Giovanni Mazza On Contract at General Hospital: What Are Your First Impressions?
This week, General Hospital introduced newcomer Giovanni Mazza in the role of Giovanni Palmieri, who apparently is Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) second cousin, one removed or so the story goes.
The character of Gio showed up at Brook Lynn’s wedding to Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) and played the violin at the ceremony. As has been previously reported, Mazza in real-life is a professional violinist and actor.
Upon making his first appearance on the ABC daytime drama series back on May 15th, fans wondered if Gio will be sticking around and that was confirmed by the closing credits of the May 17th episode where Mazza’s name is included along with other contract players.

When the news of Mazza’s casting was announced, the talent young man took to his Instagram and shared the good news, expressing, “I am so honored, grateful, and ecstatic to announce the big news! The biggest thank you to General Hospital for bringing me.” He closed his sentiments with “So much love and joy to my new fam! YAY!!! ”
Commenting on his post included new castmates Evan Hofer (Dex) saying, “Happy to have you brother,” plus Tabyana Ali (Trina), Eden McCoy (Joss) and ABC executive Nathan Varni who said, “Congratulations! Welcome to GH!

During the May 17th episode, Gio had an exchange with Dex, where he mentioned that his father was in the military back in early 2000’s. Previously, Gio revealed to Chase that his father died in the military when he was young. So this begs the question, who is Gio’s dad?

Drew could be an option as his past has so many wholes in it. But, would they give him another long lost son, having already done so with Oscar?
Wild cards… Valentin, Cyrus, Cody
He’s adorable and extremely talented. But I’m hoping he’s not Trina’s new guy. He’s too young (he’ll be 19), she’s going on 22 I believe and even though she looks young, he looks way younger. I’d rather they bring Emma back for him…I’m also wondering if he’s related to Dex. I feel like there could be some connection there; maybe Dex’s father cheated and Dex never knew about this brother???
I don’t think their ages are that much of a factor. Evan Hoffer (Dex) is about 27/28 and Edan (Joss) is 20/21 years old. So the age of the actors don’t really factor in too much. But the characters of Emma, Cameron, Spencer, Joss, Trina, and now Gio are all about the same age. I don’t know how old Dex is supposed to be.
Yawn. There’s so much wrong with GH, who cares anymore?

He’s not 20-something. In real life he’s going on 19 and he looks like 17. I still think they should bring back Emma. The actress just turned 18; they’d be a great young couple.

I am super excited, despite the crazyness of 6 exits looming over the next couple of weeks at Gh, happy we got Gio..Giovanni Mazzi is extremely talented not just with the violin and the Amazing other projects he has done. CONGRATULATIONS 1YR Contract, Gio is here to stay!!!

GH’s next Ricky Martin or Jesse’s Girl (Rick Springfield) talent discovery. GH has been known to pull out these musical diamonds in the past. One thing, is they don’t stay on the show very long.
And if you are looking for a DNA link to any PC citizens – the average reveal takes over 2 years.
So set your clocks for 2026 -(if the show lasts that long) and Gio is behind both Cody and Dex in that ultra slow-burning DNA story arc department.
Well, GH really didn’t “discover” those guys. Ricky Martin was part of Menudo, a boy band that was pretty big in Spanish speaking countries. And Rick Springfield was a big musical star in his native Australia since the late 1960s. Believe it or not he was briefly considered as a replacement for David Cassidy on the Partridge Family in 1974, though at the last minute the producers of the show decided to pull the plug rather than go through with a recast/replacement. And of course, he came to GH as an actor. Noah Drake was never a singer, though somebody (probably ReRon) decided to have Rick Springfield – as himself – sing at one of the later Nurses’ Balls.
As far as the DNA stuff goes, I don’t see any reason for Geo to have any father mystery. He’s Lois’s cousin and part of the whole Bensonhurst crowd, which makes him Sonny’s family, biology not required. And I doubt Dex will be around long enough to worry about who his father was. As for Cody, now that Mac is back on the set, you can bet your soul they will finally move forward with that story.
To be honest sweet young man but his personality doesn’t fit the character already on. Trying to make it fit. You can tell but time will show the hiring and writing teams I have to pass on him. Maybe a new interest for Trina he looks 16 maybe 18.pass again we need to get to know new characters and why ? This was a miss GH writers. Always ask why this character and now if you are looking for love for Trina, why not the thing that she is more into what she is actually doing in her life as an adult someone jogging that’s interested in the gallery someone who is a painter something in her interest is new guy sorry no
On his first day we have another “:who’s my daddy?”
I think they mentioned he’s completed two years of college, so that would put him at Joss and Trina’s age (in character). There is a rumor that Emma may return, but with a recast. In character, Emma is also a college student so she’s the same age as Joss/Trina. Some soap pages are speculating Gio will be a new love interest from Trina.
All I can say about him joining GH is yes, yes, and YES!! Now It’s time for Emma Drake to come back, and share the screen with this young man!! Woohoo!!
First of all, why does his father have to be anyone we know? Second of all why does he have to be involved with a girl on the show or a new one including Emma? Third, and most importantly, if they try pairing him with Trina, it’s Ciao, baby for me.
I immediately thought of Jason when he mentioned never knowing his dad. But I’d being willing to wait a while for that reveal. I’m more interested in them moving forward with the Mac/Cody reveal now that John J. York is back on set. Don’t want two of the same story playing at the same time.
They really didn’t give him a ton of work so far, so it’s hard to judge his abilities. I hope he’s really good. Seems very likeable. Could there be a triangle between him, Joss and Dex?
My question is why would he stay in PC if something doesn’t happen pronto?
Gio is Related to Louise’s family so I don’t believe for 1 minute. Anybody on the landscape in general hospital? Any of the men are his father that’s ridiculous. Hes not Dex’s long, lost brother, none of them ridiculous to think hes drew son or Jason son or anybody. Did already told us what families hes in.
I think you mean Lois’s family, which was evident by everything said by her and her family. Sonny being a close friend for many years is obviously very important to Gio and I bet he will want to stay close to Sonny, mabe taking over Dex’s place. Lois said he’s 21 now, so can make his own decisions, right or wrong.

GENERAL HOSPITAL Preview: Serena Sets Her Sights on Michael; Jason’s Emotional Exit from the Mob
This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”
Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.
Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. She tells her, “Pick out your most seductive suit.” Soon, we see Serena in her bathing suit at the Metro Court face to face with Michael.
Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.
Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 7
Josslyn is taken aback. Ava courts a new ally. Jordan and Anna catch up. Isaiah vents to Lucas and Elizabeth. Michael questions Jacinda.

Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80
Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.
The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.
As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.
PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL
Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)
According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”
Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.
Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.
In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.
Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
