Original Y&R cast member, Janice Lynde, is now set for a return visit to the top-rated CBS daytime drama, when she reprises her role as world renowned pianist, Leslie Brooks.

Viewers of The Young and the Restless last saw Lynde when she appeared on the series back in 2018 along with her on-screen sister, Lorie Brooks played by Jamie Lyn Bauer for the show’s 45th anniversary.

While not a lot has been divulged as to what brings Leslie back into the storyline, we hear she will be in scenes with other prominent long-running characters.  Look for Lynde to appear in multiple episodes come mid-October.

Janice began on Y&R back in 1973 and stayed on through 1977.  Later she appeared on Another World and One Life to Live throughout her daytime career.

So excited to see Janice back in Genoa City? Comment below.

It would be nice if they also brought back Leslie’s sister’s Chris, Peggy and Lorie.
A Brooks family storyline would be a great tribute to the show!

I don’t know why they never revived the Brooks family storyline after all these years

As a viewer from the very first episode, it’s always a thrill for me to see original cast members. What memories the Brooks family bring back for me. I’m looking forward to this.

Same here as a longtime viewer! Glad there are still a few of us around.
As for Leslie’s return: I think it’s a connection to Ashland Locke. The show has hinted about Ashland being involved with an older woman and someone in the newspaper industry. Stuart Brookes ran the local paper, and Jennifer Brookes probably had a fling or two in her life– maybe even with a younger man (Ashland.) Whatever the case: I loved the Brookes’ family stories and hope Leslie Brookes will sit down at the piano in some episodes.

Ron,
Iam so excited. The possibilities of Ashland’s relationship’s or involvement with the Brook’s family is endless so at this point I won’t even guess. I just keep thinking ” rich woman, newspaper owner” This could be such an interesting SL if they don’t waste it and only have Ms.Lynde come back for a little piano recital.Prey tell, who was Jennifer, I can not remember who she was.

Violet– Jennifer Brookes was the wife of newspaper tycoon, Stuart Brookes. Her biggest story was the groundbreaking breast cancer plot that was shocking and powerful. You can find old segments of those hospital scenes on you tube.

Ron…speaking of Ashland Locke, don’t get me wrong…I think that Ashland is a pretty cool character. But…there’s something about his clothing that annoys me. To me, Ashland looks like he is dressed like something from a 1970s gangster movie…BEYOND BLECH!!!!! Wardrobe-wise, I think that Ashland can do A LOT BETTER than that!!!!! Just saying.

Have a good one, Ron.

I quit watching Y&R for it’s not the same but I am a major fan of the Brooks family and miss those glorious days of Y&R…I watched from the middle 70’s till 2007 then return when Sally Sussman and Kay Alden returned…I quit watching again after Josh Griffith returned as head writer.

Soaphound–:)
WHOA! that was 48 years ago– nearly half a century……
you watched it every day since 1973???
Amazing, indeed…..
As for me….
I see this one returning that one returning…..
I have not a clue as to what or who they were/are……
To me, they are all newbies– ahaa ha!!
It’s good to see you are, like others, excited for her return……
to me it’s an eehh huh- who?? lol

Well, Su000, I admit that a couple of stories and frustrations have led to brief rebellions on my part but on the whole, I’ve been pretty loyal. It takes a lot for me to abandon a show I love. Though I do think I’ll be ditching CHICAGO PD this year; it’s really become repetitive and I miss Sophia Bush’s character. She was the heart of the show. BTW, I got hooked on Y&R because my high school had split scheduling — freshmen started classes at around noon, so I watched the show right before heading to school. I had a major crush on James Houghton, who played Greg Foster. Blue eyes, great smile, tons of dark hair…oh memories!

It’s good you found half a century of ”every day” enjoyment..
Do you wonder how your life would have been without your soaps??
your daytime routine would have been quite different.
Anyways– glad you and the others get excited to have the long-gone return to your screen ! 🙂

SuOOO,
I am sorry to butt in here, but I think I told you I’ve been watching the Soaps since the late 1950s, and I’d like to add my answer to your question about how different our daily routine would have been. Well, mine would have been quite different as I might have gotten some housework done and wouldn’t have had my husband asking me what the hell I did all day. Ha,ha, not so funny then.I was having my first baby, so I had some lame excuses for that first year anyway.

Violet- you and Soaphound are amazing watching soaps for a good part of your lives= awesome!!
If- one day you woke to the news; –all soaps have been canceled–
what would you do, how would you deal with it ?
Frightening!

Violet, I was fortunate in that by the time I was working during the day, VCRs had just become available at affordable prices (1980-ish?) So, I never had to miss long stretches of my shows. If they went off the air permanently, it would be a sad day especially since prime time is so vapid and youth oriented. I’d rather watch my DVDs of THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, THE GOLDEN GIRLS, GILMORE GIRLS, or classic movies than watch another unfunny, smutty sitcom, demonic possession show, or anti-heroes who are lacking in conscience, vocabulary, or a shaving razor! Call me jaded.

Soaphound, if you’re jaded, then I’m jaded, too! I am Spartacus!

I love your commentary here. I agree with your summation of the current state of affairs in the TV landscape as “smutty sitcom, demonic possession show, or anti-heroes who are lacking in conscience….” And what a godsend the VCR was, as well as what came afterward: DVR, On Demand, etc. Fastforwarding through commercials and through the parts of our shows we don’t enjoy: a time-saving, stress- and nausea-avoidance marvel!

Jamesj75, I’m glad someone concurs. Sometimes I think it’s just an aging thing but then I take an honest look back to movies and TV from yesteryear. Yeah, a lot of it was junk (I never got “Laverne and Shirley”) but it wasn’t as degrading and cynical. There are always bright spots but, as I’ve been saying for years, the average episode of “Law and Order SVU” (or previously “The Good Wife” or “Gilmore Girls”) is miles better than 98 percent of theatrical movies. Who EVER saw THAT coming? Not me. Maybe that’s why I still miss “Knots Landing”, “Dynasty”, the CBS Saturday night lineup in the early 70s, etc. Thank heaven for DVDs is right. Cheers, James!

Soaphound,
I also watched from the very beginning but stopped for a while, went to work part-time while kids were in school, no recording then. When I started back again Nicki was married to Greg but was being played by Wings Hauser. Who would have thought his big brother would turn out to be Knight Rider and the hunk on Bay Watch? Gosh, where do the years go. Iam also thinking of quitting Chicago P. D I liked Sophia Bush too. Did you ever watch ??? Tree Place, she was supposed to be high school age then.

Su000 and VIOLET: I’ve always looked forward to my soaps, especially when I was working full time. It was the PERFECT unwinding after work. Thank heaven for VCRs! Violet, I didn’t watch ONE TREE HILL but I wish Sophia would return to prime time in her own show. CHICAGO PD has become so repetitive… a new or resurfaced drug dealer commits a crime, the team goes after them, Hank bends the rules and/or tortures a perp, gets heat from “the brass”, and then comes the final shootout. I do still like CHICAGO MED but I will miss April. We need more eye candy on the show and Steven Weber is as intolerable as his annoying character!

I have watched since March 1973 also. IT AMAZES me how some think these new actors don’t fit in with time lines or that all these soaps, their looks and ages don’t correlate with them now. JESSE (Gard)Gaines the lawyer on Monday will drag out the real dark secret. BUT Ashland will ask Nate to fake his death, as Nate did for Victor so Jesse won’t blackmail him any longer. ASHLAND FAKING DYING and will tell Jesse he dying and say 3 million is all he has left take it or leave it. But the dark secret is yet to come forth

Wow! I am always a bit behind and miss many episodes, but had no idea Nate faked Victor’s death. My thoughts can’t go back to the 1950’s. So my thoughts rest more in the newer sense of things. Keep wondering how Ashland found his wife Tara and how she still might fit into the conclusion. Ashland, as a kid, could have been drawn into an awfully lot of things to stay alive.

Wish I had a list of who the historical characters were married to, and who their children are. I often have to stop and think who is a Newman and who is a Abbott; then again this is a Soap. How fun to read these comments!

March 1973 Y&R started.
Ashland met Tara in an antiqueshop. YES, Nate helped faked Victor ‘s death after Adam put Drugs in Victor’s drink if I remember correctly.
ASHAND’s mother is possibly Leslie Brooks maybe! Now, he suppise to be maybe Bobby DiFranco A deceased man killed in a crash that possibly SUTTON, Amanda’s grandfather wasn’t a hit on and possible Bobby did wrong to Sutton.

LIST OF CHARACTERS from back in 70 up to now…google wilki History of the Brooks and Forresters Young and Restless
HOPE THIS HELPS ALL. Kyle n Summer will marry in Tuscany in place of Ashland and Victoria Summer is pregnant and will tell whole family.
Ashand will ask Nate to fake his death possibly. HOW THE PEN that Theo got from Dina will come also.

SO, WHO REALLY Ashland is really in the end will remain to be seen.

MY GOODNESS! Do you glean all of this just from watching?

I’m all for this because my teen years was the ’70s YR with the Brooks, Fosters, Chancellors, Prentiss, was the best time.

Don’t blink, remember the last time the Brooks’ sisters visited? I am guessing she will sit at the piano, play here comes the bride for Victoria and fade away. Y and R fails whenever they promise a return. Just ask Gloria!

Every ‘return!’, ‘revelation!’ ‘ suprise!’ hyped up by this show has been sad and pathetic during the course of Josh Griffith and Morinas tenure
The show lacks polish, plot and passion.
Every time i see Y n R in the headline i get excited it will follow with : Josh Griffith out!
But alas 2 years of covid and 3 years of this show being in the worst state of slumber i ve ever witnessed in 30 + years of watching
Someone at cbs pls wake up and send Griffith back to writing class 101

Hi Damien, I am right there with you…Personally I don’t think it’s the Executive Producers fault as it is with the Head Writer, UGH…Like you said Damien, CBS PLEASE WAKE UP…and Sony, whoever has the say in this once classic soap opera that William and Lee Phillip Bell created.

Brooks Sisters visited last 2018

This is exciting. Bring back Snapper for a visit please.

It has to do with Ashland. Somehow, history rewrite, he’s connected to Stuart Brooks and his family. They’d better not try saying it had to do with Brad the mysterious stranger Stuart took under his wing. Whatever.

Leslie is the mother yo Ashland AKA Brooks Prentiss

Leslie Brooks is the mother t BROOK Prentiss AKA: Ashland Locke

Guys, he just said last week that his mother died, but who knows, right?

He said his mother was dead and I can’t believe she was the timid little soul as Ash described his mother.

I hope not because the Prentiss/Brookes characters were nothing like the story Ashland is telling: but, of course, he’s probably lying about it.
Maybe Ashland’s parents were Nikki Reeds parents.

NOW, THE saying, but who knows, Ashland is Bobby DiFranco and linking that name to Sutton, Amanda ‘s Grandfather; saying he ordered a hit on him. BUT DO WE REALLY KNOW?? Where does the “Pen” that Dina left to Theo fit in ????

So thrilled to see someone I ran home from High School to watch every day! So graced by your reappearance! Bless you and the history of you character. Love the storyline incorporation.
Bless the writers, CBS, for having a CLUE whom your viewers are!

What was the Tchaikovsky piece that Janice played the evening before Victoria’s and Ash’s wedding?

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

It’s a milestone we couldn’t let pass by without taking some time to celebrate as a family (and, of course… eating some cake). 🍰 We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE 16,000th Episode?

The 16,000th episode will feature Jason Morgan returning to the town of Port Charles, Anna and Valentin (James Patrick Stewart) reuniting, and a new surgeon, Dr. Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer) joining the staff of ‘General Hospital.’

Stay tuned for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy nominations tomorrow on Tuesday, July 14 to find out if GH will be going for gold in the category, once again.
