GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason asks Carly to Marry Him and She Responds “With All My Heart”

The stage is set now for General Hospital’s Jason/Carly/Sonny/Nina story to explode as things heated up between longtime friends and former lovers, Jason (Steve Burton) and Carly (Laura Wright) just as Jax (Ingo Rademacher) is in Nixon Falls pleading with Nina (Cynthia Watros) to come clean and tell “Mike”(Maurice Benard) that he is indeed, Sonny Corinthos.  Here’s what went down on Friday’s episode …

Back in Port Charles, at the demolished former “Jake’s”, Carly and Jason’s old stomping grounds, Carly and Jason share a kiss. Carly says she can’t believe this is happening after letting him know that all of her old romantic feelings for him are starting to come back. Apparently that is true for Jason too, as the ABC daytime drama series finally reaches back into the history of these two characters who were in love, before Carly slept with Sonny.  Back in the present day, Jason asks Carly to marry him, and she responds, “With all my heart.” But now, Carly is starting to feel more excited about what started off as a business arrangement between the two of them to retain the Corinthos family hold over the five families and the territory in Sonny’s absence.  Carly says she wants their wedding day to be about them, and later they can come to Jake’s just by themselves.

In Nixon Falls, Jax (Ingo Rademacher) is trying to get through to Nina, who has admitted her duplicity to him and how she has fallen in love with “Mike”.  When Jax informs her that Carly and Jason are getting married, she thinks that’s great then she and “Mike” can have a future together.  Nina wants Jax to just forget this conversation, and seeing Sonny, and do this for her; after all she went through in losing her child, Nelle, and her relationship with him. Then Jax asks her to think about Donna and Avery and Wiley, his children and grandchild, who don’t know he is alive and will never get to know him. Nina cries that Jax has won, and that she will tell “Mike” the truth in private (but something tells us, she is going to make “Mike” walk-in on Jason and Carly’s nuptials, so that she has a shot of keeping him all to herself by the betrayal he will witness).  Jax says he is not leaving Nixon Falls till she tells Sonny the truth, but she somehow she still got him to leave through her pleading to let her do this alone.  As Nina thinks “Mike” is walking in the front door of the Tan-O, in walks Peter (Wes Ramsey)!

Meanwhile, Jordan (Briana Nicole Henry) is rushed to General Hospital unconscious with Portia (Brook Kerr) not far behind, after being trapped together.  More bad news is revealed when Austin (Roger Howarth) gets the blood results back for Jordan and tells Curtis (Donnell Turner) that Jordan’s levels of carbon monoxide are 58% which is not good for someone with one kidney.  Austin relates that if Jordan’s kidney function doesn’t improve, they’ll have put her on dialysis.  TJ (Tajh Bellow) comes to see his mom, and sits by her bedside in tears.  Later, Curtis breaks down in tears holding Jordan’s hand to come back to him, and she opens her eyes, as Portia walks in on the scene.

Three of the five families plan to take over Port Charles and split the territory after their secret meeting, where they plan to blow up a warehouse while Carly and Jason are distracted and at their wedding; the families also received a message from Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) while in prison.  Who will stop the “hit”?

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nicholas Alexander Chavez Delivers Emotional Turn as Spencer’s Party Goes South

On Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital, the story at Wyndemere continued.  After Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) was revealed to be the masked “assailant” with a fake knife “stabbing” his son, Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), confrontations arose.

At the epicenter was newcomer, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who has stepped into the role of the entitled and troubled teen-aged Cassadine.  In the story, his father, Nikolas, wanted to make his son “pay” for scaring Ava (Maura West) and stalking her. However, now that someone set fire to Ava’s car everyone believes the stalker could not have been Spencer.

Laura (Genie Francis) and Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) are also Wyndemere … and Laura is very upset at the way her son is dishing it out to her grandson.

When Nikolas explains the reasons for actions to Spencer, an emotional Spencer says, “You decided to evoke my mother (in reference to the late Courtney Matthews), to manipulate me, to tell me to be the man that she would want me to be. Just because you decided that I’m guilty.”

Next, Nikolas apologizes to his son for pushing him emotionally hard, and that prompts Spencer to tell his father to not call him his son, shouting “Do not call me that! And don’t claim to love me.”  At that point, Spencer exits with Trina (Sydney Mikayla) behind him, and Laura ready to tell Nikolas the error of his ways on how he is handling the trouble with his son.

It’s always nice to see when a young actor on daytime gets handed on the ball and delivers, and in the case of Chavez he did just that bringing up Spencer’s inner turmoil and pain.  Let’s remember he lost his mother, and his father pretended to be dead for three years in which he grieved.  Yes, Spencer is spoiled, but it will be intriguing to see just how the GH writers decide to mine the character moving forward with Chavez.

The scenes in the episode with Chavez along with Marcus Coloma, and Genie Francis reminded us all that Cassadine family drama can always tug at the heart.

So, what did you think of Nicholas’ performance? What did you think of what Nikolas Cassadine perpetrated on his son, Spencer? Share your thoughts and theories in the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Lenny Dies In Episode Featuring Heart-Tugging Ensemble Performances

When the performances and a great script all come together it makes for daytime drama at its best, and on Friday’s unexpected episode of General Hospital, the long running ABC daytime drama series delivered just that.

The juxtaposition of two stories which at its epicenter is Maurice Benard as “Mike”, and as Sonny (as conjured up as sort of Carly’s conscience) in the present, and how they intersected made it all the more poignant.

In Nixon Falls, and back at the Tan-O, Lenny (Rif Hutton) and Phyllis (Joyce Guy) are on the porch just relaxing and watching the sunset. Meanwhile “Mike” and Nina (Cynthia Watros) talk about how they can create a fishing trip just like when Lenny and Phyllis met, since they want to give them some moments for them to remember before Lenny eventually dies.  However, they won’t get the chance.  When Phyllis come inside to freshen up their ice-tea and “Mike” and Nina tell her they will fill her in on what they were talking about, “Mike” heads outside to get Lenny.  Once he gets there he sees that Lenny is unresponsive. “Mike” checks on him and realizes he is dead.  He then walks into the bar emotionally overcome with tears in his eyes.  Phyllis drops the ice tea pitcher and realizes from the look on “Mike’s” face, Lenny must have passed away.

Nina, “Mike”, and Phyllis head outside, where Phyllis, at first, calmly tells them it was quick and peaceful and she is thankful for that, but she asks for a moment alone with her husband. It is then, Phyllis lets out a wail and is just devastated in a heartbreaking moment played beautifully by Joyce Guy.  Inside, a moment seems to almost jog, or starts to jog “Mike’s” memory, when he says to Nina that he can’t imagine losing a spouse like that and how it must be like a “never-ending pain”.  Nina gets a fretful look on her face, knowing what her deceit must be doing to Carly (Laura Wright). “Mike” does not want Phyllis to go through this loss alone and Nina takes his hand and says the two of them will be there for her together.

As this is playing out, Carly is visited by the conscience of Sonny, as she tries to come to terms with marrying Jason and moving on in her life without him.  The scenes between Laura Wright and Maurice Benard here, were simply stated and very moving.  Carly tells Sonny, that marrying Jason (Steve Burton) will mean she’ll finally have to let go of Sonny. She wants him to know she’ll never love anyone like him, and she’ll love him forever.  He says “Right back at you”.  Before he vanishes, Carly tells him that their relationship was so torrid … the love, the break-ups, the heartache, the passion … but it was all worth it because she can never love anyone like him.  She also tells Sonny she is worried what marrying Jason will do to her longstanding friendship with him.  Sonny advises her to have this part of her conversation with Jason and not with him.

Jason has come to see Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) at the hospital and tells her he is there out of concern for her.  Joey Novak may make her a target because of their history.  She tells him no one has bothered her, and that their “history” is over. Jason then goes into how proud he was of her for finding out she had the marker for Huntington’s disease and the courage that it took to do that.  He expresses that he wishes he could be there for her to help her through this.  Britt is overcome with tears, saying that he can’t be with her, and tells him to take care of himself.  Once again, Kelly Thiebaud was flawless in these moments.

At the end of the episode, Jason comes back to Carly’s and he asks if everything is okay … and with a smile on her face, she says “It is now and that she’s glad he’s home.”

Kudos to Maurice Benard, Cynthia Watros, Joyce Guy, Rif Hutton, Laura Wright, Steve Burton, and Kelly Thiebaud for some great work throughout the episode.
