One half of the actors who comprise  soap opera’s on-going “doomsday” wedding couple, General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) spoke with TV Guide about the upcoming nuptials of Sonny and Brenda (Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo).  However this time Maurice lets it be known that the couple does wed, but not without everything under the sun against them.  But, of course! It wouldn’t be true Sonny and Brenda without the drama, right?  Here are a few juicy excerpts from the conversation with one of daytime’s greatest treasures, Maurice!

Benard on what goes down at the wedding with everybody trying to stop or ruin the big day: “Sonny believes he has so much security at the wedding that no one will get in who’s not supposed to be there and, the truth is, no one does get in. Carly’s secret does come out, but not quite in the way you expect because the secret is not quite the betrayal that Carly and the audience thinks it is. Sonny ends up really giving it to Carly. And because he’s, well, Sonny, he doesn’t like that something big was kept from him so he really has it out with Brenda, too. He doesn’t let Dante have it… Well, just a tad but not much. As we all know, Sonny stood Brenda up at their last wedding. In fact, he’s pulled a whole lotta BS on her over the years, which is why he goes easy on her this time. Usually, Sonny would be going, “To hell with this! I’m outta here.”  But he doesn’t do that this time. I thought I might have some trouble making that work, but they wrote me this long monologue — it’s like 4 or 5 pages — that says it all and works really well to explain where Sonny’s coming from. But Carly is not forgiven… At least I’m not playing it that way. At the end of the day there’s a bit of a truce but I hope we’ll have some scenes in the future where Sonny and Carly can really go off on each other about how she tried to wreck the wedding.”

Benard on the connection between Dante and Brenda and if he sees the the chemistry with Marcil Giovinazzo and Zamprogna:  “I agree with you about their connection. It could be interesting. At this moment, it’s all about Sonny and Brenda but who knows what will happen down the line? It’s funny you ask about this because the other day the three of us were shooting a scene and Vanessa was joking a little bit in rehearsal and touched Dominic’s face in a kind of romantic way. And I’m standing there thinking, “What the hell?” It would be so weird if we went in that direction… But it would make good drama. And it’s all about the drama!”

So would you like to see a Dante and Brenda and Sonny triangle someday? Let us know! And what about the lovely Lulu?

The magic is gone! What is so great about these actors? Yuck!!!!

I think that DZ and VMG have zero chemistry. I am so tired of triangles and GH would be foolish to not have DZ (Dante) & JMB (Lulu) as a couple. DZ & JMB have a natural chemistry that compares with no other couples on daytime. I would compare their chemistry to Robert Redford and Barbara Streisand in “The Way We Were”. DZ & JMB’s chemistry is undeniable whether there are words or not. Ther scenes speak volumes!! Dante and Lulu have the potential to go the distance if GH plays it right and keeps them together.

brenda is a FABULOUS actress, who underrates herself constantly in interviews. she always credits maurice, but i remember their scenes in the 90’s. most were magic but they BOTH were a little green. it’s my belief that they each helped the other become better actors through their natural chemistry. maurice does not have chemistry with all his co-stars, but vanessa does. she makes each of her romances and even friendships so believable and joyous to watch. with sonny, with jax, with jason, and before with lois and robin. it’s magic whenever vanessa is on screen. i’m loving GH now because she’s at the center of the show and i’m finally interested in most storylines. maurice has zero chemistry with the current carly and even less with his other love interests in the past few years. but with vanessa, he’s on fire. i also like his “chemistry” with jason’s character. anyway, 3 cheers for vanessa’s return and here’s hoping she’s given her due by guza, who is a questionable storyteller and has strange favorites amongst the actors (eg. jason??!). I LOVE VANESSA MARCIL!!!

haha! I TOTALLY agree with everything you said.

And To answer the interviewer’s question….

NO NO NO NO NO I do NOT want a Sonny/Brenda/Dante triangle…

man, that’s just some Jerry Springer stuff right there… eww..

And to the people that have NO CLUE about the history of S&B… Please do not be rude if you have ABSOLUTELY NO idea what happened in the 90’s…I mean, I know it’s a free world and all but, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not do that. No one should make comments about a couple’s history if you know NOTHING about them….

S&B WERE GH and they WERE ratings… nowadays, ratings DID go UP because VM did come back last august. So if you don’t like it… Deal with it..or just don’t watch.

I haven’t seen GH when Luke and Laura were the hot thing back in the late 70’s/early 80’s.. but no one will EVER see a comment from me disrespecting that couple or what they meant to the fans… that’s just dumb.. I wouldn’t do it because I haven’t watched them in their prime, so who’s to say I should make rude comments about them? I know they are a supercouple because of how large their fan base is and how respected they are. It would be nice if those that DON’T know anything about S&B’s relationship/history could respected that couple as you would want others to respect your favorite couple..

amen, sista! i also don’t know luke and laura, but i can’t diss them without having been a viewer in the 70’s and 80’s.

but sonny and brenda — that i know was and is dynamite. i hope guza gives them a throw-down, gotta-have-you passionate love scene that only these two can do :))

can you please tell me the name of the song that is playing during the wedding?

What is the name of the song that was played at the wedding reception of Sonny and Brenda’s?

It’s called ” home again” by Daena Jay

the song is called home again

Adam Huss Makes Another Return to General Hospital as Nikolas Cassadine

Nikolas Cassadine will be back on your screens next week but now via Pentonville. That means, that actor Adam Huss is back for a visit for all-new episodes of General Hospital.

In story, Ava (Maura West) comes to visit her ex in the slammer. So, just what does Ava want now? She clearly has been working an agenda on Sonny (Maurice Benard). Is she working with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart)? What will she tell Nikiolas? stay tuned.

Meanwhile, once news of Huss’ return broke earlier on Friday via Soap Opera Digest, he also announced his return on his Instagram expressing, “For all those who’ve been asking, cat’s out of the bag;) Thank you to all my #Nikolas #GH fans for your unwavering support. I don’t take it for granted for a second! (Even when I can’t answer 😊) #generalhospital”

Huss took over the role of Nikolas back in January of 2023, after Marcus Coloma left the soap opera. Previous to that, Huss filed in for Coloma in September of 2021 and November of 2022. Fast-forward to January of 2024, Nikolas gave Ace to Laura and Kevin to raise, while he eventually turned himself into the police for kidnapping Esme and keeping her hostage while she was pregnant and Wyndemere.

The return of Huss comes on the heels of multiple reports that his on-screen son, Nicholas Chavez is not returning to the show as Spencer Cassadine, while in story Spencer is believed to have drowned int the Seine River after falling off a boat in France, when drugged by Esme.

So, looking forward to seeing Adam Huss back as Nikolas? Do you think GH will eventually have him more full-time? Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny and Jason Trade Threats on Each Other

The love affair that once was mobster Sonny (Maurice Benard) and hit man Jason (Steve Burton), and having each others back, is now apparently over! On the Thursday April 25th episode of General Hospital, an increasingly paranoid Sonny is confronted by Jason.

Jason wants to talk to Sonny about a “family matter”, but Sonny says they aren’t family now because he’s working with the Feds. Sonny goes on to say how he cannot trust Carly (Laura Wright) or Jason and he knows about Jason buying back the Metro Court for Carly from Nina (Cynthia Watros).

When the conversation turns to Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Dex (Evan Hofer), Jason informs Sonny that Kristina (Kate Mansi) knows Sonny ordered a hit. Jason is worried about Dex’s safety. He tells Sonny that if he does something to Dex, Kristina will figure out that he is responsible.

Sonny goes on to say how much he loves his kids and how he will protect them. He then tears into Jason for abandoning his sons, Danny and Jake, for two years and how he has no right to stand there to tell him what to do.

Jason warns Sonny again to leave Dex alone or he’ll personally stop him. Sonny snaps at Jason, countering, “You’ll die trying!” And at that point, Jason walks out and Sonny slams the door behind him.

What do you think about this split in the longstanding relationship of Jason and Sonny? Do you like Jason and Sonny at odds? Will Kristina be the person to ultimately figure out what is happening to Sonny, or it might it be Nina, who knows Ava (Maura West) is up to no good? Share your thoughts in the comment section, but first watch this clip from part of the Sonny/Jason scenes below.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

No word yet on when Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story will debut on Netflix, but it is assumed later this year.

So, what do you think about the news of Nicholas Chavez not returning to his role as Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital? Comment below.
