‘Guiding Light’ Alum Beth Chamberlin Reveals Cancer Diagnosis and Navigating Through “Tough Times”
Guiding Light fan favorite Beth Chamberlin, played Beth Raines Spaulding on the beloved CBS soap opera from 1989–91, and again from 1997–2009 up until the series was canceled and went off the air after 57 years on television.
Throughout the years, fans knew Beth as an exercise enthusiast with her Kettlebell workout videos in 2008, being a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and as a trainer, and advocating for clean eating. She was an inspiration for many.
However, in a recently shared video post on her Instagram account, Beth revealed that she was diagnosed with early-stage endometrial cancer, and last month had a complete hysterectomy. But, there is a bright side! Chamberlin shared that the day she filmed her video, her pathology report came back as Stage 1A, with no further spread of her cancer and no further treatment necessary.

Wanting to share her journey with others, she made the first of several videos of how she plans on helping others navigate the journey through diagnosis, treatment, finding doctors, and trying to stay focused and grounded mentally to go through the challenge of a cancer.
At the beginning of her video, and in her own words Beth explains, “I need to tell you something that I haven’t shared publicly. And even my family, except for my husband and son. I didn’t know until today. In mid-October I was diagnosed with early-stage endometrial cancer. And on November 21st, I had to have a complete hysterectomy. Today, my final pathology report came back. Stage 1A, no spread, no further treatment necessary. I am lucky.”
While Beth says she will never know or why she got cancer, she is advocating others about the importance of early detection. “Over the next few days, I’m also going to tell you about my journey through this, the mental tools that I used to get through it, the difficulty of navigating the healthcare system with my particular insurance until getting to my surgeon, who I am truly, truly grateful to have had.”
She concluded her video with, “I’ll also tell you the funny parts (of my journey), because there were those. I’ll tell you as much as I can. So follow along, and if you know someone who’s going through their own challenge, send this along. My hope is that I can be a source of information and inspiration.”
Chamberlin captioned the Instagram video simply writing, “Tough times come.” The Guiding Light alum has been married to Dr. Peter Roy since 1993 and they share a son, Luke.
Take a look at Beth’s video below, where she reveals what she has been going through over the last several months and how she has survived cancer.

Cancer is a tough journey mentally and physically. You hear the word by your doctor and it sends Shockwaves through your system. I was diagnosed five years ago with prostate cancer and I had the surgery. This past June, I was declared cancer-free. I am so happy for Beth Chamberlain and I wish her all the best.
Beth is so nice im glad she is getting better. I miss guiding light still to this day
