Hmmm, she declines to return but wants to be a part of the tribute? I don’t know how I feel about that….not that anyone cares how I feel about it. LOL Think she’s a phenomenal actress, but I would prefer to focus on the current cast. Want to make sure that they get featured the way they deserve…rather than focusing too much energy on someone from 35 years ago who didn’t even want to return to reprise her role, but wants to bask in the tribute….Just my opinion… I’m sure I’ll get hell for this, but I don’t care…LMAO

I hate to admit it ,but when I heard she was going to be on the view (I am only watching because of one life to live) I said the same thing ,I want to spent the hour with the cast thats on now,Judith light Is a good actress but she has been gone for a very long time I care about vicki clint bo nora blair todd john, I dont even like the idea of having to watch the view and say goodbye to soap that should have never been canceled.

Glad to see I’m not the only one that feels this way. I mean, I get it, her performance during the courtroom scenes were amazing….and remain a part of Daytime History, but let’s not forget about Tea’s performance when she found Victor’s body…or Blair’s performance when trying to get through to Jack…or Trevor St. John’s performance during his executions scenes…or Jessica’s scenes when dealing with the truth of the DNA switch…or any scene dealing with Marty Saybrooke…Rex’s scenes when facing the death of Gigi….and sense I mentioned Gigi, let’s not forget her work or Shane’s on the school rooftop….These are the people that I’m invested in. Not someone who’s trying to swoop in and get praise for work she did over 30 years ago. Hell, I wouldn’t be mad, if Lindsey, Troy, Mitch or (Erin Torpey aka first Jessica) showed up…because these actors thought enough of OLTL to come back and honor the show by being a part of the final episodes. Now, I realize that Ms. Light’s schedule may not have permitted her to appear in the final episodes…but I think it’s in poor taste to show up for the tribute on The View….but turn down the chance to appear on OLTL. If you can’t do one, then don’t do either.

I care! I agree wholeheartedly and were my sentiments exactly when I read this. She declined going onto the show that marked the beginning of her career, but agreed to go on a talk show? Something’s fishy in the state of Denmark. I don’t know what her schedule was like at the time so there’s always a chance for conflict, but Sarah Michelle Gellar took time away from her show to pay tribute to AMC, as did Josh Duhamel when he reprised his role. I just don’t like this possible idea that JL thought it “enough” to pay tribute to OLTL by going on The View and say she did her due diligence to the show that gave her her start and her two Emmys.

Agree with both of your posts. When I first read the article I thought “huh?” She’ll just take attention away from the people who really deserve to be there. I loved her too but . . . . The current cast has been outstanding these past few years & deserve all the attention. I just wish the tribute was not on the View. I hate that show. They are snobs & do not really care about soaps. I think it would have been great if Live with Kelly & whoever had done the tribute.

I meant agree with Torrey’s posts.

Torrey, I agree with both of your posts. Light hasn’t been on OLTL since 1983.

Yeah, someone tell me again, why Judith Light was featured on OLTL’s tribute? Did not like what she had to say, and she took away from the people that were currently on the show. Her segment could have been more time dedicated to Kassie De Paiva or Andrea Evans….or how about this, we could have heard from Ron Carlivati or Agnes Nixon more….. Judith Light just wanted some applause and attention….oh and to promote her play. Give me a break!

Im still scratching my head over that one to ,and I want to know how long the show was ,the commercials were so long.and I also would like to have heard more from agnes nixon and would loved to have heard from ron carlivati,Im getting myself prepared for the ending of one life to live .

Yeah, there were a ton of commercials….and most of them were ABC shoving that stupid Revolution down our throats. I’m so sick of that commercial…. Everyone out there, please make sure not to turn your TV to ABC on Monday….Don’t even tune in to check and see how bad it is! Just let the show tank. I know some might be curious, but just watch something else.

I’m thrilled. Judith is my all-time favorite soap actress and Karen Wolek was a phenomenal character.

I love your response Terry, I don’t think ppl who snubbed her for not going back to OLTL for last show understand enough about JL. This lady has a beautiful soul, so maybe she could not make it or had a conflict. Her spirit is very humble
This woman has a heart full of sacrificing

I’m excited with her being on the view but the one thing that is making me unhappy is the view itself.I’m still waiting for a call for my tix how is it 2 times I get over looked.I was the first along with a few friends on the amc n oltl list.I called for 2 wks and the phone is busy that’s unexceptable who runs this event?something needs to be done I’m a. Fan for yrs froze sweat n spent thousands on events and I can’t even get the chance to be on the view.I think they pick none soap watchers.anyone agree hey view members n staff why is this.

I was one who didn’t want her to come back, mainly because I didn’t see the point. Only one cast member was still on the show that her character really had any interactions with. If there were more people still on the show who knew Karen Wolek I could see it. Cord and Tina were brought back and it fit in very well. She’s always been proud of her soap roots so I’ll give her an out for not wanting to come back..We don’t know why she said no. It could have been other commitments or that they just didn’t have a good story for her.

She wouldn’t have fit well in OLTL nowadays because the Woleks have been out of the show for many years. But Light’s presence on The View is appropriate because we’re dealing with actors, not characters. I remember when The View saluted AMC on September 23rd 2011, they had invited an old AMC onscreen couple from the early 1980s.

Yes, I totally agree

I agree with Tom. I remember Judith Light’s performance on OLTL 30 some odd years ago and loved her as Karen Wolek, but she’s been gone so long and there’s no one on there (besides Vicki) that she worked with, so why bother? I don’t think Judith wanted to just come on and do some stunt casting. Where would she fit in? Having all the crazies break out of prison makes more sense. Seeing Judith Light on The View is more than enough.

Actually she also worked with Bob Woods (Bo). But I agree that it wouldn’t have been appropriate to bring back Karen Wolek at this point. But Judith Light (like any other OLTL actor) is definately welcome on The View’s tribute, IMO.

This is great but there are others missing that should be on the View as well. Andrea Evans, Trevor St John and Roger Howarth!

what about Michael Easton?

Yes Michael Easton should be there too. I just read that James Depaiva will be there now too.

I totally agree, I would love to see Michael Easton on The View’s tribute to OLTL as well. Possibly he can’t be there, because he is in California filming GH – wishful thinking, but maybe!!! I love those that will be on, and am looking so forward to it, but I too, do not see the need for Judith Light to be part of this show. I adore her, and think she is a wonderful actress, but like many of you have already stated, let’s stick to the characters that are still in the storyline, not gone for over 20 years. I don’t see any of the younger stars listed to appear, but maybe they will pop up, specifically Kristen Alderson (Star), since she has been on the show since she was a young girl. I STILL cannot believe our beloved show is about to come to come to an end, but I look forward to seeing how it plays out.

Anyway this was my view before I read the above link. Judith appearing on the show in it’s final days would of been a TRIBUTE to say the least. However, as someone wrote, ABOVE, “There is no one on the show that is LEFT other than Vicky.” Bo didn’t show up until some year’s later. My believe is, maybe Judith thought that since she has been OFF the show for 30 year’s, there would be no one to merge her character with other than Vickey. I’m objective until…..
Then……I went to Google to see has it been 30 year’s she has been off and ran across an article to the link I posted (above and below). Folks, Judith has DECLINED 2 offer’s to return to OLTL for its finale. She was extended the 1st invitation in June obviously, after the initial announcement. Before June, she DECLINED to return to the 40th anniversary, and now she has DECLINED the 2nd invitation to the finale obviously in the fall before taping raped. So that changes my view somewhat BC, now…….. we CANT blame it on her busy schedule, which I was more than willing to accept as such. The article states “Light apparently has declined ALL offers. She also reportedly turned down a chance to return for the show’s 40th anniversary a few years ago. In both cases, the return was apparently supposed to be just a SMALL CAMEO. ”
This changes how I feel about the situation somewhat. I can not be so objective now, with regards to her schedule. “We make time and do what is IMPT to us”. Furthermore, I dont see her on any roles in television and film or cable. She’s not that damn busy for a simple cameo. And now I understand why some of you feel the way you feel about her View appearance. We want to see Judith in character, NOT on the View singing the praises of the show, in which she will be getting some of that praise as well. In character on the show as Karen, it makes it about the show and OLTL and paying tribute to her roots, not about her!

I knew this ,and thats another reason I dont think she should be on the view with the real cast.I believe she should have gone to landview ,even for a split second to say goodbye to the soap opera that made her famous.I think she was on oltl for 6 years and there are people who have been on the show far longer ,that have been on till the end ,they should be on before her and there is no way they can squeeze one life to live in one hour ,to say goodbye ,have you ever watched that show?there all crazy ,everyone of them , I quickly change the channel ,To me this is an insult to one life to live ,oltl should not get canceled and a show like the view, chew and whatever else stays on.I will sent abc a bar of soap ,there going to need all the soap they can get to clean up there afternoon disaster of there lineup of shows ,crap.

Wow Barbara, you are funny. : ) LMAS laughing my ass off, BC you are dead serious BUT it sounds like humor (kinda like myself when Im angry). People say Im funny, when m being DEAD serious.
Yeah, go to the dollar store where you can get 4or 5 bar’s for a dollar and sent more than 1 bar, that ‘s what I did. I sent 2 packages of soap, cost, $2 at the Dollar Store.
That way ABC will have ALL the Soap they NEED (as you said, LMAS) to clean up their mess. Wow, you said they are crazy on the View or is that the Chew you were speaking of?

both the chew and the view ,there all crazy and abc is insane to think the soap fans are going to tune into this garbage the revolution ,from what I have seen so far its another stupid show for stupid people who need other people to tell them how to live ,abc said the ratings are up for the chew and that frons guy said women are working so there not watching the soaps anymore,oh ,ok,are they now staying home to watch the chew ? I dont think so. I know Im not going to watch there crap shows they are trying to shove done my throat,Ill watch gh,thats it when they get rid of that soap abc will never be aloud to be turned on in my house ,ever,I dont care whats on.the disrespect abc has for there soap fans and cast and everyone whos involved in the two soaps they canceled is wrong ,and abc to me means greed the all mighty dollar ,Id rather watch class then the trash thats going to replace the soaps.

I really think Judith Light turned down OLTL for the same reason she left the show at the height of her popularity; she was done with the character and wanted to do other things. I thought it was great when Josh Duhamel and Sarah Michelle Gellar came on AMC, but there were people for them to interact with. Why would the actress who played “Donna Beck” come back? There was practically nobody for her to interact with. I’m sure that played into Light’s decision also. Coming on The View to thank the fans for her career (and Agnes Nixon) is enough.

I’d love to see Judith Light on The View talking about her soap roots. That’s the OLTL I remember.

I remember that OLTL, too, Sue. Why all the vitriol here? I think it is wonderful for Ms. Light to appear on THE VIEW as part of the celebration. The show has been on for 43 years, not 15 or 20. She represents a chapter long gone. So many are passed… the actors of that time who played Anna Craig, Marco Dane, David Renaldi, Pat Ashley, Tony Lord… what about Larry Wolek? Vinnie and Wanda? I am not sure a cameo by Ms. Light as Karen would further any story or plot line. AMC did some cameos and they fell flat to me. People, Ms. Light surely knows she had a wonderful opportunity on OLTL in the 1970s-80s and that she celebrates it is lovely. Tell me, does anyone know if Nathan Fillion or Ryan Phillipe or Tommy Lee Jones (Dr. Mark Toland in the 1970s) are going to be on THE VIEW? Fillion embraces his OLTL experience, too, and he is an ABC star now. Gotta love CASTLE!

Its an hour show ,with commercials thats 10 minutes of time lost ,then you have all those crazy women talking over each other, and one live to live has been on 43 years ,I have watched every one of them,ms.light was asked twice to come back to the show that made her ,she said no ,she also said no when one life to live had there 40th anniversary I can understand why most soap fans want to see the cast that ended with the show.I remember the scenes with judith light and they were powerful ,But I love what I have seen over the past 2 decades ,Dont think we are being cruel ,Its just there is very little time left of a soap that should not get canceled.

All a mute point now… Let”s just enjoy what we have left… I will still enjoy seeing Judith Light with Erika Slezak on The View none the less.

I missed 43 (!) half days of junior high school to watch that pre-vcr trial, so to me she’s even more important than the current cast. Everyone should be there…Brad, Jenny, Joe…whoever….it’s too bad she didn’t want to reenact the part….but I’ll take a minute of Karen Wolek for sure. OMG. That was 33 years ago and I still remember it to this day.

Crazy.

Hi Rob: This is the Jersey City blogger. Wow, you’ve been a fan for a long while. It’s nice to see there are men that have hung in there with soaps over the year’s and are PROUD of it. Hey, at anytime (once the show goes off) it you want to meet and sulk over the show over a cup of coffee, let me know Lol. U missed 43 days of school, and I use to run home after school. Thank God my High Sch was nearby my home. Lol

This is what I wrote (above on the site) about the whole Judith Light situation.

Judith Light hasn’t been on for years & she did refuse to be on the final episodes. What about, Kristen Alderson, Michael Easton, Bree Williamson, Melissa Archer, Tuc Watkins, Ilene Kristen, Farah Fath & John Paul Lavoisier to name a few that have been on for years????

They should just show up in the audience, don’t see why they can’t. Obviously with the old clips they will show, and the discussion, EVERYONE can’t talk that shows’s up. But I don”t see why won’t be in the audience, AND in the FRONT row. No reason not to me.

there is no way they can squeeze 43 years of agnes nixons beauitful stories on one life to live ,in 1 hour ,with those 5 blabber mouth hosts of the view,it cant be done ,also I heard that when abc canceled the soaps the view was given a gag order to shut the hell up about the soaps,Erika slezak said the same thing, susan lucci ,abc back stabbing sobs,I agree with erika ,ITS BULLSHIT,and it is.and I have to keep saying this, abc is getting rid of class for trash,I also heard this morning on one of abcs primetime shows ,those nasty dirty filthy kardashians, will be on some show.abc keeps going lower and lower.dont those pigs make enough money?Couldnt abc use it to keep all my children and one life to live?Who ever is in control at abc needs a reality check,we dont want the crap you replacing the soaps with.

I almost forgot heres a news flash for abc the family channel, martha stewarts show was canceled, people arent watching it low in ratings ,hey abc do you think everyone is tuning in to watch the chew?Anyone with half of a brain does not need other people to tell them how to life ,Ive managed and I m still alive,I want stories .not a bunch of morons shouting at each other telling me how to change my spaghetti recipe or how to make a meatloaf .anyway big mistake abc.

I am looking forward to seeing Judith Light. She is the best of the best! Outside of playing a judge on SVU, we haven’t seen her that much. I know she was on Broadway, but it still will be nice to see her.Looking forward to the View…..

I can remember when Judith Light was on OLTL…..many, many moons ago. She played the heck out of her character……but, just like all the others who have left….I don’t really see the significance is returning for the farewell…..take the show out by closing out all those story lines that have been hanging for months

I am really going to miss ALL the ABC soaps…The only thing I don’t like is the person who is playing the role of Cole …..

From what I read, the actor who played Cole was unavailable to film due to other obligations, so they had to recast.

As a viewer who saw Judith Light’s entire run as Karen I am happy that she will be part of The View’s tribute. I don’t think her making a return to the show would have been in the best interests of OLTL. Except for Viki there is no other character Karen was involved with during her Llanview days. Other than have her make a small cameo as a toss-in there wasn’t a very good way to bring Karen back in a meaningful storyline. The Cord/Tina returns worked so well…and for the most part so are the characters involved in the prison break plot-line. A possible way would have been to make Karen the mother of Cutter & Kim…but, at the time that was written PP was assuming to be taking over and it made perfect sense to have it be Alex as Tonja Walker would be available for future appearances where JL would not.

We Love You Judith–Yay! 😀

I can understand why she would be included. While it is easy to focus on the current cast members, this soap lasted for over 4 decades. Judith’s character, and famous scenes, are a part of soap opera history. I started watching OLTL around that time, and her performances were riveting.

I sort of wish people would talk about those days, as well as the cast members of 2012. The cast members of the 1970’s, and 1980’s, were a part of the history of this soap, and what makes it so darn special.

ABC stinks for getting rid of the best soap ever. ABC is going down… Why can’t CBS or NBC or FOX pick up OLTL and AMC? That would really stick it to ABC…

When Guiding Light was going off the air, Jeanne Cooper and Michael LeBlanc went onto the show to pay “tribute.” They’d never been on the show and were given the most annoying characters. At the time I thought it was being done to stroke the actors’ egos and why did I have to spend so much time wasted on these two when the characters I did want to see were about to go off the air.

Maybe Ms. Light realizes that there are a lot of characters on the canvas that we do want to see and she doesn’t want to get in the way of them. Maybe she’ll even be asked about it on The View and will have a chance to explain. I personally think too many people are taking this as a slight against OLTL and it’s not.

Judith Light acted as Karen was one of my favorite actress. She was and still is a great actress. Have always enjoyed seeing her on many shows.

Judith Light was amazing as Karen, and it will be very interesting to see what she has to say on the View. I agree it would have been nice if she made a cameo appearance. She has the connection with Viki, and it could have worked. At least she is honoring the memory of her character. As someone else posted, Tommy Lee Jones, Nathan Filion, Ryan Phillippe, and Laurence Fishburne are not acknowledging their roles, so we should be happy Judith will be there to represent the early days. Would love to see Michael Storm back, then there would be a strong connection. Friday will be a day of mixed emotions.

Judith Light probably thought that going back to oltl would take away from her other successes in prime time. Some actors feel that going back to soaps is a regression if they went on to do bigger and better things. She could’ve felt that doing it would hurt her chances of getting more work in television or film. She gets recognition and good press if she does “The View” and can give thanks that way for the start of her career. She also met her husband there.

Next to Erika Slezak (Victoria), Judith Light (Karen) was my favorite actress from the show. My favorite actress on All My Children was Dorothy Lyman who was the original Opal Gardner. My favorite actor of all time on OLTL is Josh Kelly (Cutter). His comedic timing is excellent and he is probably one of the best looking men on OLTL ever. Linda Gottleib was the best producer for OLTL. She ran the show like a novel and focused on the chemistry between characters. I liked Judith Chapman as Sandra Montaigne and Kathy Glass who played the original Jenny (Karen’s sister). I especially liked Karen Witter who played Tina for about 4 years. I like both actors that played Brad Vernon. One of my favorite storylines is when Mitch Laurence first came on the show. Didn’t like the characters of Ivan Kipling and Carlo Hesser. I’m surprised they never brought back CJ Roberts (Tina and Cords’ son).

Not a big Rafe Garrettson or Delilah Ralston fan either.

i did see her and my mom said that before Judith Light was on Who’s the Boss she cried on her soap so when she acted like her Charchter my mom said it was easy for her because she was on One Life to Live and i thought wow i didn’t know that.A lot of celebrities are on soaps that was how they started and it makes me nuts to see them go cause it was their first go to soaps that helped them in other productions

I don’t care for Judith Light, because she decline an appearance/cameo to say a proper goodbye to the show. She wants to be on the View for other reasons…

I had a gut feeling the minute they said surprise guest it would be judith light. Thats pretty cool.

I am so excited about Judith Light being on the View. She was always on of my favorite characters on One Life To Live. I have been watching since it began. I am going to miss watching everyday when I get home from work. I have love every moment of the show. Everyone of the Actors on the show are great and I am hoping to see them on other shows. Of course it goes without saying the Erika Slezak is just the most awesome actor. Looking forward to The Manning and John McBain on GH. Let’s bring some more to GH.

Christel Khalil Reveals She Almost Quit Acting After ‘That’s So Raven’ Audition, But Then Came ‘The Young and the Restless’

The Young and the Restless fan favorite, Christel Khalil (Lily Winters) is the special guest on this week’s edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped today on Tuesday, June 23rd.

During the interview with Rebecca and Greg, Khalil who had played Lily Winters on-screen since August of 2002, nearly 24 years with the CBS soap, shared how early on her teenage acting career, she was ready to call it quits in show business, after a heartbreaking audition for the lead of a new Disney Channel sitcom, which later turned out to be the hit seres, That’s So Raven, starring Raven-Symoné which ran for four seasons from 2003-2007.

Christel recalled what happened. “I was 14 and I had always auditioned for all these Disney projects. So I auditioned for That’s So Raven, it was between me and Raven-Symoné and it was called at the time Absolutely Psychic,” explained Khalil. “The character was this girl who had psychic ability, but then when Raven got the role, they named the title of the show after her.”

HOW A BROTHERLY TALK CHANGED THE COURSE OF CHRISTEL’S CAREER

Reliving the disappointment to Greg and Rebecca, Christel explained, “I lost that part and I was just so devastated, because for the network call there were 20 people in the room watching me, and I just have always had such performance anxiety. I just completely bombed the audition and it was terrible. So, I was just devastated. I was actually going to quit acting and then I got the final call for The Young and The Restless and I wasn’t going to go.”

It was Khalil’s brother, who actually got her to reconsider, and if he hadn’t, we would not have our Lily Winters in Genoa City! Christel recounted, “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m done. I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m just going to hang out with my friends.’ I was just devastated. My brother, who is seven years older than me, and he had quit acting at the same age that I was at that time. He said to me, ‘I promise you, I actually really regret quitting. Just go on this audition and if you don’t get it, you can quit.'”

Christel’s screen-test for the role of Lily was actually with the late, great, Kristoff St. John who would play her father Neil (Later it was revealed to Lily, that Neil’s brother, Malcolm Winters was her bio-dad).

ACTING WAS EASY WITH THE LATE KRISTOFF ST. JOHN

“So, I went (to test for Lily) and I remember the screen-test was with Kristoff St. John. It was just so easy to act with him because he’s just so there. I remember just being on set, and that was my first time there for a screen-test where you were actually on set. I had never experienced that before. It was my first time being with an actor and  having makeup done, which just helps you really be able to do your best work.”

Recalling the screen-test with the St. John, Khalil, “It was where I had to be emotional ( in the scene) and I always had issues being emotional at auditions. But I was there with him, it just came, and it happened. It was natural and I felt so good and it was amazing. It stands out in my mind a lot.”

Deidre Hall Marks 50 Years as ‘Days of Our Lives’ Dr. Marlena Evans

If you have ever tuned-in to the soap opera genre over the last 50 years, and witnessed some of the greatest romances, drama, classic and outlandish storylines of all-time, you would have seen Deidre Hall smack dab in the middle of it as longtime Salem heroine, Dr. Marlena Evans.

It was 50 years on this date, June 21, 1976 that Hall first appeared on DAYS on NBC which was its home for 57 years before it moved to its current streaming platform on Peacock in September of 2022.

In Hall’s first episode she was introduced as a psychiatrist treating Mickey Horton (John Clarke) at Bayview Sanitarium after he suffered a complete mental breakdown. Mickey learned that his brother Bill Horton (Edward Mallory) was the biological son of Mike Horton (Wesley Eure) with his wife Laura (Susan Flannery) and that he had been lied to for years and years. From that moment on, the rest is television and soap opera history. Days of Our Lives put Hall front and center.

There were so many heartbreaking and shocking story twists involving the beloved Marlena. One of the first was the historic crib death of baby DJ (Don Jr.) in 1980, Marlena’s infant son with Don Craig (Jed Allan). The story had never been told on daytime television and Hall’s performances received accolades from TV critics to fans when Deidre received thousands of letters from grieving mothers who had gone through the same thing in their own lives.

DAYS also brought Deidre’s twin sister, Andrea Hall Lovell to the show as her on-screen sister Samantha, who had a grudge and even locked Marlena up in a sanitarium and took her place! Fast-forward and in 1982, DAYS launched the Salem Strangler story where everyone believed Marlena was his next victim, only it turned out to be Samatha. Jake Kositchek (played by Jack Coleman) was revealed to be the actual serial killer.

Later, Deidre would assume the role of Marlena’s look-alike, Hattie Adams in 2004, once played by her sister, Andrea. Over the years, Hattie has come back to Salem and caused trouble giving Hall a chance to play a different type of character, then the always upstanding Marlena.

THE LOVES OF MARLENA

Deidre Hall struck gold with all her leading men: from the late Jed Allan, to Wayne Northrop as Roman Brady, and of course, her enduring love story with the late John Black played by the iconic Drake Hogestyn. In fact, Marlena’s 1986 wedding to John (who was believed to be Roman at the time) remains a favorite of fans to this day.

TOP MARLENA STORYLINES OF ALL-TIME

While the list is long, here are several that were some of the memorable during Deidre’s five decades in Salem!

The Possession (1994- 1995)
Considered one of the most ambiguous, outlandish and unforgettable story arcs in soap opera history, then Days of Our Lives head writer, James Reilly went there! Marlena was possessed by the devil! That included; the demonic eyes, hissing at father John (Black) the priest, morphing into creatures, and the classic levitating in her bed! It became a cultural phenomenon and cemented Deidre Hall’s status as a daytime television legend. Just ask Ryan Gosling!

The Affair with John Black (1993)
John and Marlena’s forbidden love could not be denied and they had passionate affair, while she was still married to the real Roman. Problem was her daughter, Sami (Alison Sweeney) caught her mother having sex with John on a desk that changed Sami forever.

The Salem Stalker Mystery (2003-2004)
In a shocker, Marlena was revealed to be a serial killer who bumped off several Salem favorites residents who were all alive on the island of Melaswen (spelled “New Salem” backward). Turns out, she was manipulated and gaslighted by Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) to do the “killings” and had no memory of her actions.

The Pier Scene (1991)
This remains Michael Fairman TV’s all-time favorite Deidre Hall moment, which featured some of the best acting in the storied careers of both Hall and Drake Hogestyn.

In the story, a presumed-dead Marlena returns after four years. One foggy night on the pier, John is alone, and Marlena steps out of the fog to reveal herself, and is reunited with the love of her life. You can watch it any year, any decade, and in any moment, and it will have you reaching for the hankies again and again. (best music score fo a soap scene of all-time too!)

Kristen’s Secret Room Reveal (1997)
Marlena was caught in Kristen Blake’s (Eileen Davidson) elaborate web of lies, when she was held hostage in a secret wine cellar/room until John managed to track her down, leading to an iconic on-screen reunion. The classic catfight between Hall and Eileen Davidson was one for the ages.

It should be noted that Maison Blanche, Queen of the Night, Possession, Aremid and Lady in a Cage were all a part of classic DAYS storyline and all featured Hall at the epicenter of it from 1993-1996.

THE RECENT YEARS OF MARLENA

In recent years, DAYS brought back the possession 2.0 storyline under then head writer Ron Carlivati in 2021 where the devil leapt back in Marlena after taking advantage of a frail Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes)

In 2025, viewers watched the end of the love story of John and Marlena, as John succumbed to injuries sustained in an explosion saving a vial of medication needed to bring Bo (Peter Reckell) back to life. Marlena has been a widow on-screen since June of 2025 as Hall as portrayed the good doctor struggling with her grief and to move on with her life since his death.

One story that never goes away is Stefano DiMera’s (the late Joe Mascolo) obsession with Marlena, his “Queen of the Night.” Even in death, Stefano is toying with her from the great beyond with the mysterious chess set and the missing “pawn,” that he had gifted John and Marlena in his will. The mystery is currently unfolding on all-new episodes of Days of Our Lives.

Tune-in to Days of our Lives on the Monday, June 22 episode as Marlena looks back at her 50 years in Salem.
