In a time of need, Jason reaches out to Elizabeth for help and unleashes some pent-up anger at John, the man he thinks set him up. Meanwhile, the just-returned Kristina lets loose on Alexis and Sonny for buying her way into Yale and introduces her new “project” to the entire family. Anna explains to Mac and McBain why she turned down the mayor’s offer to become the new police commissioner of Port Charles. While Matt informs a stunned Patrick and Elizabeth that he killed Lisa and must pay the price, Spinelli professes his love to Maxie. But she’s unusually cool to his advances.  Later, Maxie throws a huge wrench into the prosecution’s case against Matt.

Jason confronts John about tipping off authorities, but John claims innocence. The men spar over John’s motives: is this actually about Sam? Later, Sam is surprised to learn that Elizabeth bailed Jason out of jail. A camera crew sets to work and Kristina introduces them to the unsavory details about her family, to Sonny and Alexis’s horror. But Kristina assures them the show will go on … or she walks out of their lives for good. Dante and Delores obtain a search warrant for Johnny’s penthouse. Meanwhile, Luke and Tracy search everywhere for Anthony’s missing dead body without success. Later, Dante and Delores arrive to arrest them as they try to get rid of the gun.  Everyone is stunned to discover that Maxie and Matt are married, giving Maxie the ability not to testify against her own husband. Spinelli is brokenhearted.

A fraught moment passes between Sam and John McBain as they acknowledge the strange nature of their relationship for Jason. They agree to steer clear of each other … only for Sam’s water to break, and Sam goes into labor.  Todd finds Tea unconscious in the parking lot and rushes her to the hospital despite the looming storm. On the way, their car spins out, leaving them stuck in the mud … just as Tea goes into labor.  Meanwhile, Sonny and Jason decide to send John a message: stay out of the way.  Heather finds a dead Anthony good company propped up in her car. She pulls over on the side of the road in the storm, hoping to find a convenient place to bury him. Lulu is shocked her father is a murder suspect and demands to know the truth.

As Tea relies on Todd for the safe delivery of her baby, John coaches Sam through giving birth at the motel. Tea’s baby is in distress, and Todd goes into the road searching for help — coming across Heather Webber. Can she save Tea’s baby?  Back at the motel, Sam realizes that her son needs medical attention, but where is John McBain.  Meanwhile, Jason arranges two thugs to send John a violent message. Carly counsels Jason, peeling back the wool to his emotions — and he realizes he loves Sam and their baby, no matter who the father is. He tries to call off the assault as he goes in search of Sam. But later, we see McBain unconscious on the roadside.   Finding an abandoned gardener’s shack, Heather prepares a final resting place for Anthony. Meanwhile, Johnny pushes Dante and Delores to punish Luke and Heather for Anthony’s murder. Elsewhere, Luke confesses to Lulu that he is innocent but begs his daughter to keep this a secret from her husband.

General Hospital’s Maura West Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

On last Thursday and Friday’s episode of General Hospital, the ABC soap opera finally moved the story forward with the reveal to Ava (Maura West) that Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) and Esme (Avery Pohl) slept together, and within it, fans got to witness the beginning of the fallout and the reaction as played by three-time Daytime Emmy-winner and enduring fan favorite, Maura West.

As one might expect, the material in the hands of the mighty West, and the acting choices she makes are always intriguing and masterful.

In story, things start to unravel for Ava, when outside Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) courtroom trial, Esme and Ava have a confrontation.  It is there that Esme snarks at Ava, that she has the ability to destroy her world.  When Ava dares her to try, Nikolas shows up on the scene begging Esme to stop.  However, a manipulative Esme says, “Too late, I’m ending this right here, right now.” After lighting the fire, Esme walks off telling Nikolas to have a nice chit chat with his wife.

Next, Ava and Nikolas go to a private office, and Nikolas tells her that he made a huge mistake. A now suspicious Ava, asks, “What kind of mistake?” Nikolas then goes on to explain how he slept with Esme, just once, when he thought his relationship with Ava had tanked and had suffered irreparable damage.

What comes after was where West shined, as a sarcastic Ava quipped, “Poor you, seduced by a high school graduate.”  Ava, then launches into that she thought she married a man, but instead she married a spineless weakling, and now she is going to burn him to the ground.

Later at Wyndemere, as Esme is frantically packing her suitcase and taking with her the all-important envelope linking her to Ryan (Jon Lindstrom), Ava appears and a confrontation begins with Ava calling out Esme as a, “conniving little whore”. Esme flaps back that Ava slept with both Morgan and Sonny (Maurice Benard)! Having put two and two together, Ava says she know that Esme is responsible for the revenge sex tape of Cameron (Willian Lipton) and Joss (Eden McCoyand setting fire to her car.

Ava has wised up from all of Esme’s nasty statements and has come to realize that everything Esme has done including sleeping with Nikolas, feels like a targeted, planned attack on her, and she knows there is more to this story than Esme has ever let on.  When Ava spots the envelope in Esme’s suitcase, she goes to get it, but Esme grabs it from her. Then, with a steely warning, Ava tells Esme that she will be going to the courthouse now to exonerate Trina, and if she doesn’t, Ava will make sure Esme disappears and no one will ever be able to find her alive.

Now, while some viewers may be waiting for a knock-down drag-out catfight, we don’t know what will happen on Monday or Tuesday’s episode, but sometimes it’s more delicious just letting the words and its intentions drive the action, and West delivered the goods in spades in scenes with Marcus Coloma and Avery Pohl.

For all the reasons stated above, Michael Fairman TV names Maura West’s work as The Power Performance of the Week.

What did you think of Maura’s performance in the scenes where Ava finds out Nikolas slept with Esme and Ava’s confrontation later with Esme? What do you hope happens next?  Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section.  But firstm check out some moments from West’s performance below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Esme’s Veiled Threat to Nikolas, “I Want To Tell Ava and Spence We Slept Together”

Everything’s coming up roses for Esme Prince (Avery Pohl), or at least it seems to be after Monday’s episode of General Hospital.

After Esme drugs Oz, he begins to pass out while she hides as Curtis (Donnell Turner) breaks down Oz’s door. When Curtis enters the apartment, Oz utters, “She gave me something,” and then passes out.  Next, Curtis calls 911 due to an unresponsive Oz, and he is soon whisked away by paramedics to GH, while Esme escapes sight unseen.

Elsewhere, at the lobby of the hotel, Ava (Maura West) and Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) are joined by Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) where they go over the events that transpired at Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) trial.  At the same time, Nikolas gets a text message from Esme who is now outside the hotel and tells him to come out and meet her, or she will come inside.

Once outside, Esme tells Nikolas that their secret is heavily weighing on her and wants to come clean to Ava and Spence. Esme tells Nikolas: “I want to tell Ava and Spence we slept together,” which mortifies Nikolas! He goes on to tell her it was a one time thing that will not happen again, so there is no need to bring it up.  Next, Esme opines about feeling lost without the internship at Spring Ridge.  So, what’s a guy to do?  Tell the woman he slept with he will make sure her internship is reinstated by tomorrow! All fake smiles and crocodile tears, Esme’s machinations is working wonders for her.

At GH, TJ (Tajh Bellow) tells Curtis that they had to put Oz in a medically-induced coma, and they will have to see what drugs were in his system at the time he passed out. Curtis is sure Esme Prince was behind this and wants to prove the connection between her and Oz.

Now going for the trifecta, Esme calls GH and gets Dione at the nurses’ station.  Esme pretends to be Oz’s daughter where she learns that her ‘dad’ is in a coma.  That’s music to Esme’s ears and she is all smiles – grinning from ear to ear.

GH’s Brook Kerr on Portia/Stella Scenes Over Esme Targeting Trina, Shares: “Overwhelmed with All the Love and Support … My Heart Jumped When I Read That Material”

If you caught last Friday’s episode of General Hospital, you saw, and heard, how the writing team at the ABC daytime drama series wove into the fabric of the upcoming Trina courtroom drama, race relations in our country and the justice system.

The words were spoken by Trina’s (Tabyana Ali) mother, Portia (Brook Kerr), who is beside-herself with worry now that Trina’s court date is here. She shares how she believes Trina was targeted by Esme (Avery Pohl), when Esme decided to plant the phone that made it ‘appear’ that Trina was the person who taped Cameron (William Lipton) and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) having sex and had it go viral.

In key scenes, Portia shares her worries with Stella (Vernee Watson).  She expresses that Esme knew Trina would have a more difficult time facing the justice system, because she is black. Portia voices that members of the jury may fail to realize Trina’s innocence and as a mother, feels she has failed Trina, because she never prepared her for the harsh realities of the world.  Portia goes on to say that Trina grew up with a very sheltered life, and now she realizes that may have been a terrible error on her part.

Stella, always the voice of reason, disagrees. She tells Portia that she knows that Trina understands the world, and most importantly, try as she may, she can’t shield her daughter from everything that life throws at her.  She also shares that she knows the justice system isn’t always fair to people who look like Trina, but that she has to believe that in 2022 things are changing, and that Trina will be acquitted.  As Portia is in tears, Stella hugs her and assures her that Trina is a fighter. Throughout the scenes, Brook Kerr definitely delivered and now has material to submit for next year’s Emmys!

Over the weekend, Brook Kerr took to Twitter after seeing the reaction to the scenes. Kerr shared:I’m overwhelmed with all the love and support I’ve received from yesterday’s episode… My heart jumped when I read that material. And to be able to do it with @VerneeWJohnson_.  I’m catching up and y’all got me crying now… Thank you to the whole #gh family”

So, what did you think of Brook Kerr’s performance in the key scenes? Glad that GH touched on racial injustice? Comment below.
