GH’s Eden McCoy Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

By Michael Fairman

Not often does a week’s worth of soaps offer up so many outstanding performances. However, the beginning of 2023 brought just that in dramatic scenes featuring General Hospital’s Kathleen Gati (Liesl), Kelly Thiebaud (ex-Britt), Willian Lipton (Cameron), Parry Shen (Brad) and Days of our Lives Lauren Koslow (Kate).

When all was said and done there was one performance, that for us, rang most true. For anyone who has ever gone through a break-up and had to let someone you care about down, you could feel and understand the raw emotion displayed by General Hospital’s Eden McCoy (Josslyn).

Photo: ABC

Not only did McCoy deliver during the breakup scenes as Joss broke Cameron’s heart into pieces, but later, Joss is shocked and guilt-ridden to find out that Britt died from ‘The Hook’s’ attack after saving her life, and then having to admit the whole thing to her mother, Carly (Laura Wright). Never mind the one other event of that fateful night.  Joss had sex with Dex (Evan Hofer) before she headed over to Kelly’s to talk to Cameron, realizing she should have cleared-up her relationship, first.

McCoy really shined when Josslyn arrived at Kelly’s to tell Cameron things have changed between them. She tearfully apologized for not coming to him sooner.  She promises she will always love him, but she is not in love with him anymore, and she lets him know there is no going back. They can’t fix things.  As Josslyn pours her heart out knowing what this was doing to Cameron, it was a five-hankie moment, indeed.

Photo: ABC

In addition, when Josslyn spills most all to her mother (she left out the part of having sex with Dex), you could genuinely feel the bond between the two, which as we have stated many times through the years, speaks to the perfect casting of McCoy as Carly’s daughter and her on-screen chemistry with Laura Wright.

For all of these well-played and outstanding moments, Michael Fairman TV names Eden McCoy our pick for The Power Performance of the Week.

Now let us know, what did you think of Eden’s work in the break-up scenes between Joss and Cam and its aftermath? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Probably some of Eden’s best work. She’s developing into a fine young actress.

That said, best performance of the week was definitely Kathleen Gati. She always brings it, but Liesl’s anguish and grief was both heartbreaking and riveting to watch.

I agree. Kathleen Gati was emotionally compelling. Eden was wonderful. I may despise the hypocrisy of the character but the actress is damn talented.

I agree

The girl has beauty and talent. I’m not liking the portrayal too much, lately, but I still love Eden/Joss. The actress is going places….Everyone was amazing.

So well deserved!! Congrats Eden.
She is an amazing actress with a great career ahead if this is what she chooses to do.

Eden’s performance was heart wrenching. It was a realistic portrayal of first love that quite often isn’t forever ❤️

Eden was excellent! But so were Britt, Liesl, Cameron & Brad!! Even Maxi had a ‘moment’ less annoying!
Eden McCoy is definitely One to Watch!
I just want to know why they had to kill Britta off!?! I know she’s going to primetime, but she could have come back for visits off-season!

Kelly found love with a man from the UK and they had been having a long distance relationship. She said in a recent interview that she told producers she was never coming back. She quit because she found love.

Oh, I didn’t know that…thanks for the info!
I’m very happy for her!

I agree 100%about Britta. And also while Eden was great, definitely not better than William or Liesl etc.

I totally agree. I didn’t find her performance emotionally compelling. When William said, “I’m such an idiot”, imo, made the scene.

I don’t care for William’s acting at all. He leaves me cold. But Eden had a few awesome performances this past week. She is not a master like Kathleen Gati, yet, but she’s on her way.

Cameron really reminds me of a young Lucky Spencer lately. Which makes perfect sense, as Lucky is the only true father that kid ever had. Not bio related, of course (that would be Zander Smith who committed “suicide by cop” before Cam was born) but now that Cam’s hair is a little longer, he’s even starting to look like Lucky.

When he was talking to Liz at Kelly’s yesterday, it was almost like a 90s flashback scene.

Totally agree with you. Eden and William tore my heart out in those scenes. They were heart-wrenching and beautifully true. These young people can really shine when given the right material. GH is luck to have them and we, their fans, are lucky to be entertained by them. Bravo!

Josslyn was great in the breakup scene and if she is pregnant I encourage it. She is a strong woman who will her baby forever. I know she is a strong in real life and I know her future in real life will be one of the best. She is a great actress and great person

No. We do not need a teenage college sophomore becoming pregnant. Why on earth would you welcome that? Joss wants to go to Med school. Please, no more babies. Let us hope Joss and Rex used birth control.

I doubt they’re going to add another baby on the way to the canvas, especially when it looks like they’re setting up a traditional soap trope – a baby switch with the Quartermaine and Cassadine heirs. Ugh – more Weeping Willow ahead.

Especially not when there’s a very real possibility they could be brother & sister. Don’t even want to imagine a baby coming out of that scenario… it’s bad enough as it is.

There you go again. ABC standards and practices would never permit that to happen. They purged the show of anyone remotely connected to sexual assault. They’re not going to go down the incest route.

I was hoping they would never go there at all, of course. I just can’t see a point to the “Dex” character at all if he’s NOT a brainwashed Morgan Corinthos. It’s the best explanation for all of his other actions & associations, aside from banging Josslyn.

Hell, we know what Cody’s DNA test says, and he’s still a pointless character! And too dumb to be a Scorpio, in this Devil’s opinion.

Agreed that Mac deserves better than what we’ve seen from Cody so far. Any Scorpio offspring should be more dynamic.

Using Cody as an example, these writers are not afraid to ignore show history and shoehorn a birth into a mostly improbable slot in the past. Who knows how they’ll connect Dex – but Morgan ain’t the path.

Maybe Dex is the long-lost child of Lilly and Sonny? Yea- Sonny needs another kid! lol

Not a snowball’s chance in my backyard that they would undo the “clink boom” car bombing, one of the most iconic GH scenes of the 1990s. Also, they already had Sonny meet Lily in Heaven during a “near-death experience” and she verified that their son was with her upstairs.

Latest internet rumors have him being Courtney’s son (either with AJ or Jason). That would make him Spencer’s brother and Sonny’s nephew.

Zoey
I’ve been saying this for months. I’d read it somewhere and it made sense to me. Satan has been saying he thinks he’s Morgan but I don’t buy it, mostly I guess because I never liked Morgan and I do like this actor playing Dex. Too bad he’s being drawn into Drama Queen Joss’s life . Yea,yea I know, everyone loves her.

Such a beautiful young and talented actress

Heartbreaking

She has been excellent. Raw emotion. She has become a great actress.

Also her chemistry with Dex is amazing!!! They need to be together.

Yep – her chemistry with Dex is off the charts.

Say what you will about the characters, the actors are talented.

So… Evan Hofer – total hottie! I saw most of his background has been comedic acting.

Also love the Uber talented Kathy Gati.

She was only one word:. AMAZING.

Eden did an excellent job. Its a soap its suppose to be filled with mistakes, regrets and love. Her scene reminded me of the GH of old

All I can say is—Love, Love, Love Joss’ stilettos, albeit she has hurt Cameron so much—poor guy doesn’t even know the half of it.
Who is Dex? A medical doctor??

Top notch this week, Joss. Dex too. Actually, all were outstanding.

Just wish all stayed on….exits are sad.

Today was the “mostest” episode in a looong time. Everyone was spectacular, even Mathison, of whom I am not a fan.
Laura Wright was exceptionally authentic—every nuance, gesture and word was stellar and real– Kudos!!
The writers really knew what they were doing—they approached the developing suspense with true expertise—can’t wait for the climax to break ( Carly finally disclosing the truth to Nina)…..

Celia…Yes, to everything you said. Except I am a fan of Mathison. He finally broke out of the Mr.Nice mold and showed depth. I hope he dumps shrew Carly. Also the same to Nina, who I also like, was great. Even Wiley.

We do agree on Carly—too entitled, too holier-than-thou. But, as an actress, Laura is to be lauded.
I love Nina, as well, albeit we’re outnumbered—not many viewers like her.
—Mathison? Hmmm–not one of my favorites ( since he played Ryan Lavery-AMC), but I’m starting to warm up to him—the lovey-dovey scenes with Carly gross me out—especially because he is her third Quartermaine “bite”–
But, yes—Mathison, as Drew, showed a side of himself which stunned me in a good way.

Celia & Violet…Re: our feelings about Carly shouldn’t cloud the great job Laura does in this role. What I wonder is if actors who can play sob’s well know and read about how fans feel about their characters? Like Thomas. Do they read MF for instance?

I think they do, Rose–unless there may be some who truly get hurt by some of MY comments. In my defense, these sites would have no relevence if we were not able to express our likes or dislikes.
My personality and character? What you see is what you get. My mother is wont to tell me that sometimes I “hit” people in the face like a bucked of ice-water. LOL.

PS, Rose–And to add to that–I find myself muting or FF-ing scenes with “Mrs Robinson” and her daughter.

Oh Celia! What’d you think of the Nina reveal? I thought Cynthia was astounding! All those conflicting emotions and memories playing across her face at once..what a treat for us for having to wait so long. Now, there’s Willow’s insane reaction to come…next week should be good. BTW, did you see what they did to Y&R’s Noah’s gorgeous hair? He looks like a London punk in the early 80s grooving to The Sex Pistols…what a disaster!

OMG, Soaphound!!-when I saw Noah with that rat-fur atop his head, I thought of you and your reaction—I swear!! What is that???? Holy moly!! His scalp is so white, it’s almost scary–oh, please–flagellate me—!!
I don’t know if these half-shaved heads ( which I see too often) are meant to make a statement?—And, I thought the 50’s crew-cut, which both my grandfathers had ( in pictures) was harrowing—
My 16-year-old niece’s ( cheerleader with beauty and brains) boyfriend ( football player) has another weird hair cut, which is now the thing with High School boys. I swear that from a distance, and without my contacts/glasses, i thought he was wearing a baseball cap.
Yes, Nina was amazing—even with her little interaction with Wiley—I guess he and she must meet secretly off camera—who knew the three of them ( Sonny, Nina and Wiley were soooo close??).
Well, Carly will get hers from all sides, “You selfish bitch”!!!. Punto e basta!! ( A very popular Italian cliché after making a forceful statement). LOL.

rose
I like Drew too and it looks like he’s finally getting an eye full of the real Carly, I wondered about Wiley so excited to see Nina and especially Sonny. Don’t remember them even meeting as Michael wouldn’t even let Sonny near the boy, and Nina.only s few times with Willow dragging him away from her.

Drew knows exactly who Carly is. Remember he’s still walking around with Jason’s memories in his head, so he “remembers” everything that Jason & Carly went through over the years, all the stuff with AJ, walking in on the “hate sex” with Carly & Sonny, which started their roller coaster from Hell of a relationship. Drew knows all of that as if he lived through it himself.

That’s the thing – these writers are ignoring the Drew has Jason’s memories angle. Andre cleared Franco of Drew’s original memories but Drew still had Jason’s when Billy Miller departed the role.

A glaring continuity error that Elizabeth Korte should catch and point out in story occasionally.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

on

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
