Soap fans will always remember Ilene Kristen bursting on to the daytime scene as Ryan’s Hope Delia Reid Ryan Coleridge. Kristen played the role multiple times through the run of the beloved ABC series.

Kristen appeared from 1975-1978, again in 1982-1983, and towards the end of the show from 1986-1989. Delia definitely stirred the pot in the Ryan family and was responsible for many machinations and issues that she caused the clan; all in her efforts to find love.

Fast-forward, General Hospital viewers were in for a surprise back in 2013.  After years of not playing the role of Delia, GH decided to bring the character back to life and hire Kristen to play the biological mother of Ava Jerome (Maura West). Kristen first appeared on the iconic soap opera back in October of 2013 and later made a few appearances through 2015.

In story, it was revealed that Delia was Ava’s mother from an affair with mobster Victor Jerome. Eventually, Delia and Ava were reunited in New York. Later, when Ava was presumed dead, she popped up at Ryan’s Bar to tell her mother that she was indeed alive, and the two schemed to hide Ava’s true identity.

During a livestream interview on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel, Kristen appeared with author Tom Lisanti, in promotion of Tom’s new book, Ryan’s Hope: An Oral History of Daytime’s Groundbreaking Soap  due out on October 24th.

A fan in the live chat, asked if Ilene might be reprising her role as Delia on GH anytime soon, as they really enjoyed the connection between Delia and Ava.

Ilene answered and shared her viewpoint, “It would be nice if Delia lived for real.  It’s like Delia in people’s imaginations.  We’ll see.  I’m sure I will be making some kind of appearance on that show at some point.  It’s too bad, because Delia could be causing a lot of trouble.  They never exploited it for what it was worth.”

So, would you like to see Delia return to General Hospital to help her daughter Ava ? Perhaps, get mixed up in some scandal? Share your thoughts in the comment section.  But first, in case you missed it, check out our conversation with Ilene and Tom on all things Ryan’s Hope below.

Absolutely! bring her back
She is always a pleasure to watch.
And give her a long lost twin sister Roxy

That would be great. Enjoyed her as Roxie on oltl.

now that Gladys is finally gone, a Delia return would be great. Much better character than Gladys but still a buttinski

Have to admit that I miss Gladys. She was such an unlikeable character — someone we loved to hate, which says, to me, that Bonnie Burroughs, was really showing her acting chops. You have to be a really good actress to make people dislike your character so much. Very talented woman. Wherever she lands, I wish her well.

And, I also love Delia and hope that she returns to the GH screen. I loved her in Ryan’s Hope, and especially on OLTL. She would be a great addition to the show. She really adds a spark to whatever role she plays, and always makes me laugh.

Delia can return on the condition that Christopher Durham and Ash Adams reprise their RH roles of Dakota Smith aka Ryan and Johnno Reid Ryan Ava has never met her maternal half brother plus it can turn out that Dakota is actually the biological father of Peter August which makes Bailey Dakotas granddaughter and Dex could be Johnnos son Owen Oney Ryan all grown up.

Some interesting thoughts there. IT would certainly give Dex some ties to PC.

Very good!

I respect admiration for former soaps, but the question is… What Port Charles citizens would you take screen time from to give to another show’s characters that haven’t been mentioned in 35 years? And, Dex is in his 20s – too young for the role you mentioned.

They need to bring back Ryan’s Hope.

They need to bring back the 70’s.

YES

Yes l loved the show

Yes, would definitely love to see her back on General Hospital. She is a wonderful actress, and great character.

Yes. It would be great to see her again!

yes yes yes i miss Delia she one of my favorites

have her run Charlie’s or take over Kelly’s when Carly leaves it. She is always a great scene stealer

Would absolutely LOVE for Ilene to show up again on GH as Delia!!!! I’m still waiting to hear what happened to Delia when one of Mason’s associates took her away for the weekend. (Did I miss that?) Plus, she’ so feisty! It would be great to see her causing fun trouble.

Please please please yes.

Kill off Lois. She adds nothing

Chris McKenna Speaks Out On His Final Day as ‘General Hospital’s’ Jack Brennan with Words of Wisdom to ‘Finish Strong’

Chris McKenna

When Jack Brennan was found dead and floating in the Metro Court pool on the September 1 episode of General Hospital, it unfortunately meant the end of the road for Chris L. McKenna, who had returned to the soaps to play the WSB Port Charles Bureau Chief.

As with any death on the soaps, and a litany of subjects in this whodunit, Brennan’s death opened the door to more story, as fans are still grappling with the decision to kill off the character.

The bittersweet exit was not the first time Chris had been written out of a soap. On The Young and the Restless, Chris played detective Mark Harding from 2014-2015, who ended up dead, and guess who was in that scene? None other than GH’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) when he was over at the CBS soap opera taking on the role of Dylan McAvoy.

Now. on an all-new episode of the That’s Awesome podcast with Burton and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli, GH) released on Friday, September 18, the duo welcomed Chris McKenna direct from Clearwater, Florida.

MAKING SURE PAIGE HERSCHELL WAS OK

During the conversation, Chris explained how his last day went and how he went about lifting the spirits of the GH cast and crew with very special attention to Paige Herschell (ex-Jacinda Bracken).

McKenna shared how he knew for a bit about his departure, before the rest of the cast knew he was exiting the show, explaining. “I had time to process it. It had been a surprise to many, to me, and to many people in the building when it first happened. But by this point, Paige Herschell found out at the same time that she wasn’t going to be coming back. She had her last day, the day before mine.”

“Paige hadn’t been through this before. I had,” shared the soap vet. “I had a show that was on the air and it was in primetime, and then it got canceled. I thought it was devastating, and that I was never going to work again. So, this has happened so many times to me (throughout my career), that I don’t get rattled anymore by it.”

WHEN YOU GET BAD NEWS …

McKenna said he wanted to go out on a high note: “It was important to me to make sure, first of all, everybody else felt comfortable because everybody felt bad and felt sad and felt upset. I was like, ‘It’s fine. We’re okay. I’m going to be fine. So, let’s make sure everyone’s okay.'”

Out of concern for his exiting co-star, Chris recalled, “I wanted to make sure that Paige got her flowers, and she had her attention and got her send off appropriately. I wanted to make sure I hugged her and told her to finish strong. It it was important to me, and also I was working with the kids (Scarlett, Danny). I try to be a mentor to some of the younger actors as well.”

LEAVING PORT CHARLES

The message Chris wanted to impart before he left the GH studios for the last time was, “I’ve been doing this so long, so I wanted to show them how to handle it. When you get bad news, it doesn’t have to devastate you, and it’s not the end of the world, and to make sure everybody’s laughing and having fun. I tried to make the the last day fun for everybody else, so that everybody could enjoy it with me.”

You can check out the full discussion with Chris with Steve and Bradford below.

Now let us know, are you still sad over the departures of Chris McKenna and Paige Herschell? What do you think about Chris’ motivational message to “finish strong?” Share your thoughts via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Casts Australian-Born Wil Traval as the Mysterious Jude

Published

Wil Travel

General Hospital is welcoming yet another new face to the canvas when Australia native Wil Traval join the cast as a mysterious stranger named Jude, who will arrive in Port Charles come October.

Traval becomes the second new Australian-born actor to join the cast. It was back on July 13, that GH viewers first saw Dean Geyer in the role of Dr. Tristan Roberts, whose name is an homage to the late Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio, GH). Could Jude and Tristan be related?

If not that theory, might Jude join the mystery involving JJE (Jasper Jacks Enterprises), which is currently under the investigation by the WSB? Since Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) father, Jasper Jacks, is from down under, could Jude be connected business-wise or otherwise, to the mysterious Hudson (Troy Lennon Appel) who came to Port Charles with several agendas?

FROM DOWN UNDER TO PORT CHARLES

Traval is a native of Victoria, Australia, who had a recurring role in Season 3 of The CW’s Dynasty. In the primetime soap reboot, Traval played Father Caleb Collins, whose faith was put to the test when he developed feeling for Cristal Carrington (Daniella Alonso).

The GH newcomer is no newcomer to TV and film roles with an extensive credits including: Netflix’s Messiah and Jessica Jones, ABC’s Red Widow and Grey’s Anatomy, Arrow, Chicago P.D., Grimm and Once Upon a Time, to name but a few.

In his homeland of Australia, Traval is best known for portraying Dr. Jack Quade in the medical drama All Saints, and Detective Peter Church in the crime drama White Collar Blue.

So far in the last couple of months, General Hospital had brought on the following casting additions, the aforementioned Geyer and Appel, plus Kayden Brenna Tokarski (Scout Cain), Kelly Kruger (Serena Baldwin), Alimi Ballard (William Baines), Kearran Giovanni (Dr. Nichols) and Blythe Howard, who will debut next week on the Wednesday, September 23 episode as Monet.

So, with all the newbies hitting the screens on GH, is hard for you to keep up, or are you excited to see how Jude fits into the storyline with the arrival of Wil Traval this fall? Let us know your thoughts via the comment section.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: The WSB Extradites Nina After Drew Frames Her for Jack’s Disappearance

Published

on

By

Nina Reeves

It was not a good day on the Thursday, September 17 episode of General Hospital for Nina Reeves. However, while it was not a good day for Nina, it was a good day for GH fans because of the performance (as per usual) of Daytime Emmy winner, Cynthia Watros who is at the epicenter of this leg of the story.

In story, Nina has been dragged down to the PCPD and Agent Baines (Alimi Ballard) shows Nina, and her now lawyer, Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst), evidence of Jack (Chris McKenna) Brennan’s wallet found in Nina’s car. Baines says he has enough evidence to extradite Nina immediately.

Nina loses it and fumes and cries. Baines instructs Ric to get his client to cooperate before heading into the squad room to tell Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) that Nina would be transferred to a WSB facility. Now alone with Ric, Nina tells him she is being framed. She did nothing to Jack other than have a public argument with him. Ric asks her if she can think of anyone who would frame her for Jack’s disappearance or possible murder?

After not giving Ric any thoughts as to who could be framing her, Baines returned and informs Nina she is being extradited and taken into WSB custody immediately. Just as a frantic Nina is being carted away, Ava (Maura West) has shown up at the police station and witnessed the whole thing.

AVA LEARNS EXACTLY WHAT NINA AND WILLOW DID TO DREW

Earlier in the episode, Ava got a mouthful from Drew (Cameron Mathison). He informed her that Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Nina drugged him for months with a paralytic drug and he never had a stroke. He also informed her Willow shot him.

Ava was not surprised about Willow shooting him in the back. However, Drew told Ava that Nina tried to kill him when she pushed him into the water at the Quartermaine boathouse while he was locked in his wheelchair.

Drew admits to framing Nina with Brennan’s wallet, although Ava is upset because Nina is her friend. He then reminds Ava that Nina also gave her drugs, induced labor and stole her baby. Ava says Nina is a very different person now than she was then. A vengeful Drew wants Nina to suffer after all she did to him, plus he has a plan for taking down Willow next.

So, what do you think of Nina being taken into custody by the WSB? How will she get out of the new hell she is in? Do you think Ava will help her friend, or continue to help Drew because of their alliance to take down Sonny? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
