Grayson McCouch Joins The Cast Of General Hospital As The New Agent Sloane!

With Robb Derringer out in the role of Agent Kyle Sloane on General Hospital, it looks like there was indeed longer terms plans for the character with this news today via Soap Opera Digest, that none other than former As the World Turns star Grayson McCouch (Ex-Dusty) is the recast for the role!
McCouch will begin airing on General Hospital in episodes beginning in early February! With Derringer out and McCouch in, it would seem that the plans are for “Commish” Devane (Finola Hughes) to perhaps have a new love interest with the agent that came to town to investigate his former WSB mentor, and what she did with arch-criminal Cesar Faison (Anders Hove)!
Soap fans are also familiar with Grayson’s work from Hollywood Heights and Another World.

As the World Turns Alum Rita Walter Dead at 71
We’re still losing so many beloved soap opera actors as 2022 comes to a close. Now comes word that former As the World Turns alum, Rita Walter (nee McLaughlin) passed away at the age of 71. Walter had been diagnosed with Multifocal Glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of terminal brain cancer.
Rita had an 11-year-run as Oakdale’s Carol Deming Hughes Stallings Andropoulos Frazier.
The former actress-turned-optician, died on Christmas. Rita’s brother, David McLaughlin revealed the news on the 26th which also happened to be the anniversary of Walter’s exit from the defunct CBS soap opera in 1981.
In his posting on Facebook, McLaughlin shared: “My sweet, loving sister Rita was called to Jesus today on Christmas day, his birthday. She was a well known actress as well as dedicated server of the Lord Jesus. May you rest in peace Sis, I love you forever. You’ve taken my heart with you.”

Before playing good girl, Carol Deming, who always found herself in distress as only a good heroine could do, Rita started her career as Patty Duke’s double on The Patty Duke Show, before getting her first foray into soaps with a role on The Secret Storm as Wendy Phillips.
We clearly remember when on ATWT, Carol was married to Jay Stallings, but Jay was having an affair behind her back. Carol also had failed relationships and marriages to Tom Hughes and Steve Andropolous. Eventually, Carol left Oakdale after falling in love and marrying Reverend Norman Frazier. In a case of life imitating art, Rita married Reverend Normal Walter in 1976.
Walter is survived by her three children, Brian, Jill, and Amy, and her husband, Reverend Norman.

Displeased!! There’s no need to recast the role 🙁 Why not recast either or both Jordan/Nathan? Neither actress/actor can act (but they are pretty to look at). GH hires a talented actor and then fires him instead of keeping him? Makes as much sense as putting Scorpio in a coma for a year! AND then acting all surprised when he lands on YR (where they smartly gave him a contract!).
I’m right there with you on Nathan. A year later and the guy has just not improved. There is a rumor and some speculation that agent Sloane could now be Nathan’s father because the actor resembles him. I hope not. Nathan has too much story and too many connections as is, as well as Dr.O. Plus, Sloane’s interaction with Dr.O showed no hint of a relationship, but that wouldn’t necessarily stop these writers as the show is full of inconsistencies and rewrites. I think Ryan has improved. I just have no idea what people are expecting out of him or his character. I know people who act just like him, so I don’t see what folks are talking about.
I so agree with majority who say here and gh facebook page,that well yes nate is an extreme-good lookin’ hot guy however,sad to say as others his acting well it just is horrible,so sad. We all know why Ryan Pavey/Nathan is on the show let’s get it out there he is eye candy for the head writer and the producer and that is their business but let’s not make pretend this man can act. Please!!!!

GH seems to think they can do almost anything and we as fans will just sit by. I hardly think that Grayson looks like someone that Anna could of mentored. However, Robb Derringer is actually older than Grayson. I believe he played the part really good. However, there isn’t much we can do now. All the twitting in the world will do nothing but maybe open doors for other contract work.
I don’t see this role staying on forever anymore. It was more believable before.

I agree, was surprised the character kept popping up, thought he was a throw-away. With McCouch in the role it will definitely take it up a notch. Loved him in ATWT and Hollywood Heights.
I am not familiar with either actor, so, I hope McCouch will bring more appeal to the Sloane character. Derringer’s portrayal, I find, is too haughty, for lack of a better word…..full of himself….almost like a wound-up Ken doll being manipulated by a higher source. Easy on the eye, yes, but the way he treats Anna breaks my heart. She should not have to justify her every move. She has held her position as commissioner with integrity and honor, has she not? They knew who he was going in. I thought the actor was good and there was chemistry with Anna.
I think they recast the role because they suddenly decided Robb was too young for the part which suggests the writing is transpiring after casting which is never a good way to go about about developing a new character.

I DEFINITELY believe now that Agent Kyle Sloane is Nathan’s father. . Grayson McCouch looks a LOT, a LOT like Nathan + 17-18 years. We shall see!!! Robb was fantastic and had a wonderful screen presence that you describe, and he embodied the right about masculinity and simplicity in the role. He’s a fine actor. I’m so shocked that has been replaced.

Agreed, Jeremy. It seems to me that “Cartini” have a distinct “type” that they just loooove to cast, and ultimately, Derringer wasn’t it. More’s the pity….I liked his particular look and style far more than this recast’s, who apparently better reflects the cookie-cutter males du jour that the show runners appear to favor.
I, too, thought Robb was doing a good job! He was thrown into a crazy story, and even though he isn’t a soap vet, he interacted very well with everyone he shared scenes with, especially Finola Hughes. This reminds me of the Kelly Andrews recast on Y&R. Cynthia Watros originated the role, and in my opinion did well (even if the character was poorly conceived) but then they recast with Cady McClain. I feel badly for Robb though…he did really well in the short period of time he was on GH and given the ridiculous storyline he had, I thought he also knocked it out of the park as well. I found myself rooting for more scenes between Sloane and Anna and I hardly know anything about this character. That’s a testament to his acting abilities!

GH writing staff plans plots 2-3 months in advance, even if the episodes are filmed 3 weeks before airing. The recasting & hiring decision was probably made a while ago, long before any “Save Sloane” campaign was launched, to fit upcoming plotlines. IMO, Derringer was too young to make some of the future plans for “Sloane” work. So, just like soap babies, Sloane has been aged & recast. @Harry….All well and good in the sense that I wish Mr. Derringer the best of luck in landing another role that will better suit his particular looks and talent, however, I am so tired of other soaps —which I do not watch— snagging the types of actors that I find desirable…the latest example being Justin Hartley!!!!

I don’t know the exact reason for the actor exchange, but GM looks like he can play sinister very well. Maybe he can be one of those long lost Cassadines the fans have been longing for.

I hope not! Nathan already has so many ties to the show, and he’s a terrible actor. I don’t know where they got Ryan Paevey, but they need to recast THAT role ASAP. Also, Dr. O said the truth about Nathan’s father is “far worse” than Victor Cassadine, and I don’t see how “Kyle Sloane” is worse in any way, unless he turns out to be related to Faison, or a secretly evil double-agent working for Faison or Helena or someone else. My guess is that they decided to beef up the role of agent Sloane with some high power chemistry, experience and soap acting chops. I didn’t dislike Mr Derringer but he never really felt quite comfortable in the role. Not like someone who was going to be carry a front burner story. Anna warrants front burner and Grayson should fit the bill quite nicely.
I’m confused by the recast. Don’t get me wrong, I love Grayson McCouch, and I think he’ll do well, but I thought Robb Derringer was doing well in the role, and he had great chemistry with Finola. It doesn’t make sense for a change midstream, especially when a change isn’t necessary. Robb was very good in his scenes with Finola and Kathleen Gati, both of whom are fantastic actresses. I simply don’t understand why Robb Derringer had to find out about a recast via the internet, when there were so many people doing a Save Sloane campaign. I think for public reasons, they should at least tell whoever is being recast the reason why. Maybe the I Don’t Know What I Did Wrong wouldn’t of been said. Thus the whiny comment also wouldn’t be a big problem in everyone’s eyes.
there’s one thing people won’t be able to complain about when it comes to McCouch: he is a marvellous, classically trained actor with a real understanding of his craft. none of that “looking lost/where am i?/where am i going?” kind of acting from unlike some others on the canvas (that i won’t mention publicly – it’s not nice, is it?

Disappointed in the recast. Rob is a far better pairing than Grayson. He has a more sophisticated quality for Anna. I doubt the recast (once aired) will work, and the role will need to be written out.
I sincerely hope it doesn’t work for GH and their wonderful people who don’t know what they are doing. Maybe they will learn from it and realize that once you cast someone, unless they really aren’t what you expected that you can’t continue to treat people poorly.
GH is trying to get more viewers so they will never worry about cancellation. I know people who never watched GH who now are because of Billy Miller, but they hate GH and can’t deal. I personally like Billy.
I love it when they hire soap stars from cancelled soaps. I wish him well and like the character of Kyle Sloan. [Could have picked a better name.] Robb was a good actor but just not good as an agent and I didnt see any immediate chemistry with Anna. This new guy seems a little older or looks older and more Tristan Rogers like! Glad to see Anna is going to get a love interest since Tristan, in my opinion, mistakenly resigned to play the dull character of Colin Atkins over at Y&R. Welcome Grayson.

GH does know how to cast roles, many of their recent hires (Maura West, William DeVry, Michelle Stafford, Roger Howarth, Donna Mills, Billy Miller) are phenomenal additions to an already very talented cast. Grayson McCouch is another great talent to add to that list. But for this role? I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem like a role that was meant to last very long. Okay RD wasn’t being paranoid when he stated he didn’t understand what he did wrong, because they didn’t get rid of the character just him, ouch. However, I think if they are going for a romance with Anna, then RD was a bit too young and perhaps not as strong as an actor as FH to pull it off. I see how GM would be more a physical, age and acting match with FH to make this a possible power couple in Port Charles. I just hope with change in actor they might make Sloane less a jerk. Robb is actually one year older than his replacement Grayson…RD born in 67 and GM in 68…at first i thought the same thing…RD looks younger but he’s older…i googled him to learn more about him and thats how i found it out!!!
So I guess this is one of the rare times when looking younger than your years works against someone. Soaps are very visual so I guess what your age is on paper means little if your look is wrong for the role. But agree with those who have suggested that he would make a good Peter Blake Dimera on Days.
And Snoop Dogg is 42, but looks 52. Genes and all the things we do to mess up our God-given looks really makes a difference.

This soap is crazy. The amount of people they have on this show is ridiculous. They never wrap up story lines and are just throwing us shirtless hunks who can’t act. Most of the time you need to assume things or conversations happen offscreen. They use the same characters over and over again…..Nina, Franco, Silas, Kiki just to name a few. Concerning this Sloane guy, we never got to see an onscreen reunion between Anna and Duke and now we are supposed to believe Anna is ga ga over this new guy. I’m glad for that, Su. I’m in love with GH….positively inspiring knowing I am not the only ‘younger’ fan of this soap.
The soap is a little crazy and the cast is huge and hard to follow sometimes. the younger crowd thinks this is great, because they have nothing to compare it to. We are all guilty of that at some time in our life though. The reason it is so big with younger people is the time it is on tv. A lot of kids are done with school/classes by that time and are looking for something to watch. I guess I don’t consider myself that old at 32 to agree with shelley’s remarks.

I agree with your assessment Mary. But I have to ask then, why do they keep Ryan Peavey around? He is in scenes with mega talented actors and ruins every scene with his wooden emotions!
Being in a scene with seasoned vets is different than having to pull off a romance with them—I find the best romances on soaps involve actors that are equal talent and range. Nathan and Maxine are working because her character is so youthful and dizzy that his pretty boy appeal is all that is needed. They are cute, but they are hardly a couple I will be investing my emotions into. As for why they keep him, I suppose they see potential. The show excels with a fine cast of extremely talented actors and then there’s Ryan Peavey, he’s had his year, and I’m not feeling the chemistry between him and Maxie. I do love Nathan…I must admit his looks work for me. His acting is not so bad….I just do not like him with Maxi. She is an airhead. When my emotions are not stirred by someone’s plight, then, she/he is not doing her/his job. I agree also with both Timmm and Jeremy. Something is lacking between Nathan and Maxi. Thank you! Kathleen Gati, Donna Mills, Michelle Stafford and even Kirsten Storms are MUCH more talented, seasoned, versatile and convincing actors than Ryan Paevey! I don’t know where they found him but there are SO many more options out there for actors to fit this role, that could do a WAY better job than RP. It’s been a full year and it hasn’t gotten any better with him. But instead, GH feels the need to recast roles that don’t need it, and ignore the ones that beg for a recast, like Nathan.
Its painful. You cannot FF through his scenes because he is tied to important characters and their storylines.
Does your affiliate run the GH bumpers before the show where they show Laura Wright and Ryan Paevey? Of ALL the actors on that show, they showcase HIM. That tells me it is all about looks and not acting ability. How terrible.
I remember him from AW and ATWT. Liked him on AW but thought he was a poor recast as Dusty. I could never buy into him as that character.
They must have made him a good deal as he lives in NY state on a farm so commuting is no small feat.
Still don’t get all the love for the previous actor to play Agent Sloane. People are acting like this guy was the next Marlon Brando or something. I mean, he did a fine job in the role, but he never came across as anything more than a day player just filling a spot. Grayson McCouch is a talented actor, and another talented actor on GH is never a bad thing.
I just hope he does not get lost in the talent stream which rushes strong in Port Charles. I know the stories fly and GH is undergoing a reinvention of sorts but I would like more focus on a few core characters. Don’t like short stories that then end or cliffhang for weeks until characters are back around again.
It’s obvious they wanted someone who looked older.
Please let Y&R hire Derringer as a Billy replacement.

Well, he’s better looking and a better actor who appears to have all his hair (youth). If they can force Burgess on us, then we could learn to accept Robb Derringer. I think he appeared to be too young next to Finola, but might be too old as Billy, but there is something about how he delivers his lines. I would have loved to gotten to see his softer, fun side. @ Domino – that’s just it…there is a definite command and strength to Robb’s voice, it only enhances his delivery of Sloane’s dialogue with fans wanting more and more of Agent Kyle Sloane. Robb is a simplistic and powerful actor…and, I too hope we can “see his softer, fun side” as you mention, before he departs the role. I’m eager to see how versatile he is!…as an actor. 🙂

Can’t stand the personality of the character. How is another actor going to change that. Or did they decide they want to have the character have a personality transplant? character unneeded. How about using Mac, Bobbie, Monica and other characters more.
Anna needs a new romance..or at least a cat and mouse chase! Sloane looks like he might be the new someone in Anna’s life. She’s already been with Robert , Duke, Luke…there aren’t any men in Port Charles right now to pair her with. This could turn out well (though I’m still disappointed at the lack of anything they gave Anna and Duke since both returned to the show.)
Derringer was boring, glad he’s gone. Grayson McCough is the man for the job. I’d rather watch Jordan watch herself in the mirror than watch Nathan and Maxie in scenes together.
Lol…I think they sparkle together. Fresh, cute…first stages of love. Beautiful to look at…fairytale-esque perhaps but they add a light-hearted look at love. And I might be in the minority on this site but I love Ryan in the role…I’ve said this before but there’s something about him…other than his beauty…that comes across as sincere.

I thought Robb was doing a great job and had tremendous chemistry with Finola. And, if “Anna” was supposed to be “Sloan’s” mentor, it would seem she was a bit older than he. I have liked his acting since he was on Another World. I hope they pair him with Anna and they are a dynamic crime fighting team like her and Scorpio used to be. Since the show clearly has no interest in remembering that Scorpio and Anna were each other’s great love, maybe Anna can have another one. Regardless of what road Agent Sloane goes down Robb Derringer played that part well and still has scenes coming up. Like others have said they should of just grabbed Grayson from the very beginning. I don’t even know if GH would be popular without Julexis or Paevey. Although Paevey stumbles over his words all the time.

Right? I have two kids myself, and as much as I completely love and adore my husband, he doesn’t stand a chance when it comes to our kids. He knows that, and he wouldn’t want it any other way.
So, perhaps the judge had his reasons for refusing Maxi visitation rights. Mayhap, he saw something that gave him pause. I am sure Kirsten Storm is a fantastic mom. I think TPTB should allow her to inject some of that motherly love into Maxi. LOL.
Right, CeeCee! We are mothers at conception. My boys have given me purpose. They are my proudest achievement and my greatest joy and I could not imagine my life without them. It just saddens me that they are taking Maxie in this direction. I guess they may rationalize it to be like Felicia was, but shouldn’t they break the cycle? Absolutely, Domino. I have been watching Y&R since I was fourteen. Victoria definitely does NOT have what it takes to be a mother….it is no wonder she doesn’t have custody of Reed. I have a six year old boy and an almost eight-month old baby girl….they both look like angels, with corn-silk hair….so beautiful, my heart aches !! Another refugee from a cancelled out soap that has to get established as a new character The GH variety show is cast heavy yet here’s another one…I didn’t watch this guy so I could care less. Just hope he won’t be another air hog from some old show.

Great choice in McCouch to play Agent Sloan. A love interest between Anna and Kyle would be great. Additionally, the two of them teaming up together for some international intrigue would be awesome. Some of the best GH was the interaction between Anna and Robert Scorpio. Let’s hope the GH writers get this one right. These two could be hot!
I love the recast!!!! I’m REALLY disappointed that he’s gone now!!! I’ve been waiting for Anna to come back & them to continue where they left off. He’s amazing!!!
