GH's Head Scribe Ron Carlivati Previews The Return of Ian Buchanan as Duke Lavery!

Next week, General Hospital finally kicks-off the tale of the shocking return of Duke Lavery played by Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Ian Buchanan. After being seen at the end of one episode on August 27th, which hinted that it may be Duke who is behind the snatching of the beloved Dr. Robin Scorpio Drake (Kimberly McCullough), Buchanan is back on-screen as the story begins to unravel on how on earth Duke is alive, why he could be the one behind Robin’s kidnapping, and a rekindling of the Anna/Duke romance. But is Duke … a good Duke or a bad Duke?
In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, General Hospital’s head writer, Ron Carlivati teases and previews Buchanan’s return and key scenes that fans don’t want to miss! Ron revealed, “In thinking about who had Robin, there’s sort of your go-to villains from General Hospital’s past who you might think kidnapped her. I saw a lot of speculation online about Faison and Helena. We wanted something unexpected and something that would give us the most story. Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) and I talked a lot about it and came up with Duke Lavery, and we knew that Ian Buchanan was exiting Days of our Lives. We did manage to sneak in one appearance and then we paused to work on the story and explain just why in the world would our beloved Duke Lavery keep Robin from Anna Devane.”
Carlivati went on to say about explaining where Duke has been for 22 years, “The audience will find out as Anna finds out.” Fans can look forward to the moment when Anna and Duke come face to face, Luke to re-enter the picture, and the entire mystery to unravel. As Carlivati puts it, “It’s got a love triangle, it’s got a mysterious return, and it’s got the mystery of Robin in the mix, as well. It’s a very big story!”

General Hospital’s John J. York On His Health Battle & Living Life While Waiting for Bone Marrow Transplant: “Let’s Just Go One Day At a Time”
John J. York’s positive outlook on his current medical diagnosis is quite remarkable, as his approach might be one many facing the same circumstances might consider. The beloved General Hospital vet, where he has played Mac Scorpio for 32 years, revealed last week that he is battling cancer.
The popular soap star shared that he has been fighting myelodysplastic syndromes, or MDS, and multiple smoldering myeloma: two blood and bone marrow disorders.
York spoke with PEOPLE about how he found out about his diagnosis, the support his wife Vicki has shown throughout, and how he lives life day to day, while he waits for an all-important bone marrow transplant.

The actor shared what happened the moment he learned of his diagnosis: “(The doctor) was explaining all these different things and cells and all different levels and words that had, you know, 25 letters in them. And I didn’t understand. And Vicki finally came out and said, ‘Does John have cancer?’ And he said, ‘Yes.’ And I’m sitting there, I’m really just like a fly on the wall, listening to him talk to Vicki because she was the one asking all the questions. At the end of his doctor’s conversation with Vicki, York’s one question was simple: ‘Why do I feel so good?’”
Vicki and John were in the process of moving to Tennessee to be closer to their daughter, Skyler, but considering UCLA in Los Angeles as John’s treatment center. In the end, Skyler’s husband suggested Vanderbilt University for John’s cancer center so he did not have to travel back and forth to the west coast.
Since March of this year, John has had IV chemo treatments every month, with another one coming up in September. On that, John expressed: “It is what it’s, you know what I mean? And then everybody’s gotta get their treatment. And then you go home, go about your life and you play with the kids. And here we are.”
Currently, York is waiting for a bone marrow transplant. He has been moved up the donor priority list. If anyone is interested, and you are between 18-40, you can join the registry here bethematch.org/matchformac.

York shared how Vicki is coping with what’s ahead: “Yeah, she’s scared, but believe it or not, I really kinda wasn’t because I feel great. Personally, I feel like it’s in God’s hands. God’s will be done. It’s gonna work out okay, one way or another. I’m either gonna survive or I’m not. And life goes on and things are gonna be okay for everybody… Let’s just go one day at a time.”

Billy Miller’s Mother Issues Statement On His Passing
Patricia Miller, the mother of the late Billy Miller, has come forward and issued a touching statement on the tragic death of her beloved son at age 43. The statement was shared by Billy’s longtime manager, Marnie Sparer, via social media.
Billy was best-known for his performances as Richie Nowack on All My Children, Billy Abbott of The Young and the Restless and Jason Morgan/Drew Cain on General Hospital, as well as countless primetime roles. Throughout his career, Miller took home three Daytime Emmys for his work.
“I would like to share the following thoughts,” Patricia began. “I want to personally thank the many fans & personal friends for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers & condolences sent to me and my family on the devastating death of my beautiful son BJ – Billy Miller.”

Patricia continued with these sentiments, as she wanted to clear up any misinterpretations on this death: “He fought a long hard valiant battle with bipolar depression for years. He did everything he could to control the disease. He loved his family, his friends and his fans but in the end the disease won the fight and he surrendered his life. The other causes of death being told are not true. I wish they were but they just aren’t. We all loved him so much and are desperately trying to deal with our loss. I will have nothing further to say. Thanks for the love and support.”
The soap world as well as Billy’s family, friends, loved ones, and colleagues are in deep mourning for this talented man, who was gone too soon.

Billy Miller Remembered by His GH and Y&R Co-Stars As They Share Grief on His Passing
UPDATED: On Sunday, longtime friends and co-stars of actor Billy Miller took to social media to share their remembrances and sorrow on the passing of the three-time Daytime Emmy-winning star.
Miller passed away on Friday, September 15th as first reported and confirmed by Michael Fairman TV. While the official cause of death has not been revealed, it has been related to the press by his management that Billy was suffering from manic depression.
Billy played Jason Morgan/Drew Cain on General Hospital from 2014-2019, and prior to that won 3 Daytime Emmys for his role as Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless from 2008-2014. He started his soap career on All My Children in the role of Richie Novack back in 2007-2008.

So excited for Duke’s return, but that better be the shortest-lived triangle in the history of triangles! I mean, come on, this is Duke and Anna we’re talking about. Luke can take a walk. Anyway, yayyyyyy for Duke!!!!!!
Anna and Duke are the most popular GH supercouple after Luke and Laura. That kind of chemistry comes along once or twice in lifetime between actors. Duke did have a dark side, but the glamour & the sheer charisma between Ian and Finola became Gloria Monty’s passion and she gave them the room to make it special. Gloria envisioned Duke in the mould of Monty Clift and Ian just captured that spectacularly. Even the greatest movie star in Hollywood history, Greta Garbo, living out her final years in solitude was absolutely adoring of Anna and Duke on GH – you see, what occured between those actors harkened back to the great passion between Garbo and Gilbert. It was true Hollywood MAGIC.
The most powerful GH couple outside of Luke and Laura are Sonny and Brenda, AND and that goes for Daytime at large. Those two set the screen on fire. That is why Venessa Marcils return was met with such fan fare and the marketing that was spent on advertising to promoteh her return. They/ ABC wouldn’t do that for any soap star unless they had the FAN BASE behind it. Remember, ABC even ran ole clips OR shows on before Venessa’s return, and Soapnet ran a maronthone for a month. No one did anythng GRAND for Genie Frances first return to GH, or none there-after. It can also be argued that Sonny and Brenda was AS POPULAR as Luke an Laura. Yes, Luke and Laura had that ratings buster for their wedding, and they were KNOWN and loved for their adventure, BUT Sonny and Brenda set the screen on fire. They were known for passion. lust, adventure, BEAUTY, romance and dangerand YOUTH. Men and women of ALL ages tuned in to see these two BEAUTIFUL people who were so believable as a couple. Just because the writing on GH (when Venessa returned) was a disaster, and didn’t capitalize on thee Sonny and Brenda as we knew them, doesn’t NEGATE the power that this couple has. Sonny and Brenda are as popular as Luke and Laura.
Go General Hopsital and (1970’s casting) and MARK TESCHNER for having the VISION to see the talent in Genie, Anthony, Maurice and Venessa- for “one show” to be able to turn out NOT one Super Couple of ALL TIME but TWO..! My knod goes to the casting of these ” Great ” talents., which is a talent in and of itself with the casting.
Obviously, you weren’t around in the late 80s. Brenda and Sonny are irrelevant next to Duke and Anna. They were Gloria Monty’s brainchild and they were iconic to the show. Don’t turn this into a war of the fanbases because you will lose. You’re stanning for two characters with little substance – a shrieking harpy and a belligerent mobster. Next to Anna and Duke, they are utterly outclassed.
I stop comparing Sonny and Brenda to Luke and Laura years ago. Sonny got more deeper into the mob and Brenda was put in danger, while Luke got out of the Mob for Laura to keep her out of danger.
what was that rant about?? Loved Anna with any of her partners, Robert, Duke and Luke. This should be an interesting storyline, much better then that last Jerry Jax fiasco!

I stated my case and stated the FACTS. I was around in the 80’s and although Anna and Duke were popular, they were NOT as popular as Sonny and Brenda. This isn’t based on the my being a fan, but on the FACTS. There are people from other shows who have no idea who Anna and Duke are, but they know who Sonny and Brenda is, regardless of their show. For me, it’s NOT about WHO the winner is of a fanbase (as U said) I will lose. Its’s about the FACTS regardless of how much I want to be right, or if wrong. My position is based on what I had read that has been reproted over the years in ALL media, soap opera and other. Obviously, U are not someone who is familiar with me on this site, otherwise U would know, even when I want to agree, I won’t….. BASED on the FACTS. And so here they are:

I’ve watched SOAPS for 50 yrs., & I think Jason & Sam r the best couple ever! Luke & Laura had a nice big wedding, big deal! If Steve Burton didn’t leave, it would’ve been JaSam Forever<3! They would b another Edward & Lila, except for all Edwards kids from other women! Wish Rick & Leslie Webber were still on the show!
Rick and Lesley Webber were the precursor to supercouple, and Denise Alexander was and is such a superb actress, thanks for referencing them. It sucks that they assassinated the character of Rick when he returned. And it was a waste that the character of Jeff Webber or maybe even sister, Terri Webber have never been brought back. Maybe Terri could come back and have a hostile takeover of the Floating Rib.

I am tickled pink with the “new” GH, the one that has been bringing back past favorites and showing respect to history. Like said I above, I too had my bets on Helena or Faison or both teaming up to kidnap Robin so imagine my surprise of Duke being behind it. I did though know of Ian Buchanan exiting DOOL, so when I saw him on screen, after the initial shock it all made sense. Now for the story itself-I am eager to see what unfolds and how the roads lead to Robin being returned to her family and what Duke and Anna’s story will be as a result.
Another plus to this it will hopefully end the disasterous Luke/Anna romance dead in its tracks. They work well together on capers and comedy but romance, no way!
But I don’t see Luke lonely nor do I want him back with Tracy (another romance I never liked)-my prediction is FV is courting Genie Francis as I type this to woo her back to GH now that Y&R was dumb enough to ditch her. I get the impression with Genie that it not about salary but about Laura herself. She dated on Oprah in 2011 that to resume playing Laura, she wanted the character to have grown, be more self sufficent and no longer a victim. ITA with this so how about we bring Laura back from Europe and discover she is now a savvy business woman? Maybe she can become a fashion or cosmetics mogul or want to start her own magazine. Let her give Kate a run for her money in that department.
Hell better yet get rid of Kate-she wore out the welcome mat ages ago for me and I am sick of her DID story taking airtime from other stories I would rather see unfold.
And on a topic not brought up in your article above, let me just say I can’t wait to see Sean Kenan back on GH in whatever role he plays. The rumor mills are swirling of A.J. back from the dead to new character to recast Jason-whatever role he is in I will love it. He is sexy, talented and will be electric onscreen no doubt in my mind!
So the prognosis for GH is healthy and strong-way better than it was during the Guza/Frons era and I am hoping it keeps thriving long after its 50th anniversary!
Glad to see Duke & Anna back! Luke and Anna don’t have a lot of romantic history tho’ – don’t see much sense in a triangle unless Robert came back!

I can’t wait to watch this story unfold! Duke and Anna together again will be amazing!!! And the mystery of why Duke has Robin – I will be on the edge of my seat. As far as a triangle by adding Luke? I love Luke, but in this scenario I would much much rather see Robert in that triangle! I love Duke, Anna and Robert together! Luke and Anna as more than old friends and caper buddies has felt a bit off to me. I really reallllly hope they bring Tristan Rogers (Robert) back to really fill out this triangle! He has always been a favorite of mine and I would love to see him stick around for awhile!

I love what RC & FV have done with GH…BUT! Ian Bucanan looks really creepy now..I couldn’t wait for him to not be on DOL anymore..had started watching when AMC & OLTL were cancelled..maybe he could have some work done or something..he creeps me out now..I know he is older(then again so am I!) but so is Tristan Rogers..& he still looks good..he has aged gracefully..not sure if I am ready for a romance between Anna & Duke???
You know I kind of thought the same thing. Yes, we are all getting older but . . I really got creeped out by Ian when he was on Days. Such an AWFUL character, I think that worked on me & now I can’t get into him & really don’t rem. much about him & Anna back in the day. I did switch over to CBS soaps during the 90s so I am not clear on their history except didn’t he used to wear kilts or something? I don’t think I really liked him, always loved Anna w/Robert & I for one, really liked Anna w/Luke!

OMG how can I thank Ron and Frank for the happiness they have brought to my life. I was a very dark day when I lost the 2 shows I have watched for over 43 years. Now I can hardly wait everyday to see what is going to happen on GH. This is beyond doubt the best show on ABC or for that matter on every network. Thanks for the fun.
Agree with you 100%. Somehow, this “revamped” GH fills a little of the awful void from the loss of AMC & OLTL. I cannot wait for GH every day, still getting used to the new time, don’t like it but I’d take it any time I could get it. LOVE GH.

Guess I’m the only one here who was enjoying Anna and Luke. I’m looking forward to seeing the story play out, but I wasn’t that big of a fan of Duke. Loving GH even more these days though, and hope Laura returns also.
Agree, Gayle. I really liked Anna & Luke & was hoping they could work it out. And I was not a big Duke fan either but I sure love GH & a Laura return would be fine with me. I also actually really enjoyed the character of Genevieve on Y&R. Thought Genie did a great job & should have had a better outcome-so much possibility there.
Let me get this right: Duke has to explain to Anna why he’s been gone for 23+ years and why he has Robin, yet that’s not enough angst for the this SuperCouple? No triangle necessary and with all due respect to Luke, it’s clear that his short term friendship (they only briefly spent time together in 2008 before February) and split second roll in the hay with the Police Commish (which I found supremely lacking in sexual chemistry) is not enough to warrant her to look at him twice after she sees Duke again. (I predict it will be a non-triangle from the get go) The Montys matched Duke & Anna up perfectly with their flaws, sense of ethics, dark pasts, chemistry, beauty, etc. We want to see angst, yes, but there is plenty built-in. I predict this will be a case where Duke simply did not die, the second Duke was an imposter, and Duke is fiercely protecting Robin from another enemy yet to be revealed. I haven’t been this excited in 23 years with the Return of Duke, Robin (that’s coming, right?) and even a resurgence by the Qs. But ultimately, it’s Duke & Anna’s romance that draws me back in every time. Tango anyone?
Don’t forget, Anna was also presumed dead for 10+ years? Until the Alex/Anna thing on AMC.
While it may be wonderful to see some interest in Duke’s return story, it would be much more appreciated by many GH fans if Mr.Carlivati could focus more on keeping the GH characters ‘in’ character and true to their on screen histories so that what we watch actually makes sense. Ex: for the past 10 rs Sonny & Carly have been in each other’s lives, whether together or not, yet now suddenly they barely know each other, or speak, even about their children, one of which is off in school and just as suddenly Alexis has become Sonny’s new best friend. Kate, who barely existed before is now suddenly the most important character in PC and most every other character’s stories seem to offshoot off of her. She surely won the lottery on this show and now emmy winners, male and female, play second fiddle to her and she just isn’t important to most GH fans. Lastly, GH, best known for it’s dramatic storylines is now becoming a joke where the only thing we can expect is a campy, shallow story where shirtless men and humor (in all the wrong places) has replaced the dramatic and tear jerking stories that GH has always been known for. Oh how the might GH has fallen.
Damn Trisha: You pointed out ‘ many a things ‘ I noticed, but thought maybe I was pre-judging the situation, based on 2 to 3 day viewership (I leave my tv on for ratings, rather I’m watching or not). I have noticed weeks now, that Carly hasn’t been in the spacae of Sonny as normal. It’s nice to see them not so involved in one anothers lives, but they’ve become almost strangers. And Kate, my God, she is all over the place- this is the second coming of Vicky/Nicki Buchanan on GH. However, I don’t agree that GH is producing ” campy, shallow stories-w/shirtless men ” . GH is high drama and the stories are moving faster along, not like what they put Johnathan Jackson through (causing a GREAT TALENT) to QUITE. Hours of dialoge ABOUT NOTHING, in Ireland seeing Ghost writings in rocks. Then the next day, ” us ” the viewer tune in, and Lucky is recanting yesterdays show, telling, Siobhan (his wife) his sister, his father Luke – OMG, it was murderous. In this way, stories are not drawn out as before.
Trisha I agree this kate/connie story is just overkill. I grew tired of the jess/tess and yes nikki/vicki and I did not watch with duke&anna by the way robert was never weak enough to jump off a bridge just stupid they do not know the characters and i noticed they GH are losing viewers again.
I had not watched the show in quite a while,then I heard JJ was returning.So dumb as I am,I returned.I agree with you they destroyed Lucky. First Liz,then Lucky. I liked Siobhan.then they killed her,not only killed her,but did it in such a way,I was appalled. when Johnny shot his father I was cheering.
I am not even curious anymore how the stories will turn out . TPTB are not interested in talent. The two leading men,one stares into space like he doesn’t know how to engage his brain if he doesn’t have a gun in his hand, and the other one mumbles so badly.without the cc I have no idea what he says,Not that I am interested anyway.
I am sick of being such a debby downer but lately the show is boring me. When it isn’t just making me shake my head in disbelief at the way they are turning the characters I do like into murderers.I did like Todd t first,but he actually gave a baby away. Johnny has been turned into a murderer. Albeit I think he should have gotten a medal for it. And putting him with carley YUCK. She makes me sick.

@Trisha I agree with you about the character’s relationships being ignored/changed. But espcially agree about the shallow storylines. It seems that nothing is supposed to be taken seriously on GH anymore. Not rape, mental illness, baby switches, etc., all being treated as a joke. I also agree with Janet’s assessment about being bored. I’m bored for different reasons, but bored all the same.
I “m not bored with GH stories …………..I have been watching GH since OLTL was cancelled. I like GH now than a few years ago… When all those mobster/gangster stories were going on.. That’s one of the main reasons I stopped watching….But now I like watching GH now & will continue to watch…It’s a soap opera & made up stories and for entertainment…
i cut my soap teeth on duke and anna back in the day! i cannot believe i get to see them again…they were THE BEST. finola hughes and ian buchanan were magic together. they are bringing me back to GH. i cannot wait for monday and beyond!

I’m so excited for Duke’s return. He and Anna are made for each other. As for Luke, he is great with Tracy but I would really like to see Laura come back, not as a victim but with an edge this time around. Luke and Laura, the original super couple. Add them to the Duke/Anna adventure.
I wasn’t watching GH when Duke was on, so no history there. I really only know Ian Buchanan from his short stints on AMC and DOOL…neither of which characters I liked. So, I hope I can start liking him as Duke, but that one scene back in August doesn’t bode well for that. He still looked like a scumbag!

I agree, although I don’t give RC all the blame for OLTL being cancelled. Just like I don’t blame Guza for everything that happened to GH, especially the actors that were let go and that he had to write out! I am a fan of Guza’s writing for GH, so I didn’t tune out during the last decade or so like some did. I liked different aspects of every GH writer over the past four decades, except for RC.
I was never a duke fan,Except when Greg Beecroft played him,and they killed him off then.
I know exactly why Duke has Robin. I just don’t know what exactly they did to her,or why.
I think Robin went to Duke*although I don’t know how she found out her was still alive. * She went to him because she thought she was dying,She didn’t want Patrick and Emma to see her die.So they blew her up in front of Patrick ? Makes no sense to me.
I like Patrick,and if Kim wanted to leave,fine He shouldn’t have to lose his job. They needed to find a way to allow Patrick to have his life,and leave the door open for Kim to return if she changed her mind later.

Janet, I have to agree. Although, I liked Anna and Duke in their day, what most GH fans would like is to see Anna with Robert, and to see them as a family WITH their daughter (momentarally) since she is alive. Then let Kimberly go on with her life since she has chose to leave the show. But to get to see Anna with Robert, and Robin as a family for a period of time would be wonderful and the fans would LOVE it.

Well, I’M a long time viewer – since the mid 70s. Found the show impossible to watch since about 2000 when the mob was on every day. Drama? What drama? Who Jason was going to kill today? And Guza killed any halfway decent person in the cast except Robin (Tony, Emily, Alan, AJ.. and probably would have done in Laura too given the chance – as it was she became a wig on a stick for a few years). He marginalized the Quartermaines and wrote pure unadulterated crap for Brenda fans (what WAS that last return all about?) and then decided that Luke had cheated on Laura and had a child with Holly. Really? For those of you who think RC is decimating characterizations, have you been watching what the previous writer did for the past decade??
Carlivati did not kill ONE LIFE TO LIVE. ABC did. It had good ratings, it came in under budget and there was a lot of soapy goodness on the show.
I started watching GH again in May (when they brought Tea on board) and have not missed a day since. Less mobsters, more Qs, more attention to history, more fun, more drama… sure, right now, Kate/Konnie eats up the show, but so does everyone now and then… and it all goes back to Sonny anyway, so it’s still a mobster’s fan delight.
Frankly I hope that with Steve Burton’s exit, this show focuses more on business/hospital stories rather than stories involving guns and lopsided/oddball morality. The lopsided/oddball morality still exists but thank God RC is slowly moving away from that paradigm.

I agree with you. I too have been a long time viewer, since the 60’s with Mom. My favorite time was course with Luke and Laura, Anna, Robert, Holly, Frisco, Felecia, Donnelly and Elsie (LOL). Anyway, my point is the Mob stuff always got on my nerves. I hated the way it took over GH and the only time it was needed was when the were hurt. I’ve always disliked the character of Brenda, she was so whinny, and frankly I hope she doesn’t return. I think Carly and Sonny make a much more interesting couple. Just my 2 cents worth. Don’t want to get in a debate. We all have our favorites.. The key.. keep watching.!

Week after week I hope for a story to excite me and week after week I’m disappointed. Don’t get me wrong I love GH and have watched religiously since 1988 but GH hasn’t excited me since early 2000. Now I can FINALLY say I have a story to look forward to!!!! I’m so exited and can’t wait to see Duke’s return!!! I’m still holding out hope for the rebuilding of the Quartermaines and I need a couple to care about. The last couple I was obsessed with was Sonny and Brenda! I hope Vanessa will come back so that RC can fixed her last return and write her and Maurice the way SnB should be written!

This just keeps getting better and better. To have that triangle going on will be one for the books! We all want Luke to get back to the “good old days” of looking for and solving the mystery that’s lurking behind the curtain. We love Duke Lavery and to think he’s gone to the dark side might be just a tease. How will GH do it?? I thought Jerry Jax was behind Robin disappearing with Dr. Ewan?? Are they going to tie it all up in a bow for us?? Can’t wait to watch…that’s why you keep winning that Daytime Emmy GH!!

Me too! There is balance now between mob/hospital/humor/love stories-it is just GREAT, must see TV every single day. We are seeing more variety. Love it all. At first I did not like this Kate at all but suddenly one day, I started really liking her. When she narrows her eyes & turns into Connie, I just love it & Connie is SO FUNNY. And Olivia w/Connie/Kate is so funny too. I also loved the chemistry between Joe Scully, Jr. & Tracy but I guess that is over, can’t see a way out of Joe’s behavior (trying to kill poor Christina, I mean, really JOE?) I love Spinelli & his new girl too.
You said you like spinelli’s new girl……….But what about Maxie??? She admitted to LuLu she is in love with Spinelli & isn’t afraid of her feelings for him anymore….I think she will tell Spinelli how she feels……………She might prove her love by taking off her wedding band………….Gloria, what do you think about this?????????
I’m a long time GH viewer and believe the show has the potential to be as big as it was in its hey day (the 80’s). I believe the key ingrediant is giving the fans what they want (you can tease, but in the end, feed the fans). I give you 5 storylines that I believe would be must watch television.
1) Duke has recreated himself and wields real power (political and financial) and this collides with Sonny’s idea of power (illegal/Mafia). Side bar- Duke sees in Sonny what he would have been if he hadn’t left the mob influence.
2) Kate/Connie receive long term mental health care and she (Connie) makes friends with Heather Webber who is once again institutionalized. Sidebar- Storyline takes place in the mental health facility.
3) Laura now a successful business woman in Europe (the new cosmetic/fashion queen) returns to Port Charles and convinces Lulu (her daughter) and Kristina to be the newest faces in the fashion industry (the two of them become rivals. Sidebar – Laura has secretly joined the WSB (World Security Bureau) with the mandate to kill Victor Cassadine (he’s back!)
4) A.J. & Tracy Quartermine team with Michael Corrinthos and the 3 are running the family business. Sidebar – their business interest collides against that of Todd & Carly Mannings (yeah they get married).
5) Shawn/Alexis, Mac/Felicia shaperone a high school field trip oversees where both T.J. & Molly are abducted.
Who Leaves = Johnny, Spinelli, Maxie, Olivia, Trey & Joe Jr.
Each of the characters below could be tied into one of the 5 plot devices.
Who Stays = Patrick, Robin (a new actress if Kimberly M. doesn’t resign), Sam, John, Dante, Steve, Monica, Star & Luke
Who Joins = Victor Lord (OLTL), Tea (OLTL), Erica Kane (AMC), Robert & Holly Scorpio (yeah they’re married too!)
So this is my ideal storylines, but I really believe each would give most actors the chance to shine while keeping things unpredicable and fresh.

Anna would of course be one of the folks who stay.

Rebuild the Q’s. Reduce Corinthos. Move Alexis back to Cassadine status. Make it MATTER. More Cassadines. Laura. Lucy Coe.
I want Dorian and Vicki! And, can you imagine the reunion of Frisco and Felicia, Anna and Duke and Luke and YES Laura in one one big dramatic storyline? I pray for this day. With Cassadines, a bunch of effin Cassadines.
Maybe Dorian and Vicki would buy the Q Mansion from Monica, because Llanview fell into the underground city of Eterna, but they escaped: (with possibly, in the future, all the main characters of course) — the thought of Vicki and Dorian and Monica and Tracy fighting in Q Manor makes me laugh harder than you can imagine. I would love that. (silly, why not?) 😉
(Tracy’s and Monica’s fight recently was one of the BEST moments in months, and with so many good moments lately, wow, nice job gals and writers)
And yes Helena. And MORE Q POWER. MONICA! Can Alan come back from the Dead? Or, Monica could marry Clint Buchanan.

Spinella should stay because he brings a different kind chaacter to the show, and industry at large. He’s good for conducting nerdy investagation as a technology spy. He brings allot to the show, just being DIFFERENT.
Star can go. Maxie, Felicia, really isn’t needed, ole whinny voice.
Mac can join Shawn/ Alexis with Anna and Luke to search fr TJ and Molly.

Its not even a debate its crazy talk Luke and Laura were 80s GH and late 80s to 92 it was Robert and Anna Scorpio there wasn’t much of Duke and Anna it lasted a short time and Anna always had Robert in her life to help her out Duke was a loser then and still is one now. I don’t understand why anyone would want a Loser like Duke with Anna really when you consider her own words in 90s that Robert was the love of her life really are we changing history again and again with a PEN!
Also one more comment bring back TR how can we have Robin being held bye Duke and not have Robert Scorpio all over his @@@ like always he would always know Duke was dirty and up and over his head in the MOB!

We need the GH that is actually a soap opera. Love in the afternoon. the businesses that keep the families with a life. we need a group of college kids.We need a little family drama. And we do not need the mob. W do not need characters breaking the law and getting away with it. Unless we are eventually going to see them go to jail. I have had enough of Scummy. When he trys to make it sound like he was the better father for michaelI want to see Michael notice the scars he has from bullet wounds. he needs a shrink even more than Konnie. he has killed once and almost smothered his father,why because he tried to get him away from the mob? Mykill is a mess. Now he wants jason’s job? Let him have it,and have a shootout with Duke AND LOSE.
I don’t know where y’all are coming from but from where I’m coming from, nobody ever liked Duke and Anna as a couple, nor did anyone care for Sonny and Brenda. in fact people didn’t like the Duke Lavery character at all, and have never liked Sonny as a character either, and wish he would leave the show. everyone is in complete agreement that General Hospital has gone down hill ever since they made Sonny a main character and a focal point of the show. People still don’t like Duke and hope his current return is a short one. to suggest that either couple were #1 a “super couple” and #2 “popular and loved” and #3 anywhere near the beloved and popular status long held by luke and Laura is not only misleading, but grievously erroneous in nature.
besides the aforementioned Luke and Laura, these couples were more liked and popular in the history of General Hospital than either Duke and Anna or Sonny and Brenda.

to name some and set a more accurate record. all of these couples were extremely well liked and popular. Duke and Anna or Sonny and Brenda never even come up in the conversation unless it is followed by an expression of dislike. you can throw in Carly and her affairs with half of Port Charles into the mix of disliked characters and couples as well. none of the couples in more recent years nor any of the current couples are even in the same ballpark as far as likeability or popularity. in fact, the general consensus is they have all been and are now quite boring, with some of the pairings thought to be plain dumb.
for the record, the people I know…my GH “crowd”….range in age and include people of all age ranges from seniors all the way down to pre-teens. I myself have been an avid faithful follower and fan of GH since Dr. Phil Brewer met his untimely demise on the end of a jade paperweight. and while I’m at it, the current writing for GH is horribly atrocious. it’s that bad. Frank and Doris Hursley would be embarrased.
loyal to the end, though, and thankfully for VCR’s, DVR’s, Soapnet, Dish programming and the occasional day off, I still watch.

Ok for now I have no complaints. The show is on an upward turn..A lot of the characters are welcome back. The Q’s have come out of hiding. The hospital is up and running,and the fans on the whole seem happy.
