Is GH Recasting Morgan Corinthos? If So, Who Would You Suggest For The Part?

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

Soap fans learned just the other week that Daytime Emmy winner, Bryan Craig (Morgan) decided to quit General Hospital to pursue other acting career endeavors.  Thus, leaving a gaping hole in the Corinthos family unit.

There has been speculation that the series will “kill-off” Morgan, but now comes some intriguing casting news via Soap Opera Digest about a casting breakdown that was sent out through Hollywood that sounds like the ABC soap is recasting the role of Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) son!

The casting description notes that the sudser is looking for a “20 to 25 years old, Caucasian male. He is brooding and intense. He is complicated and troubled. Underneath his edge he is a soulful young man trying to figure things out.”

It also notes that the actor who nabs the role would start shooting his episodes at the end of October, which is just over a month away.

So, it’s time for you to put on your casting directors hat, and suggest, which actor known for their work in daytime, or primetime do you think would fit the bill as the new Morgan Corinthos? Who would you like to see GH bring in to jump start the role, if it is indeed a casting breakdown for Morgan?  Share your casting suggestions in the comment section below!

The actor who played Jack Manning on OLTL…maybe not the greatest actor but i believe he would be good at playing moody and angry Morgan as he was as moody and angry Jack…so, he is another OLTL actor…lol

Oh no, Jim! With all the excellent actors to choose from… Little “Sam” maybe…:)

Oh, Rebecca. I thought Andrew played the recalcitrant, moody, hot-headed -child of the ‘rich and famous’ so excellently. And, he was sooo very young, at the time. He could have only gone forward with his acting skill.
By the same token; if a more mature, ‘seasoned’, young actor is sought, then Karen Clark, below, pointed out Robert Scott Wilson is also an outstanding actor. I don’t think you watch Days, but if you did, you would agree, I’m that confident. LOL.

Ummmmmm…let me not say other than I just don’t see Andrew in the role. But, he’s good-looking.

Looked up your other actor. Cute…but not familiar with his acting; I’ll take your word for it. I still like Nic Robuck or Robert Gorrie. They’re going to be big shoes to fill because you know I think Bryan is great in the role.

Speaking of acting chops, I think Ryan Paevy has come a long way. And…just when I thought he couldn’t get any better looking…wow…he’s just exquisite!

Oh, I will not dispute or refute your take on Ryan P. I said this before….but, he looks so much like Guy Williams– the 50’s ZORRO. Soooo hot!! I know he’s before our time; but my grandparents have a caravan of all these wonderful ‘old’ shows. THE HONEYMOONERS is another of my favorites. Hilarious.
Robert Scott Wilson is sure to win the Emmy.( I hope–he deserves it) . His character, Ben, is in jail, right now. LOL. He was the best bad, bad boy, killer, I had seen on a soap in a long, long time.

Here, here! I appreciated Craig in the bipolar storyline. But, I really don’t want that to be a running theme in the soap. Every time I see the character of Morgan now, all I can think of is the condition. Even over the character. Ava is messing with his meds & all of his decisions are suspect. So, once again, it’s all about the condition and how he’s not to be held responsible by viewers for what he’s doing. It’s exhausting as a viewer to continue to excuse him. Just let the character leave for a while – like a… Read more »

Yes, Soaphound. I can see Casey acting as Morgan. He is a very versitile actor. Look how well he went from a self-destructive character to a respected cop.

Sonny (and Ric, too, for that matter…) is described as half-Cuban courtesy of his mother, Adela and one-quarter each Greek and Irish, from his father, Mike Corbin (aka, “Corinthos?”) Oh, and Ric’s father, Trevor Lansing, was also Caucasian, although I don’t know if his ethnic background was ever specified. Age doesn’t matter anymore. I recall when Spencer was born. Courtney died and Carly was helping take care of Spencer long before she married Jax and had Jocelyn. Now, Jocelyn is considerably older than Spencer. They can rewrite soaps and make Morgan older than Michael! Reminds me of Joey Martin on AMC. He was 8 years old one day, came back 6 months later from college and in his 20s.

@Joe.
I agree that age does not matter, in many cases. I have said so many times, myself…..the age discrepancy is often so ridiculous.
But, in this instance, I honestly feel that Nick Stabile is all wrong. He looks older than Carly….she has a youthful appearance, as it is. I just can’t see Nick, as Morgan, call Carly; ” Mom”. What about Sonny? With Maurice’s sense of humor….I can just imagine his reaction…..The picture just doesn’t compute, in my head. LOL.
However, I am in no position to naysay anything anyone says….c’est tres possible!!

I think killing Morgan is a bit much, but recommitting him to mental hospital far away is better. The knowledge that Ava changed Morgan’s meds is just the PUSH Sonny needs to destroy the Jerome family.

Justice

Morgan as a character and GH is ripe and ready to pull off a suicide storyline. There are so many intriguing storylines that would result from it: 1) Ava’s guilt over messing with Morgan’s prescription and possible ramifications if she is caught; 2) Carly’s guilt for not doing something when she knew something was wrong; 3) Kiki wondering if it had to do with their fighting; 4) Sonny dealing with the guilt of passing his disorder on to Morgan and losing his only biological son. Suicide is the #2 killer of youth. Soap operas need to up their story telling… Read more »

Yes, Justice. It would make sense, due to his disorder. However, I do not like this type of send-off. It has no positive message for the youths who are afflicted with this disorder. The message should be one of hope….not despair!!!! My opinion only.

KansasGuest

Great idea about the suicide angle! But, I have to agree with Celia because it wouldn’t really be about mental health because of Ava’s involvement. Morgan was taking his meds correctly and was on a better path. If suicide is going to be part of a storyline, it should be with a character who is NOT taking an active role in his/her mental health, and who is completely avoiding his situation, to show the downfalls of doing so. I don’t want other characters beating themselves up over something that they had no control over. GH has 2 good psychiatrist/psychologist characters… Read more »

I think it’s a bad idea to kill off Morgan, and recasting him doesn’t feel right either. I think they should take the character off the canvas for a while (along with Kiki) and send him to school or something. Have him return in a year or somewhere down the line if Craig chooses to return, or consider a recast at that time. Not now. GENERAL HOSPITAL: Port Charles Learns a Bomb Caused the Explosion as Lives are Forever Changed

This week’s General Hospital has reminded us all of why we love daytime drama and why GH possesses some of the finest performers in the genre.

Wednesday’s episode featured several emotionally-charged and gut-wrenching moments as loved ones find out the fate of several people in crisis, or have to deliver terrible news in the wake of the bomb explosion at the Floating Rib, which already had taken the lives of Dev (Ashton Arbab) and Dustin (Mark Lawson).

Courtesy/ABC

As we begin, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) has a passed-out Lulu (Emme Rylan) in his arms and brings her to Portia (Brook Kerr), who sends her for tests.  And in true soap opera fashion, just as Lulu was presumably going to tell Dane she still loved him and wanted him back (following Dustin’s death) … he never heard what she had to say.

Laura (Genie Francis) fills in Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) that Dev did not make it, and then Liz decides to tell her son, Cameron (William Lipton) the heartbreaking news while he is recovering from his injuries.  When she does, Cam is overcome and devastated as his mother holds him in her arms.  Meanwhile, Carly (Laura Wright) is filling-in Trina (Sydney Mikayla) and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) about Dev’s untimely death.

Later, with Laura present, Portia tells Lulu’s loved ones that she has a cerebral contusion, and that there is a a traumatic brain injury which has caused swelling on the brain.  Laura and Dante look on devastated.  Portia then says they have already rushed Lulu to urgent surgery.

Julian (William deVry) is with Ava (Maura West) at Wyndemere.  She is attempting to hide him there, while he figures out his next step after planting the bomb.  However, Jason (Steve Burton) shows up looking for Julian now that Sonny found out that a bomb caused the explosion that ravaged the Floating Rib.  From that point on calls are made to ensure Sonny’s family is protected as a mob war is about to go down. Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jason believe all roads lead back to Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober).

Courtesy/ABC

Jason leaves Wyndemere before spotting Julian; leaving a distraught Ava to come down hard on her brother … he has two choices…  leave Port Charles, which she will help him do, or stay, and if he stays, she will not help him or be a part of his life.  While they are discussing his next move, they learn Lulu is now in critical condition from the bomb.  Ava tells Julian in no uncertain terms that everything he has done has come with a cost.  Jason shows up at the Corinthos home where Sam (Kelly Monaco), who is not happy about any of this, finds out along with Carl,y that Jason believes he was the target at the Floating Rib.

Courtesy/ABC

As Liz is struggling to hold it together with Franco (Roger Howath) having brain surgery, she speaks with Scott (Kin Shriner), who did not know of his son’s tumor.  She shares with Franco’s dad that Franco is worried he will wake up a very different person.  Liz is told Franco is out of surgery, and is in tears over his hospital bed.  She prays he will be alright and Franco wakes up!

Portia tells Nikolas (Marcus Coloma), Laura, and Dante that Lulu is out of surgery but in a coma, which Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) points out is normal in these situations. Dante goes to sit by Lulu’s bedside and begs her to wake up.

Courtesy/ABC

Then, in devastating news for Laura, Lucas (Matt Trudeau) gives her the real 411 on Lulu.  He tells Laura that Lulu’s brain started swelling the minute she hit her head at the Floating Rib, and that her injury got worse the longer she was not checked out.  Laura achingly realizes Lulu was so worried about Dustin that she never was immediately checked out for head trauma.  Lucas lets Laura know that Lulu’s recovery could take a very long time, if she recovers at all.

Heart-tugging performances throughout the stellar episode were given by: Dominic Zamprogna, Genie Francis, William Lipton, Rebecca Herbst, and Maura West in very intense and dramatic scenes.

Ashton Arbab Says Farewell To General Hospital: “It Was Such An Honor To Have Worked Alongside Of Such Talented Actors”

Yesterday, viewers of General Hospitals witnessed that as a result of the bomb explosion at the Floating Rib; it meant the end of the road for a couple of characters.  One of those was Dev, and thus ends Ashton Arbab’s over two-year run in the role.

In key scenes, Dev dies in the ambulance ride to the hospital and thanks Sonny (Maurice Benard) for making him a part of the family and tells Sonny to tell Josslyn (Eden McCoy) that he is sorry.  Will Sonny recall what Dev said and pass that on to Joss? Will anyone figure out Dev’s duplicity in keeping Joss and Cameron (William Burton) apart? Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, Ashton took to Twitter on Tuesday and shared these words of praise and ‘thank you’ for his time on the ABC daytime drama series.

Arbab expressed: “I am forever grateful to Producer Frank Valentini and Mark Teschner (casting director, GH) for this amazing opportunity. It was such an honor to have worked along side of such talented actors and I’m beyond blessed for your friendship. Most of all thank you General Hospital fans.”

So, what did you think of Dev being killed-off? Will you miss Ashton? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
