There was a very intriguing tweet this afternoon from General Hospital‘s executive producer, Frank Valentini that said, “You won’t believe who’s showing up on Sunday at the #DaytimeEmmys on @PopTv. OMG…”

Meanwhile, word broke yesterday via a press release from NATAS and Pop that on the upcoming 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday night, April 26th, that two legends will reunite, but is that unrelated? That is the big question, but it certainly has people buzzing about it.  The 42nd Annual Daytime Emmys will be live on Pop from the Warner Brothers Studio lot historic Stage 16 beginning at 8PMET/5PMPST.

So, who do you think Valentini is referring to that will knock the socks off of daytime fans this Sunday?  Who do you hope the head honcho is referring to?  Share your thoughts below!

Could he be speaking of Genie Francis and Anthony Geary?

That was my first thought as well !

That was my immediate thought (and hope!)!

That’s what I thought!

Geez frank can you just produce some returns for your show gh

Most likely. …LUKE AND LAURA 🙂

Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser is my guess.

I only wish is was Jaqueline Courtney and George Reinholt, remembering another reunion and may they RIP.

I wish this was true those two are missed

Yes, they are missed and it’s a real travesty no one has snatched those two up.

Genie Francis? Jack Wagner(my guess with Kristina Wagner)? or John Stamos? Stuart Damon? The real Luke…lol

Yep, its Jack Wagner…!!!

me w’ong…lol

Maybe Jack Wagner drover her to the show. Yeah, thats it!

Whoever it is, he or she is appearing on the emmys…it doesnt exactly mean GH???

I was wrong too, Jim.
I really didn’t think Tony would agree to it and I do wish Genie would stop letting herself be used by TPTB –she deserves better than what they keep giving her time and time again.

Genie Francis returns to GH as Laura Spencer!

There isnt anyone that can knock my socks off. Genie returning to GH? That’s anout the only one id like to see.

Me, too!

I think Ron and Frank need to give Twitter a rest already, and focus 110% on trying to actually write and produce (respectively) coherent stories for GH. And if they’re unable to, then ABC needs to step in and make changes in at least one of those positions before it’s too late. I’m not a fan of the massive egos that these two guys seem to have and continually show off publicly in interviews and on social media.

I know someone that works pretty high up the chain at ABC, and they are very happy with how GH is doing these days. Particularly with how Frank is running the show, managing to bring in some big names, while also keeping the show on budget, which is one of the key things ABC cares about. And something that the previous regime at GH was not very good at doing. So don’t expect any changes anytime soon.

I believe you on that. I did not convey that I thought GH was in danger of cancellation. Yes, the ratings clearly seem to be respectable from what I’ve seen, and ABC obviously must be generating enough ad revenue to keep the show on the air. So, yes, Ron and Frank have done their jobs in that regard.

But even though enough people are tuning to the show, that doesn’t mean that the style of these two guys is every viewer’s cup of tea, particularly Ron’s writing with never-ending Fluke story.

Plus, Ron and Frank both just come across as rather egocentric and snooty to me, and need to be a lot more humble, IMO. They act like they are so far above the audience, and the peons (er, longtime fans of this show) are way down there. I don’t want the head writer and/or EP of a major soap to be continually drawing attention to themselves in public through tweets.

As a longtime viewer, I’m very happy with Frank and Ron too!

That may be true Steve, however, Chris is spot on when he says Ron and Frank need to back away from Twitter. Especially Ron who consistently shoots himself in the foot on Twitter time and time again.
Really, I get embarrassed for him after reading some of his sophomoric rants.

They are both doing a great job and Twitter is a huge way to reach fans and can be an excellent tool to reach fans and promote their product.

Since this team is incapable of winning an emmy for their handiwork (GH was the ONLY show NOT honored for its production…. NOT writing, NOT directing, NOT outstanding drama….. the ONLY one out of the four)

I’d say its understandable that FV and RC resort to Twitter. It’s cheap and it’s sensationalist – and its a far cry from letting their subpar work speak for itself.

I agree with you Chris.

I agree with you . I didn’t like the way one of them behaved towards Sean Kanan . Sean had every right to voice his disappointment with the writing of his character .

Completely agree with you, Nicholas, regarding Ron vs Sean Kanan. Completely immature and unprofessional of Ron. Had he handled it differently Sean might still be on the show.

I would love to see Luke & Laura together again! But I wouldn’t mind if Viki & Dorian show up together! lol

It would be great if it was Susan Lucci..

hmm
I’d have to guess=
….. Laura

via NATAS;
” that two legends will reunite”

It has be Luke and Laura .. So, Laura

That was my immediate thought, however, it’s hard to believe Tony Geary would agree to that.

It has to be Tony/Luke and Genie/Laura reunited.
Maybe they’ll present together.

@Harry with all due respect when did Geary start running the emmys? What is the deal with everybody would you like me to list the names of people who besides the almighty one who has contributed to daytime. Genie has been nothing but gracious towards ABC and the rest of the bunch she stared on GH at 14 yrs old she was thrown into major story she is a professional did it ever occur to anyone that she was quite happy playing Ceara on AMC/Loving then they wanted her back at GH she has always been given the short end of the stick she is a lovely person who deserved better! NEVER have I heard her say one unkind word about TG! When do women get some respect in this business??? Her mantle should be covered with tons of emmys!

Substitute–you are singing to the choir.
I have loved and respected Tony Geary for over thirty years but yes, I too, am tired of the spoiled Diva routine. Everything seems to be predicated upon what Geary wants–he is a part time actor who makes more money than the full time actors and goes takes three to four month sabbaticals a year.
And yes, again–Genie has been gracious and classy. They have continually asked her to drop everything to come back to help finish a story usually having to do with Luke. So they dust off Laura use her for a month or so and then put her back in storage. Her last exit was the worst example of an incomplete sentence I have ever seen,

I would love to see Genie Francis back on GH full time…and agree that her last run was a huge disappointment and a letdown when she was ushered off, once again, so quickly. However, I don’t think any daytime actor is doing the writers, producers, etc a favor if they agree to return, no matter for how long a run. If the actor needs/ wants the work, they’ll do it. Can’t say I blame them..it’s a paycheck and they love their craft. Win/win.

Genie Francis alongside Tony Geary announcing her return to General Hospital on contract

Yeah! (Can you tell I’m a big fan?!)

We can only hope!

I only want Laura back if she ignores Ole Luke. I don’t want her with the Pillsbury Dough man either.
Laura is too good for both Luke and Scotty. Let her come back and finish her story without either of those two aforementioned dummies.

Since we don’t get POP from any of the cable companies here I don’t really care who is showing up or who wins. If they can’t get it on a decent channel, why bother?

I can’t get POP either. Don’t know why they can’t air in on a more popular network!

Can’t you watch it online?

Like CBS or ABC since they have the soaps and many other nominated shows!

POP is just the TV Guide channel renamed.. I thought all the cable companies had the TV Guide channel, even the basic packages. Who knows, you may have it and not realize ! 🙂

Kacey, I have Time Warner and POP is on channel 230. Hope you can find it too.

I agree never heard of pop we don’t have it either.

No POP in my area.

I’ve been trying to find out if they will re-play the show online the next day, but haven’t heard anything yet.

Does anyone out there know?

Since Valentini is saying it, have to think the legends are from GH. So…Genie Francis/Laura and Tony Geary/Luke. Possibly Kimberly/Robin. Her name was mentioned on GH a couple of days ago. I wondered then if it was a teaser, that she might be surfacing again.

Speaking of Robin…I realized while I was watching Patrick and Sam together the other day that I actually like Patrick with Sam better than with Robin.

I’m not a big Robin fan since she became an adult. Liked her best when she hung out with Jason and Stone. Now she seems so serious and sometimes a little holier than thou. I do prefer Patrick better with Sam, but liked the chemistry between him and Elizabeth best if the writers had gone that way. Just seemed more natural. Sam and Jason, Steve Burton version, worked for me, too. This will sound strange, but maybe it was partly because they both have the same low key acting style. You would think just the opposite.

I know it won’t be but it would. Be wonderful if it was Stuart Damon and Leslie Charleson! Won’t be watching going to be gone that weekend fishin with hubby!

hoping it’s Genie !

could it be Genie Francis aka Laura Webber Spencer?or it could be Erika Slezak as well as Susan Lucci Victoria Lord Davidson Buchanan and Erica Montgomery Kane… Because we have not seen those 3 legends in a long time, especially Genie.there’s a Facebook page about bringing her back to television as Laura Spencer.but if it’s Susan and Erica please let it be because Susan Lucci as Erica Kane finally won her first award!who do you all think it is? any guesses suggestions?

I bet it’s Tony Geary and Genie Francis.

BINGO!

Obama or Clinton ? I have no idea . It would knock my socks off , especially if we learn they used to watch soaps when they were younger or still watch soaps . Heard the Reagans were big fans of the late soap opera ” Santa Barbara ” . Don’t know if this is true or not .

I would riddle my TV full of bullet holes!

Maybe the Reagans were fans of ‘Santa Barbara’ because former Broadway and movie star Dame Judith Anderson was a castmember of SB in addition to living in the real Santa Barbara where the Reagans had a vacation home.

I hope its Robin Strasser and Erika Slezak, that would be wonderful.

I miss them!

what channel is the Daytime emmys on pop channel what is that I have century link

I have charter–extended–and it’s on channel 99–if that helps–and I’m in NC.

Well if its Genie Francis WHO CARES. Sooooo Over Luke & well Laura please we don’t need her back!!! and it hasn’t been that long so it’s not that exciting if it is Genie

Um, Rod?
Oh nevermind, I don’t have the energy.

You must be someone who started watching after, what 2009?

Why does anyone care about anything Frank Valentini tweets or says? Yawn

Cause we are GH fans, duh!

I hope it is Genie and Tony.

I thought it would be them, now–
It will not be Tony Geary and Genie Francis, nope..
And- it is not necessarily anyone from GH..
I don’t know who the reunited couple be just that it will not be Luke and Laura..

I do not get POP network with Comcast, but looking forward to read/see who it is..

Rumor is it’s Maeve and Deliah straight from Ryan’s Bar…
seriously as previously noted, I wish it were Viki and Dorian
but I do agree, that Ms. Francis will show up…

I have feeling robin and brenda

I hope it is Jax and Brenda. I haven’t seen them in a while.

WHY DONT THESE PEOPLE ATTEMPT TO GET THE AWARDS SHOW ON A REAL NETWORK???? WHO CARES WHO IS THERE IF YOU CANT SEE IT?

I would really love to see Jax and Brenda at the Daytime Emmys. They were always one of my favorite couples. Reuniting Luke and Laura would be nice also. Jonathan Jackson who played their son Lucky should be there too.

let’s hope it is the daytime programmer from ABC announcing the return of ONE LIFE TO LIVE !

I think it will be Genie Francis. Maybe she signed on to be back at GH? Not as we remember her, though. Something is quite different about her and lets just say she is not the sweet little innocent girl we once knew. She wants revenge! Ladies and Gentlemen meet “FLAURA!”

Laura has been back to GH several times. That’s hardly worth and “OMG”

Like a lot of you, I would love it to be Genie Francis, but I’ve been burned so many times by GH/ABC over Genie. We can hope things would change. IMO, the focus of GH over the years should have been on Genie’s Laura, not the hard to watch downfall of Luke Spencer.

Aren’t they having that competition with viewers voting who they want back during the nurses ball? So it could be Stephen Nichols but I think genie Francis would be great too, and we also need Kimberly to return to finally get this Jason reveal over with, they are taking to long with everything, he should of already been hooking up with Liz, have more memory flashes and bonding with other people then the overplayed Carly.

All we have ever wanted is Luke and Laura forever. It’s about time to bring Genie Home. Everyone loves her! Her smiles lights up a room like no other.

While we are at it, let’s get those rights back to OLTL. John is looking like a cadaver on GH. He needs his Natalie and the LAPD. Our afternoons are lifeless with out OLTL.

I have two guesses. Felicia and Frisco or Erica and Jack, the first one is probably more likely but I would love it if it was the second one.

Its Rula Lenska…lol

Well none of these soapstars you guys are naming are worth an OMG in my books. To me an OMG would be a big name celebrity or politician– we don’t even know if the OMG tweet and the two legends reuniting are the same thing. If not, then I can see how the two legends could be Genie and Tony– but seeing them together isn’t an OMG moment. Anyway since the show isn’t being aired in Canada, I’ve searched and can’t find a Canadian carrier– I guess I will have to wait for recaps on line.

Honestly…if it is Tony and Genie……what a slap in the face and an insult to fans and to Genie. She was completely left out of the Fluke storyline when she should have the emotional epicentre of it as the one who humanized Luke and kept his dark alter ego in check for decades. This regime trashed the love story that defined the genre and made history. For them to have no use for the character or actress and then to trot her out for special occasions for publicity sake is just crass. I really don’t think it’s them but hope it isn’t. It would be mildly nauseating to see Tony do his doe-eyed fake declaration of happiness at seeing Genie onstage. He has made it abundantly clear that the Luke fans loved and the Luke that Laura loved is something he abhors and pretty much refuses to play. I have no idea who head two mystery guests are but really….30 second reunions between aging soap stars does not make me run for my remote. Lol.

And furthermore….I think Frank Valentini is a little…um….long in the tooth to be typing things like OMG. That’s kind of for the Taylor Swift crowd, no?

Love your post, Aden, and your OMG comment make me LOL, er, I mean laugh out loud.
You know what I do not understand?
Why do people SAY OMG instead of just saying, “Oh my God.”
I get it if it’s in writing but saying it aloud?
Either way, it’s three syllables !!!

It’s been announced that it is indeed tony and genie, as to why, I’m not sure, as far as I know the pop network is not owned by Disney/ abc, the 50th anniversary already passed and I haven’t heard about genie returning to GH, what really annoys me is FV tweeting bout their appearance like he had something to do with it. His regime has been just as awful in the way they treat genie as the previous regime. Who says Luke and Laura have to be on screen together? I’m all for them having separate stories.

It would be nice to see daytime out in force for their awards show and this year (finally!) it seems they have an award show they can be proud of! Am curious about this legends announcement. Bring as many in as possible, I say. Daytime drama is alive and well. It need not be daytime anymore, but could stream anytime. And cable can pick up the ball here, too. We love our soaps!! Eager for Sunday evening’s festivities.

Hay Frank , if its Genie why the hell would you care ?

So FV tweets ” you won’t believe who’s showing up at the daytime Emmy omg”… fans answer, genie Francis the actress you and abc won’t bring back! So stop brown nosing actions speak louder then your lame tweets!!!

Tony Geary’s reel was probably the best and if he wins tonight can we all just say ok and never let him submit again! I think we call it overkill! And if Y &R wins best show shame on JFP for exploiting the backstage drama Mm who I am not a super fan won that award for them no matter what you think about the backsta

Did not finish and that is okay!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

on

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
