There is a very interesting read out from ABC.com with an in-depth interview with new General Hospital head writer, Ron Carlivati making the transition from One Life to Live and taking over the storytelling in Port Charles.

Among GH story issues posed to the talented scribe were Heather Webber’s return, Robin’s exit, if Jason and Elizabeth might have a chance at being in each others orbit again,  Kate/Connie’s multiple personality disorder, and the Mannings and McBain coming to Port Chuck from Llanview!

Here are some interesting excerpts below, but make sure to check out the full interview and also let us know your comments and thoughts! We know many of you have been watching the progress of GH, and your favorite characters, since Ron and Frank Valentini (EP, GH) took over the creative side of the long running ABC soap.

Carlivati on bringing back crazy Heather Webber:  “You absolutely need characters like that, who are nutty and fun and capable of doing anything, and Robin Mattson is just so wonderful as Heather. And this is not just a return for nostalgia’s sake. There’s an important story reason for Heather being on the canvas, part of a big mystery that’s unfolding, so that’s exciting too. Heather holds a big secret. It’s connected to the video of baby boy Moore that Franco left behind for Jason and Sam. Don’t forget that Heather and Susan Moore [Jason’s bio-mom] were first cousins! ”

Carlivati on inheriting Robin’s death and several other exiting characters from the canvas when he began as head writer:  “It was obviously a challenge to come in and be handed a show where some very popular characters were exiting [Lucky, Robin, Ethan]. I was like, “Was it something I said?” To come in and find out that Robin Scorpio – who we watched grow up on General Hospital, just like we watched Starr grow up on OLTL – just seeing a beloved character like that leaving…that obviously was difficult for me. But it did give us the opportunity to launch story and to try to make lemonade out of lemons. No one wants to see a beloved character leave, but with the actress choosing to go, at least we were able to get a lot of story out of it.  I was in the same situation with Ethan, too. But once gain, I took it as an opportunity to start new story. Luke has now told a lie that could someday blow up in his face. And you’re going to feel the ramifications of Robin’s exit for a long time to come. Years to come, if I have anything to say about it.”

Carlivati on Connie Falconeri/Kate Howard’s new multiple personality storyline: Well what happened was, the seeds of Connie – this other personality of Kate’s – were planted long before I got there. It was very clear that that’s the direction the story was going in, and I had two options: To continue it, or to drop it. And having written multiple personalities on the other show, at first I felt this wasn’t something I wanted to do again, but it was so beautifully set up. And there is such a great storyline that comes out of it that I decided to run with it, even in the face of people comparing it to OLTL. We get really great story out of it, and we will have a few fun little mentions of the OLTL storyline as well. But I’m trying to give it a different slant as much as possible.

Carlivati on the romantic future of Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) ” Elizabeth and Ewen are going to start dating, but I’m well aware that there’s a big fan base out there for Jason and Elizabeth, too. It’s my intention to play that history whenever we can. They’re friends, and they’ve gone through the death of a child together, so they’ll always be in each other’s orbit because of that.  But they will be in story together, too, so stay tuned!”

Carlivati on bringing the Mannings and John McBain to Port Charles via Llanview: “Coming off of writing the end of OLTL, it seemed like a very obvious question – should we explore the idea of bringing any of these characters – characters who are all part of the same ABC Daytime family – into General Hospital? I was always intrigued whenever there was any kind of crossover on the ABC soaps, so I was exciting by the idea of doing something like that on GH. The OLTL audience was left wondering what happened to these people, so it seemed like a great way to be able to answer some of those questions, but also to use it as a way to shake up the canvas on General Hospital and create new story.  GH needs young people, so Starr being one of the most popular young characters on ABC Daytime, she seemed like a natural fit. And then you think about who her father is…to be able to pit two guys, arguably the two most infamous characters in daytime television, Sonny Corinthos against Todd Manning…I mean, who could resist that? So that’s where the idea began, and then I had to jump in and try to figure out a story to get it going right away – so that was the impetus for the car crash which puts the Corinthos family and the Manning family head-to-head right away. ”

All I can say is after seeing today’s episode is Thank You! You acknowledged in a beautiful scene what should have been done a year ago between Jason & Liz it was well done and did show you why these two did have fans and the closeness that should have been done concerning a childs death. Once again thank you, finally someone realizes Rebecca Herbst’s potential. She was the Liz I remember not slamming anyone I thought we finally have her back. Great show today keep them coming and we just might save GH.

I agree with you. And I know this is not Ron’s doing, but wish GH writers would stop killing babies, toddlers and young adults when they don’t know what to do with a character and their storylines.

Can I ask a silly question without getting attacked?? What was all the excitement about on Wednesday, watching Jason & Liz throw leaves in the water from Jake??
It was sweet, but I see people posting that they wanted to FAINT when they saw that.
What am I missing??

I wish that Elizabeth and Matt would start dating instead of Liz and a newbie.

I want Liason! I like Liz dating and as long they don’t try to put her back w/ Lucky I am ok. But, Ron likes writing about first loves. i guess we shall see.

I agree…Liason forever!

When are they brining back Natalia Livingston and Tyler Christopher? Time to resurrect Emily, and reunite the most amazing couple GH has ever had.

Bite your tongue–the thought of that perky and insipid twit coming back is a scarier thought than Freddy Krueger moving next door to me.

@ Osgood: “the thought of that perky and insipid twit coming back is a scarier thought than Freddy Krueger moving next door to me.

This is the funniest and most creative “smart remark” I have ever heard on this board. You been hanging out with Helena Cassidine too long “insipid” twit. LOL

That is funny, the greek pilsbury dough boy-an arrogant chubby bunny is not fun to watch ,brilliant.lol

I would love to see Nikolas return, too. But only if TC is playing him. However, it doesn’t seem as though Cartini is all that interested in the Cassadines. I hope that I’m wrong, though.

I am not a fan of that Greek Pilsburry Dough Boy–an arrogant chubby bunny is not fun to watch.

Obviously, the level of discourse on this board has taken quite a nose dive. UGH.

Hasn’t it? I see, it’s not just me! Ugh…,that’s an Auh Huh, moment..!
At night I use to log on, with my glass of wine and laugh. I haven’t done that in a week., people recanting and fighting about the same ole subjects.

Bringing the Manning family without Blair? I can’t even believe it. There was so much promise to this crossover and then -thud. Not only does Starr need her mother and Todd need his soulmate, but Carly hasn’t had such a great scene in ages. Blair is a natural in Port Charles.

Blair breathes new life into Port Charles, you cannot have Todd without Blair. That would be like having cornbeef without mustard. And John McBain rocks Port Charles, can’t wait for the cool contest between Jason and John–John and Todd already beat Sonny in the cool department hands down. Sonny tends to blush when talking to those aforementioned two. Frankly, can’t say I blame him.

yum,I love cornbeef and mustard on new york rye bread ,next trip to the grocery store Its in my shopping cart.your so right about todd and blair, she has to move to port charles with todd, there is no way she would leave starr after what has happened to cole and the baby(dont like that the baby died )love john mcbain hes going to clean up port charles like he did landview.

I’m not interested in watching Todd without Blair. GH is no longer on my viewing schedule.

Yea what is up with that? Blair & Carly had the chemistry!
Jawn McNostrils hands in pockets I could do without!

I found it odd that ABC would post an interview on their own website where the head writer talks about the “future” of GH.

This is what makes the world go round, as I find it promising that ABC would post an interview with Ron C. speaking of the future of GH on their website! My first thought was, wow, this “could” be a good sign, that ABC actually did an interview with GH’s new head writer speaking of all of his plans for the future of GH. I absolutely love the plans ahead too, and am so hopeful that GH will have a long life!!!!!

I certainly hope it’s a good sign. I like what I see on screen!

Let’s keep our fingers crossed, and our eyes peeled to watching GH!!!! 🙂

Do you really know the future holds for General Hospital on ABC in September 2012? Will ABC cancel the show or not?

Thank you!!

We dont know whether or not abc/disney will cancel general hospital,we should hopefully find out soon.Who knows maybe tomorrow.

I wish I could feel the same excitement that Ron feels. As a long time OLTL viewer (43 years) I cannot help but feel that Todd and Star look out of place on GH. Perhaps I just want my old soap back again and I should just take the crumbs that are being offered. BTW Michael this is a great interview. I dont remember Ron Carlivati being so talkative before!

I think Sonny, Kate, Faux Maxie look out of place on GH—-The Mannings and John McBain fit right in.

I am extremely disappointed that you are not utililizing Kassie dePaiva in her role of Blair. OLTL was not complete unless Blair was doing something and I am disappointed that you did not decide to have Blair written into the storyline on GH!

Blair & Carly together…Friends or Foes are great CHEMISTRY. What is up with Kassie? She coming or she waiting to see if GH is being renewed first??

Shes probably waiting for someone to offer her a contract.and blair and carly were good together werent they?

Oh I think they want her! She would have to relocate her son, and I don’t think she wants to do that until she knows the future of GH. jmo

Great interview! Thanks for sharing this with us. I am surprised I didn’t see this when I was on the ABC.com website watching GH this morning. I hope that more people will watch the show this way if they do not have a Neilson box.

They should cancel The Revolution ASAP.. And hopefully our problems will be solved…GH will be on at 2:00pm this Sept.. Cross your fingers FELLOW SOAP FANS!!!! I know it’s hard to be positive about this…………. Keep a stiff upper lip !!!!!!!!!!!!! John McBain was awesome on GH today. Also like Rick Springfield ( jeese’s Girl)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they did cancel the revolution they putting good morning america in the afternoon in september GH is still back on look at wikipedia.org it is official you are right about john mcbain he is good better than jason. and i love that song jesse’s girl

This is a old post.. I know thet cancel The Revolution. At this time in March we didn’t know… Thanks anyway..

hmmm… i could, but in Canada you would need use of proxy server… but the Canadian viewer would be counted !

brain ,you have to explain more about the canada proxy server, what is that ? Is it the same as the neilson crap that doesnt work as far as Im concerned?Because the soaps had the viewers ,Its just that the soaps were watched all different ways ,and here we go again but several age groups ,like myself ,we are not counted ,but they have commercials for the aging you know teeth goo, hemorriods, leaky facets pills, walk in bathtubs stuff I dont need yet ,but you know where Im going more older people watch tv so we are screwed as far as the ratings go,What I should do is shut the dam tv off .Your proxy server has me interested, would a canadian viewer be counted?Or is abc/disney screwing with our northern neighbors to?

hi barbara t.

A proxy server has nothing to do with the neilson rating system or is any kind of rating system.

A proxy server curcumvents the block that prevents different countries from accessing internet content from outside the host country. Here in Canada, if we go to ABC.com and try to watch online programing, we get a black screen that states that our ip address is outside of the United States and that we are not allowed to view the program. A proxy server “fools” this block and make it appear that the ip address is from within the United States, and then you can view the show.

Btripp’s original comment said that they are watching GH online so that ABC gets their “count” as a viewer. So my comment was to that, that here in Canada we would have to use a “prioxy server”, which is a legal grey area, as Canada’s laws regarding this very greatly from the US’s laws regarding internet usage. There are many companies that you can purchase this service from, and they cost about $65 for a years usage. Strangley, most of these company are within the US, so an American broadcast (ABC) puts these blocks on their programming, then another US company blocks the block so outside countries can access the programming.

So, here in Canada, to watch GH online and have our viewership counted by watching online, this is what you would need to do.

You can Google “proxy server” and you will see this service offered. Hope this has cleared thing us regarding my original comment.

brain, this is confusing but interesting.I thought that the abc soaps were on in canada ,your television.without the proxy service.years ago when I lived in western new york we went to canada alot ,we walked or by car went over the peace bridge ,and several canadians said they watched the abc soaps if for some reason they didnt put the soaps on we would go to the canadian channel and watch it there .thanks alot for your info,Niagara falls both sides are beautiful, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Hi Barbara t.

Yes, the ABC soaps are on tv here, and thru cable we have all the American networks here on standard prodcast television. My comment and explaination of using a proxy server is for only when a viewer goes to ABC.com and tries to watch online programing thru the internet on their computer.

Btripps original comment was that they went to ABC.com and watched GH “online” to have their viewership counted directly by ABC, which we here in Canada can not do unless we circumvent the “outside the United States” block. Programming has distrutabution laws and that is why it is a legal grey area to do this… but if you were living in Canada and watching GH online using a proxy server to access GH thru ABC.com, you would be counted by ABC as a viewer.

Does this make things clearer?
Regards.

oh and Barbara t, it’s Brian, not brain. lol

hey Brian, Im so sorry,I do have an excuse, I have bad eyes.

No worries Barbara T… just as long as you still watch GH clearly with your eyes. Hopefully with support from both our countries, GH will survive and with any luck ABC will get rid of those two new shows that have failed and give us back all of our favorite ABC soaps. If anyone from ABC reads this great website, our posts will convince them they have done us wrong.

Loved it. And the fact that it comes directly from ABC themselves! It gives me great hope that GH survives. Ron’s introduction to the ABC soaps was the same time as mine, and I also picked up OLTL 1981. His current blending of the two shows makes me feel less disappointed by ABC, since OLTL has lived on in the wonderful way. GH has my full support.

I just wish there was a way the Canadian viewership could be counted in the ratings game.

Great interview, Ron you are doing a great job. I love GH and I love seeing characters from OLTL joining the show and I hope there will be more story lines for more characters from AMC and OLTL.

All I ask is that he not butcher the character of Heather Webber any further. The damage Guza did to her was bad enough.

Susan Moore is Jason’s biological mother? Who is she? How did Monica end up with Jason?

Alan had an affair with Susan, she got pregnant then after she had Jason she got murdered-Monica adopted him & she & Alan raised him.

Monica adopted Jason when he was very young because she was married to Alan (his father). I am pretty sure Susan Moore died. I am excited to see how this story plays out with Heather Webber coming back to town.

Alan (Monica’s husband) had an affair with Susan Moore. She aventually died, and at was adopted by Monica and Alan as their legal son.

Anyone have any ideas on the secret Heather Webber knows I mean Franco saying to Jason don’t you want to know why I was basically stalking you. I hope they make a good story out of what started as a royal mess with the Franco junk. Any ideas???

I think that Franco is going to turn out to be Jason’s fraternal twin brother.

I agree with btripp, there twins ,I hope that doesnt mean franco will raise from the dead and show up in port charles again.Ron if your reading this please dont bring him back.

The movement to save General Hospital is reaching mainstream proportions.

This is a letter from a Disney shareholder and a soap opera fan who is urging ABC to cancel The Revolution and move General Hospital into the timeslot.

https://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-763900

You made my day w/this CNN article. LOVE IT!!!

I was never really a fan of Heather Webber character..can take that or leave it. Most references to John/Sam today and yesterday will not be known unless you saw the old tv soap called PORT CHARLES.. it was kind of funny the way the did the dialogue tongue in cheek. Heartbreaking watching Liz/Jason today and nice job with Patrick and his dad. Love the way this show is going so far and hope to GOD that we see this work on into 2013. ABC llisten to your viewers… do not cancel your only SOAP!!

Sonny vs Todd, Yes Please!!!

Ron Carlivati writes beautiful soap. I wish Y&R could have his and FV’s clones to head up their creative team. I have a confession, fellow ONE LIFERS: I’ve suspended my abcd boycott on occasion to catch glimpses of GH on Soap Net. Not bad, Ron, not bad at all….. I have a wish list for RC/FV:
1) Bring Roxie to GH as a candy striper/volunteer. Can you imagine the interaction between Epiphany and Roxie, with Roxie talking her Roxie language and short-tempered Epiphany constantly getting irritated with Roxie?
2) More Diane Miller…… Maybe bring Tea Delgado over to join law firm with Diane and Alexis.
3) Bring Megan Ward back as Kate. The current actress is pleasant enough, but I love me some Megan Ward, plus she is a little more age appropriate for the role.
4) Resolve the cliffhanger of OLTL, even if you have to bring TSJ as Victor to GH.
5) Bring Natalie to OLTL and re-pair with John. A love quadrangle with John/Natalie/Jason/Sam would be awesome!
6) Have Jason revert to Jason Quartermaine and show him coming to terms with everything he has done the last decade and a half.
7) Send Sonny to prison once and for all and release Port Charles from the mob’s grip at last.

Love your ideas Jared–love em!

I like it.except I want roxy to run the spencers diner, somebody has to run the place ,she would fit right in she can give epitheny a cup of coffee and some good advice.

Agree with all of your ideas Jared, yours too Barbara.

I agree about bringing Natalie (and Liam) but I think they also need to bring Victor, Todd, Tea and Blair and play out the cliffhanger fom OLTL.

can they bring tomas and victor to gh between them and todd tag team to help john so he can get justice for his half sister’s death i agree with john he knows about sonny’s past in atlantic city they are powerful men in oltl and gh former agent and former fbi and cop and twin brothers remember the underground cia with psycho mother irene

I agree. I want Nat back too. John will be making a call to her. I wonder if they’re married or not?

Roxy and Epiph would be fun, the head butting. Can you imagine Rox and Coleman? They’d have to bleep out some of their dialogue.

Todd with no Blair is a shallow bore. They tried it, didn’t work. They are a magnetic powerhouse very different kind of couple than most in daytime tv.

Kassie Depaiva needs to be a part of this. Otherwise everyone who followed the OLTL finale will feel used and robbed. Blair is Todd’s heart like Sonny loves his brenda…. and she and Carly look like sisters to me.
Who was carly’s dad>? who was Blair’s DAD? we always wanted to know…

Bring Blair to GH. She stole the show when she visited!!!! Would love to see Roxie, Natalie, and Jess / Tess as well!!!

Bring on the OLTL hunks too!!!!!!

Marisa instead of bringing them to GH instead if they can cancel the Revolution and restart One Life to Live.

I agree with you robert c.

Debi I would not attack you not my style. I liked the Jason & Liz scene because I felt some closure. To be honest when they killed off little Jake the way Guza wrote it you would swear Jason or Lucky gave birth to the baby. I agree the leaves might have been a bit cheesy but everything else was great!

Please no Liason. I love Jason and Sam together. Give Elizabeth a new man….or better yet bring Zander back from the dead!

I love this storyline! I grew up with Starr and I love being able to follow her to PC. I just wish they didn’t have to kill Hope after all Starr went through to have her, keep her and raise her. Cole was expendable; not Hope… I will be watching GH for as long as the OLTL characters are there….Once they go, I go.

Maurice Benard Gives High Praise to ‘General Hospital’ Writers; Teases Upcoming Sonny Scenes with Anna, Jason, Justine and Ric

Published

By

With the highly-anticipated returns of Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) on this week’s June 24 episode of General Hospital, Steve Burton’s (Jason Morgan) upcoming return on July 13, which also serves as the ABC daytime drama’s 16,000 episode, things are about to fire on all cylinders in the story, as noted today by series star, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos).

On Father’s Day, the three-time Daytime Emmy-winning actor and mental health activist took to his Instagram and expressed in a video that he has some unbelievable upcoming senes with the aforementioned Burton and Hughes. Add to that Nazneen Contractor (Justine Turner) and Rick Hearst (Ric Lansing), where Benard gave credit where credit is due to the GH writing team, which is led by co-head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten..

In this video, Benard said, “I just want to get on here and say that I did some work with Steve Burton, Finola Hughes, Rick Hearst, Nazneen Contractor, and they’re all just fantastic. Truly fantastic. But, I want to say the writing was just exceptional. It truly was. It was exceptional. So, thankful for that kind of writing. I know writers don’t get the credit a lot, but I just want to say to the General Hospital writing team, keep rolling!”

GENERAL HOSPITAL PREVIEW

So now the question becomes, with a major tease like that, what is about to go down between Sonny, Anna, Jason, Justine and Ric? Will we finally get to the end of the line for Sidwell (Carlo Rota), as previously teased by the GH co-head writers? Will we learn what happened to Jason and Anna, fully? Will Justine and Sonny becomes closer or stop their liaisons? And what of Ric? Will he be true blue to his brother or double-cross him? There is a lot at stake as we move further into the summer and one that looks like it could be one of the more exciting ones in years!

FINOLA HUGHES CONFIRMED AMAZING SCENES WITH MAURICE BENARD

As a punctuation point to his video, Benard also shared this written message in the post: “I just did some wonderful scenes with Steve Burton, Rick Hearst, Finola Hughes and Nazneen Contractor and  and unbelievable writing, freaking amazing scenes that you will see in the near future on General Hospital.” In fact, Finola Hughes jumped in the post comment thread and responded, “I loved our scenes so much xxx”

Fans will most likely see all the scenes Benard referred to later in July, since GH tapes approximately six weeks ahead of air.

So, are you excited to see what Maurice is talking about? Are you hyped for what’s to come on GH? Any clue on what you think will go down between the main characters on the soap with the returns of Anna Devane and Jason Morgan to the mix? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

In a surprise move, Daytime Emmy winner, Chad Duell (ex-Michael Corinthos, GH) is getting ready to unveil a new chapter of his career in music.

The former GH star, where he played the son of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) for 15 years, has announced his new single, “If You Need Me” will drop on Friday, June 26. The single is now available for pre-order on Spotify and major music streaming platforms and is distributed by DistroKid.

Taking to his Instagram story over the weekend, to announce the pre-save of his new single, Chad expressed, “I’ll make a full post about what I’ve been up to and my music once it goes live next week, but you can pre-save my first single so it goes straight to your Spotify once it drops next week.”

SINCE LEAVING GENERAL HOSPITAL

Previously, since his departure from the ABC soap opera. Chad starred alongside Zach Mendez in the world premiere of of Yum Yum at Annapolis, a new play written by Bruce Reisman. Duell last appeared on General Hospital on the January 21, 2025 episode.

The part was recast with Rory Gibson who debuted as the new Michael in May of 2025 during the Nurses’ Ball episodes and who has remained in the role since that time.

In an interview earlier this year on The Able Show, Duell said on his decision to exit the soap opera, “I was blessed to be part of that (show) for as long as I have, but what happens sometimes is if you’re doing the same thing, especially in a creative field for such a long time, you can get a little burnt out in a way. It can make you a little depressed, so that’s kind of what happened. On top of that, I had other things going on in my life at the time. My father passed away recently and I just needed a reset. So, I stepped away. A lot of times you have to go through some stuff to really step into that next level. I needed to kind of feel uncomfortable.”

So, what type of musical genre will Chad’s new song be? Country? Pop? Rock? Dance/Club? Something else? Let us know your thoughts via the comment section below, and if you are eager to hear the new single next week via the comment section below.
