Is Lisa Rinna Getting A Daytime Talk Show That Will Replace Meredith Vieira's Failed One?

A report from Page Six has that a previously rumored new NBC talk show in development starring Lisa Rinna as one of the main panelists/anchors, may just be the replacement for The Merdeith Vieira Show which has been cancelled after its second season.

The RHOBH and former DAYs star would appear in the new vehicle with these other panelists:  Former Party of Five star, Scott Wolf, R&B singer Kelis, and comedian Al Jackson.

A source told Page Six that the Rinna project: “could very well be a Meredith replacement.  Since they were considering a panel format for Meredith’s show, but it didn’t work.”

However, a source close to NBC says nothing with the Rinna proposed talker is set in stone noting: “Nothing has been green-lit or sold to a launch station group.  And a source close to NBC made no comment on if the series is even in development.

If Rinna would return to a talker, this would make her return to the format after starring with Ty Treadway for several seasons on SoapNet’s Soap Talk.

So, what do you think of this proposed talker featuring Rinna? Comment below!

Lisa was in the running for Live when Kathy Lee quit. She has a lively, devilish personality and could certainly handle a talk show. I’m not interested in much of anything on daytime but I watch a little Live, Dr Phil and Oz type shows. During the holidays the Chew is OK for the seasonal content.

Just say no to talk shows and yes to soaps!!

Talk shows are here to stay, way cheaper to produce. The soap GH needs to go. Fed up with GH, just cancel it and replace it with a game show. Days will be renewed soon. Love Days.

Yaawwwn!…enough said!

Yeah… really no one really wants to hear her opinions…. we get enough of her on Housewives if you ever tune in…

Oh no, PLEASE not another lame ass talk show. Have the networks not learned anything from all the failed talk shows??? We want soaps with characters that we care about and grow up with not these insipid shows that only can get reality stars to come on….nobody cares about what the Real Housewives of (insert city) are doing or the Bachelor/Bachelorette are up to….please give us back our daytime dramas………

Replace all the soaps with reality shows. More Kardashians please.

I agree with you. The soaps will all be gone. More talk shows please and I love the Kardashians too.

Ew no…the KRAP-TRASHions are everywhere as it is…

Ew, lowest common denominator of viewing.

Andy Cohen?

yes, that’s what the world needs….more Kartrashians….they have their own network…it’s called E TV which means enough already….haha….if they want more lame talk shows or reality shows leave them on Bravo…..NBC, ABC and CBS need to get back to great storytelling shows with real people…we don’t want anymore talk shows that can’t stay afloat…at least come up with a 30 minute soap…..

I love Lisa Rinna, but no no no. We want a new soap. Dont bother us, with another talk show. If this talk show happens, it will fail yet again. Bring a new soap for NBC, but we know that will never happen. Too expensive to produce.

Meredith was great, but if she is cancelled, we deserve to have a soap put on the air. The talk shows don’t get the steady ratings a well-written soap can get.

Meredith was boring as hell, thank god Meredith is cancelled. i dont dislike her, she seems like a sweet heart. But her talk show tanked and never caught on.

Boring is right! And Tyra even left her own show…LOL

Wish ABC never ended that show! If it was sports it would still be on 🙁

I think talk shows are dead! Especially on daytime. BUT, Lisa is a gabber. She did something on the Soap Network years ago and she was entertaining. However, I would match her up with her husband Harry. Enough of this panel crap. Everyone talks over everyone else and the guests all look like their heads are going to spin off their bodies!

Please no. Lisa Rinna is too annoying to have her own chat show. I doubt we need another talk show. I rather watch interview shows like Larry King Now instead.

Lisa Rinna is a smart lady, she is not annoying. You are. Lmao. Jealous of her?. You need to go to bed and take your meds.

Hi Kelli…

Lisa is annoying…. we all have opinions…my problem is that she is out there desperate to do anything to keep her relevant…. she recently had herself waxed on tv…no class..sheer desperation.

I love you Kelli, you are straight to the point. No bs with you. You go girl.

I agree LR is a smart lady. Jealous of her I am not. How your message got past moderation I’ll never know.

I enjoyed Lisa Rinna on Dancing with the Stars. I came to see she wanted to learn and improve her dancing skills. I even think she is a great addition to RHBH although I elect not to watch the show. I don’t care for the way they have laid bare Kim Richards troubles. My experience with her as talk host is Talk Soap and that is enough. However, I think Lisa makes a great pinch hitter when one is needed, I would like to see her co-host DWTS.

Hi, Kelli,
I can see you are very passionate about your feelings for Lisa. I understand since I find myself constantly defending Michelle Stafford. As a rule I try not my best not to cross the line with my fellow-posters, unless I am ‘hit’ first.
We all express our opinions here, as we see things. It is personal and that is the point. We do not have to agree with each other. Mr. Fairman specifically asks what we think about a situation or other. We answer with our opinions. There is no need to attack other posters because their opinions do not agree with ours. We can all put our points across without insulting each other. Enjoy your day, Kelli. Winter has finally arrived in NYC area and suburbs. Brrrr.

Agree with you. Cannot imagine anyone watching this but we still have The Talk, The View, and The Chew still on. I do not get it, I do not know how people watch these shows. Bottom line……talk shows consist of not the smartest people giving their opinions. Who cares what these people think!? Thank goodness the popularity of the medical info commercials has lessened.

Agreed. Very annoying and have no interest in watching her.

Lord, help us!!

PS.
Most of these ‘illuminati’ ‘ wanna-be’s’ cannot form an intelligent sentence. Here comes another show whose panelists gather to talk about nothing. Can these producers/directors get the message? Foremost on every news report is the American makeshift ( ad hoc) royalty, THE KARDASHIANS. Ha! Good Luck!

AGREE 100%…………….

I would think there is only so much of any interest one can talk about on a talk show, being there are 10 other shows talking about it..
As for diets there have been a million of them on every talk show..
Talk shows are duller than watching hair grow on a statue..

talk show are afternoon noise ..

I think watching hair grow on a statue would be pretty amazing!

Word on the street is the Pillsbury Doe Boy wants his own cooking show.

Lol too funny Lou.

Love that one, Lou. Innovative!!!!! Keep ’em coming!
I am so tired of looking at these plastic women, looking starched and ironed….especially those from ‘something or other wives’ shows. I don’t mind those with a modicum of academic background or experience in journalism. But, to have these women/ people engage in talk shows which, I would think, encompass a myriad of subjects, last a few months ( either from lack of knowledge or public interest) and then get sucked into oblivion……’the lost cases vacuum’. I, for one, will not indulge in watching Lisa’s fake lips move, as she tries to speak intelligibly.

Haha .. good one @CeeCee. There was a commercial with her the other day and my son & daughter said there is that lady with the fake lips – she looks sooo stupid. :(. I thought it was just me.

@Abruzzfan.
No, it isn’t just you….LOL. most people think it, but are afraid of saying it. You know, politically correct. I don’t know….maybe I shouldn’t judge. I wonder if I had thin lips if I would do it? I doubt it, though. I am too chicken to do anything to my body or inject it with any kind of foreign substances. I think we can all accept so much, within reason, but when some of these women AND men reach beyond the reasonable by disfiguring themselves, it’s hard not to notice….especially if they are on display. It is sad for all the girls in our society who grow up thinking this is the norm. Look at the role models before them.

Her fake lips look like plastic doll buttocks glued on sideways…lol

@jimh.
You stop that, Jimmy. I have a stitch on my side from laughing….gotta run. ….helping my son with homework. Later, my friend.

Hey, Lou…your comment is PRICELESS…LOL!!!!! Furthermore, to me, the Pillsbury Doughboy is A LOT LESS ANNOYING than Lisa Rinna…MORE LOL!!!!!

Just saying……….

I think you mean “Dough” Ha ha!! Duh!

I won’t watch but don’t care as long as she replaces Meredith and not DOOL!

again..ONE LIFE TO LIVE please

Get over it, OLTL will never come back.

Stranger things have happened…yes I doubt it ever will but sometimes it’s more just to let ABC that it is not forgotten. What would you like to see on network daytime tv ?

I know, Nancy. But, it hurts. I will love that show forever. It’s in my blood. Lol.

I think it’s time for something new. A new talk show is not it. A talk show just tanked. Why do they think another won’t? Show reruns of The Love Boat. I know I loved watching that when I was home sick from school.

Let’s hope not. Nothing against Lisa Rinna. It’s just that we’re talked out.

Succinctly said. Seems every talk show follows same design format, same guests, same content, and same lack of importance to me. And the wrinkle of a talk panel is no longer new, just annoying.

I vote no on over exposed Lisa Rinna….a new innovative riveting talk show starring Lisa Rinna? I don’t think so.

These talk shows are done, over…. those days are gone

Aha, so I see the daytime execs are about to do what they do best: continuing to do the same old things even though they are not working. (Maybe it’s the ONLY thing they know how to do.)

OK, I get that they don’t want to invest money in new soaps, but talk shows have been more miss than hit over the last decade or so, so they aren’t the answer for daytime programming either. I’d suggest the suits muster up their brain cells and come up with a new plan—if they can.

I really enjoyed Soap Talk her old talk show on SoapNet, but Ty Treadway carried that show. I like Rinna in small doses but she was extremely annoying as a host on that show. she made everything about her. I’ll never forget Lisa’s interview with Bree Williamson who called Lisa out on it and said during her interview something to the effect, “Enough about you, let’s talk about me.” Sorry but this will be yet another ill-fated talk show. I like her and I wouldn’t watch it.

How many talks shows have to fail before the networks at a bigger and more loyal audience with soap viewers? The only show of this kind I like is The Chew, and that’s because they talk mainly about food! The rest of the shows are pure crap. I like Lisa Rinna but don’t see her adding much to the format.

I wont watch. ABC just cant get it that they and the other networks dont need any more stupid talk shows. Reruns of old soaps would be better and probably cheaper to show.

Are they ever going to learn that the audience doesn’t want another talk show?

We want more talk shows, and less soaps. Soaps are finished period.

I do like Lisa Rinna—I’d give her talk show a try (just an episode or three). The only new talk show that I’ve like during the last decade was The Bonnie Hunt Show. She was great, but like most only lasted two seasons. All the new talk shows seem to peter-out after a season or two, so why (as a tv viewer) make the investment in them?

Charday, I read your praise of the Bonnie Hunt Show and had to chime in. Why this show did not last beyond 2 years is astounding! Bonnie is a warm, witty, charming, respectful lady whose attitude alone was perfect for talk show host. In addition, this show featured many inspired, elaborate, comical skits. The show was often brilliant, in fact.

Yet I feel the way you do about investing time in a new TV show (daytime or nighttime) when the networks don’t allow the shows time to find an audience. And great quality doesn’t seem to matter in these decisions…

Bonnie Hunt is annoying and not funny at all. Her talk show tanked after 2 years. Kim Kardashian will be getting a talk show next year on ABC. I hope they cancel GH. kim kardashian is a lovely smart business lady.

Didn’t Bonnie Hunt have another show that tanked after 6 episodes?

Yes, Bonnie Hunt’s talk show was brilliant. I’ll never forget some of her heartwarming stories about her life, like when she was a nurse and was taking care of a man just after her father died. It’s on you tube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_U_qUgxcMU

If the link doesn’t work, just search on youtube for 11/10/09 – Bonnie’s Touching Story About Her Dad – THE BONNIE HUNT SHOW.

Charday, yes, your link worked. Thanks for sharing it with me. I’m so glad you mentioned Bonnie, even if some of our friends here have a different opinion… 🙂

One other thing, Charday, the clip you provided illustrates perfectly Bonnie’s compassion and warmth. Those stellar qualities of Bonnie’s were pervasive in her show. I also liked her generosity with her writers and staff, giving them plenty of individual screen time to shine. 🙂

Yet another talk show I’ll never watch…

The juxtaposition of this article on Lisa Rinna with the article on DOOL’s Joseph Mascolo is priceless. I recall a very public spat between the two actors…

As for Mr. Mascolo, I wish him all the best and I value his contributions to daytime. As for Ms. Rinna, I will censor my own commentary on her…

Gotcha, James. Must be a very salacious commentary. Lol.

Hey CeeCee! Happy New Year!!

Not a big fan of Rinna, I must say… LOL! I came late to DOOL, but one thing I always found ridiculous (storywise) is that Lauren Koslow was supposed to be the mother of both Bryan Dattilo and Lisa Rinna!

@Jamesj75. Happy New Year to you as well, my friend.
Yes, James; we must pretend that on soaps it is possible to give birth at the acerbic age of 6, 7, 8 years old and so forth. At least, Bryan Dattilo’s age is en par….more reasonable. I suppose there is a resurgence of ingenues at the ripe age of 52 and up. What gets me is that whenever a young character is introduced, fans demand their vets to take the place of the lovelorn and volatile behavior of teens. I do not particularly like this new batch of youth on Days, but , young characters must be introduced and harvested to continue with the soap’s longevity. Most fans want the older characters frozen in time. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Isn’t that how all of them started? Hope was supposedly fifteen when she was introduced to the DOOL stage. But, it seems to me, fans want to keep her encapsulated in another dimension and drink from the fountain of youth. Then some of us are called ageists when bringing this very thing up. Lisa Rinna is 52, Lauren 62…..seriously, James. They look the same age to me.

‘Acerbic’, as ‘unripe’, in this context.

It will fail. TPTB at the networks just don’t get it. We don’t want another talk show with more drivel. They’re all the same. Yawn.

You’re most likely right, Rodd. Maybe it’s just sensationalism,….purposely done to gain publicity? Who knows? I do not watch talk shows any longer. So, who really cares?

CeeCee and Rodd: I agree with both of you!

@CeeCee: I am replying to you here regarding our above discussion. Thanks for your reply and kind words! And thank you for going the extra mile and providing the ages of Lisa and Lauren; I agree with your assessment about them looking the same age — and both are beautiful, no doubt. You made me laugh with our comment, “resurgence of ingenues at the ripe age of 52 and up.” If I’m not mistaken, Susan Lucci (and I adore her) played an ingenue during her entire tenure at AMC…

The longevity of several soap stars is truly astounding. Yes, perhaps the viewers want to keep them forever young. And you’re right about soaps needing to inject the next generation of characters (hopefully with direct ties or lineage to established characters) to keep the franchise going. With Bo Buchanan on OLTL, they kept bringing in younger and younger love interests, I guess in part, to keep him young.

Lord knows, I try to stay young. But to quote Stevie Nicks (“Landslide”), “I’m getting older, too.” Yet I stay active, I feel much younger than I am, physically and psychologically. And I’m sure there are some who know me who would be willing to testify that I am clearly immature!

And while I am on here talking about myself (maybe channeling my inner Erica Kane), as I get older, I am more appreciative of my blessings and the wonderful family and friends who occupy my life. CeeCee, YOU are one of those friends! My best to you and your family!

@Jamesj75.
Lol, James. Believe me, we all have that childish part in our personality which will never fade. My dad calls me an imp for a reason. I have a seventeen year old sister….believe me, we talk about everything….even the most stupid subject.
I don’t find Lisa Rinna anything to wow about….but Lauren? I can only hope I will age as gracefully. I also love her character, albeit Kate is not too popular.
I am not disputing age….more power to them. My own mother who is fifty-five looks in her late thirties. I just do not understand why Hope, unlike her contemporaries, such as Jen, Lauren etc. are given roles that do not entail these extravagant activities not becoming a woman that age. I truly believe it is deliberately done to put her en par with Rafe. That is where the PTB are headed. That is my issue. The subterfuge and shenanigans.
Erica Kane was in a league of her own. She was ageless. I can appreciate all these actresses longevity, more power to them…..Just so youth is given a chance.
You are the nicest person on this board, James….sweet as honey, my friend. Your words fill my heart with joy and peace…..something all of us need. These boards provide so much comfort for me….sharing personal thoughts. I have lost much in my life, but, I also gained much. The love of family and friends. Thank you, James. ‘Night.

Thanks for your kind words, CeeCee. I am truly grateful and yet not worthy… Just a quick reply for the moment.

I understand your points about the writers’ approach in writing for women in their 50s and up. Yes, Hope is a case in point. I may be in the minority, but I like Lauren with Rafe. There are worse fates for the younger Rafe… 🙂

I can tell how much you enjoy these boards! And I am so happy for you and energized by your enthusiasm and class. You are in a league of your own! Please take care, Friend!

Haven’t they figured out yet? People don’t care who is hosting a show, no one wants to watch stupid shows anymore. Unless your name is Oprah or Ellen, talks shows will continue to just drop off.
Also, as much as I liked Rinna on Days, that doesn’t mean I could handle her babbling on a talk show all day playing herself.

A TALK show starring HER?
Haven’t we had enough of her lip?

Bil, that’s biting commentary! And you made me laugh!

Love your pun, Bil. How apropos! Lol.

OMfreakingG! Do they NEVER LEARN?!

Lisa Rinna is so grating on the nerves. Yeah, brilliant idea to cast her and a bunch of has-beens because we just need another panel talk show. There is just so much stuff to talk about. Let’s cut ALL programming all together and run panel talk shows around the clock.

Love your post , Chrystie…cut to the chase.

RIGHT ON, Chrystie!!!!! Lisa Rinna is annoying enough already!!!!! Anyone that would give that Lisa Rinna chick her own daytime talk show clearly has ROCKS IN THEIR OWN HEADS!!!!! TOTAL B-L-E-C-H!!!!!!! Idiots.

Add Ty Treadway to panel with Lisa Rinna and you would have a hit on your hands. They were golden together on SoapNet

That show will not be very successful. The general opinion of Lisa Rinna is that she is very annoying. Her gig on RHOBH proved how annoying she actually is. She thinks she got the talk show job because of her actions on RHOBH. If that’s how you have to act to get another job….I guess I was raised differently. I won’t watch it.

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes

Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.

Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.

Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Photo: NBC

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.

What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?

STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

Photo: JPI

Taping Doug’s funeral must be a hard day for Susan. Are you checking in with her to help hold her up through this?

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.

There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.

STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.

Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?

STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Photo: JPI

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.

STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?

STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.

How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?

STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes between Stephen and Susan Seaforth Hayes come December and Doug’s funeral and surrounding episodes? Do you hope that DAYS might bring the character of Steve Olson back for a longer stay? Comment below.
