Head Scribe, Ron Carlivati reveals some of OLTL's Finale plans!

One Life to Live’s Daytime Emmy winning, head writer, Ron Carlivati told Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue on sale now that since he is staying with OLTL when the show moves to The Online Network next year he now has a clear vision of how he plans to end the series in its finale on ABC and then set-up its continuation online.
Carlivati stated, “I had to rethink a lot of things. Even though, yes, it should end like a big normal Friday cliffhanger, you also want to reward people who have watched it on ABC for all these years. They want to have an emotional payoff for a lot of characters they love, so our goal is to do both things: some payoff, some happy endings, and also some big cliffhangers that will keep you guessing so you want to know what happens next.”
Ron also went on to say that knowing several key cast members have signed on to OLTL’s online version that it helped him in the transition of story. “Now that we have a clearer idea, I was able to hone in and focus on how its going to wrap up. We still have a ways to go before that! But it has all been thought through and figured out and I’m really happy with it.”

‘The Bold and the Beautiful’s’ Heather Tom on Working with TV Son Crew Morrow: ‘I’ve Always Wanted to Play an Overprotective, Overbearing Mother’ (Exclusive)
In an ironic twist of fate, and only in the soaps, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Heather Tom’s (Katie Logan) on-screen son is played by Crew Morrow (Will Spencer), the now 21-year-old son of her former TV brother on The Young and the Restless, Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman).
For those who have followed the six-time Daytime Emmy-winning actress’ career, Tom began on Y&R back in 1990 as Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor’s (Eric Braeden) daughter Victoria Newman. She played the role until 2003. Four years later, she joined the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful and has been there ever since.
Next month, at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Heather might add two gold statuettes to her collection with nominations for Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series (which would be her record-breaking 7th for an actress), and one for being a part of B&B’s writing team.

WHICH MORROW IS IN THE ROOM?
In a new livestream conversation on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel, Heather recalled her reaction to seeing Crew Morrow on set when he started on B&B over two years ago, and pointed out the uncanny similarities between her TV son and her former TV brother.
“I just can’t even tell you how genetics is weird,” explained Tom. “Because it’s like they are the same person; the cadence and his voice and the way he laughs. When Crew was on the shows for the first couple of months, it would take me out of the scene. I would be like, ‘Oh, my God! It’s Joshua.’ It’s crazy. It’s so wonderful to have him. I love having him there. We’re so lucky to have Crew. I think he’s a wonderful addition to the Spencer family. I love that Bill (Don Diamont) and Katie’s son is on the canvas in a real way.”
In recent weeks, fans of The Bold and the Beautiful have seen a different side of Katie in regards to her son, Will. She simply does not approve, and does not trust Melissa Dylan (Sydney Bullock) as far as she can throw her. That puts a wrinkle in the mother/son relationship.

“Honestly, I’ve been waiting for this story since Will was born,” exclaimed Heather “To be like the overprotective, overbearing mother, momma bear, I love it!”
As for Katie’s attitude. which many feel may need an “attitude adjustment,” Tom has it all figured out on just how she is tackling her scenes! “I have all kinds of justifications for it,” reveals the multi-talented star.

KATIE SEES ALL SORTS OF RED FLAGS WITH DYLAN
“So. it’s not just Katie being the b-word,” proclaims Tom. “It’s that Will, her son, whom she loves and supports so much, has been constantly saying about Electra (Laneya Grace), ‘This is the love of my life. She’s broken my heart. I love her. All I want to do is get her back.'”
“So I think Katie could be like, ‘Okay, well, Electra’s a little flighty, but my son loves her, so I’m going to try to support that relationship,” explains Heather. “In addition, Will has never told his mother, ‘I love Dylan,’ at all. I think Katie is thinking of telling Will, ‘You should run, not walk, from this girl who seems somewhat obsessed!’ I don’t know where they’re going with the Electra/Will/Dylan triangle, but I think Katie’s very focused on Dylan for a multitude of reasons.”

There was never any doubt that in watching the riveting and emotional scenes on General Hospital which featured Finola Hughes as a PTSD-driven and mentally tortured Anna Devane, that when the climatic moments in Anna’s story aired, that we would not be singing the praises of Hughes. Once again, Finola showcased why she is one of the soap opera genres greatest assets and actresses.
In the key scenes, Anna has had a complete breakdown as she has lured and cornered Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) on Mount Emerson, and even thought through how she would kill her and cover it up, all thanks to hearing the voice and seeing a dead man, Peter August (Wes Ramsey). It’s visions of Peter that keeps egging Anna on to pull the trigger on Britt while in her delusional state.
Before Britt realizes that Anna trapped her in meeting her in Mount Emerson, she is very confused as to why she was all the way out in the boondocks to talk about what happened to her brother, Cassius Faison. However, Britt soon learned that what Anna was about to do is personal, and not professional, as she pulls the gun on her.

ANNA FIRES HER GUN IN GAME-CHANGING MOMENT
When Jason (Steve Burton) shows up to save the say, he tries to talk Anna off the ledge, begging her to not shoot Britt and make one of the greatest mistakes of his life. When Jason figured out Anna felt she needed to kill anyone related to Cesar Faison, he made her think twice, because that would mean, she also would need to end the lives of two of Maxie’s children, James and Bailey Lu.
Anna can’t stop seeing hallucinations of Peter pushing her to shoot Britt. Suddenly and completely overcome, Anna fires bullets straight in the direction of where she sees Peter as she declares this all must end tonight.
After the shots are fired, Anna realized what she had done and just sobbed and shook. It was a devastating and heartbreaking moment for longtime General Hospital fans to see the beloved Anna Devane, super spy, so lost. Anna explained to Jason, after he was able to disarm her, how she was being pushed to kill Britt by her visions of Peter.
EMMY-WORTHY SCENES FOR 2027
In another hankie-inducing moment, Anna just grabs Jason and breaks down in his arms. If these weren’t Emmy-worthy scenes, we don’t know what is, and it must be remembered by Hughes, General Hospital, and hopefully the voting body of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) when Emmy submissions and voting get underway in 2027 for the 54th annual Daytime Emmys.

General Hospital
RATINGS: ‘General Hospital’ Shows Most Gains in Total Viewers Week-Over-Week and Up in Key Demo
The ratings are out for the week of August 24-28 for your favorite broadcast television soaps, and it was ABC’s General Hospital which added the most total viewers and planted itself firmly in third place in its battle with Beyond the Gates in the key demos of women 18-49 and 25-54.
According to Soap Opera Network, all daytime dramas were up year-over-year, and General Hospital was joined by The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful with gains in their total audience viewership, while Beyond the Gates was only slightly off pace for the ratings week.
Let’s take a look at what had viewers tuning-in, starting with General Hospital, who added +79,000 viewers. While still under the 2 million viewers mark (which they can hopefully return in the coming weeks) their overall tally was an average of 1, 935,000 tuning-in, while still up year-to-year +136,000.
GENERAL HOSPITAL
In addition, GH while actually down from the previous week in the 18-49 ratings share, they still out performed Beyond the Gates for third place. However, GH was firmly in third place for the 25-54 ratings share.
The stories that were featured for the week included: Anna’s (Finola Hughes) PTSD and struggle with painful memories tied to Cesar Faison, and her concocting a plan to get rid of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) recording Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) threatening her, and later running into a severe threat from Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) regarding Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) and Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) shooting, and Drew enlisting Ava (Maura West) to gain leverage over Jack, which resulted in Ava drugging him, while Drew went snooping for the evidence Brennan had against him.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Y&R remained in the top spot amongst all the soaps once again with 3,062,000 tuning in, and up +35,000 for the week, while year-to-year still showing strong gains at +231,000 viewers. However, while Y&R remained #1 for the 25-54 ratings share, it fell to #2 in the 18-49 ratings share behind The Bold and the Beautiful.
In story for the week, Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) sobriety in rehab was a focus, as was Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) hitting the Jabot office couch and having sex for the first time, and Lily (Christel Khalil) and Billy (Jason Thompson) battling over control and ownership of Chancellor Industries.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
B&B is continuing to be inch closer to Y&R for the top spot, separated by a little more than 300,000 viewers. For the ratings week, the series posted a total audience of 2,719,000 adding +31,000 eyeballs overall, and like Y&R, is up year-to-year in its performance.
The CBS soap now , now in its 40th season is +217,000 from the same time last year. In the key demos, The Bold and the Beautiful was in the top spot for the women 18-49 ratings share and number two for women 25-54.
In story, the major threat to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) and Daphne’s (Murielle Hilaire) marriages continued as Steffy and Carter swore they would not tell their spouses that the two had a drunken hook-up. But as viewers know now, Steffy is pregnant!

BEYOND THE GATES
Beyond the Gates tallied an average of 1,611,000 total viewers for the week, up +72.000 year-over-year and down slightly in tune-in for the week losing just -36,000 viewers. The CBS soap came in fourth place in the key demos for the week behind General Hospital, with whom they are often trading places for the third spot.
In story, after Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) was released from the hospital, Hayley (Marquita Goings) stuck to her plan, doubling down on poisoning him and even getting caught in a major lie or meeting with Randy (Maurice P. Kerry), as Vernon (Clifton Davis) may be on to her machinations.

Three words: Matthew and Destiny.
ICAM. They better get a happy ending especially since these characters won’t be joining PP in all likelihood. And by happy ending I mean Matthew recovering and Destiny/the baby living.
I’m not really fan of these two but I think they both deserve a happy ending. So I hope Destiny and the baby will be okay. One thing though, Matthew should be cleared of murder. RC was an idiot for dropping that story.
The brilliant Carlivatiesque somehow return to Llanview of the great ROBIN STRASSER, as her Madame Mayor Dorian Cramer Lord, replacing the now over-the-top loser incumbent…

The departure of he Ford brothers and Cutter!!
Never!!! Why do so many people dislike the Ford brothers…?? I like how Jessica and Robert are getting closer, and I like Nate. And will gladly see Cutter in his underwear any day!!
I agree with you Lew. I am so sick of the Ford Brothers….kill them all off. I hate the idea of Robert and Jessica, could care less about Nate being with Danielle and I’d much rather see Cole come back and be with Starr, because James and Starr are totally snoresville….
I think the problem with the Ford brothers is that they were introduced too quickly and given front burner stories when popular vets were languishing in the background. They’re okay actors, but not particularly charismatic and (in my opinion) don’t add much to the canvas. I say write them off and focus on the characters that made the show a success.
Ideally, the show would wrap up neat and tidy and every character would get the ending they deserved (save a cliffhanger or two). When the show picks up online, maybe they could flash forward a year or two, allowing for flexibility in explaining missing characters that perhaps moved away from Llanview.
But that’s just me. I’m probably thinking about it too much 🙂

I pvr OLTL and I find myself fast-forwarding all the parts with the Fords and Cutter (and Aubrey). I do not like who Jessica has become – I know she’s the “integrated” Jess but the last time she was integrated she still maintained the essence of the Jessica that we have known and loved for years – this Jessica is just plain skanky and cranky. (I used to admire how she did such a great job with portraying 2 different characters – now it’s hard to remember which one we’re watching) and much of this is the dynamic (or lack thereof) with Ford. And furthermore – it seems that even the writers are aware that the Ford boys have no character or they wouldn’t feel the need to show them bare-chested every single time. Enough already. I think we’ve seen more man-boob from the Fords than all the men who have every wandered through Llanview combined. I’m sure that they are hoping that it’ll distract us from their profound inability to act.
And Cutter – you know, with any villian, we should love to hate or hate to love or whatever … not with Cutter. He’s just plain irritating and needs to get sucked into a vortex already. I agree with Alan “I say write them off and focus on the characters that made the show a success”. Like the Tina/Cord story – today’s story where Tina gave Todd all the $ was fabulous!
I would like to see Kale Browne return as Sam Rappaport. Saved and kept by Irene Manning to help her with kidnapping and controlling Todd. He was found during the raid by John during raid on compound but too sick to return to Llanview right then.
That would be interesting.
I always loved Kale Browne’s Sam far more than Laurence Lau’s.

These are great ideas and things I too would love to see happen… hope the powers that be are looking and listening! Especially since we know Desperate Housewives is cancelled. The ideal time to sign Tuc Watkins and Robin Strasser to Prospect Park and keep them on OLTL. Reapproach Farrah Fath and JP Lavossier and keep them as well. Hey let’s just keep them all and continue with the show as is… sounds like an idea to me. Especially since I’ve been watching this show since the day it first aired. I miss the days of Larry Waleck, Karen, Joe Riley, the Banner and Dorian was burning up the sheets with Joey Buchanan. It was love “hot” in the afternoon!!!

If they can’t get RH or TSJ to sign on….then a MAJOR story for Viki has to be set up soon with a cliffhanger. I would eagerly anticipate tuning in on TOLN to see what happens to Viki. Viki is the heart and soul of the show and Erika Slezak can turn anything written for her into screen magic.

Erika Slezak is OLTL. I love that woman. Like Todd said , she can act out any part given to her with suckh grace. I love her, and bless her soul for staying on with PP. Erika , thank you so much for 40 years of your acting ability on OLTL. I am one of your top fans.
They need to bring back Susan Haskell and FIX Marty. I hate what Ron did to her, turning this beloved heroine into a psycho. Ugh!

I wish they had a like button for your comment. I think the producer and headwriter are being very much like Chris Goutman in failing to bring back Robin Strasser even for the ABC finale. She is someone who is so important to fans, to almost every character on the show, and IS one of the reasons for the show’s popularity and success.
Couldn’t agree more…OLTL would not be the wonderful show it is if RS had not been a part of it, and a major part at that! A finale without her is unthinkable. Please make her and RH a part of it’s future too.
My recommendation: Sign Roger Howarth, ASAP! OLTL needs its Lord siblings!

I have been watching OLTL for close to 25 years. I hope Ron and the writers give us loyal viewers what we deserve. I am still hoping they will invite Robin Strasser back for at least the final couple of episodes. She devoted so many years to the show she deserves to end its television run with Sleazak and Woods. I am thrilled to see Tina, Cord, Alex, Gabrielle and Lindsey. Just hoping some others like Max,Kevin,kelly,Wanda, Deliah,Rafe would be invited back to celebrate nearly 44 years of OLTL history. I will still be there once it goes online and hoping a cable network will pick it up as well. We love you OLTL.
I just hope that they give the Jarr fans a payoff . As of right now they are pissing on the Jarr fans. I don’t care about Cole/Sole. They were a bore to me. I hope they let Todd/Blair get back together its only right. I’m a long time viewer of this show, so I hope PP keep the history going and do right by there fans. Not to keen about the online thing, but I will give it a try only because I’m a OLTL fan.

Could care less about Natalie. She is a horrible actress, and does this show no honor with her presence. Unfortunately, with her going to PP with John, it looks like a reconciliation is a definate. Until Nat mess’s up again. And she will.

Two things I want to see happen are… Bring back Robin Strasser as Dorian Lord Vickers-Buchanan. The show hasn’t been the same without her. Get real people miss the her shenanigans ans wicked sense of livelihood. Secondly I would like to see James DePavia back and the wickedly handsome, no good, Max Holden. These actors should have never been let go from OLTL. Get them back and take them to Prospect Park with OLTL when it goes on line. I’ve read they are both open to the idea. Thanks

I have no issue with the pre-existing stars/characters, and would love all to continue on the canvas of OLTL. However, I also support those, who choose to move on to other endeavors. It does bother me that some, who want to be included in OLTL Online, are being dismissed. Such is the case with the great Robin Strasser. The minimum that I expect from PP, is that they show Ms. Strasser the respect she is due and reach out to to her with a acceptable offer. The sooner, the better. Thank you.
Robin Strasser is DORIAN, no one else could ever take her place on OLTL.
And, by the by, I really don’t find it productive for “fans” to be trash talking actors/characters. We should be supporting PP, and ALL OLTL cast/crew, to insure a smooth transition to the online network.

Robin Strasser is a vital part of the show and PP would be lucky to have her. She and Erika Slezak and the actors around their stories are what make this show! Lords, Buchanans, Mannings, etc they are what make this show and why they have such a loyal and deep fan base.

Thank you for sharing this news. There definitely should be happy endings. Todd should not be in jail. He should not have been the one to kill “Victor.” Matthew should be out of a coma and in physical therapy. Why are we not seeing Destiny? The actress that plays her is very talented, she should be on screen. Bring back Dorian Lord, if not on ABC, certainly on TOLN. Natalie and John should be back together. Vickie and Clint are boring together if they are married. Friends, flirting is fine- no marriage. Now onto the future on Prospect Park. David Hayward from All My Children should be found to have been a friend of Victor/Todd (and it’s beyond stupid that since he never remembers going by the name of Victor, and everyone hates the original Victor that everyone should have started calling him Victor so easily) and David saved Victor. Trevor St. John should definitely be on TOLN’s OLTL. Marci and Michael should be on. Since Desperate housewives is ending, is ending, “David” needs to be on full time (unless he wants recurring). His humor helps make OLTL special. Too few of these actors have been hired by PP. You better hurry up, or there will be no online OLTL. And again, Robin Strasser needs to be on OLTL!!!!!

Its bad enough that we are losing so many others to this horrific event in soap history but to lose a major Matriarch such as Robin we just can’t afford it. Please bring her back. Us fans rally day after day, phone call after phone call asking for return of characters Robin left only to bring in a replacement. Due to numerous calls we finally got her back. Now We are on the verge of losing her again. This will not be tolerated. Lets not forget those who you bring on will only bring on more ratings. Isn’t that what you want??? Susan Lucci may be the queen of daytime tv. Erica Slezak may be the most consistent talent. However, the Great Robin Strasser is the Grand Dame of daytime. Prospect Park only hurts their bottom line by ignoring the talent that IS Robin Strasser. OLTL without Robin will continue, but the show will not have the sparkle it once had.
My understanding is that Ms. Strasser is planning on moving to LA, as there are no “prospects” for her in NY. I, for one, hope to “walk in the Park” with Ms. Strasser come 1/16/12. Come on Prospect Park….you can make it happen.:)

Can’t quite understand why pp is not making offers to actors who are interested in being on online version of both shows. The more current players you can get the more success you will have. People are looking to see familiar faces and not everyone wants to continue. Snap up the ones who do like robin strasser and Bobby eakes
