No #1 and # 2, ‘General Hospital’ Only Soap to Lose Viewers
The latest Nielsen ratings data is out for the week of April 27-May 1, and three out of the four network daytime dramas posted gains in total viewers, while one showed a loss in audience numbers, which may come as a surprise.
Let’s take a look at the ratings period with data from Soap Opera Network and then provide some context. The Young and the Restless remained as per usual in the top spot coming in at 3,14,000 on average total viewers slightly up +20,000 more eyeballs for the week.
In story, Y&R served up Matt’s plot to blow up the Newmans inside the abandoned gas station on the outskirts of Vegas, Sienna believing she killed Matt, only for him to be revealed alive with a severe contusion on his head by week’s end, Nick going on a bad drug trip thanks to the fentanyl laced with something else via Matt, and Cane and the Winters family learning that he is a donor match to save Malcolm’s life, while Sally got engaged to Billy.

FASHION HOUSE PROBLEMS
Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful clocked in with 2,795,000 viewers for the week up +38,000 from the previous ratings period. In story, The Bold and the Beautiful gave viewers; the fallout from Katie’s successful fashion show for her new fashion house, Logan. Dylan continuing to be freaked out. This time when doing her work at Forrester Creations, out from the clothing rack comes somebody that scares her enough to have her let out a blood-curdling scream. In addition, Liam suggested to Hope that she consider coming to work for Logan where she will be appreciated, after Steffy tells her that ‘Hope for the Future’ is back-burnered for now.
General Hospital, which many have considered being the most entertaining on a consistent basis with their storylines, most likely lost some viewers for the week because on Monday April 27, the show was preempted for a special report on the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondence dinner. If viewers did not catch it on Hulu, it aired on the network after Nightline on Tuesday at 1am. In total, GH was the only soap to lose viewers for the ratings week. GH tallied -1,809,000 which is down from the previous week by -168,000.

PAYBACK AND A SHOCKING REVEAL
In story that week, Carly’s double life with Brennan and Valentin caught up with her, Michael initiated a strategic plot against Willow, and Josslyn found herself in immediate danger after a run-in with Cassius.
Beyond the Gates, while having two days of the week fully preempted for UEFA Champions League soccer games, actually increased its viewership. BTG tallied 1,655,00 total viewers which also boasted the highest audience gains across any soap adding +42,000. In story, the soap opera spotlighted: Ashley stealing antibiotics to keep Grayson alive, Smitty zeroing in on a possible suspect in the plasma ring, Vernon taking over Martin’s debt to Joey Armstrong, while Kate recognized a name tied to Lynette’s finances.
It should also be noted for the ratings week; The Bold and the Beautiful once again topped Y&R for the top spot in the key Womens 18-49 demo and in the Womens 25-54 demo, Beyond the Gates once again bested General Hospital for the 3rd spot.

On the Friday, May 15 episode of General Hospital, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) shared a heartfelt talk on trauma. Dante is so concerned for Rocco (Finn Carr), and how it affects someone for the rest of their life, which is something Elizabeth knows all too well, but got through it.
It all begins when Elizabeth shows up at Dante’s office ready for her date with Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst). How beautiful she looked did not go unnoticed by Dante. When the talked turned to how Dante told Rocco that he knew his son shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), he admits he is scared for his child, because he lost his innocence with the emotional baggage he now must carry forever of shooting someone.
Dante notices how Rocco is becoming more and more withdrawn and he wants to know how to help him. Elizabeth bring up how she can absolutely relate to trauma at a young age, just like Rocco. However for Elizabeth, her trauma came in the form of a brutal rape by Tom Baker. Speaking from experience, Elizabeth details that it was her friends and family like Lucky and Bobbie who helped pull her through. She encourages Dante to continue to show up and be there as support for his son.

Next, an officer delivers to Dante the evidence from the pier shooting, which Dante plans on destroying. Before she leaves for her date with Ric, Liz reassured Dante he is doing the right thing to protect Rocco and she has done the same. She has left no record of Rocco’s hospital visit the night of the shooting. Liz leaves for her date.
THE WRONG SUSPECT
Then, Cullum storm troops in to Dante’s office demanding the evidence that the PCPD must have collected at the site of his shooting. Dante says that the evidence must be misfiled in the warehouse, but they will find it. However, Cullum realizes Dante is stalling and lying. Before heading to Dante’s office, Cullum paid a visit to Carly (Laura Wright) and saw a photo of Danny with Jason, triggering him to now believe that Danny may have been the person who shot him in the back on the pier!

DINING WITH RIC
At dinner at Café Cherie, Ric handed Elizabeth the folder with the priceless piece of artwork he’d purchased for her through Ava. Elizabeth loved it and went over to Ric and planted a kiss on him.

In well-played scenes on the Thursday, May 14 episode of General Hospital, Dante (Dominic Zampogna) finally had a talk with his son, Rocco (Finn Carr) informing him that he knows the teen shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).
Rocco has dreaded his father finding out, because he is the acting police commissioner of the Port Charles PD and feared his dad will have to arrest him for the crime.
Dante asks Rocco in his own words to recount what happened the night on the pier. He assured his son, he is not going to arrest him and noted there are very extenuating circumstances surrounding the crime.

FATHER AND SON
Rocco explained how he followed Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) to the pier. Then, how Cullum attacked Britt. Jason (Steve Burton) showed up and fought with Cullum and how the gun came loose.He remembers the other weapon Cullum pulled out to kill Jason and that’s when he shot him.
Next, Dante explained that he was proud of his son for saving Jason and Britt’s lives. He also tells Rocco that he is very concerned in Britt’s involvement in all of this stemming all the way back to the Five Poppies, and feels she is still tied into everything that is happening.
Dante tells Rocco that nobody else can know about this involvement in the shooting. He also touchingly said, that he is his father, he will protect him. However, Rocco is worried that if the truth came out that he shot Cullum, his dad would be in serious trouble for covering up a crime. Dante tells Rocco, he should not worry about that right now, but he needs to stay in Port Charles so he and his mom can keep him safe.
A SHOCKING CALL
Suddenly, as father and son hug it out, Dante gets a call from Justine (Nazneen Contractor), alerting him to the fact that she just met with Cullum and he is looking for the evidence and the file from his shooting. Dante rolls his eyes, knowing things are about to go from bad to worse, and how is he going to keep his son safe from the evil WSB Director?
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Dominic Zamprogna always delivers a nice counterbalance to the often histrionics of other characters in Port Charles in his portrayal of Dante Falconeri. So that, when Dante breaks or gets emotional, it counts. Finn Carr has continually shined in the storyline as Rocco continues to teeter on the edge of knowing what he has done and being wracked with guilt. Next up has to be Danny learning his brother is the reason Jason was carted away. Stay tuned!
