Is The Search For An Actor To Play The Role Of Y&R's Adam Newman Back On?
Fans of The Young and the Restless who have been hoping that the recent “sighting” at CBS studios reported by Soap Opera Digest may have meant that fan favorite Michael Muhney is definitely returning to the role ofAdam Newman … may have to “hold their horses!”
Now comes word via Nelson Branco that a casting breakdown has gone out again that looks to be a search for Muhney’s successor in the pivotal role of the black sheep of the Newman clan.
According to the breakdown: The show is looking to cast the role of Aaron. It’s a contract role, with the length of contract negotiable. Starts late July 2014.
The casting notice goes on to say, “Caucasian Male. Mid 30’S to Very Early 40’S. A LEADING MAN who is SEXY, Appealing and VERY charming. He is smart! A businessman who can out maneuver even the shrewdest. NOTE: Actor MUST be AT LEAST 5’10 and have NO ACCENT PLEASE. MAJOR CHARACTER. MUST CONSIDER ACTORS WITH STRONG CREDITS.”

‘Brilliant Minds’ Officially Canceled After 2 Seasons at NBC; DAYS Alum Al Calderon, OLTL Alum Teddy Sears and Zachary Quinto Among the Cast
After languishing on the bubble for months, on Friday, NBC handed down the decision and canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.
Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
The final six episodes of what will now be the end of its second and final season were already set to air beginning on May 27, after being pulled off the network schedule in February as viewership saw a steep decline. Brilliant Minds second season became the lowest-rated drama on linear TV viewing, which didn’t bode well fo a network renewal, although it had its hard core fan base.

There are some exceptional notables in the cast along with the talented Quinto that includes Days of Our Lives alum, Al Calderon (ex-Javi Hernandez) who joined the series in its second season as Nurse Nico Silva, and One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) who plays Wolf’s love interest and fellow physician, Dr. Josh Nichols.
The rest of the talented cast includes: Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, and Brian Altemus.
In an ironic twist of fate on Thursday, April 30, Days of Our Lives finally revealed the actor who was Al Calderon’s successor in the role of Javi, when they announced that actor Jacob Martinez had now stepped into the role. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episode, Calderon left in the spring of 2025, but will be seen in the part for the final part this month, and then on June 20, Martinez debuts as Salem’s new Javi.
Taking to his Instagram with a sorrowful and heartfelt post on the Brilliant Minds cancellation was Teddy Sears who wrote, “Thank you, Brilliant Minds. I got the call today and I didn’t want to hear, but I knew that it would come, You have to be a particular vintage to quote Don Henley from memory, but that’s the line that came to mind earlier today after I got off the phone with our inimitable showrunner Michael Grassi who delivered the news that NBC has cancelled the series”.

Sears continued, “To say that I feel sad to be moving on from these stories, this character, and this cast and crew just doesn’t paint the entire picture. I’m sad, sure. But I’m also deeply grateful that I got hired to play this part, so proud of the stories we told, and the other actors I got to play alongside. I’m excited to see what comes next, what adventures await, and terrified to be without a professional home. A quick and heartfelt thank you to everyone, all over the globe, who found us and found themselves in us, in our characters and in our stories. We wouldn’t have been able to tell them without you. And we still have 6 fresh episodes yet to air, and I do hope you tune in enjoy the remainder of the series. They’re the best we’ve done.”
As he wrapped up his sentiments, Sears signed off with, “The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I figured out I have to learn again. I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But everything changes…Thank you, Brilliant Minds.”
The medical drama was created and executive produced by Michael Grassi alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra.

‘General Hospital’s’ Jonathan Bennett Receives 3 ‘Critics Choice Real TV Awards’ Nominations for Hallmark Series, ‘Finding Mr. Christmas’
Many things are coming up roses for Jonathan Bennett! On the heels of the news that he is set to debut this month in the role of Joe Fitzpatrick on General Hospital, who is rumored to be a new love interest for Lucas Jones (Van Hansis), comes the news that Bennett’s reality series, Finding Mr. Christmas has received 3 nomination for the Critics Choice Real TV Awards.
Bennett’s Hallmark Channel series finds itself in tough competition alongside fellow nominees: RuPaul’s Drag Race (MTV), Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix), Survivor 50 (CBS), Top Chef (Bravo) and The Traitors (Peacock). In addition, Jonathan himself is nominated for Best Show Host and the series participants as the Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series.
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) revealed the nominees for the eighth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards on Thursday, which recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. Winners will be announced online at CriticsChoice.com on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 9:00am PT/12:00pm ET.

Taking to his Instagram to celebrate the nominations, GH’s Bennett, enthused, “3 Critic Choice Nominations! I’m so proud of the FINDING MR CHRISTMAS and to be in the company of all the legends in all these categories is so surreal! Congrats to Hallmark Channel and to our nominated cast and nominated show and everyone who made this magical show possible. This is crazy! This gives FMC 6 Critics Choice nominations in 2 years. Not bad for a little show on Hallmark Channel. What are your thoughts on our show?” Jumping first into the comment thread was one of his new GH co-stars, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) who expressed, “Yeah buddy!!!🔥🔥”
In the series, Bennett, the host and co-creator spends eight weeks guiding 10 aspiring actors through a series of “festive face-offs” and acting challenges alongside actors like soap opera notables, Hunter King (ex-Summer, Y&R) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). Along the way, they develop their skills and a bond with one another. The show, which is available on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Plus, highlights LGBTQ+ representation with openly gay contestants vying to be the next Hallmark star.
It should be noted that Traitors received the most Critics Choice Real TV Award nominations with 6 nods, followed by Dancing with the Stars with 4.
Bennett is very familiar to daytime fans having started his career as JR Chandler on All My Children in 2000-2001, before landing the part of Aaron Samuels in the motion picture, Mean Girls in 2004 starring Lindsay Lohan, which would become his breakout performance.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?
On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.
As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.
Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.
BROTHERLY LOVE?
Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”
With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”
BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE
Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”

Does it really matter? All this means is now everybody will be discussing what happened in December with Muhney. This show has been on life support with me for a year I kept thinking they would turn it around . I do not know why they think they need this character the only person on that show JFP cares about is Steve Burton.

I’m with you on that– Y&R had such a large fan base that even with losing viewers over a number bad regimes in recent history it still can hold it’s number one spot. But eventually those numbers will not hold if something isn’t done now to stop further erosion. As I said in my post, they can hire top quality actors, big names but if the story telling is weak and the writing is lame it won’t matter. They can cast and recast all they like, the real weakness is the writing. I bet if the stories were engaging viewers they would forgive a lot, but when they are bored– they become restless—no pun intended. I would even put up with SB if they wrote a decent story for the guy. So I wish they would recast the writing team, but as long as JFP is there I doubt that will ever happen.
The show does need Adam, Billy and Phyllis. Their connection to the various other characters on canvas drive stories. Something the newbies don’t do. But you’re right! If there isn’t writing to support them it will still fail. This writiing regime has half the characters OOC, rewriting history on a whim. Who’s to say they know who are Phyllis and Adam? They’ve already butchered Billy as if all those years at RS never happened which has nothing to do with DT’s performance.

The fact is that it’s been six months and the majority of fans want Michael Muhney back. Sure there have been his detractors, but these are the same people that have bashed him for years. Muhney developed Adam Newman into a powerhouse character through his own talent and abilities. Just like Braeden defines Victor, Muhney defines Adam. Sometimes certain actors are able to connect with an audience beyond the normal levels. Muhney did it. Sure, TPTB at Y&R can recast the role, but they’ll never REPLACE Michael Muhney with the fans…and here’s a newsflash for CBS & Sony: Your show is hemorrhaging viewers and key demos. We can read the ratings and it ain’t pretty. The best way to jumpstart this show is to have that camera pan up “THE HANDS” and show us Michael Muhney’s face attached to those hands. Now THAT’S THE TRUTH.

I agree JFP totally screwing up Y&R. David Tom was growing on me and puff hes gone. She didn’t even tell him herself. Cady is a great actress but would be better as Phyllis. Gina would be better as Kelly. Isnt Phyllis older than Kelly???? Its the Steve Burton show now & his character is a bore. If they are determined to recast the role they should at least wait awhile and give the audience time to acclimate to a new Billy and Phyllis (as if some of us ever can) before throwing a new Adam into the mix.

Why would nelson branco post that SOD cover with only the muhney headline then, especially if he is his friend? I think it was a way for him to give us a clue without revealing the surprise. Also, Muhney has again become MIA after a couple weeks of thankful and happy tweets. Sounds like he may be too busy “working” to tweet. Or at the very least, they could be going through negotiations with Muhney and put out the casting call as a bargaining tool more or less. They do it all the time, waste the time of other actors to come in and audition when they already have someone picked for the role, but have not signed the deal yet and are working out the $$. I want to see Muhney again but I have mixed feelings b/c I caught a couple episodes recently after boycotting and the show is SO BAD. The only good characters are Nick Sharon with the Mariah story and that is about it. They would have to revamp the show completely, wipe the slate with new writers, EP, and get the show back to focus on the history of Y&R and the characters people actually cared about. Bring back Nina, bring back Ronan, bring back Philip and for God’s sake, BRING BACK DRUCILLA!!

I agree with what you have said about the show, but, I am also enjoyed Chelsea and Billy scenes together. Too bad they fired him already. Be glad when CBS/Sony realizes who should be fired is JFP. But hey, didn’t they have her resume before they hired her?

I for one would never let her near that studio again the actress is like someone else I know who will remain nameless and no not speaking about MM it is never their fault. With every thing that has gone down over there concerning MM I would fall over if they ever brought him back. I do not think EB,MTS or a lot of others would stand for it.

Honestly are we having this discussion again?? I think this the third time we were asked who should be the new Adam, or at least it feels like we have talked this out so many times. Unless MM is coming back I think the character should remain off screen for a longer time– too many recasts and new faces as is. They left Phyllis in a coma for over year before bringing in a recast– Adam needs to be gone for more time, because even if they bring in Bradley Cooper to play him, I doubt another recast will help.

I’m a long time fan and I’m still there. Loved MM’s acting but as Jeanne Cooper used to say: the SHOW is the star, not the actors themselves.
I feel like the Michael Muhney “news” that Digest released was a publicity ploy set up by CBS. They know that, not only does Muhney have a strong fan-base, but that, because of the TMZ rumors, publicity, bad or good, helps ratings. It’s sad, because I love Michael Muhney and he is so talented and really dominated the role of Adam, but I doubt he’ll actually be back. Good luck to whatever actor fills his shoes though, because it won’t be easily done.
I just feel like Billy, Adam, and Phyllis (even with a beloved soap veteran like Gina Tognoni) all being recast around the same time is a little overwhelming. I don’t watch Y&R anymore (and, no, it’s not just because I’m a Muhney fan; I just did not enjoy any part of the show anymore), but I have to assume that it will be jarring to the viewers who DO watch.
For all I care they can put Justin Beiber in his role, because without Michael Muhney, I won’t be watching.
With the low ratings Y&R is getting lately, you would think they would listen to their fans!!! How many times do they need to send out these articles asking us how we feel!??? If TPTB aren’t smart enough to bring Michael Muhney back, then they deserve the backlash of all-time they’ll get for an Adam Newman recast. It they thought the rejection of David Tom was bad, they ain’t seen nothing yet. The fact is, Michael Muhney created the character of Adam Newman. Yes, Chris Engen established the role as an adult, but Muhney defined the role. Certain actors put their brand on a role and Adam Newman is Michael Muhney. Nothing else will satisfy the audience. Billy Miller established Billy Abbott and David Tom couldn’t continue the role. This is just the reality of the situation. Y&R is failing now. The fans are bored to tears. The ratings are falling and the key demos are walking. CBS has to be concerned. I’m not sure if Sony even cares, but the show clearly is a mess. Bringing Michael Muhney back is a sure fire way to quickly re-establish Y&R’s sinking predicament.
I could do without Adam, but if they must recast I think Trevor St. John would be AMAZING in this role. That said, they should have waited at least a year to recast IMO for several reasons.
TSJ not only works as Adam because of his talent, looks, age, experience, etc., but he also was a successful recast in a role that according to fans “could never be recast”. I was a HUGE fan of Roger Howarth’s Todd, but loved TSJ as all the characters he portrayed on OLTL, including Todd. He would make a great Adam.

Someone at CBS/Sony should get a clue about Y&R problems. There is one person who destroys soaps, her name is J. F. P .
She took down more then a few older soaps that got canceled and put GH on life support before she left. As for Micheal M. I wish they would bring him back with Billy Miller. They were the only two good actors I cared about on the show. If the power that be, don’t take action soon, I don’t want to see another soap go off the air. I also, don’t want to watch Y&R story line as it is now.
They should put adam on hold again and see how the audience is reacting to the recasts of billy and phyllis before bringing back adam they should wait at least in early 2015 to bring him back because in the present year TOO MUCH RECASTS HAVE HAPPENED THAT IS ENGOUH and who knows by the time JFP will be out of the show in the end of summer or beginning of fall and MM could come back.
Trevor St. John could pull it off. But he’s the only one I can think of other than bringing back Muhney.

I have been watching this soap since the very beginning and the quality of this soap is in no way shape or form the kind of quality it should and needs to be to keep it up and running. What show gets rid of three cast members that we all enjoyed watching and loved and is the same year that the main character dies for real? This is messed up and I am not sure how long I am going to keep watching it either. STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!! 😛
Great as long if it is not Muhney and it’s not. He was let go for good reason. Let’s all move on, he was not all that not sure why some think he was it, he was not. There are so much better actors out there.

Agreed. I’m not quite sure I understand this “cult of Muhney”. Y&R has always been a character driven ensemble show. Daytime shows used to not show the actor names or do a montage of actors in opening themes exactly for the reason that these shows are supposed to be about the characters and their stories, not the actors/personalities who portray the characters who act out the stories.
Over the past years a small yet obviously vocal minority has taken over the message boards to voice support for actors like Miller and Muhney. Not quite sure I understand. It is my understanding that Bill Bell did not use focus groups or let short sided fan reactions influence how he ran the show. It may be counter-intuitive, but I believe that is exactly WHY Y&R had been successful for so long. There was one head chef and one vision that, 4 out of 5 times, paid off for the viewer in the end. For a show that is produced for daily weekday consumption, that’s quite impressive.
Y&R sucks now, and Y&R is losing viewers. Maybe people have tuned out because Miller and Muhney are gone, along with Stafford. I don’t agree with that, but I don’t agree with 75% of things that occur in our country nowadays. It is my thought that if the stories are good, and the characters are well cast, the viewers will tune in.
I am one of many that won’t return if Muhney does not return. Team Muhney is huge. If MM doesn’t return Y&R will go down in ratings and will die another death in the soaps. So as one person don’t say the viewers will return. Speak for yourself not the million and a half that hasn’t watch since MM left.

If I stopped watching a show, I couldn’t care less what they do. I thought he was a good actor but it was a job, he got fired, the public is not owed an explanation….that’s show business… Let’s move on.
Oh yes and you were there to witness the whole damn thing. Y& R have lost ratings since we lost MM and if the replacement is not MM I hope Y & R goes down the tube. It would serve them right. You just like the fight!!
It makes no sense to bring but one more NEW person to the show. I work so i tape. I have not even been watching. IF they do not bring back MM then i am done. And I have been a fan who has taped this show for years. I cant stand the new Billy. He just does nothing for me. BRING BACK MM> He is the ONLY man that can play this role. Wake up Y@R. out who is who I am loving it. It is great to see
Michelle Stafford again. I am hoping to see MM

The producers, directors etc. are dragging this show down, unless you belt up fast , make an offer to MM that he can’t refuse , you may as well kiss the show goodbye, you have to realize that it is impossible to fill his shoes, he has already created an unforgettable image out there to his million fans, try to get him back, I say try because he probably is getting better offers now and may not consider returning after all the ugly behavior given him over the past few months. The show lacks and is totally boring with all the simple stories dragging on. Only MM can put the fire back into it.
Nelson is about as reliable and creditable and professional as a rock in the middle of the road. I don’t believe anything he reports or says. And he’s horribly biased and not a “true fan”.
I think Y & R should bring back Michael Muhney. I don’t believe the stories of him making sexual advances against anyone on Y & R. He portrayed the character perfectly. No one will do as good of a job portraying Adam as he has. He is Adam, no one else will do the character justice.

I WISH YR would just admit the “Effed Up” and it’s 100% true! Adam Newman is one of the most riveting daytime characters of ALL TIME! With that said, you can’t just “replace” the actor who MADE the character what he is today…. Michael Muhney – PERIOD. I don’t care what CBS or YR say they made probably THE biggest mistake in daytime casting history! I will NEVER EVER accept anyone else in the role other then Michael Muhney! TPTB can “think” what they want, that we the fans will adapt & get over it but we will NOT. You can put any “A List” daytime star in “his” role and it won’t matter… They will never be THE Michael Muhney, they will never play Adam the way he did & that to me, is unacceptable. ESPECIALLY, especially that there is NO good PROVEN true reason why they did this – NONE!!!!!!! From what I can see, a crewl rumor & lie began that CBS & YR let run wild so they did not have to explain there reasons. What idiots, what a joke. Not only was this a gifted actor, but he is a man with a family making a living. Why haven’t they STILL came out with an explanation??? I have to admit I’m curious about the hands on Y & R. if they are MM I’ll be watching again especially since the truth about the paternity will come out and Nick will dump Sharon who may turn to Adam. I may be in the minority, but I wasn’t sorry to see MM go. I hope they don’t put Sharon with Adam whoever he turns out to be. I’ve always liked her with Nick.
The whole situation makes it impossible for me to root for Michael Muhney’s return. Sure, I loved him as Adam–he fleshed out a character who was darkly nuanced and complex. He is a brilliant actor. However, if he is guilty of these allegations I cannot in all good conscience scream for his return.
I also cannot tar and feather him based on the allegations because I simply do not know what happened. So as far as as either rooting for him or jeering for him, I cannot do either as I am in a state of inertia as long as the truth of what exactly went down comes to light.
James Scott is leaving DOOL.JFP should cast him as the new Adan Newman! He would be a great replacement if Muhney isn’t coming back.
