On-Air On-Soaps has been for the last two years giving credit where credit is due, because no matter who tells you different, daytime soap opera has some of the most phenomenal performers working in television, not to mention the hardest working.

And again this week, we are giving the Power Performances of the Week honors to General Hospital’s Finola Hughes (Anna) and Jason Thompson (Patrick) for their heart-wrenching emotional scenes, following Robin’s funeral, where Anna lets Patrick have it after finding out that he cheated on Robin with Lisa Niles!

Courtesy/ABC

With Finola Hughes driving the scene, with amazing dialog and an even more stunning delivery, and Thompson’s Patrick being assaulted by Robin’s mother’s words, it was yet another classic scene by this duo.  And as a mother trying to deal with the fact that Robin never came to her when her marriage was falling apart, Finola Hughes had to cope and try to come to terms with the gripping realization that her beloved daughter never told her something so important.

The entire week of episodes however did belong to Hughes, as later she proceeds to drown her sorrows at Jake’s (now “The Floating Rib”).  Anna’s scenes with Tony Geary (Luke) were also filled with poignancy, as Luke tries to make her take look at why she is really upset, and in the process reveals, that he killed a little boy in a hit-and run, on the anniversary of little Jake’s death.   We would also give Geary honorable mention this week for these scenes.  But then again, when is Geary not good?

Also doing some touching work this week was Jen Lilley (Maxie) tried to convince everyone she is a murderer, and Steve Burton (Jason) and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth) when the two remembered and grieved for Robin and their son, Jake, at the bridge.

Jason Thompson also had some nice moments with the returning Rick Springfield (Noah), that were nicely understated between father and son.

Now below watch the amazing Power Performances of the Week clip between Finola Hughes and Jason Thompson which begins at 3:56 into the clip, after the set-up where Maxie inadvertently spills the bean about Patrick’s indiscretion, and then let us know your thoughts!

Can I ask what are your thoughts of Maxie and her ‘break down’ at the funeral? I see her being bashed on some blogs, and that is bothersome to me. Curious how you all feel..

Also Michael..heard a rumor ..can you confirm? Rick Herbst is returning to GH?

I like jen lilley alot ,that poor girl does get put down,Alot ,go to her facebook page and tell her you like the work she is doing on g h,she really feels bad,I leave a post for her now and then ,she is really sweet.I also heard a rumor that rick herbst may be returning ,that would be nice.He is another character that was let go and I never understood why.

I love Jen Lilley. She’s doing a fantastic job. Maxie isn’t a easy role to step into. She shouldn’t be bashed.

I heard the RH rumor as well as another character from AMC. I didn’t watch AMC. RH would be a dream come true. Great actor. Could you see him & Molly going at it together?? lol
Jen is doing a great job, a blog I go to rips on her because they feel she ruined Robin’s funeral. I feel she had a melt down and it wasn’t the worse thing!!!!!!!

Debi,I would love to see Rick and Molly going at it together wouldnt they be a cute father and daughter?. about Jen lilly It wasnt just robins funeral, she was getting hell months ago for taking over k s part as maxi.I wrote her a few posts telling her I thought she was doing a beautiful job taking over,She liked what I said.People were really mad at her ,It is sad that there are people out there that would hurt someone with words like they did to her. like its her fault that ks is gone.Sad.I also told her that if k s comes back ron and frank should find a place for her in port charles, shes earned it and I want her to stay.

BarbT She is a great actress. Nobody can take that from her. I just don’t think her having a ‘melt down’ at a funeral deserves to be bashed like it is. People ‘melt’ at funerals!! Did she say she was staying in this role?? She nor Maxie are on opening credits.

Ric is such a great actor. I think imo that they are waiting to see if they are getting renewed before they make committments to other actors. Don’t you?

Anna scenes with Patrick were so good. Finola Hughes is an incredible actress!

wow, finola is at her A game… she’s SO good. jason thompson is doing a fantastic job as well. i feel not enough credit is going to the departed kimberly mccullough. everyone who acts opposite kimber is flawless — and clearly she inspires the kind of emotion that produces these powerhouse performances. kimberly is first and foremost the amazing actress in this storyline — or rather, in her whole run on GH and Nightshift. i really hope we see more of her — and her interactions with triston, finola and jason.

All I can say is that GH better be smart and quickly sign Finola Hughes to a contract because she is a keeper!!! She has been simply amazing since her return, no matter who she’s had scene’s with she’s made the screen light up. Congratulations to Finola Hughes and Jason Thomas who has also been outstanding through out this storyline, they truly are power house performers.

Tina, I agree and in fact have stated here that they should put finola Hughes on contract, she simply rocks.

Debi, I see the same thing also about Ms. Lilley’s portrayal of Maxie personally I think she is doing a good job and it is not her fault Ms. Storms could not continue in the role, for the record Ms. Storms was a recast also. I think it is wishful thinking about Rick Hearst but we should know Monday when they are announcing casting news!

Oh forgot to add good choices Thompson is hitting it out of the ballpark.

I thought Anna with Luke was amazing!

Oh me too! Just the scenes of them sitting together at Jake’s & talking about old times & today’s current sad times-just two old friends catching up-that to me was SO OLTL if anyone knows what I mean. Connections! History! Just real soap scenes. Loved it.

Anna and Blair together would be interesting!

i always think luke is flawless, but in his scenes with anna i thought finola hughes was the better actress. tony geary underplayed too much… he seemed barely affected 🙁

Finola huges is one of the best actresses going ,She stands out in every scene she is in,I hope that she stays with general hospital,I heard anna say last week she would like to stay to be close to her grand daughter I hope that means she is ,The scenes with her and jason thompson are so touching ,also with anothony geary. So finola huges once again proves shes a winner and I would love to hear that she will continue to have many adventures in port charles.

Watching YOUTUBE At first I didnt see it AT ALL because she seemed to thrown in.
I find myself feeling for Luke more then Patrick, though he pain is felt.
Luke, Tony Geary’s pain is more. But Geary makes whatever scene work, I think.

Ah… my prediction last week is a reality! After that scene of their argument about his cheating on Robin, I figured they get performance of the week a 3rd time! Hope that ABCD is taking note!

Finola Hughes is a FORCE!!!

Anna should the new “Erica” or “Viki” of GH.

Anna can just be the heroin she always was as Anna!

i co-sign this…………..

Any day where Finola Hughes is on, is a GREAT GH day!

Agree again Michael!!! Finola was fantastic in every scene, but especially with Jason T and Tony G! If she doesn’t get a contract… I hope it is just because she does not want to commit. Steve B and Becky H were great too! I am agreeing with everyone on Jen Lilly… she is taking a hard role and doing very well with it… I just wish Kirsten S was back in the role because there is something she does with that role that just makes you love her even when she is not so loveable. Finola and Jason T deserve the kudos!!! Great performances and again so glad to see the right emotion and time and attention to Robin’s death played out! Thanks everyone at GH for a great week!!!

Finola Hughes is the best thing to happen to GH! She is such a fierce, soulful performer -impossible not be drawn in by her.

I thought the scenes with Tony Geary and Finola Hughes were amazing, old -school, soap opera drama. They had genuine compassion for one another…their lines were deep, full of passion and a genuine friendship between the characters

What was great about all the scene with Robin passing are the flash backs seeing Robert, Anna and Robin when they were young. Also the scene with Jason and Robin. I like when a character who been on the show for a long time and they can show the flash backs with the original characters. GH stars are wonderful actors.

finola hughes and jason thompson prove that GH needs to get away from its mob obsession. they are the true soul of GH now and hopefully in future!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
