GH and DAYS Alum, Tyler Christopher On Family Legal Drama: “Being Homeless Was a Far Better Circumstance Than Being in the Guardianship”

Daytime Emmy-winning actor, Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas Cassadine, GH, ex-Stefan DiMera, DAYS), was the subject of a profile on Bloomberg Law.

The profile had to do with illustrating issues that arise with legal guardianship cases.  In Tyler’s case, his sister, Susan Asmo Baker became Christopher’s legal guardian after he had fractured his skull in 2019 while withdrawing from alcohol poisoning.

While recovering from brain surgery, Tyler’s sister filed a petition in 2020 to put him under guardianship. She was granted it, but Christopher is alleging in court documents that his sister misspent or improperly received reimbursement for $40,000 to pay down her own credit card debt, bankrolled her own move, and even bought her son a MacBook.

In response, Asmo Baker says her brother’s complaints are unproven “allegations.”  She wrote to Bloomberg that, “If I hadn’t been his Guardian he’d be DEAD!”

When the guardianship ended in 2021, she allegedly reached out to the actor writing, “I would have never done you wrong, not before your injury, during or after and for some reason you think I need your money … I DO NOT TYLER! Sad that you don’t even trust me. That’s what hurts the most.”

Back in April of this year in an attempt to settle things, Baker agreed to pay for a forensic accountant to examine her spending under the guardianship. If the review supports her brother’s accusations, Baker has to pay it back.

As his guardianship evolved, Tyler shared, he was “completely in the dark about everything.  I was recovering from a brain injury so the choice for guardianship was made for me without my knowledge.”

In legal documents, Christopher said he believes his sister’s original intent and motivation was partly genuine. Once Tyler and his lawyer began digging into the finances, he said his relationship with his sister became “fractured.”

After the guardianship ended in 2022, Tyler went back to Hollywood from Indiana, to try to find work as an actor where he was homeless for the first six months.  Back in May of this year, Tyler was arrested for public intoxication.  Even with all of that, Christopher related that those troubles were not as bad as how he felt under his sister’s guardianship, adding, “Being homeless was a far better circumstance than being in the guardianship.”

You can read the entire Bloomberg report on family guardianships here.

So, what do you think about what Tyler went through following his brain surgery and being in a guardianship overseen by his sister? Comment below.

Is this the impetus for the Gladys-Sasha storyline?

I was thinking the Sasha guardian story might have been “loosely inspired” by Britney Spears who just recently got out of a guardianship situation after several years, due to her mental health issues.

Tyler talked about his story on Maurice Bernard’s show State of Mind. It could be that his sister helped him with good intentions, saved his life and true he might not be here without that help. Then, person with access to free money (sister) could’t help but spend some… Hope Tyler can overcome, he is a terrific actor!! They don’t just give Daytime Emmys away! Also hope he can forgive his sister if she did misspend some of his money.

If she spent $40k, oh well! He would have paid more than that at a drunk tank for that long. Putting up with a drunk trying to get alcohol and those moods is not easy. Plus, he was recovering from brain surgery? She was a nurse maid and a dang therapist. If she needed some money, let her have some. But next time, she needs to ask. However, he was probably being a horse’s behind.

It looks like she was in NC and he was in Indiana. I don’t know that she was a nurse maid and therapist. Regardless of his condition, she shouldn’t take his money. If she needed something for living expenses, that might be understandable, but she should have receipts.

My understanding he was recovering from Brain surgery.

TC is an alcoholic ok he loves the booze it is the most important thing to him more important then his family his job everything. Being homeless would be more exciting because one can lay in filth and drink himself to death and that’s exactly what is going to happen to this man. He wants to whine about everything but I’ve yet to hear one word out of his mouth he wants to get sober and stay sober.

It’s advisable not to make generalizations about a disease you likely know little about.

One does not have to discuss their recovery plan in public. Yes, the tough struggles along the way often do hit the media.

What matters is his personal recovery – not whether he shares the details with the world.

Thank you, Steve. I have loved ones in recovery, and I’ve learned the most hurtful thing you can do to them is shame them
or not believe them when they’re telling the truth. The AMA has recognized alcoholism as a real disease. Moreover, Tyler is struggling with a dual diagnosis due to also being bipolar. He’s doing the best he can, and speaking his truth. We just need to listen without judgement.

I would not have come on so strong if I had not known what I was talking about! My father had trouble with the booze he took his problems out on my mom. I hope Tyler gets the help he needs and decides the booze is not that important

My heart breaks for Tyler. I pray that he will stay in a serious alcohol rehab program and maintain his sobriety.

Tyler sadly relapsed lately per his own words. Hope he gets the help he still needs. He couldve drunk himself to death. His sister may have saved his life and we have not heard her side. She agreed to forensic accounting per article.

Brain surgery is no simple recovery and his chemistry could have been messed up from the surgery.

If his was to return to GH… I would hope his many supportive cast members would always help him build his confidence and self esteem.

Nobody was shaming him certainly not me just disgusted he had a wonderful family he threw it away

Don’t make remarks I know nothing about! Hope he beats this ! But his family did not mean enough to him to get sober! Now if you have a problem with that I’m sorry his family should come first

Would love to hear he gets it together he gets his family back and he is sober ! Will pray that happens! He can do it but first he has to admit he is an alcoholic ! Can he do that

‘General Hospital’s’ Nancy Lee Grahn Reveals Contract Status, Memoir in the Works Detailing Family Court Battle for Her Daughter

In a revealing conversation on this week’s edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, the besties and co-hosts welcomed three-time Daytime Emmy winner, Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis, General Hospital).

While there were several eye-opening moments, GH fans were in for some great news when Nancy shared she just signed a new three-year deal to remain with the soap opera as everyone’s favorite legal eagle. Grahn expressed, “I just re-signed my contract — another three years, and I’m so grateful for this part of my life.”

As soap fans know, Grahn began her role as Alexis back in September of 1996 after her very successful and Emmy-winning run of Julia Wainwright on Santa Barbara and previously her time as Beverly Wilkes on One Life to Live. This coming September will mark Nancy’s 30th anniversary with  GH which will continue her having the longest-running consecutive tenure of any actress in the cast.

HAVING A CHILD

When Nancy sat down for this taped interview with Rebecca and Greg, the subject of the book she had mentioned previously she had been writing was brought up which Grahn says when she finishes it, it will be more like stories from her life than a true memoir. However, one very tumultuous  part of her life after becoming pregnant with her musician artist, Kate Grahn is detailed as a story for mother’s everywhere if having to go to family court.

Nancy explained, “One of the reasons I started writing the book was I was going to write about family court because I ended up having almost four years of it. It was brutal. I stopped writing it at one point, and said I’ll come back when I’m not so angry and that was like 10 years later.”

Detailing what occurred, the three-time Emmy winner noted, “I wanted to make a baby and so at 38 and a half, that relationship did not work out. I was recurring on two or three different shows at the time. So I was working, I was making money. My ex-boyfriend when he moved, he said, “What can I do to make this better?” I said, ‘You can put sperm in the bank.’ So he did, and then he moved to North Carolina, and then I called General Hospital and said, ‘Does anybody want me?’

THE BEGINNING OF THE FAMILY COURT BATTLE

“Michele Val Jean (former writer, now head writer/creator Beyond the Gates), Wendy Riche (former executive producer and Richard Culliton (former head writer) told me I had a job. To get pregnant, I did not end up going to the sperm bank. I don’t want to reveal everything, because then nobody will read my book. But I will say, it did seem that I would need a miracle.”

The three-time Emmy winner told Rebecca and Greg, “I went and sat on this bench on Fryman Canyon every day, and I’d visualize, and I thought, ‘I’m going to make one last attempt to meet someone,’ and I’d visualize meeting this guy, and he’d say this to me, and then we’d go here and do that, etc. That’s exactly what happened  I saw this person for two or maybe three months and saw behavior that was unacceptable to me, and then found out I was pregnant two months later. That person did not want to be involved, and we were not together anymore. And then when Kate was five, he served me with papers. I was stunned at what could happen. Stunned. Four women (legal counsel) showed up out of nowhere that ended up saving Kate and me.”

SONNY TAKES KRISTINA FROM ALEXIS IN COURT

Explaining how life can imitate art on a soap opera, while Nancy was going through this in her personal life, Alexis was having her child, Kristina ripped by her in court by the baby daddy, Sonny Corinthos. “The storyline at the time was Sonny was taking my (Alexis) child away from me, a mobster, a criminal, had gained custody in court of a child. So, I remember going up to the head writer at the time, begging him to, ‘please don’t do this to me.'”

“Back to the family court battle,” finished Grahn. “It was so incredibly intense, but everything worked out. I was awarded full custody. I thought the court is where when you get inside that justice happens, but wait till you read this in the book, a lot happens.”

You can check out the full conversation with Nancy on the Soapy podcast below.

So, glad to hear Nancy has signed on to General Hospital for three more years as Alexis Davis? What do you think of her revealing story about how she was taken to family court to get a full custody of her daughter, Kate after her ex resurfaced wanting right to their child after previously wantin no part of it? GENERAL HOSPITAL: Cassius Faison’s Cover is Blown

Published

By

In the dramatic cliffhanger to the Monday, June 29 episode of General Hospital, multiple parties found out that the man posing as “Nathan West” is really his twin brother, Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey).

All this leads to tension-filled several minutes where at a stakeout, Joe (Jonathan Bennett), who was following the whereabouts of Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), was suddenly met by Cassius who jumped into the PCPD cop’s undercover vehicle professing to help him with the Sidwell takedown.

We already knew that Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) threatened Cassius to end Sidwell once and for all or he will do away with his mother, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) and Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) who are currently kidnapped at Wyndemere. So, clearly Cassius’ next move is pivotal.

GOOD COP VS. DIRTY COP

As the two “cops” see Ezra Boyle (Daniel Cosgrove) pull Sidwell out of the trunk of the car he is driving, and the two men go inside a house that was supposed to be a gift for Marco, Ezra tells Sidwell he needs to leave town. However, Jenz is determined to find Marco’s killer and therefore he wants Boyle to expose Cullum, while he tuns his attentions to bring down Sonny.

Joe and “Nathan” come into the house guns drawn. Sidwell demands Cassius shoot Joe and tells everyone present that the man claiming he is “Nathan,” is actually his twin brother, Cassius. Not only that, but Cassius is working with him. In that moment, Cassius turns his gun towards Joe and tell the officer to drop his gun.

Meanwhile, in France, Anna (Finola Hughes) gives the letter written by Madeline Reeves to Felicia (Kristina Wagner) to read where it explains how Obrecht gave birth to twins, which is why she believes and knows she is correct that “Nathan” is really Cassius Faison. After trying to comprehend all of this, Anna worries Felicia thinks she’s still crazy. But in the end, Anna implores Felicia, where does this leave James?

KEEPING JAMES SAFE

Next, Felicia gives Mac (John J. York) the letter to read and they realize Anna is telling the truth and they have to keep James safe. Felicia phones Cody (Josh Kelly), but his phone is off since he is frolicking in the metro court pool with Molly (Kristen Vaganos) and James (Gary James Fuller). She leaves a message and clearly tells Cody to keep James away from “Nathan.”

It would appear Cassius has a major choice to make on today’s Tuesday, June 30 episode of General Hospital. Turn the gun on Sidwell and shoot him, take off with Joe as a hostage, or something else will go down.

Take a look at the video teaser for a preview of today’s GH below.

Then let us know, how do you see Cassius escaping with the walls closing in on his duplicity? Is this the end of the line for Sidwell, too? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section.
